00:04it is uh surprisingly that is the first win at home home opener first win for the new england
00:10patriots in five years well i'll tell you what it was impressive on defense for sure the offense
00:16has a lot of work to do but uh you know christian barrymore and uh christian gonzalez i mean both
00:23had great games um you know aaron rogers looked lost yesterday they had no uh any sort of rhythm
00:29on offense and that's you know that's the second uh great defensive performance that the new england
00:35patriots have put up so if their defense is going to play like this that means they're going to have
00:40a chance in every single game so this was a game i did expect them to win i don't think
00:45their offense
00:46looks all that explosive at the moment but you know drake may is going to have to play better be
00:50more consistent but man again that defense just absolutely stuffed aaron rogers in the
00:56pittsburgh steeler offense well it pains me to say it because he's kind of a dink but i the the

01:02he stands in there and takes those hits at 42 years age could at 42 years of age would you
01:09be able
01:09would you be able to do that homer no no i wouldn't at the age of 37 i was unable

01:15of the reasons why i retired i mean it hurts um you know the interesting thing about pittsburgh ever
01:21since aaron got there you know they've always been thought of as a defensive first team then a
01:27running team and then the quarterback and of course when they had ben roethlisberger that was a little
01:32bit different but he added to the running game because he moved around so much you know aaron is
01:36you know unfortunately at the age of 42 is really more like a statue he does not want to hand

01:41ball off he wants to throw the ball and anytime he sees press coverage he's going to try to throw

01:46dk madcap and when you have one of the top corners in the league covering him it's going to be

01:52afternoon for that wide receiver so dk is not that shifty quick wide receiver he's more of the big
01:58tall lanky wide receiver and christian was up to the challenge i just you know as much as i love

02:05rogers as a football player and love the way he was when he was in this prime it's obviously not

02:11any longer boomer we're all kind of shocked around here when it comes to uh drake may what are you
02:18seeing personally that it looks like you know in the first two games our expectation was this guy
02:24was going to take off because of what he did last year what are you seeing that is kind of

02:29him in a position where he looks like he's regressing a little bit well i would say he has regressed

02:34there's no question about it the interceptions are killers and yesterday's interception reminded me
02:39of the last interception he threw against seattle off the back foot just kind of lays it out there
02:44uh you can't play quarterback in the nfl like that you have to be more decisive you got to be

02:49consistent uh look i know he lost his top wide receiver and i guess some would say that romeo
02:55dobs had a little bit of a comeback game yesterday they finally got a big play out of uh their

03:00their passing game but it's just that he right now looks really uncomfortable to me and he is he's
03:08either not seeing the field or there's a dip in uh attention to detail during the game but these
03:14are things that that josh mcdanielson just have to work with him on he's gonna have to talk to him
03:19all week during practice i mean that interception i i mean i you would think that he would have learned
03:24from the seattle game and this underthrown ball that gets picked off by patrick queen is just
03:31you know another indication that you know you got to worry about you know his decision making right now
03:36so again it goes it comes back to coaching you got to coach the kid out of this um i
03:41don't you know
03:42i think he's a great kid i think he really wants to learn i think he cares it's it's nothing
03:46that uh
03:47that he's doing differently i think in practice or preparation it's just that on the field he he has
03:53this lack of concentration at points that you know could cause the patriots problems now you know
04:00their next two games i believe are on the road but i think they go they go to jacksonville now
04:05this will be interesting because jacksonville even though they lost yesterday they do have a good
04:10offense they do have a good defense um and this would be a really good test to see if drake

04:15can get out of the doldrums that he's in right now it doesn't seem like he has confidence is that
04:20is that a thing it is a thing it is a thing and happens to all of us at one
04:25point in time maybe not
04:26tom brady because he was so great but uh you know all of us go through it at at times
04:31like where
04:32we just don't feel like we're seeing the field correctly uh maybe the defense has a read on our
04:37offense our formations and you know they're playing well against us um he was under some pressure
04:44yesterday that's that's one thing that pittsburgh is known for and t.j watts off to an unbelievable
04:48start so there that has something to do with the defenses he's played here the first two weeks of the
04:54season you know now he sees his own defense during the week and his own defense is going to be
04:59a top
04:59five top three defense in the league so he should learn from some of that competition when he's he's
05:05out there in the practice field but yeah there's no question that confidence definitely plays a role
05:11in this he also is you know living in the world of social media so he hears all of it
05:17i guarantee you
05:17i'm sure his family and friends hear all of it so he has just got to play his his way
05:23out of this
05:24now josh can help uh josh can help with the offensive play calling it's certainly certainly
05:29good to have trivia and henderson back i mean he's certainly a difference you could see that
05:34and remandre's got to hold on to the football i mean you can't start the game with a fumble either

