00:26but maybe last night really was the stadium piece, the relief,
00:31as well as the pride and satisfaction of it all being in there.
00:37And just the, I mean, the niceties as well.

00:45Joe Brady's going to speak later, and why wait to get into last night's game in this sort of way?
00:50Sal, I mean, what's left to say about this Bills slash Josh Allen experience anymore?
00:57I mean, like, they're just checking all the boxes, right?
00:59It's unbelievable, really, the start to the season from this offense.
01:03I was thinking last night about, you know, the comparisons between, like,
01:08when the 90s Bills were doing what they were doing.
01:11And in 1991, they started, I went back and looked,
01:13they started that season with 35 points and then 52 points.
01:17Remember that game right against the Steelers, Mike?
01:18Yeah, six touchdowns for Kelly, four to BB.
01:20Yep, yep.
01:21I mean, that was, and that was a different time period, right?
01:23When teams just weren't doing that.
01:25So, you know, now here, you see teams, you know, the last several years,
01:29scoring's been up in the NFL, the rules have changed, right?
01:33You see that.
01:33And I'm not diminishing anything from the Bills.
01:35I'm just trying to compare it to anything we've seen before here.
01:39You know, but he's just special.
01:41He really is.
01:42And, you know, you hear today, you guys have played some clips from people.
01:47You hear people around the league, who cover the league, talking about it,
01:51just how unstoppable he seems.
01:53Like, what do you do against him?
01:55There's just no answers that a defensive coordinator can have.
01:57Really, the only answer is when you can maybe, it's not schematic.
02:01It's going to be just your guys, you're going to have to win one-on-one.
02:04And when that happens, maybe then that's how you beat him.
02:07When this game started yesterday, I thought, like, Hutchinson,
02:10maybe the first rep he had on the defensive left, so against Spencer Brown,
02:15I thought Brown had a real tough time with him.
02:17Like, okay, this could be a long night.
02:18If they're going to move him around, which they would be smart to do,
02:21maybe get him away from Dawkins.
02:23Like, well, what's going to happen here?
02:26And then Allen just started running away from him.
02:28And, like, and the bill shored that up, and it just never became really a problem.
02:36But, yeah, that's it.
02:37Like, can I get to him in two and a half seconds?
02:41And if I can't, maybe I'm cooked because he's going to run around
02:46and maybe gain 12 yards himself, or he's going to throw it to, I don't know,
02:51one of his tight ends who's probably open, which is just really impressive.
02:56I mean, and I really like the start of the game.
02:58What Joe Brady did was, you know, a lot of play action, get Allen out in space.
03:02And, look, they were coming, and they're playing some man-to-man,
03:06and we know what happens in that case.
03:07Josh just, you know, has the whole field.
03:09And he can run, and he can throw, and he started doing all that.
03:12And he's got 60-something yards or whatever, 40 yards on the first drive,
03:15whatever it was.
03:16And it just seemed like he kind of named his choice of what he wanted to do
03:20when he was out in space.
03:22And then, you know, Bulldog, I was thinking yesterday,
03:23we talked about that play Sunday with Bullock
03:27and how Josh saw that so quick, and then it happened again last night.
03:31Right.
03:31I mean, did you guys watch the Kurt Warner breakdown of the touchdown pass to Palmer?
03:35No, I should.
03:36I can't even believe that it looked like it did.
03:39I mean, I can't believe that there was a breakdown,
03:42but how Allen sees that just in time and puts it right on him is amazing.
03:48It really is.
03:49I mean, and if you watch the breakdown, so Kurt Warner tweeted about it,
03:52and you have to kind of click it, and it goes through a process or whatever.
03:55It's right there.
03:56But it's – you watch it, and what Warner's saying is – so Frank Gore is actually –
04:02I think it was Frank Gore, the running back.
04:04Or maybe it was Cook.
04:05I'm sorry, it was Cook.
04:05Cook was the running back, and he's in the flat.
04:07And he's like, that's his answer right away to this.
04:10But somehow, somehow, he just at the last – at that minute, that second,
04:16that millisecond, sees the safety bite on the under route by Shakir and says,
04:20oh, no, I'm not throwing it to the running back in the flat.
04:22I'm going to go deep for a wide-open touchdown.
04:24Like, how he sees it that quickly is unbelievable.
04:29Yeah, and I have to allow for wide open there.
04:32That is truly –

04:34He also said it – I mean, look, everyone has this problem.
04:37He – later in the game, there's a Kincaid pass down the sideline
04:41where he went with wide open.
04:43And, like, before he even finished the word open, Kincaid's getting hit.
04:45So, like, you know, you can't –
04:47Everybody gets a mulligan.
04:48Right.
04:48But, yeah, that is busted wide open.
04:52And, Sal, it's two weeks in a row that – I guess now we know –
04:58I'm learning that this is from – I think Cooper Cupp coined it as a
05:03for the love of the game route, which is –

