00:00Hi there. Feeling warm and humid in many places this afternoon. A lot of cloud cover but some
00:05sunshine coming through only ahead of the next weather front which will bring some wet
00:10weather in across central parts of the UK overnight. We are at the moment towards the
00:15end of a conveyor belt of Atlantic weather systems but for Thursday a gap between systems
00:20and warmer air spreads north especially affecting the south of the UK. In fact that warm and
00:26more humid air resulting in a lot of low cloud initially in the south and a few spots of
00:32drizzle the cloud lifting and bubbling up through the afternoon. Some sunshine and feeling warm in
00:37that sunshine in the south. Rain clearing the north of Scotland. Just a few showers following for
00:42western Scotland. Cooler here but in the south where we've got the sunshine mid-20s perhaps up to 26
00:4927 Celsius in the southeast. Not feeling so warm across northern Ireland, southwest Scotland,
00:55northwest England, north Wales where it's increasingly wet as we head into the evening
01:00and this band of rain blossoms across a large swathe of central UK. It slowly spills south
01:06overnight. A wet night to come for much of Wales, northwest England and the Midlands. Higher parts
01:13of Wales likely to see 50 millimetres or more. But of course we do need the rain to the south
01:18of that.
01:18A lot of cloud cover. Some spots of drizzle but mostly dry and we keep this mild southwesterly breeze.
01:24So a warm and muggy night in the south. Fresher further north where the rain is replaced by
01:30showers across Scotland and northern Ireland. And we start the day on Friday with brisk winds.
01:35Certainly a blustery picture in the northwest. Frequent showers moving through. Heavy at times.
01:41Brighter skies for southern Scotland, northern England. Parts of Wales for a time as the weatherfront
01:46sinks south. It fragments and it eventually clears the southeast. Not a great deal of rain coming
01:51through by the afternoon. A lot of cloud though in the south. And certainly a fresher feel as that
01:57front clears. In the north staying windy. Those winds particularly gusty over the Pennines or just
02:02east of the Pennines over the Scottish mountains. 50 mile per hour gusts or more. And these showers
02:08rattling through one after the other. Merging to give longer spells of rain. Hail and thunder. So a very
02:13unsettled day in Scotland and increasingly northern Ireland as well. A gap there across England and Wales.
02:19Mostly dry once the initial band of rain has cleared. But like I say, a little bit fresher. Temperatures
02:24in the low 20s. Now Friday evening sees showers spill a little bit further south into northern
02:30England, north Wales, the Midlands for a time. But eventually those showers will ease, become
02:36fewer as high pressure builds in for the weekend. That high pressure means that many will see a fine
02:41day on Saturday. There will be some rain in the far north on Sunday but warmer in the south.
