00:00I guess the way they were striking out, was that a playoff record?
00:0519 strikeouts in a nine-inning game?
00:07I know Foster Griffin had seven, right?
00:11Oh, he was great.
00:11And that was the most by a reliever.
00:13Yep.
00:14By a single reliever.
00:15And also, like, the free and come in the first inning.
00:18And his stat line was that anytime you're in the same company as Warren Spahn,
00:24that was the company he was in.
00:26That guy was pretty good.
00:26Second reference of the week of Warren Spahn, everybody.
00:31This is a big Warren Spahn show.
00:33We are educating baseball people.
00:34We know what we're talking about when it comes to Warren Spahn, all right?
00:37What a game, Kenny.
00:38What a feel-good game in that 99% of their players contributed in a positive way.
00:44Yeah, that's a good point.
00:45It wasn't like one of those games where just a couple guys got through,
00:47and for the rest of the series, you're like, I don't know.
00:49They still got our number.
00:51No.
00:52They unleashed the Hounds.
00:54This was amazing.
00:55This was – and think about yesterday.
00:58And I half expected Owen to have a whole montage of me going,
01:02got to move Jose down.
01:03I expect nothing out of Jose.
01:04No, I was open to the idea.
01:05Jose's injured.
01:06I was open to the idea.
01:07Come on later in the show.
01:08Was that Jose's best playoff game in his career?
01:10I was absolutely open to the idea, though.
01:12So I can't – I wasn't fighting you tooth and nail.
01:15I was absolutely open to it.
01:16Okay, who else do you want me to talk bad about?
01:18Parker Messick.
01:19You were – I don't think –
01:20I don't know if Parker Messick's the right guy to go to today.
01:22No, I don't mean to bail you out or anything like that.
01:24But there's a difference between talking bad about somebody
01:26and trying to do something that's going to help the team.
01:29Like, you weren't sitting there going,
01:30Jose is a net negative.
01:32You weren't saying that.
01:33You weren't saying that he wasn't helpful.
01:34You weren't saying to bench him.
01:36You just said, hey, maybe we kick around moving him in the order.
01:40And I didn't think they would just because of the whole, you know,
01:44situation about, yeah, the veteran stuff.
01:46I don't think they're going to move him.
01:47I don't think you want to do that in that game.
01:49Like, we were all worried.
01:50You and I were all worried about, like, okay,
01:52how's Tanner Bobby going to react to this situation?
01:56And they left Jose Ramirez in.
01:59Jose Ramirez did a great job.
02:00But it wasn't like you were saying the quiet part –
02:04it wasn't like you were standing alone.
02:05I think you were maybe saying the quiet part out loud,
02:07and I think a lot of people agreed with you because we were in a desperate
02:09mode.
02:10We were down 0-2.
02:11We were facing elimination yesterday.
02:13And then, honestly, I think the guy who was obviously the most happy
02:18that the bats came around, obviously, is Steven Vogt.
02:22Because the way the game started, it was like, oh, my God,
02:26this couldn't have been worse.
02:27Couldn't have been worse for you.
02:28You made this decision.
02:30It was unorthodox.
02:33Like, there were – it was weird.
02:35During the show yesterday, there were – like I told you,
02:38there were baseball people getting in, like scouts, real scouts,
02:41who listen to us, and maybe they just find it to be entertainment,
02:47which is fine because, you know, I mean, I'm not going to sit there
02:50and act like I know more baseball than my buddy the scout over there
02:53in Newton Falls or, you know, Coach Rob or anything like that.
02:57But you had other people, like, getting in, like, no, this makes sense.
03:01And then after the show, I cannot tell you how many people I ran into
03:05during the day yesterday.
03:05I was in Cleveland all day yesterday.
03:07And it was like, I can't believe he's doing this.
03:09I can't believe they're not putting Tanner Bobby out there.
03:11I hate this idea.
03:12I hate this idea.
03:13I hate this idea.
03:15And when it was 1-0 Chicago, and the place is rocking,
03:19and it was packed, absolutely packed.
03:22Kenny, I thought the series was over.
03:23An electric atmosphere.
03:24I thought the series was over.
03:26Exactly.
