00:00Dan Quinn said that Jaden, if it was a normal practice today in London, he would be called limited, but
00:08said a lot of guys would be limited today.
00:11He'll have more information on who the starting quarterback will be on Friday.
00:18I think that it's either sit or start.
00:22Those are the two options for me.
00:24I don't see where it makes any sense that he's cleared to play and they use him as Marcus's backup
00:32Sunday against the Colts.
00:35If he's cleared to play and he's comfortable with the brace and he's practiced well this week, he starts.
00:43I'm asking you at 301-230-0980 to explain to me, if you disagree with me,
00:50why it would make sense for him to be the backup quarterback Sunday against the Colts in London.
00:56Also, any Austin Eckler ideas that you have?
01:00My answer would be, well, because they think he's Austin Eckler and he would be better than anybody they have
01:08in the running back room if he's the Austin Eckler from 2024.
01:13Yeah, he's injury prone.
01:15Certainly has been the last few years.
01:17Start with Skip.
01:18Skip, go ahead.
01:20Kevin, the answer is, it doesn't make any sense for him to be the backup quarterback.
01:26It doesn't.
01:27You're saying it does not.
01:29None whatsoever for him to be the backup quarterback.
01:32Now, my main point is, why does he have to play this week?
01:39Can we give him an extra week?
01:42Because healing is a good thing for the body.
01:46You know, like, I don't think I've heard any doctor dispute the fact that the more time he has to
01:54heal the elbow, the better.
01:56Without getting hit, or the chance of getting hit.
02:00He's going to have to get surgery after the season.
02:02That's the point, though.
02:04Like, I would not advocate for him to play on Sunday if they feel like more healing is necessary.
02:10But if the doctors say, look, the injury that he had was not a traumatic injury like the one against
02:17Seattle.
02:17There wasn't much damage other than it came out of the socket again.
02:22And by the way, he's more susceptible to that happening now that it's happened twice.
02:26But in terms of the health of the elbow, waiting isn't going to make it any healthier.
02:31If that's the answer, I mean, what are we waiting for?
02:36If healing, if there's benefit to healing another week before he comes back, then I'm all for that.
02:44But I'm not suggesting that he play with an unhealed elbow.
02:49I'm suggesting that if he's medically cleared to play football because they say there's really no benefit to him, you
02:57know, there's not going to be any additional benefit for him to wait a week or two, then he should
03:03play.
03:04Well, a lot of this is on him.
03:06He has made the decision.
03:08I heard reported that he told his teammates that he cannot let them down.
03:13So he's putting a lot of pressure on himself to get back as soon as possible.
03:17And that's understandable.
03:19He's a football player.
03:21Okay.
03:23He's a dog.
03:24Okay.
03:25There's no question about that.
03:27His pain tolerance is high.
03:28But for his own good, I mean, the doctor you talked to said every time this happens, it gets worse
03:38and worse for his elbow.
03:39No, it becomes more vulnerable and more vulnerable to it happening again.
03:45That's what he said.
03:46He said that with each time there is the potential that the surgery could become more problematic, the recovery time
03:54could be longer.
03:54But he also said when he came on for the second time last week, he said the reason they're probably
04:00not opting for surgery now and that there's talk of him playing is look at the difference in how he
04:07injured it against the Cowboys and how he injured it against Seattle.
04:10This was not a traumatic injury and perhaps there wasn't any worsening of the elbow.
04:19It just popped out, which they didn't just pop it back in.
04:21But often it comes with, I mean, we're getting into the whole doctor stuff and I don't know other than
04:27what we've been told.
04:29But here's the thing, Skip.
04:30And maybe this is naivete, but I don't think that Dan Quinn and the organization are going to let Jaden
04:38back out onto the field if there is benefit to him waiting and having it heal.
04:46I think everybody understands that when he goes back out onto the field, brace or no brace, that the possibility
04:54of him doing it again is higher than it was.
04:57But they'll wait until after the season for him to get surgery on it because it may not happen again
05:02between now and the end of the season.
05:04They're in the middle of a football season.
05:06So I'm not saying put him back out there if there's benefit to waiting.
05:12I'm saying put him back out there if there isn't any benefit to waiting.
