00:00I want to make it clear that this isn't about one person specifically and certainly not just
00:04about anybody that works at this station because I think there's a chance that that people might
00:10take it that way uh they're just the last person that I heard say this and I think that there's
00:16a lot of uncertainty about what is going to happen in Cleveland on Sunday with Browns fans and
00:23Deshaun Watson all of which has all of our curiosity and understand that but for about
00:29the fourth time and it doesn't matter if it's this station other stations uh print media I've heard
00:35enough people that I really like and really respect say this line about you gotta give Deshaun Watson a
00:42chance on Sunday as if he is Rocky as if he is some mythological this is some mythological story
00:50and this great comeback story and you gotta give him credit and I want to make it clear
00:53they're not about Deshaun Watson he's gonna go out there on Sunday and I'm gonna root for Deshaun
00:57Watson right uh he's the Browns starting quarterback but that's the he's coming off a good game we've
01:02given him his flowers this week I want to see more good stuff from Deshaun because winning's more fun
01:07than losing it's not about the Browns by the way who I think have done their job to try and
01:12protect
01:12Deshaun from the outside noise I don't begrudge them for doing that they really care about the player
01:17and the person and they want to do right by him I respect that that to me is one of
01:22the good things
01:22that has come out of this is them trying to to have Deshaun's back whether you or I like it
01:28or not
01:28but for the media to come out and and multiple members of the media to play a peace broker here
01:36or or trying to coach Browns fans who've spent the last five years of their lives dealing with the
01:42minutia the weight of the Deshaun experience and that goes all the way to people on national media
01:48slagging the Browns uh for Browns fans for the moves of the Browns and acting like all of Cleveland
01:55supported whatever Deshaun had going on off the field before he came here all the way to uh multiple
02:01busted years all the way to the death of the previous Super Bowl window all the way to a you
02:07know what
02:07four Saturdays ago three Saturdays ago Deshaun Watson just going the hell off on Browns fans whether you
02:13find that justifiable or not the point is no matter what you feel about Deshaun Watson if it's hope if
02:20you like him if you defend him if you dislike him if you want to boo him as long as
02:24there's nothing
02:25undue toward going on here as long as booing is the worst as you've got going on I don't think

02:31anybody in the media's job to tell Browns fans how to approach or how to feel about Sunday and this
02:38idea of oh you gotta give him a shot no they're showing up to First Energy Stadium they are giving
02:43him a shot if they're turning on their TVs on Sunday to watch the Browns they're giving him a shot
02:48but this infantilizing thing that certain members I want to say it I like and respect pretty much
02:55everyone I've heard say it no matter where they work or how close I am with them personally I like
03:01the people that are saying it but it feels like specific to Deshaun on Sunday there's an element of us
03:07the Cleveland media that has forgotten it's not your job to make sure people are nice to Deshaun
03:12Watson on Sunday it's not your job to have the Browns back on this our job we are the conduit

03:19the fans we are an extension of the fans we are not the extension of the Cleveland Browns we're proud
03:25partners of the Cleveland Browns and I am happy that we have that great relationship but it is no
03:31one's job here or or in this Cleveland media to try and pressure Browns fans to do anything that
03:37they don't want to do specific to Deshaun Watson because you've earned the way you feel no matter
03:42how you feel about Deshaun Watson yeah I mean I left yesterday wondering if I was taking crazy pills
03:47uh the amount of pushback I got for saying that I would stand up and boo Deshaun Watson and people
03:52acting as if I was the crazy person in all this or people acting as if uh there was something
03:56I I'm
03:57saying that is just outlandish when the guy cost us the previous four years of our football fandom
04:02like I I just you have a right to do whatever you want to do if you want to boo
04:05you're not a bad fan
04:06and it doesn't make you any less of a fan either if you decide that you want to boo the
04:10amount of
04:10people that are just acting as if you can't possibly be a Browns fan if you stand up and boo

04:19and voice your displeasure and conversely you have the right to cheer him if one game's enough for you
04:24I hold no ill will or judgment towards you it's not how I see it as of yet but again

04:31way you want to feel about Deshaun Watson as long as what you're doing isn't illegal when it comes to
04:36your actions at the stadium or your actions at home or how you tweet about Deshaun Watson
04:40like I just I I got really really because I've thought about it all week and I've been ramped up
04:46about it all week and it's like Browns fans have been the bigger person through all of this
04:51through all of it yeah oh because they cheered his injury once and again I was at that stadium
04:55it wasn't 90 it wasn't it wasn't uh 75 percent or more of the people think about the amount of
05:01Browns fans that are already willing just to sweep it under the rug you talk about giving them a chance
05:04like the amount the amount of Browns fans that after one game are trying to erase the previous
05:08four years like there's it's it's wild to me but this is the this is where we live right now