03:26Freaking top of the first.
03:29And I'm going, man, like, all the blame seemed to go from line up,
03:35vote, it's on vote, can't believe vote did this,
03:37can't believe he would do something so stupid.
03:40And, boy, you want to talk about a bailout of bailouts.
03:43Four-run third inning, busted out with Joe Adele.
03:46Oh, Adele, come on.
03:47And then with what Ramirez did.
03:48Second triple of the series.
03:49Oh, my God.
03:50Well, second triple in two games.
03:51Yeah, and we've got to talk about Jose and the play he makes
03:55with the bases loaded, where it looks like the Guardians had
03:59a quasi-shift on, and he gets to that ball,
04:04and the game would have been tied at least.
04:07And who knows where the inning goes at that point.
04:09Better believe it.
04:10I mean, that was magnificent.
04:12And it was just the all-around Jose game.
04:14Then he had a little luck with a blooper later.
04:17Everything was aces for Jose.
04:19The way he just calmly plucked that ball up
04:23and made the throw to first, and it was so deflating
04:26to everybody in that place, because that place was bonkers.
04:29And they were looking, they were a little down
04:31after the Adele triple, but when they loaded him up there
04:34and Gattis was just looking like he could cost us the game,
04:40Jose came up, and what a dazzling performance.
04:43It was.
04:44Huge.
04:44It was great to stay alive, and I wonder how many Guardians fans
04:48feel differently about the series.
04:49Like, okay, you got one win.
04:51You got Parker Messick on the mound tonight.
04:54How different are you feeling about the chances?
04:56Totally different.
04:57You are?
04:57I am.
04:58You are, okay.
04:58I am.
04:59All right, because you can be pessimistic,
05:01but a lot of people are secretly you when it comes to this stuff.
05:04I thought after they lost game one, I'm like, whoop, oh boy.
05:07And then they lost game two.
05:08I'm like, well, that's serious.
05:09That's it.
05:09That's absolutely it.
05:11I think most felt that way, yeah.
05:12And a game like that, again, the way they did it,
05:16where it was a team effort.
05:18And now, you don't have to worry.
05:20It just feels to me.
05:21I don't know.
05:22You guys give your honest thoughts.
05:23It seems to me like there was something hovering over everybody.
05:30They were pressing.
05:32They had had some things not go their way when it came to some luck.
05:36Some batting luck didn't go their way.
05:38The Adele triple that looked like it easily could have been a home run
05:41in like 19 of 30 parts.
05:43It's a home run.
05:43Nothing was going their way.
05:45And then the first inning, the first inning yesterday, we had, I mean,
05:49the Jose Ramirez had a hard hit ball.
05:51Real quick, they highlighted the hell out of that triple yesterday.
05:54Yeah.
05:54Or the one that would have been out a lot.
05:56They said it was the only 400-foot hit that he's hit in his career
05:59that's never been a home run.
06:00Right, right.
06:01That feels great.
06:03Awesome.
06:04Yesterday, Ramirez, DeLauder, hard hit balls.
06:08They're in the first inning.
06:09And it just seemed like this is not meant to be.
06:11We are not getting anything to go our way.
06:14And that changed over the course of the next three hours, almost four hours.
06:19Everything changed.
06:20And it feels like that was such a change in attitude, confidence.
06:26Yep.
06:26And now you feel like you can get to him.
06:28Now you're not worried.
06:29There's nothing the White Sox present where you're like, oh, boy,
06:32we don't have anything for him.
06:34Everything changed over the course of three and a half hours.
06:362-1-6-4-7-4-0092.
06:38So, like, obviously they're still alive.
06:41Do you feel the way that Lyman feels?
06:44This is a very strong amount of positivity I'm hearing from you.
06:48I'm actually the one who's being a little bit.
06:50You're reserved?
06:51Reserved, yes.
06:52I'm being a little bit more reserved.
06:54Like, hey, man, it's been a weird year where it's like, all right,
07:00you shoot your mouth off, they lose three in a row.
07:03You think that they're going to suck up the room and this is the end of the
07:06season, they win six in a row.
07:09It's been a weird year.
07:11And it's not about any sort of, like, oh, luck, this, that, and the other,
07:14or affecting luck, or anything like that.