05:38you know there are a lot of things that go into this but i think greg you hit on something

05:43that's confidence and i would say it's shaken i wouldn't say it's lost i would just say it's shaken
05:48right now for drake may boomer but you bring up josh mcdaniels if you're talking about confidence
05:52how much blame do you put on him and the play calling because around here a lot of people are
05:57asking for josh mcdaniels head well i mean we're two games into the season courtney i didn't realize
06:02you were that tough i know i i said people around i'm not people are saying yes oh people are
06:09saying
06:09like who are these people i want to know who they are i'm not saying that well you said i
06:14mean the so
06:14the age of social media it is split when you look at social media it's people blaming drake but a
06:19lot
06:19of people blaming josh mcdaniels yeah well you know social media i really try not to pay too much
06:26attention to that i just try to watch the game and i try to understand what's happening i think
06:31greg hits on something with the confidence i think this is where josh has got to help uh drake i
06:36think
06:37there are certain times in games where yeah offensive coordinators can help their quarterbacks and josh
06:42has been had so much success in this league he's probably had more success in this league
06:47than i would say 99.9 percent of offensive coordinators so for those people who want to
06:54get rid of josh mcdaniels they're out of their minds he coached an mvp style quarterback last year
07:00he coached one of the greatest quarterbacks if not the greatest quarterback of all time
07:04and i i would suggest that drake may will play better as the season goes on he's just gotten off
07:10to a really bad start i would say it's a slow start i mean the three interceptions in seattle were
07:15just
07:15you know mind numbing but again he's lost aj brown and this is where you know josh has got to
07:21step up
07:21there's no question about that courtney but i wouldn't really pay too much attention to what's
07:26going on on social media i mean down here in new york i mean they lose a game that they
07:30probably
07:30should have won against green bay and of course it's the oh you know we're the jet fans we lose
07:36games like this this is the way things happen and that's all over social media this morning too but
07:41i know we got a long way to go and drake may is just too good of a player to
07:46look like this
07:47through 17 games well we had uh robert spillane on friday and he said that drake needs to stop
07:55beating himself up so much um in these losses and that he needs to just know he's a great quarterback
08:01how important is it even if you may not have felt it boomer to exude confidence and to sort of
08:08elevate
08:08your teammates around you even when you may not be that sure of yourself yeah well that's uh another
08:14psychological question and i'm glad that robert spillane uh recognizes that he really wants the
08:18best for his teammate and he's and he's seen this guy uh perform at a very very high level you
08:24know
08:24this is a bump in the road he's early in his career you know he i i think he when
08:30he walks into
08:30the room everybody looks at him and has real confidence that he can make the plays and that he can
08:35be the
08:35player that he was last year so again like i say he's his confidence is shaking a little bit there's
08:41no question about it maybe losing aj brown is is a bigger deal than we give it credit for um
08:48and this
08:48again like i go back to the offense coordinator and his relationship and this is where the offense
08:53coordinator's got to help him he's got to help him uh become better and having travion henderson on
08:58the field is really going to help because he obviously is a change of pace back and he he can
09:03control
09:04the football game as long as they're continuing to run the ball like i know they will because that's
09:09something that josh always wants to do he'll be able to play himself out of this there'll be play
09:14action passes there'll there'll be bootlegs there'll be seven man protections and he'll be able to start
09:19stepping into the ball and feeling more comfortable so think of this as a you know one of the best
09:24hitters
09:24in baseball going through like a one for 30 streak on your team and you're really wondering what the hell's
09:30going on and then all of a sudden he catches fire and then he goes on a run for about
09:34three and a
09:35half four weeks and carries that team so i think that's where we are with drake right now they won
09:40a game where he didn't play his best but i can tell you this that the special teams and the
09:44defense
09:44for the newland patriots are still more than uh capable of carrying this team to the playoffs
09:50i took some abuse on friday because i was talking about how good josh allen and the bills look and
09:57everybody came at me and said greg it's week two and they do this every regular season and
10:02um how do you feel about that football team having seen them for a couple weeks here not not totally
10:09sold on their defense yet um i think they get they have some pretty good pass rushers greg rousseau is
