00:06As Mario, a little more banged up than we thought on that football team

00:14Malachi was in and out, and he looked banged up.
00:17I think everybody saw that.
00:19And not only him, but Fletch also, the other guy from American Heritage Plantation.
00:25Hell, we got a lot of guys from American Heritage Plantation.
00:27The secondary was banged up going into it, right, Joe?
00:29Yeah.
00:30And now you lost another receiver, you know, another top-end player.
00:36They had a few mental mistakes there when they started scoring points
00:40and jumped back into the game after Miami had a nice 31-7 lead
00:46with I think nine minutes left in the third quarter or something like that.
00:50They went to a little zone.
00:53I'm not a big zone fan unless you have to play it, or if it's long, long yardage
00:59and you let a guy catch the ball in front of you, you attack, you tackle the guy short
01:03and you force him to punt.
01:05But I –
01:06We've got two teams playing a lot of zone right now.
01:09One because of health, right?
01:10Yeah.
01:10I mean, the Canes are health, and the Dolphins are just not good enough back there.
01:16Your top two guys, although you've still got some guys that are good players,
01:21and this experience should help them.
01:24Now, obviously, it's a trust factor for the defensive coordinator
01:27to how he's going to play guys.
01:30But the pass rush picked up, and it didn't get there,
01:33and they started blitzing on the outside.
01:35And they didn't stop, and it was coming, and there was nothing they can do.
01:40There was a free blitzer, it seemed like, every time.
01:43And, well, I'll tell you what, it does look like kind of talking about all these freshmen.
01:49J.J. Dunnigan's going to be a special player.
01:52He's a big, fast guy on the outside.
01:55I don't know what his coverage skills are.
01:57I think we saw Thornton a few times on his coverage was not good.
02:04So, you know, and again, if you don't get there, you saw it yesterday,
02:08you don't get there, and there's a problem.
02:11And I think Coach Halfley, I'm bouncing back between the two teams,
02:15but Coach Halfley, yesterday we were,
02:19where LaPertie was probably had the clean, by far the cleanest uniform in the NFL.
02:23He felt comfortable back there, didn't he?
02:25I mean, he just.
02:26Only time that uniform got dirty was he slid after running for first downs,
02:32and he got down.
02:33He didn't take the big hits, ran down the sideline.
02:36You know, it's one thing to get a bootleg,
02:38but everybody was sucked in so fooled that he rolls out.
02:43And not only does he roll out, and he goes, oh, I can run down the sideline.
02:46So he ended up, I want to say, like 18-yard bootleg run.
02:50And, again, if it's Lamar Jackson, you go, okay, those are going to happen.
02:55We've seen it.
02:56But it's Brock Purdy.
02:57The only time I think he got hit was after he scored a touchdown.
03:00He took a hit, and he went to the ground.
03:04That might have got a little grass stain on him,
03:06but that would be about 20 or 22.
03:09But he got real comfortable in the pocket and obviously had a huge day.
03:14Anyway, so we got a lot of stuff to get to here this morning
03:18and this 6 o'clock hour.
03:21The injury news, of course, is the Miami Hurricanes get set for Central Michigan
03:26this Saturday.
03:28And then everything with this game that, hey, listen, I heard everybody in the –
03:33and this is the world we live in if you don't blow somebody out.
03:37So, it's a story, and you're up 31-7.
03:41The next thing you know, it's, what, 31-20 or 33-20,
03:46and, you know, everybody starts to – you know, we could have lost it.
03:51But defensively, they stepped up, and they didn't lose it,
03:54and they win by double digits in that game, including interception.
03:58At the end of that game by Ethan O'Connor makes a nice play in there as well.
04:02So, Dolphins coming home from the trip and getting ready now for Kansas City.
04:08Yeah.
04:08By the way, I was wrong about Kansas City.
04:11Like everybody was, right?
04:13I – they just like, all right, we're healthy.
04:16And the 49ers, too, they're like, okay, we're healthy.
04:20And they look like two of the best teams.
04:22They beat the Rams.
04:23I'm not going by beating the Dolphins the way they did yesterday,
04:25but taking care of the Rams.
04:27And as long as their veteran guys can all play, and still, like they did yesterday,
04:33all of them played at a high level against the Dolphins.
04:35All those 30-plus-year-old guys at 49ers have just got 30-year-olds all over the place.
04:44I mean, everywhere.
04:46But they're good 30-year-olds.
04:47A lot of them are good 30.
04:48You mentioned Trent Williams.
04:50Trent Williams.
04:51Mike Evans.
04:52Well, those – yeah, right there.
04:54Those are two pretty good old guys to have on your team.