05:13think this this idea of and listen I'm the way I like to live is I will tell you what
05:19I think and it's
05:19something that I think you and I uh have always bonded on is you will tell me how you think
05:25but
05:25you don't tell me how to live and I don't tell you how to live and I sure as hell
05:28am not here to tell
05:29any Browns fan on any side of any aisle how to live either and we have gotten way too comfortable

05:352026 telling each other it's not enough to live your own life your own truth you have to tell other
05:40people how they should live their life and their truth and I think it is disingenuous and I question
05:46your motives I question your thinking when you come out here and call Browns fans out and say oh
05:52you gotta give them a chance no you don't why well why are we so busy gatekeeping fandom in general
05:58anyway like why are we so busy being like uh you only can fan this way you can only fan
06:03if it's a
06:03positive interaction like no part of being a fan I don't know I've always enjoyed the idea that
06:08sometimes you really really hate your favorite team sometimes you love your favorite team sometimes
06:11you give your favorite team the benefit of the doubt and sometimes you're really pissed at your
06:14favorite team like it is an emotional roller coaster that that to me has always been the fun
06:19of being a fan it's not just always everything is awesome and why because I think what really uh
06:24frustrates me is this is the the continued normalization of of trying to streamline this
06:31relationship and ignore things that have happened because oh it's not in the best interest of the
06:35Browns uh the the Browns fans best interest is to uh I don't know spend your money on the Browns
06:42and then express how you feel whichever way you want but this idea that Browns fans owe it to the
06:47team or they oh it's gonna hurt the team yeah you don't know it to the team oh it's gonna
06:50the team's
06:51gonna crater I'm sorry then you think nothing of the leadership you think nothing of Deshaun you
06:56think nothing of the people over there because quite frankly those guys are a lot of dudes a fair
07:01amount of really good dudes with a lot going on in life that can handle somebody making a negative
07:05sound in their general direction if that's as bad as it got on Sunday well one thing I think we
07:10can all
07:10agree on is that no matter what the interaction is at the front of the game how they play on
07:15Sunday
07:15is going to be what happens whether it's cheers or whether it's boos even people like myself that
07:19would again stand up and boo Deshaun Watson before the game ever gets underway if he's dealing in the
07:24third quarter only thing I can do is stand up and cheer so if you want to cheer if you
07:28want to boo
07:29I or anything in between I do not begrudge you one bit all right for the Brown side of things

07:36you this is not me throwing shade at the Browns they can they're trying to protect the player
07:40in any which way and I respect the hell out of that for them doing that and honestly it's not
07:45about Deshaun either all right uh we've got this opportunity here to maybe have a new relationship
07:51with Deshaun even if it's still based on a flawed relationship in the last four years
07:55but for anyone in the Cleveland media to come out here when they're supposed to be
07:59the voice of the fans and the conduit for the fan frustrations thoughts whatever to then
08:05guardrail or what was your word police gatekeep uh I think it's absolute trash and I think everyone
08:12everyone that has done that needs to remember what your damn job is which is not to tell Browns fans
08:18how to think you want to say how you think that's fine that's different than then saying oh give him
08:23a come on this isn't leave it to beaver it's Cleveland Ohio Browns fans are diehard rabid fans who've
08:31been disappointed and let down and if it and by the way if you're cheering for Deshaun I want to

08:36this good for you yeah that's fine too I I again I don't begrudge anybody that wants to do that

08:45you're booing all of a sudden you're just I don't know a less than fan you're you're you're less than
08:50than the other Browns fans that are taking this somehow high ground and all of this no no I'm not