05:06Like, Palmer is just supposed to be clearing space there, I think, right?
05:11Just like he was on Sunday in Houston.
05:13But, you know, Allen recognizes that somebody's making a mistake here,
05:18whether it's Bullock on Sunday not moving quickly enough
05:21or this guy jumping the wrong route.
05:23It's like, wow, this is an easy pitch and catch.
05:25I'm going to throw it to the guy that is maybe the last person
05:29I would throw it to on this route.
05:31But it's wide open, so here we go.
05:34And, you know, credit to Joshua Palmer two weeks in a row for understanding
05:38that this ball can come to me.
05:40Maybe it hasn't – and any time we've ever practiced it, it might come to me here.
05:44There was a play later.
05:45Like, one of the things – these are just small plays you see from Josh.
05:49And I could go through so many of them, but there was a play later that stood out to me.
05:52It was second half, and the Bills are going right to left, so I guess fourth quarter.
05:58And Josh gets – he starts moving left, and there's some pressure in his face.
06:04And he just kind of turns his body and just flicks it back across the middle like Kincaid.
06:10And I'm like, who does that?
06:11No one has the ability.
06:13Like, they're really, really just – I don't know if there's anybody in the league
06:16who could have done that.
06:17It seemed like such a – seemed like such an innocuous throw, right?
06:21And just such a – yeah, but if you really watch him and his body
06:25and how he has to turn back and throw it that quickly and that hard
06:28to get it to that spot, it's pretty amazing.
06:30Yeah, it's not an easy throw at all.
06:31It looks easy.
06:32That's right.
06:32And he makes it look easy.
06:33Yeah, I already talked about – I don't know, Sal, we probably could go on for an hour
06:37or more on this.
06:39The Kincaid touchdown, everything about the formation, the motion,
06:44the breakdown I watched of it highlighted this trio of Detroit defenders.
06:48Two guys on the line – yeah, two guys near the line and one guy back off the line.
06:54And when Shakir goes in motion, the whole triangle moves a couple of yards
07:00to their right.
07:01And the way Kincaid is lined up makes the edge rusher think he's going to chip him
07:07so he's going to not go outside, he's going to go inside.
07:10And it turns out Kincaid's not chipping him at all.
07:12He's running straight up the field and then cutting towards the goal post.
07:16And Allen freezes the defender on the left side of the formation by looking that way
07:21and he knows the whole time I'm going to Kincaid and it's going to be there
07:25if I properly freeze this guy.
07:27And he does it and it's an easy – I mean, just like, bam!
07:32And it's all so subtle.
07:34But I really appreciate – I said it last week after the Houston game.
07:38I kind of can't wait to watch the film breakdown community show us, like,
07:44little things he's doing or even that Brady is doing schematically to just spring
07:49these opportunities open so that all Allen has to do is look off one guy
07:54and it's going to be there.
07:55Yeah, and a lot of this, by the way, is choice.
07:57So in that particular instance, maybe Kincaid has a choice to chip and say,
08:01I'm going to stay in and chip.
08:02I see something here.
08:03And then Josh sees that.
08:05That's the thing, that you have to be in such unison and you have to understand
08:08what everybody's thinking on the same page.
08:10That's the – a lot of beauty to football to me is 11 guys really kind of knowing,
08:16like, okay, anything can change with my assignment as soon as the ball is snapped.
08:19I've got to see it the same way you see it and how much you rep it.
08:21And that's really cool.
08:22And that's the two Cook runs, right?
08:25So Cook has these back-to-back runs.
08:26He gains, like, 55 yards on two straight runs.
08:28You guys saw that.
08:30It's the same play.
08:32One goes to the right and one goes to the left.
08:34Go watch it from the back angle.
08:35He decides – because they played it just slightly different, the Lions,
08:39he decides to cut one way instead of cutting the other.
08:42But it's literally the exact same blocking scheme on that play.
08:45And that's the Joe Brady effect there.
08:47And one more on Josh real quick.
08:49I mean, he sees the hold, right, in the end zone.
08:52He points it out.
08:53Hey, there's a hold there.
08:54I don't care.
08:54I'm just going to throw the ball.
08:55I don't care if it gets intercepted.
08:56It gets intercepted.
08:56It doesn't matter.
08:57The only thing he's better at than playing quarterback is officiating.

09:02I don't even know if he's better at that, to be honest with you.

09:07If I were an official, I'd be really annoyed by that.

09:46And, you know, that kind of – that was filtering around.