05:02I mean, listen, it's right now, and they're going to get in some tough games
05:05with Seattle and the Rams.
05:07And I'll tell you what, that conference is going to be fun to watch.

05:17They've got Giants tonight.
05:18You've got the Seahawks.

05:25And Arizona won a game against the Chargers, so at least they were sort of the –
05:31Well, I don't know if anybody's been a bigger disappointment for expectations
05:36than what they've done, right?

05:39Yeah, absolutely.
05:40That team, the hype that they had around that team and, you know,
05:44the guys they added and the coach they added that was going to make a difference
05:48and everything else.
05:50But I will tell you, at the end of the day, there's three teams, 2-0 in the AFC,
05:55Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrell.
05:59Where do you rank those three in the quarterback?
06:02All I know, you're going to get a look at a couple of them up close here
06:05in two of the next three weeks.

06:18The interesting thing about Chiefs, they've kind of remade their team.
06:21They're now running – they have a really – with Kenneth Walker,
06:25they have a running facet.
06:27He's had two big games, 117 yards last night.
06:31They're coming off.
06:32And I didn't think the O-line was going to be that good.
06:34But I didn't know they had a guy banged up, and I went, wow,
06:37they're going to have problems on that O-line again.
06:40And Patrick Mahomes, who I guess – I thought he'd be back early.
06:45There's another guy that said, I'm fine.
06:47Put the brace on.
06:48Let's go.
06:49But he's out there running.
06:50He's running.
06:51He's not late year running.
06:53He's running right now to get this thing off to a good start.
06:57And he threw for a ton, ton of yards yesterday.
07:00You know, and Brock Purdy had a nice game against the Dolphins.
07:03I mean, flawless, 20-22, 149 quarterback rating.
07:09But I think we're going to be seeing that a lot about –
07:12the Dolphins play a lot of really good quarterbacks.
07:15If you can't get to the quarterback, those guys –
07:21and like you said, it's not just these guys we're talking about,
07:24and they just happen to play a really tough schedule,
07:26especially at home of some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL,
07:31the 50-plus club.
07:32And if they're not, they're going to be soon.
07:34Caleb Williams is going to be a 50-plus million-dollar-a-year guy,
07:37if not 60.
07:39So, yeah.
07:40But it doesn't matter who you play.
07:43It doesn't matter who you play.
07:45If you can't get there and you let them sit in that pocket off play action
07:49or a little bootleg where they roll out and stop,
07:53we got guys – they're open everywhere.
07:56They just were.
07:57The number one void on the roster, and you knew it coming in, is edge rusher.
08:01They don't have – they got nothing.
08:04And we're not going to do a draft show, but it's just something to put in the back
08:08of your head.
08:09I did too.
08:10You know, I heard it yesterday, and, you know, everybody – you know,
08:14fans get, hey, we need this quarterback.
08:17That should be our number one.
08:18And I'm like, wow, if you're just going by position right now,
08:24a pass rushing position, and Chop was out yesterday,
08:27and Chop did not play great in the first game.
08:29He just didn't.
08:30No matter what anybody tells you, Chop did not – had a tackle late in the game
08:34or was in on an assist for a tackle in the game.
08:38Was out with a concussion, whatever happened in the practice.
08:40It knocked him out, but knocked him out of this game.
08:43And – but they need him.
08:46You know, everybody talked about his great camp and all those things.
08:52I didn't believe the great camp stuff.
08:54So what?
08:55That's nice, but we've seen him for two years, right?
08:58Yeah.
08:58And you – okay, let's get to the games.
09:01And that was the disappointment of the Raiders game,
09:04where he didn't – he made no impact on the game.
09:08So, yeah, they need him back because they don't have anybody.
09:11We have a lot of guys who are struggling one-on-one
09:14to beat offensive linemen right now on this team.
09:18We just do.
09:19It's – those guys on the outside just, you know.
09:23But, Joe, after the Raiders game, the Raiders were so run dominant,
09:28and they sort of took over the game by running the ball.
09:33I felt, okay, the Dolphins went into yesterday saying,
09:36we're going to stop McCat.
09:37We're not going to let the run be –
09:39and you look at the linebackers, it's like they're moving up at the snap, right?
09:44And all of a sudden, the 49ers said, okay, we'll beat you by the pass then if this is –
09:50and –
09:50I thought our guys got sucked up on bootlegs and play action,
09:54and they were throwing the ball over the top.
10:00And we just looked shocked.
10:02You're right.
10:02We had guys coming up, and, you know, McCaffrey's not going to have a big game against us.
10:07He only had 23 – and he didn't.
10:08He had 23 yards.
10:09I mean, 10 carries, 23 yards.
10:11But that was the focus, it seemed.
10:15As you said, they're coming up.
10:17They're buying into the play action all the time.
10:19And all of a sudden, two guys are running free downfield, and Purdy just hit them.
10:24And you had Debo running a square in wide open, and next to it is Kittle running right down the
10:33middle,
10:34and nobody's around him.
10:35Kittle coming out in the second half, 40 yards gained wide open.
10:42Then in the end zone, two plays later, 12-yard touchdowns.
10:45He had 52 yards of catching on their 65-yard drive, in which he's just wide open.
10:50I mean, George Kittle, you might want to cover him.
10:55Yeah.
10:55Well, you just – you know, you keep working on it, and this is what you have.
11:02I mean, I'm not going to break it down anymore.

