00:00Let's stay on topic on the third day of the general debate at the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
00:06And for that, let's go live to New York City with our colleague Jorge Estoso for everything that has to
00:10do with today's speeches,
00:12especially after President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas addressed the General Assembly.
00:16Welcome, Jorge, to From the South.
00:21In this morning session here at the UN, it was addressing the session,
00:27the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, but he had to do it via conference.
00:35Why? Because the authorities of the U.S. did not grant him a visa to get into the U.S.
00:43in order to address.
00:44This is supposed to be a neutral territory that everyone has access to,
00:50but the U.S. authorities have decided that he could not get into the country.
00:58Therefore, he has been doing his address to the Assembly this morning,
01:05where he mentioned the very, very, very strong trend that he's seen in terms of Israel
01:14aiming to practice colonialism at the extreme.
01:21He said, let's talk and let's avoid a new nagba that happened in 1948,
01:28where about 800,000 Palestinians have been sent out of their territory.
01:34And now, he said, all type of abuses are being practised day to day by Israel
01:43in terms of killing children, destroying schools, hospitals, etc., etc.
01:52He, of course, emphasised in using the word genocide that is taking place,
01:58where tens of thousands of people are being killed,
02:01and also he abuses, he mentioned the abuses in the West Bank
02:08with the Palestinians trying to be also expelled from that territory.
02:14Very strong messages coming from, again, from Mahmoud Abbas, but via conference.
02:22The rest of the morning, by the end of the morning,
02:24he's going to be talking the president of the prime minister of Israel,
02:31Benjamin Netanyahu, and for him, yes, for him, it was granted a visa
02:37and all sort of support by the U.S. authorities.
02:41Also, he's going to be talking the president of Uruguay, Yamandu Orsi,
02:46one of the few countries in Latin America with a progressive government.
02:52He's going to be talking also the president of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, throughout the morning.
02:58So, so far, we're going to see the reactions of Mr. Mahmoud Abbas,
03:03and we are anticipating what we have known already,
03:08that, of course, Benjamin Netanyahu is going to be at the defensive
03:12and is going to try to justify what is being called in the general world community,
03:20the genocide that has been practicing also authorities from the U.N.
03:26You remember that at the very beginning of this conference,
03:30the Secretary General Antonio Guterres was pointing the finger
03:35that what he also mentioned as abuse or genocide, in a way, of Israel, again,
03:43the Palestinians, has even touched the representatives of the U.N.
03:50People of the U.N. has been attacked.
03:53Offices of the U.N. has been attacked in Gaza,
03:56and definitely there is no respect for the international law,
04:02something that Abbas was mentioning,
04:04no respect in international law,
04:06no respect for human rights.
04:08All that has been denounced this morning
04:09by the president of the Authority of Palestine.
04:13We get back to you now.
04:15Thank you, Jorge, for this information.
