Jayden Daniels is under a lot of fire for his role in the Commanders vs Giants outcome and while some of it is justified, fans and media pundits putting majority of the blame on the star Quarterback might be missing the bigger picture. Kevin Sheehan breaks down why placing majority of the blame on Jayden Daniels for the Commanders' tie vs Giants makes no sense with all of the other factors that led to the result.

00:00I don't know how anybody comes to the conclusion that this is all or mostly on Jaden Daniels.
00:07It is certainly on him from the perspective of he had a chance to look over at Quinn and Blau
00:15and say, you guys are dummies. I'll take care of this. And I'll save you from what would be an
00:22all-time embarrassing moment for both of you. I'll take care of this. We're going to get up
00:27and we're going to spike it with 12 seconds to go get the kicker ready. He could have done that.
00:32It's disappointing and it's concerning that he didn't know enough to do that. And in many ways,
00:41it's not even about whether or not he was told that he had a timeout left. He should want to
00:48know.
00:49This is something a quarterback in the final two minutes, in a final drive situation, in overtime,
00:57in a tie game. That's the first thing he should ask as he takes the field after the fumble by
01:04Scadaboo. How many timeouts do we have? Where are we trying to get to? And then when we get down
01:11there,
01:11which hash? Middle, right, or left hash? And where are we running the clock down to?
01:18That's a real field general. That's a real situational awareness quarterback. So I want
01:26to take him off the hook if he didn't know that they didn't have any timeouts. But the only way
01:31I
01:31actually can take him off the hook is if somebody said to him, we have one timeout left. And he
01:39said,
01:39are you sure? Yes. Don't look at the scoreboard. We have one timeout left. So on this play,
01:45if Senate's not open, just get down and we'll call the final timeout. And certainly the reaction
01:52from 10 of the 11 players, not named Josh Connerly Jr., certainly would appear as if for some reason,
01:59they thought they had a timeout left. And the people who have said, well, why didn't Jaden get up
02:04and call a timeout if he thought he had a timeout left? Because he wasn't going to call a timeout
02:09with eight seconds left. That's when the play ended. Look, I don't, I don't think, I think he
02:14knew, or maybe he blanked, whatever. But I mean, you guys have watched football before. That's the,
02:21you know, shot of the coach standing next to the referees. The clock goes five, four, three, timeout.
02:27Players usually don't call timeouts. It's usually the coach in that situation.
02:32Um, I, you know, yeah, Jaden could have erased it. You know who else could have erased it?
02:40Quinn, by not calling the play. Blau, by not calling the play he called. Both Quinn and Blau,
02:46when they saw that the team was still in the huddle with 25 seconds left. At that point,
02:51they had to know with the long count and the pre-snap motion that they were in, you know,
02:58as Colonel Jessup would say, grave danger. Is there any other kind?
03:03Uh, yeah. How they didn't at that point kill it is beyond me. You know, I've heard some of the
03:11stuff that maybe you guys have heard. I don't know. Heard some of the stuff about the communication
03:16had gone out. I'm not buying that personally, because if the communication went out, they would
03:24have told us that. Why wouldn't they have said we did have a problem with the communication? Why didn't
03:29we see Jaden running over to get the play? Why? There's some stuff that's been floated out there.
03:37Okay. I don't know that I'll buy it, but it doesn't matter anyway, because grandpa Quinn in the
03:45recliner fell asleep with the cigarette in his hand by calling a play to begin with. It was a totally
03:53controllable situation. All right. Did I say, are we ready to move on? I guess we're not ready to
03:59move on. I'm ready to move on. You know, I really, really want the redemption story the rest of the
04:06way. There is a level of feeling this week that some empathy, some compassion, you know, people
04:17have had a majorly embarrassing situations and they've come back from those. And I do think that
04:25Quinn and, and Jaden, for sure. I don't know Blau, you know, and I don't think he's nearly visibly
04:33on the same level right now, because most people don't know who he is. And I'm talking about the
04:38national people who are, you know, skewering and criticizing and, you know, clowning the coach and
04:45the quarterback. Um, Jaden's been already been through this once this year, you know, not of his
04:51doing, of course, with the Jersey number at LSU. Uh, but he got clowned and he got memed for about
04:58a
04:58week and a half off of that. And here it goes again. So I believe in these guys to turn
05:06it around.
05:06What I am a bit worried about to some level is what does the rest of the team think?
05:15You know, I do believe that it's a team that is professional, that believes mostly in its head
05:24coach and it's in its quarterback, but it's hard after something takes over the way this does
05:34for several days in a row. And it's about your team. And it's about your head coach and your
05:40quarterback. And it's everywhere, everywhere you turn. It's a conversation that people have been
05:47consumed with. And I do wonder do the men in that locker room and even in that building,
05:55do they have second thoughts about a guy they've believed in, in Dan Quinn, a guy that they have
06:02followed a guy that they came here to play for in many cases, you know, the coach, the OC, the
06:09quarterback, they made a colossal, almost unforgivable, inexcusable mistake that is comedy.
06:20I mean, it's so bad that you have to question, my God, are they ever going to put us in
06:28this
06:28position again? Are we doomed because we've got, you know, a simpleton making the decisions?
06:36You know, we're going to find out Monday night and it's not necessarily going to be based on the
06:43final score. It's going to be based on how they play. How do they respond to this week? You know,
06:51do they still buy in to Quinn for whatever you guys think of Quinn? They like Quinn. Quinn relates
06:58to that environment and has throughout his life. It doesn't mean that he's a great coach.
07:07It does mean he's a great guy and he is a leader of men and he understands the kind of
07:14environment
07:14that's conducive to winning and building that. I do, I do believe that about him, but when some,
07:23we don't, this is unprecedented territory, man, this is territory in which we've never seen such
07:30a blunder go so national, be so embarrassing only to be trumped by how incompetent it was.
07:39And then to see how the men involved in the men that follow the men that made the mistakes,
07:45how they handle it. I'm rooting for the redemption story of the year. This could be literally the
07:52sports redemption story of the year. If they go out and they win eight or nine of their final 12
07:58and they're getting ready for a playoff game in January in Landover and the whole pregame stuff
08:04is about how they turned it around after October 11th, 2026.
08:11It's easy to root for that when you're a fan of the team. It's also easy to root for that.
08:17I think
08:17if you're a compassionate person and sports fan, go skins, beat the Niners 49ers on Monday night seems
08:27out there in terms of the possibility of that, but man, that would immediately, immediately shift focus
08:35away from this if they could bounce back with a shocking Monday night upset win.