11:07You're not going to add anything better.
11:09We gave a lot of guys that have been around the league a chance to pass rush,
11:13and we're probably going to stick with them because –
11:16You don't have a choice right now.
11:18Yeah, but this is sort of the baseline of – when I think of 2019, the last time you went
11:24through this.
11:25We've never been through anything.
11:26Well, nothing like this.
11:27This is thin.
11:29But the first four games were so bad in 2019, and they became the baseline of, okay,
11:37what can they improve off of?
11:39You remember what changed, though, right?
11:41Yeah, the quarterback decision changed everything.
11:44The day that the coach stood up and said, I've seen enough from Josh Rosen.
11:52And honestly, the other guy had one of the best years, I thought.
11:55He couldn't – let's talk about a guy that got the most out of that group.
11:59He was running through walls, and those guys were chasing him around like,
12:02Commander, where are we going next?
12:04We'll fight anything with you.
12:06People talk about leadership.
12:07Now, there was an actual leader on the team that took – Chad Pennington, same way.
12:13Malik Willis – it wasn't Malik Willis' fault yesterday.
12:16I mean, he did – I thought he played fine.
12:18You know what?
12:20He's going to be because he's a quarterback.
12:23And you're going to go, hey, we need to get a quarterback.
12:26And I'm like, hey, man, did you watch that whole game?
12:29Where's that on the priority list?
12:30Malik Willis right now on that priority list.
12:32And I get it.
12:33He's playing the most important position.
12:34Every other play he's being flushed out, it felt like buzzer.
12:37He keeps plays alive.
12:38Yes.
12:39He keeps them alive.
12:40He didn't want to get flushed out that quickly.
12:42And if you're looking for good news, Dolphins, they're opening the playbook.
