00:00Hey, Shabbat Shalom brothers and sisters, welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.
00:05Today I want to talk about something that's called Psalm 151.
00:09Some of you might not have heard of it before.
00:13Psalm 151 is not really in the Catholic, canonical version of the Bibles and King James Version,
00:23but it is in other Bibles. The Orthodox Church, they include it in theirs.
00:30Excuse me. And I just want to read some of this stuff to you and tell you what it's about.
00:35This one is called Psalm 151, but this one is a document. It's 151a. It's a Hebrew.
00:43And it's a hallelujah to David, to Jesse's son.
00:47It goes like this. And there's seven verses in it.
00:53And here's what it says.
00:55I was the smallest of my brothers, the youngest of my father's sons.
01:00He made me shepherd of his flock, ruler over their young.
01:06The second one here says,
01:08My hands made a flute, my fingers a lyre.
01:11Let me give glory to the Lord.
01:16I thought to myself.
01:18Number three, the mountains cannot witness to Yahweh.
01:24The hills cannot proclaim him.
01:27But the trees have cherished my words, the flocks, my deeds.
01:32Number four in this is,
01:33Who can proclaim, who can announce, who can declare the Lord's deeds?
01:40Yahweh has seen everything.
01:42Yahweh has heard everything.
01:45Yahweh has listened.
01:46Number five, Yahweh sent his prophet to anoint me, Samuel, to make me great.
01:53My brothers went out to meet him, handsome in the form and form and appearance.
02:01Number six, he says,
02:03Their statues, tall, their hair beautiful.
02:06But the Lord Yahweh did not choose him.
02:12Number seven here,
02:14Instead, he sent and took me from following the flock.
02:19Yahweh anointed me with holy oil.
02:22Yahweh made me leader of his people, ruler over the children of his covenant.
02:28Now that was the Hebrew version.
02:30Now I got another one.
02:31It's 151b, and it's Hebrew and Sarek.
02:37It says here, let's see.
02:39At the beginning of David's power, after the prophet of Yahweh anointed him.
02:43This is verse one, starting with that.
02:45I went out to attack the Philistine, who cursed me to his idols.
02:50But after I uncovered his own sword, I cut off his head.
02:55So I removed the shame from the Israelis.
03:00And that's basically David and Goliath.
03:04Another one here is 151.
03:07This is the Greek version.
03:08This additional psalm is said to have been written by David when he fought Goliath in a single battle.
03:16Now here's, okay, here's number one.
03:18I was small among my brothers and the youngest of my father's sons.
03:22I was shepherd of my father's sheep.
03:25Verse two, my hands made a musical instrument.
03:28My fingers strung a lap harp.
03:31Number three, who will tell my Lord, the Lord himself, the Lord hears me.
03:37Number four, the Lord himself sent his messenger and took me away from my father's sheep.
03:44He put special oil on my forehead to anoint me.
03:49Number five here is, my brothers are good looking and tall, but the Lord didn't take special pleasure in them.
03:58Number six, I went out to meet the Philistine, who cursed me by his idols.
04:06Number seven, but I took his own sword out of his sheath and cut off his head.
04:11So I removed the shame from the Israelis.
04:13And of course, like I said before, it's not found in the King James Version to the Bible.
04:19But it is in the Codex Sinaticus, Codex Vaticanus, and Alexandrius.
04:26Also, it is in the Dead Sea Scroll.
04:29This is included, and it's included here, designated 11Q5, Qumran Cave 11.
04:39Of course, like I said, the Catholics reject this psalm, but the Orthodox don't.
04:46And it's just kind of telling because I heard about this, but I never really looked it up, put a
04:53lot of thought into it or anything like that.
04:55But let me know what you think about this.
04:59Should it be included in all the Bibles or not?
