- Welcome to the first session of our foundational course in Biblical Textual Criticism. In this lecture, we establish the objective framework, empirical methodology, and scientific nature of lower criticism.
Because the original autographs written by the Apostles have not survived, scholars must microscopically evaluate thousands of surviving handwritten witnesses—including papyri fragments, uncial codices, and minuscules. Join us as we examine how textual critics use a combination of external data, internal criteria, and contextual linguistics to isolate scribal errors and reconstruct the pristine historical text of the New Testament with maximum academic integrity.
