00:07today you gotta feel good it was another win another win yeah it makes you feel good and our
00:12guys uh played uh pretty good when you judge the entire game there were segments we started a little
00:18bit slow we did some things sloppy early on but but uh tightened things up as we as we uh
00:24got into
00:24the game and offense really came alive in that second half i don't know if you're keeping track
00:28of your history right now but that that's win number 180 for you i believe correct i'll take
00:34your word for it your winning percentage is 67 that's that's unbelievable that's great that's
00:42great for a coach congratulations well i appreciate that that means we've had a lot of good players
00:46through the years you know players win games and and it's all about recruiting now as you had said
00:51mentioned the first half was a little slow like uh if you put some bad gas in your car and
01:02uh scott walden seemed to have your number that whole first quarter i mean it was just like what
01:08what were you thinking i was just like oh my god what is going on here well first of all
01:12we put the ball
01:13on the ground twice in the first four possessions and so that that's going to lead to uh a very
01:19lethargic
01:20start right there and so uh once we got that corrected and and got uh you know back on track
01:25then then uh we proceeded to i think we scored 17 in the second quarter and 28 in the third
01:30quarter so
01:31so we did uh get things going there but but turnovers kill you especially in this day and age of
01:36football
01:36where they keep shortening the the amount of place in the game with uh you know the rule changes you're
01:41only going to get 10 or 11 possessions and if you you know turn it over two three four times
01:45you know that is so damaging and so uh the turnover margin which used to be of huge importance is
01:51even
01:51more important now with the with the lesser amount of possessions well john henry daly came through uh
01:57with a good defensive uh uh sack out there right also uh he was the defensive player of the week
02:04i might add did you know that i did not know that like in the conference yeah kudos congratulations
02:10he only played like 19 snaps so i guess that's that's pretty good production it's good to see
02:16john back healthy again too it absolutely is yes well almost a fumble to start the second half but uh
02:22i got to tell you marsh is incredible third down catch was just simply amazing that was unbelievable
02:32now go ahead now i know you don't see this what we see at home on the television right now
02:40after the
02:41first couple weeks of football action when they're doing a review they actually have the actual audio
02:48from the officials that are in the truck now and it's wherever they do the the play calling and they
02:57have the actual audio playing back of how they're making the decision now i don't know if you knew that
03:02not and it was so interesting watching them it's like oh yeah sure sure he's he's told what is that
03:09it's like it's good yeah is every conference doing that or is that just a big 10 thing or
03:14it was the only thing i saw it was during your game it was it was it was amazing okay
03:18well i guess
03:20that's a good thing more transparency well again you felt the momentum change did you feel it on the
03:27sideline too with the players absolutely we uh we had a little bit of the deer in the headlights
03:31look in that first first half especially the first quarter when things didn't didn't go real
03:35well and so that was that was something that we need to work on we need to handle and respond
03:39to those situations better than we did but but uh had a little talk at halftime and and let them
03:45know
03:45exactly what needed to happen and to their credit uh they came out in the second half and and did
03:49exactly what we had preached and and uh really started to get uh some good things happening on the field
03:55well mr 511 hiller uh snuck in with a nice touchdown that was that was a move i just felt
04:02like somebody buttered him up with uh wesson oil and let him through there yeah it was uh sacks
04:11i i i don't know if you got the final total and i tried to find the total and there
04:16was
04:18difference how many sacks did we have during the game defensive wise i think we had four i think we
04:23had
04:23four came away with four and and uh that was uh then we had the uh the one takeaway so
04:29we always
04:30keep track of impact plays and impact plays or sacks plus takeaways and so i'm pretty sure it was a
04:35total of five four sacks and one uh one takeaway and a good friend of yours gave you some praise

04:43meyer urban it was the play with uh bryce to jj uh and he said it was simply a thing

04:53yeah with touchdown pass you're talking about yes yeah jj ran that skinny post and and uh bro bryce
05:00threw a tremendous ball frozen rope uh and and really was uh it was executed extremely well now i
05:08i know you're not supposed to really give up some of your secrets but he mentioned a play called 38