10:15off to a great start and actually won the game for them down in houston when cj stroud couldn't get
10:20the ball in the end zone in week one um josh allen is phenomenal he is a phenomenal football player
10:27he is you know he's just so explosive both in the passing game and in the running game you know
10:33there was a play last week on thursday night where he hits his uh his wide receiver palmer down the
10:39middle of the field and interestingly enough on that particular play he's being blitzed and there's
10:44a guy coming free and he is just so good at at just handling like guys in his face and
10:51he jumps up and
10:52throws the ball about 35 40 yards down the field to a wide open palmer because the safeties think
10:58all right we're blitzing so there's no way that he's going to have time to throw the ball down the
11:02field those types of plays are made by superstars and that's exactly what he is he's the best quarterback
11:09in the league right now he's the most dynamic quarterback in the league right now but again i
11:13still don't think their defense is going to be a top 10 defense i really don't the only way that
11:19maybe they would be is because josh will be scoring so many points that the defense will come up with
11:24a
11:24lot of turnovers and a lot of sacks versus the opposing team because the opposing team will be
11:29coming from behind and throwing the ball a lot question of the week for boomer is brought to you
11:34by mcfarland energy with caleb williams going down is the madden jenks legit boomer could be legit you
11:41know not only did he go down but you know so so did jayden daniels which is really unfortunate you
11:45you know these are we want these players playing this is what the nfl is all about it's about
11:50superstar quarterbacks now for the teams that have to play the bears over the next four to six weeks
11:54you know they catch a break i mean you know you got to remember i'll tell you really where the
11:59bad
11:59luck comes in it's karma and after they put up 59 points on the panthers in week one if you
12:06remember
12:07ben johnson was talking about setting offensive records and he wanted to score over 60 points in this game
12:13and i'm like man don't touch the money don't ever touch the money karma is a bitch especially in
12:19the nfl and i think that's more the reason that caleb williams got hurt because you know when you're
12:24talking confidently that's great but when you're really like sticking it in everybody's face and
12:29you lose a game by only scoring three points after scoring 59 last week that's a freaking wake-up call
12:34for your team so that team's going to be in trouble now without caleb back there because
12:37you know he much like josh allen we're making so many plays that are not in the playbook so i
12:44don't
12:44necessarily know that they'll have that with tyson beijing going forward but uh yeah karma's a bitch
12:50boomer when you watch a lot of these games and you kind of you played the quarterback position
12:55but you see like kind of the pressure that a lot of these guys you know are uh dealing with
13:01being like
13:02if they don't perform well their teams struggle and their teams don't win how how has the game
13:09changed and since maybe when you played where you could lean on a running game you could obviously
13:13lean on defenses where now the quarterback has to deal with so much pressure to perform
13:18so well in order for his team to to seem like they can win consistently yeah it goes back to
13:24what
13:24courtney was saying social media social media is everywhere everybody's got an opinion it's out
13:29their fan bases are extremely passionate you know a lot of the the guys or the gals that actually
13:35cover one or two different teams and they talk about those team incessantly are not far off uh in
13:41their analysis but i don't know how these players deal with it i really don't um you know when i
13:47think
13:47about uh like let's say atlanta for it for instance i mean they are a disaster right now miami is
13:53a
13:54disaster right now and you think about those players that are playing on those teams and you realize
13:58that the coaches the players the quarterbacks are all dealing with it and they're all hearing it
14:04and it it just creates another layer of concern for the teams but you know for the great quarterbacks
14:10like josh and patrick mahomes last night who had another finally had a really huge patrick mahomes
14:15type of game for the first time in about a year and a half uh it's it's it's something it's
14:20out
14:20there and and you know it's out there and you know it's going to affect these players like so maybe
14:25drake may is being affected a little bit by social media right now i don't know that for a fact
14:30but
14:30i wouldn't be surprised if if that is part of the issue with him right now but i would stick
14:36with him
14:36i wouldn't worry about it i'd be very confident in him he's a he's a young man that really cares
14:41he
14:41wants to be great um and he's just going through a little bit of a slump right now that better
14:47now than
14:48late in the season that's all i can tell you as the season goes on i suspect that he'll get
14:52much better
14:52better and much more in improved in his decision making and not make the stupid mistakes that he
