Delhi Police requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to close entry and exit at six key metro stations from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM citing security and public order concerns. The affected stations include Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, Janpath, and Barakhamba Road. The closures coincide with an opposition march called by the INDIA alliance heading towards the Supreme Court, alongside planned demonstrations near Parliament Street Police Station. The Chief Justice Secretariat clarified that a meeting cannot be granted on the matter as it falls outside their jurisdiction. The shutdown follows earlier restrictions and protests against the Chief Election Commissioner, with Section 163 imposed across New Delhi district.

00:00Six key metro stations shut in Delhi.
00:03These six metro stations are shut, citing security reasons ahead of the opposition march.
00:08These include Patel Chowk, Janpat, Rajiv Chowk, which have been shut.
00:12Mundi House and Central Secretariat metro stations are also shut.
00:16In fact, Barakamba Road metro station is also shut.
00:20Amid India Block marched to the Supreme Court call in Delhi.
00:24Six metro stations will remain shut till 4 p.m. today.
00:28So due to security reasons, the entry and exit at the following metro stations will remain closed from 6 a
00:34.m. till 4 p.m. today.
00:36And we've already listed these metro stations.
00:40These include the Barakamba Road metro station, Patel Chowk, Janpat, Rajiv Chowk, Mundi House and the Central Secretariat.
00:47So these are the six key metro stations that will remain shut in view of the opposition march.
00:51Remember, this comes despite the Supreme Court in its directive saying that there cannot be blanket prohibitions.
00:57In fact, 45 metro stations were shut on Saturday in view of the CJP protests over which questions were being
01:03raised.
01:04The Supreme Court also heard the petition yesterday.
01:07It was a special hearing on a Sunday.
01:10But despite that now, what we're learning is that six key metro stations will also remain shut today in view
01:15of the opposition march.
01:16My colleague Anshul Singh is now joining us with more details on this.
01:20Anshul, a very good morning to you.
01:21Anshul, despite the Supreme Court clearly stating that there cannot be blanket prohibitions and inconvenience cannot be caused to the
01:28residents of the national capital.
01:29We're learning that six metro stations will once again be shut today in view of the opposition's march.
01:38Very good morning to you Anshul Singh and to all our viewers.
01:40So yes, the big news that is coming in that the Delhi Police has gone ahead and requested the DMRC
01:46to shut down six key metro stations.
01:49Now remember, the Supreme Court had yesterday said that metro stations and restrictions on movement can only happen citing law
01:56and order, keeping in mind public order.
01:58And that is one of the reasons why the Delhi Police says that they have gone ahead and requested DMRC
02:03to shut down these six key metro stations.
02:06Because today, Saurabh Das and Abhijee Dipke have given a call in which they have gone ahead and said that
02:11they will go towards the Parliament Street Police Station and in fact ask the Delhi Police for a permission to
02:17offer sit in Dharna at Jantar Mantar.
02:19And if the permission is not granted in a time period of 24 hours, then they would start the agitation
02:25again.
02:25So yet again, it is expected that a crowd could accompany them towards the Parliament Street Police Station.
02:30And yet again, there could be unruliness that could happen on these streets.
02:34That is what the Delhi Police fears and that is the reason why the six key metro stations in and
02:39around Parliament Street have been shut down.
02:42Be it the Patel Chog metro station, Mandi House, Barak Hamba or for that matter Rajiv Chog.
02:47But since today is a working day, it is going to be very, very difficult for daily commuters to actually
02:54travel through metro, use public transport.
02:56Because Rajiv Chog is one of the biggest metro stations of Delhi and shutting down Rajiv Chog for entry and
03:02exit means that the daily commuters would have to face a lot of issues.
03:07Also, the metro stations in and around Rajiv Chog are also shut.
03:11So the commuters are definitely going to face a lot of issues as they travel towards New Delhi today.
03:16Apart from that, Delhi Police is also gearing up for the protests that has been called from the side of
03:22the India Alliance where they have gone ahead and said that they will try to march towards the Supreme Court
03:26and meet with the Chief Justice of India.
03:28On one hand, where the Chief Justice Secretariat has clarified that they won't be able to meet on this particular
03:33issue as it is not in their jurisdiction at this point.
03:38So, yet again, there could be drama that could happen on the streets of Delhi and definitely a very, very
03:43long day for the Delhi Police as two big protests, two massive gatherings are expected to happen in New Delhi,
03:50specifically at a time when Section 163 have been imposed all across the New Delhi District.
03:55Alright, Anshu, do stay with us.
03:57So, six metro stations, key metro stations will remain shut today in view of the opposition's march to the Supreme
04:03Court today.
04:03These include the Patel Chalk metro station, Barakamba metro station, also Rajiv Chalk, that is a very crucial metro station,
04:12that will also be shut.
04:13Central Secretariat will also be shut.
04:15Mundi House will also be shut today.
04:21Let's now take a look at the timeline.
04:23The opposition has been staging multiple protests against the CEC.
04:27Let's take a look at all those protests and marches.
04:30So, on October 6th, there was a mega opposition march to the Election Commission's office.
04:35It started from the Parliament and it was supposed to end at the Election Commission's office, but there was no
04:41permission that was granted.
04:42The access was blocked and then the opposition MPs were eventually detained.
04:47This was also the day when Rahul Gandhi had forcibly entered the Akashwani Bhawan, where after six to eight hours
04:52of protesting, he and Priyanka Gandhi Badra were detained.
04:55Then comes the next day, October 7th, when the opposition MPs met over lunch at Connaught Place and then they
05:03boarded buses.
05:04They started moving towards Jantar Mantar, where they were supposed to stage protests.
05:08But again, they were not allowed to go to Jantar Mantar.
05:11The access was blocked and after which the opposition MPs got off the buses and they were then detained.
05:18Then comes October 8th, again, there was a meeting, lunch meeting that was called by the Congress Chief Malikarjan Karge.
05:27The opposition MPs gathered at Connaught Place and then they started moving towards Rajghat.
05:32But this day was different.
05:34They were allowed to go to Rajghat and the access was not blocked, unlike the previous days.
05:40And there they staged peaceful stir.
05:43They arrived at Rajghat and for half an hour or so, they staged a peaceful protest against the Chief Election
05:50Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.
05:51And there were no detentions that took place on this day.
05:54On October 9th, which was on Friday, the opposition MPs marched to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
06:00They had sought a meeting with the president.
06:02The opposition delegation met with the president.
06:04They also submitted a memorandum against the Chief Election Commissioner.
06:08Then comes October 12th, which is today.
06:11Now, today there is another march that is slated from the Barakamba Road and Connaught Place Junction to the Supreme
06:18Court.
06:18So, the opposition MPs will be marching towards the Supreme Court.
06:21They wanted to meet the CGI, but their request has been rejected.
06:25And now the opposition will just be marching to the Supreme Court.