05:17And back to the question here in the moment, if he's ready to play and they're ready to put him
05:25in as a backup, then he should start.
05:27So you and I agree on that.
05:29That's correct.
05:30And we won on Sunday, so that gave us even, you know, another game to rest him.
05:38But what if there's no benefit to resting him another game?
05:41That's my point.
05:44Okay.
05:45I see your point.
05:46Yeah.
05:46I mean, maybe, by the way, you know, there's the buildup of what Quinn called the calluses, you know, and
05:54you don't get those when you don't play in the summer and you don't play in preseason games.
05:59I want him to get some of the, I don't want him to get injured again, but I want him
06:03to get back into the routine of playing football regularly because it's been forever.
06:10It's been since 2024 where he's been a regular participant in the team's football games.
06:17And so if we're going to, you know, sit because, hey, man, it'll make sense, it'll kind of look better,
06:24the optics of, you know, him resting more rather than bringing him back right away, I don't want that if
06:28he's ready to go now.
06:30If he's ready to go now and there's no real incremental benefit to waiting, he starts.
06:35He's not a backup.
06:36Well, he feels the same way you do.
06:38Yeah.
06:38So that's for sure.
06:39I, but, but I wouldn't be the decision maker and he wouldn't be the decision maker in my organization.
06:45The medical people would be the decision makers on things like that.
06:49They'd give us all the information and then we would decide based on that information.
06:53And we don't have enough of that information at this point, but thank you, Skip.
06:57Let's go to Rob and Frederick.
06:58Do you think there's any benefit at all to Jaden being the backup quarterback Sunday in London?
07:07Kevin, I think part of this is the NFL wants them to be, keep him active and saying that he
07:14might play just to keep the fans in London interested until that decision's made.
07:21That's what I think.
07:22And the second, second thing on the effort thing, he's a good blocker, isn't he?
07:28Say that, Eckler?
07:29Eckler's a good, he's good at everything.
07:31He's a high IQ, yes, everything.
07:34But so is Rashad White.
07:36Yeah.
07:36Okay.
07:36Well, you know, I know.
07:37And he was nicked up, right?
07:39Yes, correct.
07:40But, but by the way, they signed him, they committed to signing him before the game on Sunday.
07:45So they were bringing him in before Rashad White got banged up in the game.
07:49Okay.
07:49Well, that, that was the only thing I brought about you.
07:51That's what I think about this whole thing.
07:54I personally don't think they're going to put him out there.
07:57I just think they're going to take him along and say he might start just to keep the fan interest
08:01over there up.
08:02That's what my theory is.
08:04Yeah.
08:04You know, theories are theories.
08:06Yeah.
08:06No, you're entitled to it.
08:07I, I, I, I don't agree with that necessarily.
08:10I don't look, I know.
08:12And I did read that.
08:13I guess they've slashed some ticket prices over there.
08:15Um, you can basically get in for a lot less.
08:18The, the, the stadium's not sold out.
08:20The Tottenham stadium holds 62,000.
08:23Um, there appears to be somewhere around two to 3000 seats available, but I don't think that that's, I think
08:29this is Quinn.
08:30I mean, we, we've dealt with this with Quinn before, you know, we'll tell you on Friday and he's, you
08:35know, doing what most coaches do, which is if, you know, whether he's going to play or isn't going to
08:42play.
08:42He's going to try to create a competitive advantage by making Indianapolis prepare for both, uh, this week, leading up
08:51to a decision that'll be made on Friday.
08:53That's what I think this is about.
08:55I also, again, let me just be clear based on the answer.
08:59And we'll play it again here in a few minutes.
09:00Cause he was asked directly about whether or not, uh, Mariota will start Sunday.
09:04Um, and, or Jaden will start.
09:07I, my hunch right now is that Mariota is going to be the starting quarterback and that they're going to,
09:11there is going to be some benefit to him sitting for one more week.
09:16Let's go to Anthony, Anthony and DC.
09:18Go ahead.
09:21So what, where, where did this question come from?
09:24Because to me, it's either, or he, he plays or he sits.
09:30So I don't understand where this question even emanated from.
09:35Yeah.
09:35For me, basically.