08:55about how the previous four years went and I want to voice that displeasure and I think this is
08:59important this is not about oh you're booing a one-on-one team or you're booing no you're booing
09:05the as of right now the worst trade in NFL history and you're booing a quarterback that a month ago
09:11took a blowtorch to Browns fans and even though I think there's been a lot of great inroads made
09:17since that it doesn't change what happened a month ago so again specifically to the Cleveland media
09:24just remember whose side you really are on and then allow this thing because I think quite frankly
09:30the people doing that are making this a bigger deal than it really is well the funny thing about
09:34I've thought a lot about this in the last 24 hours like I don't even know that they're going to
09:37do
09:38offensive player introductions I don't know that uh in concert everyone's even going to know the right
09:42time to even boo Deshaun Watson so I don't know that it's going to be nearly impactful as maybe people
09:47think that it would be if we did this maybe a week ago but yeah like this is not it's
09:52guys just you'll
09:53figure it out you'll be able to boo if you want to boo but ultimately when the game gets going
09:56then the play will dictate what we decide with Deshaun Watson for that game one of the reasons why
10:01that it engendered such frustration from me is one Browns fans don't really have a choice
10:07yeah some days come in regardless like they don't but I do think just by showing up to that stadium
10:13just by turning on the game you've made a choice and you are giving him a chance to win you
10:19over
10:19I think that says something after the last four years of what has happened and and what is done
10:26between Deshaun and the Browns and Browns and Browns fans like showing up and turning on your
10:32TVs that's as much as anyone can ask about uh ask from Browns fans with regards to Deshaun until we
10:40get enough of what we saw this last Sunday yeah but the first part I think is the important part
10:44that
10:44you said there is like you don't have a choice and I I think we've been trying to figure out
10:48all week
10:48long or at least some people have been trying to figure out all week long well why boo why why
10:51what is what is booing really accomplish what accomplishes the idea that you don't have a
10:56choice in who the quarterback is Munkins made that abundantly clear the fans don't have a vote in this
11:00this is an American idol this is a football team they make the decisions we don't have to just go
11:05along with every decision that they make booing is the outlet to tell them that we disagree with what
11:09they've done and so yeah like this is part of it this is this is part of uh being able
11:13to get out
11:14some of your outrage and being able to get out some of the idea that you don't agree
11:17that we spend an entire off season trying to figure out who the quarterback was going to be
11:21for it to always be Deshaun Watson and every bit of adversity that teams face becomes the thing that
11:26either helps you succeed or doesn't this unpleasantness with Deshaun is an opportunity
11:32and I know that that is a young locker room yeah they have an opportunity there because again they'll
11:37I think they're going to be able to tell like when Denzel Boston runs out of the the tunnel there

11:42don't think you're going to hear a lot of booze I think he knows I think I think he's got
11:45a good
11:45understanding of what's happening if he hears booze but even then like again like they're going to
11:50have their feelings about Deshaun which they should that's a guy in their locker room that's their
11:53quarterback I don't begrudge them feeling different about Deshaun than you myself or anybody out there
11:59feel but again like I don't look at this and go well if you boo him there's a chance they
12:05could play
12:05bad no they're football players and every moment for adversity is an opportunity to overcome it
12:14and if you can't overcome booing think about all the things injuries uh self-inflicted uh plays um
12:21bad bad luck right all the things that happen in a football game if booing is the one booing while
12:29coming out of the tunnel is the thing that does you in you didn't have a chance in that game

12:34I think I have too much respect for that organization including by the way Deshaun I think Deshaun should
12:40be ready to go right you've done the thing he hasn't shown it to us yet so like I mean
12:44he's got
12:44he's got to earn that but my expectation is that he goes out there and it doesn't get to him
12:49because
12:49he has something they didn't have previously when he went off on the fans a month ago and what does
12:54he have he's got great tape in a real meaningful NFL game and a win on his resume that should
13:00matter
13:00to you more than 10 percent of people who might voice a negative opinion of you while you run out
13:06on the stadium listen if it's if it's uh if you just got a big first down and you're up

13:12nothing on Sunday and somebody boos all right I probably wouldn't go there right I think that's
13:17yeah that's what we're talking about that's right tell the fans to read the room a little bit as well
13:21you know that's why I think this first couple drives are going to be incredibly uh telling as to
13:28whether or not Deshaun can actually get over it like you gave him the benefit of the doubt that he

13:31get over this and he can do this quickly I don't know that yet and I'm that's not what I'm
13:35waiting to find out on Sunday if he can get past the idea that fans fans of boom there's a

13:40people that don't like him and they're never gonna like him let's go with gib in Cleveland

15:02social media of oh if I see this on Sunday uh yeah it's somebody else choosing to voice their

15:15that person as any media member carrying water for Deshaun Watson and telling fans how to feel
15:21about Sunday as well I felt good I felt very glad I felt good I just I know I just
15:26get upset at people
15:27the entire time we've been talking this for months about what would happen with Deshaun and I thought
15:30I made this abundantly clear this has nothing to do with me liking Shador Sanders this has everything
15:35to do with me disliking the whole Deshaun Watson experience from start to finish that's what this is
15:41that Shador has not been in our lives long enough okay Deshaun has Deshaun's been why every day day in
15:48day out this team isn't good and has been kneecapped the way that it has and why we have to
15:53talk about
15:53an eight win team over the previous two years that's on Deshaun Watson yes it's on the front office too
15:58and
15:58it's on Andrew Barry it's a lot of people that it's on but it's on Deshaun Watson that's what gets
16:02me angry and the idea that anybody would even think this is about like some I don't know ulterior motive
16:08to see Shador Sanders play Shador will play or he won't play that's not I'm not sweating that it's
16:12all about Deshaun and how you should still have disdain for four years of your life just being