05:14can you elaborate on that who mentioned that urban meyer uh i'll have to check with her
05:21what he said we used to do a play called 38 spire yeah i'll have to i'll have to uh
05:27go ahead and pick
05:28his brain and see what he was talking about because i don't remember and trey with a nice field gold
05:32he's
05:33he's been spot on this year this is amazing every time we've called on which hasn't been very often but
05:39when he's been called upon he's he's come through and and he's looked very confident and and uh he's
05:44really striking the ball excellent in practice and that's you know that was really uh something that
05:48we were a little concerned with in the beginning of camp he wasn't real confident but he's built his
05:52confidence through the through the last several weeks and he is kicking the ball exceptionally well
05:56right now second half uh after the pep talk as you said it seemed to clink in but uh i
06:02want to ask
06:03you a personal question what what is it like when you're pissed off i've never seen you pissed off
06:08on the sidelines and you just look cool as nothing bothers you you're cool as a cucumber and your
06:15play calling and all and all that and just watching things from the sideline well i think the the team
06:20will uh take the head coach's demeanor on to a certain extent and if you're all over the place and
06:25and screaming and panicking and i think that's not a good look and not a good vibe and so uh
06:31hopefully
06:31bring some stability now we still want a ton of energy and juice from the players obviously and
06:36and uh really lean on our strength coaches our strength coaches do a great job of
06:40on the sidelines and getting the guys uh hyped up nothing like those good old days of the woody
06:46hayes chokeholds hey yeah yeah you want to avoid that if you can yeah how do you chalk up andre
06:54marsh's performance i thought i thought he did fantastic uh i agree and it was great to see him get
06:59on track and go for over 100 i mean that's his that's his he's a big play receiver and he's
07:05got
07:05exceptional hands he runs excellent routes and uh we had a concerted effort going into this game to
07:12get him the ball more off because we knew that we had not done a good job of that in
07:15the first couple
07:16weeks well i had no luck uh getting the definition of 38 spies probably a big secret but can you
07:22explain to
07:23this a defensive touchdown for michigan and they put on the celebration sunglasses yeah that's
07:32something that's been here for a few years i guess and the players came to me way back in
07:36spring or summer and said hey coach here's the tradition that we've had and we love it we want
07:41to hang on to it and they explained it to me i said okay you know no problem let's do
07:46it and if that's
07:47something that gets you excited and and uh you've been doing and you want to hang on to it you
07:52know
07:52let's go now what player goes to dollar general to get those sunglasses that's a good question
07:58i don't know much about sunglasses or what brand they are or anything but uh i'll have to check on
08:03the
08:03uh the origin of those when we're getting them and the feel-good story of the whole game again
08:08backup quarterback timing hard uh against it his family was there and everything gets the ball boom
08:14touchdown right off the bat and wow did that look nice yeah i've been singing tommy's praises ever
08:20since last spring uh he practices the right way he studies tape uh endlessly every time i walk by that
08:27quarterback room tommy's in there and so it was great to see all that work and the hard work and
08:32practice in the film room translate onto the game field and and he had a really nice series of plays
08:37there and taking away nothing for bryce underwood's performance which was so much better but it's good to
08:43know it is good to know just in case tommy's there for the backup you're right 100 accurate
08:49all right this saturday big house iowa hawkeyes what's the game plan well first of all their defense
08:56is playing lights out i mean they're leading the country in yards per game they're leading the country
09:01in points per game and so we got to work cut out for us offensively but but uh we've just
09:07got to come
09:07up with a plan and attack you know attack uh you know what they do they're very consistent and very
09:12steady uh with what they do you're going to get a four down front you're going to get quarters
09:16coverage in the back end uh most all the time and so you've got to be really well prepared to
09:22uh
09:22attack that and they're so fundamentally and technique sound they they're not going to beat
09:26you with a bunch of scheme they're going to play just a few things and play them very well that's
09:30their mo any sneaky stuff you're going to pull oh we got tons of sneaky stuff can't can't reveal it
09:37right now but yeah exactly need to know bases and i don't need to know right there you go now
09:43uh what
09:44do the players do on a monday because i know it's a nice work schedule throughout the week you know
09:49practice and everything but what specifically do the players do on a monday after a big game okay their
09:56monday will start early in the morning 6 45 a.m film session we'll watch the previous game and get
10:01that to bed and make the corrections and uh that takes about an hour hour and 15 minutes then they'll
10:08go to class do their thing academically and then they'll come back at 205 and they'll lift weights
10:12and that takes about an hour and 15 minutes when you lift and and condition then you go from there
10:18to a kick meeting which is about a 30 minute shot we've we've we've watched all the previous games
10:23kicking film we had not we just watch offense defense in the morning so when we come back in
10:27the afternoon after the lift that's when we put the kicking film on then we have a team meeting and
10:32recognize our uh what we call our champions and our winning efforts and our player of the game and all
10:37that type of stuff show a few highlights from the game and then we break and once that team meeting's
10:42over it's all about the next opponent the next thing they got is uh od meetings and walk through
10:46which lasts about an hour and then now we feed them a victory meal you know you get a you
10:52know crab legs and
10:53steak and all that stuff and we win so that that is a typical monday and and uh you know
11:01when you
11:02play games that are not saturday games that can be altered but fortunately every game we have this
11:07year is a saturday game i've never had that happen in my coaching career so that's a real nice thing
11:11to
11:11be able to stay on the same schedule week after week throughout the course of the season now can you
11:16reveal to me the player of the game well the player of the game on offense was andrew marsh and
11:22he did
11:23a great job and like we said it was and we also uh rewarded bryce with a game ball after
11:28the game
11:28right after the game because he had played his best game of the season and uh so it's andrew marsh
11:33yeah
11:34now of course the crowd has been behind you over 100 000 in the in the big house any special