10:03But, you know, as of this morning and into the afternoon, nothing has changed on D.J. Moore.
10:09It's sort of a day-to-day thing.
10:10Not as serious as it could have been.
10:13But certainly his status for the next game, which is not until the week from Sunday against the Chargers, is
10:18going to be in question.
10:19There's no doubt about that, I think, right?
10:21Yeah, that's the report so far from Adam Schefter and Ian Rappaport.
10:26You know, Schefter had reported, and I saw, you know, overnight that it's a – he's day-to-day not
10:33super serious.
10:34And then even Rapp added on to that that's an AC joint sprain.
10:38So let's just, you know, assume that is the case, everything there.
10:41That can be a game.
10:44It could be two games.
10:45I think the benefit here is obviously you have 10 days before the next game, right?
10:48So I think here one of two things could happen if it's going to be, you know, maybe kind of
10:54iffy on that game, which is, hey, you have 10 days to get D.J. Moore ready and healthy, and
10:59hopefully he's able to play against the Chargers.
11:02If not, you do have 10 days to prepare a plan, which is really nice, right?
11:06So, you know, Skyler Bell's been the odd man out.
11:09And honestly, guys, I mean, the passing offense did look different without him last night.
11:12It slowed down last night.
11:13I thought so, too.
11:14Yeah, they figured it out.
11:16Give him credit.
11:17You know, but, you know, Keon Coleman was a big part of that.
11:19I thought he had a really nice game last night.
11:20He was reliable, six targets, six catches, but it definitely slowed down last night.
11:24I mean, that's something that happens during a game where you've got to pivot.
11:27But in this case, they would have 10 days to have a plan without D.J. Moore.
11:31One thing you could try to do next time, if you're going to try to have to stop Josh Allen,
11:35is recover the ball when he fumbles.
11:38Like that.
11:39Right away.

11:41I mean, that was a 50-50 ball pretty much, right?
11:43I mean, when he got hit.
11:44100%.
11:45And you can't really control that, but the Bills have been on the right side of that.
11:49And last night's game did get close enough.
11:52I mean, it was competitive where one possession really could have meant a lot.

11:57When it got to a 10-point game two different times, I kept thinking, like, this game, we're getting kind
12:06of a shootout.
12:07I mean, it was never back and forth with lead changes, but it was back and forth.
12:11And if they can find their way to a pick six or a scoop and score or even just a
12:17strip sack that puts them at the Bills 25 or something, short field,
12:21that's how this game becomes a one-score game.
12:24But it never materialized.
12:26Like, they just never made that play.
12:28And eventually the Bills got their touchdown to go back out by enough and then just sort of, you know,
12:33coasted home, even though Detroit scored late.
12:35Sal, what was the word on the turf?
12:39So far, so good from everything we've heard from people we saw.
12:42You guys didn't see anything necessarily.
12:44I think there was a play late in the game when James Cook slipped, and some people thought maybe that
12:47had something to do with it.
12:48But I don't know.
12:49Even if it did, I mean, you played a whole game, and it was, you know, muggy out.
12:52So that can happen.
12:53It happens in every stadium.
12:54Yeah, yeah.
12:54You know, you can have turf.
12:55So I wouldn't go too far with that.
12:57But I think that everybody, you know, all good grades and good marks.
13:02And, I mean, look, we've said this, though.
13:04It's not about last night.
13:04It's about the next two weeks after tonight.
13:06Last night, which is three games in a row on that field, how it holds up.
13:10I think that's going to be more of the true test.
13:13But, you know, obviously going into the game, that was a bit of a, you know, clenching a little bit.
13:18Let's make sure.
13:19Let's hope this isn't a storyline coming out of this game.

13:24It really became more about the celebration of Highmark Stadium, you know, and the aesthetics and the fireworks and the
13:31acoustics and the loud and the noise and the Bills winning.
13:33And that's the way that I think it should play out.
13:36And, you know, hopefully here in Buffalo, everybody, you know, had a great time with it last night and have
13:41a lot of memories.
13:42I would say a big relief.
13:44I left our pregame.
13:47By the time I got home, something had happened to Ed Oliver.
13:52And my first thought was, if there's footage of this, so help me if he slipped on this field.
13:57Oh, yeah.

13:58And when I finally got around to see him, I'm like, okay, that wasn't the case.

14:03What did he do?
14:04He just, he was working out near one of the end zones and just came out of, like, a two
14:11-point or three-point stance and was running and just sort of pulled up.

14:16Like, just look, just, you know, it wasn't super noticeable, but he turned around and then started, like, flexing it
14:23and, like, that was it.
14:25So I was glad to see the footage of it didn't, you know, feature, like, something where the turf caused
14:30him to lose his footing or whatever.

14:37Well, it was 6.38 p.m.
14:40And actives had to be in by 6.45 p.m.