07:17It's just a simple thought of, all right, you got Messick on the mound.
07:22Things went your way yesterday.
07:24Can you get him to go your way tonight?
07:26With Parker Messick on the mound, I'm feeling really good.
07:28Second time through, feeling really good.
07:30It wasn't like he was bad the first time out, feeling really good.
07:34Because now this sets up, it sets up how you wanted it.
07:37You got the one win, and now it sets up where it's like, hey, now I got Messick.
07:43Then I can go to Gavin Williams in a game five, but I got to get to a game five.
07:48So I still got to live.
07:51Yesterday was great.
07:52I loved hearing the guys being positive and all the stuff in the clubhouse
07:56and Joe Adele's stuff during the warm-up show with Jeff.
08:01Like, that was awesome.
08:03It still has to change, though, in how this goes.
08:07So I'm reserved.
08:09I'm hopeful.
08:11Absolutely hopeful.
08:12But I'm a little bit, I'm more reserved than you right now.
08:15Jay in Warren.
08:16You're next up on the fan.
08:17Hello, Jay.
08:19Hey, good morning, brothers.
08:20How y'all doing?
08:20Doing well, Jay.
08:21Go ahead.
08:22Hey, so I was out in the city of Chicago yesterday, actually,
08:25and the whole morning, the city felt different.
08:29People had their Jim Tomey socks jerseys on, and they were just chanting,
08:33yeah, we're going to win.
08:34It was not like that by the time I left Chicago late last night.
08:37I actually messaged a buddy of mine, and I said, how are you feeling?
08:40And he said, if we don't win today, tomorrow, we are in trouble.
08:45If we got to go back to Cleveland, we're in trouble.
08:47It's a very weird, that's a weird region, and Lima knows.
08:51I've only been, like, twice and once was with Lima.
08:54And it seems that, like, everybody's a Cubs fan, da-da-da-da-da, Cubs fan.
08:58Well, that's, like, more across the country.
09:01Like, it seems to be like if you're in the city, like,
09:04the hardcore Chicago people are White Sox fans.
09:08And so, yeah, they're feeling pretty good about their team.
09:10And I did catch that.
09:13I got to tell you, Jay, like, thank you very much for the call.
09:14I did kind of feel that way at the end of that game yesterday.
09:18That I, like, we were watching in real time, and it happened to work out perfectly
09:21where we had an interview with, like, I was watching this with Meredith
09:24because we were doing the Browns show, the preview show.
09:27And the game ended during our Corey Bohorkas interview.
09:31And so, everybody knows.
09:32I go during the day, interview Corey Bohorkas.
09:34We'll have it for you tonight, da-da-da-da-da.
09:36Not just Corey, like any player, right?
09:38And it happened to end at the right time.
09:40So, Meredith has a sound on.
09:42And Michael Mark Koch is walking around getting some things ready.
09:45Volnick's getting things ready for his show.
09:46And it's like, man, it's not their usual, like, all right, it's 2-1.
09:52Let's go get them tomorrow.
09:53Now, I'm sure it'll be that way tonight.
09:55But there was that weird kind of feeling I was getting from the stadium
09:59and all the other stuff and checking the stuff on social media
10:02after last night's game about it.
10:04Because, again, Parker Messick, Parker Messick's a hell of a pitcher.
10:08Gavin Williams is a hell of a pitcher.
10:09And both had quality outings.
10:11Obviously, you were upset about him being pulled in the sixth inning
10:15just the other day with Gavin Williams.
10:17So, like, now the advantages go in your favor.
10:20And I wonder, you know, what's the only advantage that Chicago has?
10:23Okay, they're at home.
10:24That's an advantage.
10:25And then it's two games to win one.
10:26And it's two games to win one.
10:27Those are the advantages.
10:29Those are still strong advantages that you're dealing with.
10:31But I think everything else kind of falls into the Guardians' favor again.
10:34Hey, look, the fact that, you know, we sat here and we argued and argued.
10:40And then it picked up really on the afternoon show before and really throughout the day.
10:43I heard Baskin Phelps obviously talk about it, too.