09:38Oh, because people have suggested that one,
09:41one of the, one of the, I think some, what, one of the questions, didn't they, that we played,
09:46didn't they ask whether or not it was possible Jaden could be a backup?
09:49I forget, but I think there are some people that believe, Hey man, don't start them.
09:54Uh, but you know, have them ready.
09:56If, if Marcus isn't playing well, or if Mars, Marcus gets hurt rather than having the rookie,
10:00uh, back them up.
10:01I, I don't think that there's any benefit.
10:04If he's cleared to play football, he's your starting quarterback.
10:07He starts in my view.
10:09It's either a sit or start scenario.
10:12Yeah.
10:13Same here.
10:13I mean, it's, it's either, or he sits or he plays one of the two.
10:17Um, yeah, that's, he sits or starts.
10:19That's a no brainer.
10:20Yeah.
10:21Yeah.
10:21That's a, that's a no brainer.
10:23Right.
10:23I agree.
10:25As far as Eckler goes, if he's 24 Eckler, hell yeah, get them out on the field.
10:31I mean, they, they might need to put them in one of those, uh, um, concussion helmet.
10:39Yeah.
10:40I was, I was going, I was going to call it, um, Oh, the great kazoo helmet.
10:46You're really dating yourself.
10:48Oh my God.
10:50That's funny.
10:51Hey, well, you know, that's life.
10:53But yeah, I mean, if, if he can, if he can perform like that, hell yeah, put them out
10:58there.
10:58I mean, he doesn't have the breakaway that, uh, that bill has, but you know, he's shifty.
11:04He can definitely be linebackers in coverage.
11:07So yeah, no doubt.
11:08All right.
11:09Thanks.
11:10Anthony.
11:10Go mystics.
11:12Steve.
11:12Yeah.
11:13They got to win tonight to, to keep their season alive.
11:15Steve in Columbia.
11:16Any, does it make sense at all for Jaden to be the backup on Sunday?
11:22How you doing?
11:23No, it doesn't make any sense for him to be the backup, but with my medical background,
11:28he does not need to play probably until the giant or 49ers game period.
11:33Okay.
11:34Tell me what your background is.
11:36Now I'm just being, I'm being sarcastic, but, uh, yeah, he, he doesn't, he doesn't need
11:40to play, man.
11:41Based on what has happened and the type of injury it is, in my opinion.
11:44And as far as Eckler is concerned, he has more experience than those backs, but athletically,
11:51I don't think he is anywhere near what he used to be compared to those younger guys.
11:56I just don't believe that.
11:57Cause other teams would have signed them.
12:01Yeah.
12:01I mean, I, I, I think that he was just cleared recently.
12:05Um, and there were teams interested, uh, Carolina reportedly, I think Ben had was interested
12:10in bringing him onto their practice squad.
12:12Um, but yeah, I mean, look, Austin Eckler is, you know, 31 years old at this point, and he
12:20was available on free agency, not for a massive deal necessarily.
12:24And he's had nothing but injuries going back to the last two seasons here, the concussions
12:29in 24.
12:30And then obviously the, the Achilles last year, but he's, if he is what he was and they believe
12:37he can be what he was in 24, um, or even early last season before the injury, what, what
12:44we, did he get hurt in the green Bay game?
12:46Max, what game did he get hurt in?
12:49It was the green Bay game.
12:50It was the green Bay game.
12:51Negative step and then boom.
12:52Yeah.
12:52Um, yeah.
12:54Cause he, he had a decent game in the opener against the giants, you know, at six carries
12:58had three catches, um, you know, uh, totaling 57 yards total on nine touches.
13:06Uh, if they think that that's the player that he can be, then in my opinion, the reason
13:11they're bringing him in, because he's better, you know, he's as good or better than anybody
13:15else you have.
13:16Uh, thank you, Steve.
13:17Anybody else, uh, want to weigh in chain, uh, Willie Scott stay on hold 301-230-0980.
13:24If you want to weigh in, we've got an open line.
13:26Uh, the question is, does it make any sense at all for Jaden Daniels to be the backup quarterback
13:33Sunday in London against the Colts?
13:37Kevin Sheehan showed the team 980 and the team 980.com.
