00:00Hi there, there's no doubt we need the rain and some parts of the UK will get a proper
00:04soaking overnight into the start of Friday.
00:07Not everywhere, there'll be a big difference between north and south and central parts
00:14across the UK.
00:15We'll see the most rain with this frontal system sliding in.
00:19Some warmth remaining in the south where it's felt humid through the day and that will continue
00:23to be the case overnight.
00:25Extensive cloud across the UK, very wet through the evening across Northern Ireland, central
00:29southern Scotland.
00:30The rain then sinks south in the heaviest rain as you can see by the brighter colours affecting
00:34the north and west of Wales, north-west England later on into the Midlands.
00:38But the front's slowing down, it's fragmenting by the end of the night and the far south stays
00:43mostly dry, albeit with this keen south-westerly breeze importing humid air, cloudy conditions,
00:49a few drizzly showers and temperatures of 18 or 19 Celsius, so certainly a muggy night in
00:55the south.
00:56Fresh air further north where we start the day with frequent blustery showers for the
01:01north and west of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland.
01:03These showers merging to give longer spells of rain and the wind strengthening across many
01:06parts of northern UK as the day progresses.
01:09Meanwhile, our band of rain sinks south and south-eastwards, eventually clearing off the
01:14south-east coast by mid-afternoon, leaving a legacy of cloud but drier and brighter weather
01:20at the same time, and actually reasonable spells of sunshine after that wet start for Northern
01:25England, North Wales and the Midlands.
01:27Those showers are going to be lively across north-western parts of the country, accompanied
01:31by gusty winds, with wind gusts in the north, around the Pennines especially, exceeding 50 miles
01:37an hour.
01:38It's not something we've had to be used to much this summer, but certainly it will feel
01:43very autumnal into the afternoon, and it will certainly feel cooler with temperatures at
01:47the mid to high teens in the north, low 20s further south, not quite as humid as it has
01:53been.
01:54Now by this stage it's drying up, but this map shows how much rain we can expect across
01:58the UK in the 24 hours leading up to the middle of Friday afternoon, and you can see the wetter
02:03parts of the UK, west of Scotland, north-west England, north Midlands, north Wales, in excess
02:08of 30 millimetres widely, and in some spots, higher parts of north Wales for example, more
02:13than 50 millimetres.
02:15So yeah, some pretty decent rain totals expected in many places, less so further south.
02:22However, the weather stays mixed as we go into the start of the weekend, we'll see
02:25further showers coming along across northern parts of the country, again gusty winds but
02:30not quite as strong for the start of Saturday.
02:32A ridge of high pressure tries to build in for Saturday itself, and with the cooler air
02:38in place it's not going to be quite as muggy overnight.
02:41Certainly a bright start to the day for southern parts of the country on Saturday morning.
02:45Further showers to come for northern England, much of northern and western Scotland, one or
02:48two for Northern Ireland.
02:49But sunny spells tend to prevail in many places, the showers in the north, fewer and less lively
02:55compared with Saturday.
02:56A bit cloudier in the north by the afternoon, mostly sunny in the south, and as a result temperatures
03:01faring reasonably well, but with lower humidities not quite as warm as it has been, low 20s more
03:08likely in the south and southeast.
03:10Meanwhile this area of rain could bring some more changeable weather to the far north-west
03:14on Sunday, but at the same time temperatures rise in the south.
03:17We're expecting mid to high 20s by Sunday afternoon.