10:45But online, the conversation online about what to do for yesterday's starter,
10:51the fact that that was rendered kind of meaningless very early on in that game,
10:56that you were able to tie things up, and then we didn't have to worry about that,
11:01was awesome.
11:02Was awesome, too.
11:02And now you're like, hey, at least Espino got some action.
11:06You know, I know it wasn't the best action,
11:08and you were worried that it could cost us a whole series.
11:10We were all worried that it could cost us a whole series.
11:12The fact that it didn't mean anything, and it's like the series kind of resets.
11:16The only bad thing is it's 2-1 and not, you know, 1-1.
11:19That's the only bad part about it.
11:20But you feel like now you're not only in the series, you have some advantages.
11:25Yes, they have the advantage of being home and having two to win one.
11:28But now Jose Ramirez showing that he's just not dead as a hitter in this season.
11:34I also like.
11:35That is just monumental because now they're going to be terrified.
11:38And they actually pitched around him.
11:40It is very second to bad.
11:42They pitched around him.
11:43Like, I didn't think they would do that.
11:45I thought maybe they weren't scared of him.
11:48I also like that we're playing back-to-back because I don't like the day-off stuff.
11:55I didn't like four days off or five days off before they played game one of the series.
12:00I didn't like that.
12:01You know, I wanted.
12:03Now I got a chance to get some consistency in there.
12:05So the bats warmed up.
12:07Can they stay warm tonight?
12:09I think you have a better chance of keeping the bats warm the day after a hot game hitting
12:14than what you would if you had a day off and all that other crap to think about it.
12:18Warren in a car.
12:19You're next up on the fan.
12:20Hello.
12:21Morning, guys.
12:22How we doing?
12:23We're doing well, Warren.
12:24Go right on ahead, friend.
12:25I agree.
12:26Hey, just like I don't want to say I called it yesterday, but they threw them a curveball
12:32yesterday big time.
12:33And I get it.
12:34We gave up the run early, but it imploded.
12:37Nobody saw the kid that pitched second coming in there.
12:40We were thinking Cantillo for sure.
12:42Well, he had great stuff.
12:44Everybody thought it was going to be Joey Cantillo there.
12:47You're right about that.
12:47Why do you think they didn't just start Foster?
12:50Why do you think he just wasn't the starter yesterday?
12:54I do think that Boda's in love with Espino.
12:57I mean, he's throwing 100 miles an hour on every pitch, right?
13:00Yeah.
13:00He's brought that up.
13:01I think you really wanted to give him an opportunity to see if he could, you know, do
13:06it.
13:07I just, when the crowd is basically drowning out the announced team.
13:13Couldn't even hear the sideline report.
13:15It felt like, uh-oh, we've got the young kid in here.
13:18And it doesn't matter how fast you throw when you start the game with three balls.
13:22It's a little tight clinching time.
13:25Yeah.
13:26He only spoke, vote only spoke, and Warren, thank you for the call.
13:28He only spoke about Foster Griffin yesterday and the innings he had.
13:34Jose, like that was about it.
13:35Like he, the rationale behind what was done wasn't, seemingly wasn't really addressed.
13:43Uh, so it still is a bit of a mystery.
13:46Yeah.
13:47I don't think there's any time to question him on Espino right now, right?
13:50No, but, but like, okay, we thought it was going to be Espino, then Cantillo, and it
13:54ended up being Espino and then Foster Griffin.
13:56And what Foster Griffin ended up being was a master stroke.
13:59I mean, that was fantastic.
14:01I mean, three solid innings like that and the way he did it, that was incredible.
14:05You've got to think there's got to be some time for Bybee to come in, right?
14:08I mean, they, they have.
14:09Yeah, the Rays series.
14:11Well, he's going to, if we end up pulling this off, he's going to have to start the Rays series.
14:16Coming up at 8.20 this morning, Mary Kay Cab is going to join us on the show.
14:19All right, coming up in five minutes, I saw Jason's tweet, which by the way, we'll talk
14:23about, we'll talk to Jason Lloyd at 9.01 this morning.
14:28We got to address the elephant in the room.
14:30Or in this case, the statue in progressive field.
14:34Ken Carman, Anthony Lima, live on the fan.
