00:00We're talking about this NFC East being terrible.
00:03Hasn't had a win in the last two weeks.
00:06That's crazy.
00:07The Commanders could change that tonight.
00:10What are the keys to the Commanders getting a win?
00:15Which would vault them into second place in the division
00:18if they can pull off the upset against San Francisco.
00:22Well, number one, defensively, they've got to,
00:25and I've said it a number of times,
00:26they've got to stop George Kittle.
00:27They can't let George Kittle control it.
00:31You know, who knows if Mike Evans is going to play.
00:34If Mike Evans plays, that's just another threat
00:36that they've got to factor in.
00:37But defensively, they've just been so bad against tight ends,
00:41they've got to figure a way to rein George Kittle in.
00:44Don't let George Kittle get a ton of targets.
00:47Don't let George Kittle get open in the middle of the field,
00:49especially in the red zone.
00:51They've got to make sure, if the Niners are going to beat you,
00:56make sure it's McCaffrey, or if it's one of these receivers.
00:59Don't let the tight end get you.
01:00And they've got to get to Purdy somehow.
01:03To me, that's a big thing.
01:041-800-636-1067.
01:06I want to hear from you.
01:06I think the pass rush has been somewhat disappointing.
01:11Yeah, I agree.
01:12I expect a little more.
01:13You pay O.A.
01:14You give them all that money.
01:17Chase on, Armstrong, all these guys that they have,
01:21they're just not doing it enough consistently.
01:24There have been plays here or there,
01:25but not consistently pressuring opposing quarterbacks.
01:29And it is scary that if Evans plays,
01:33it's a very similar formula to what the Giants had.
01:36The Giants basically beat you with neighbors and likely.
01:38Yep.
01:40They didn't have some great running game.
01:42I think Evans is going to play.
01:43And then the scary part is they've got Evans and Kittle,
01:47and then they've got McCaffrey.
01:48Yeah.
01:49They've got so many ways that they can beat you offensively.
01:52And if Evans can't go, well, then Kittle and CMC play bigger roles.
01:57And a guy like Kalen Black, their rookie running back,
02:00he'll have an expanded role too.
02:02He's a pretty talented guy.
02:03One thing that's kind of scary is part of the reason why they're 5-0
02:07is they're converting basically 52% on third down,
02:11which is first in the NFL.
02:13Now, the good news is they're trailing off a little bit in the last few weeks.
02:18They were at 58% in Week 1.
02:21They were at 71% in Week 2.
02:23They were converting third downs at 62% in Week 3.
02:27The last two weeks, though, have been under 50%.
02:30Only 46% against the Broncos and just 33%.
02:34Now, it's a great Seahawks defense.
02:36This is not the Seahawks defense that they're facing.
02:39But that's going to be a key down, obviously, for Washington.
02:44Football coverage on the fan presented by Xfinity.
02:48Score the most reliable Wi-Fi.
02:50One price, five years guaranteed.
02:51Xfinity, imagine that.
02:531-800-636-1067.
02:55Let's go to the phones, see what people think.
02:56All right.
02:57Division is there for the taking.
02:59Can the commanders get a win tonight?
03:00By the way, the total record for the Niners' opponents, and they are 5-0, is 11-18.
03:09Well, they're facing a 1-3-1 team today.
03:11Yeah, I'm just saying.
03:12And they pounded the Rams in Week 1, but the Rams clearly weren't ready to play.
03:16The Seahawks win was huge, but those other three wins aren't that impressive.
03:20They haven't beaten Buffalo or Kansas City.
03:22In his last two, Jaden has rushed for 69 and 103 yards rushing.
03:27He needs to be somewhere in that range for them to have a chance tonight.
03:31Correct.
03:31He can't rush for, like, 15 or 20 yards, and the commanders are going to win the game.
03:35Let's go to Joe in Manassas.
03:37Joe, what's up?
03:38You're on with the junkies.
03:39Hey, what's up, junks?
03:40Love the show, as always.
03:41I agree.
03:42The division's wide open.
03:45I think J.J. McCarthy looked pretty good, man.
03:48Honestly, I'll give the nod to the Giants just coming in the way he did and moved the offense.
03:53Like, he looked really good yesterday.
03:55I know he's not that great, but he's a big fan.
03:57Definitely an upgrade over Jameis, man.
03:59And I think they got a little bit of a lead in the division.
04:02I don't disagree with that, to be honest with you.
04:05I mean, he's looked good at times before.
04:08I think he's capable.
04:09Over the course of a season, he just...
04:12That's true.
04:13I think it depends.
04:14It might be a better fit.
04:15I mean, did he also throw a pick on his first attempt?
04:18He did.
04:18He did, but then he settled in.
04:20I look at it this way.
04:21He's turnover prone.
04:22They wanted him to win the job in Minnesota.
04:25Because they drafted him.
04:26Sure.
04:27They lost faith.
04:28They bring in Kyler Murray.
04:29And he also got beat out by Carson Wentz.
04:31I'm sorry.
04:32I don't have much faith in that.
04:34Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz beat you out.
04:37Yeah.
04:38And you know what?
04:38You would have said the same about Sam Darnold.
04:40Their defense played like ass yesterday.
04:42It really did.
04:45I mean, they played so much better defensively in the second half against Washington because
04:49they were coming after J.D.
04:51But, I mean, their defense was not good yesterday.
04:53When you look at pressures, do you know who has the most pressures on Washington?
05:01Klayvon Chason.
05:02You're right.
05:0317 pressures.
05:05You know who's got second most?
05:07The guy that I was kind of trashing last week, but we mentioned this number.
05:11Deron Payne.
05:13Always third on the team right now with 13 pressures.
05:17And then a distant fourth, but you know good, he's a rookie, is Sonny Stiles with six.
05:23Yeah.
05:24Well, he's a linebacker.
05:26He's got the same as Frankie Lubu.
05:28Yeah, it's got to come from your D-line for sure.
05:30All right.
05:30What are the keys to the game tonight?
05:33Let's go to play the music, Kicks.
05:34Let's go to Tyler.
05:36Tyler, what's up, man?
05:37You're all with the junkies.
05:38Tyler, what's going on, guys?
05:39Hey, man.
05:42Go ahead.
05:43My case is the division is wide open, but one of these teams has to be.
05:48There is no identity in the NFC East.
05:51Everyone's playing soft.
05:52Everyone's playing scared.
05:53Everyone's playing the blame game.
05:56Somebody has to step up in one of these locker rooms and say, hey, we are those dudes.
06:01You need some better leadership with the commanders.
06:04Stephon Diggs has been around.
06:05Frankie Lubu.
06:06Somebody has to take ownership of the locker room.
06:10Regardless, Dan Quinn is what he is, man.
06:12He sucks.
06:14Let's be honest.
06:15He's done after this year.
06:17But somebody in one of these locker rooms has to step up, man up, and play some football
06:21because all these teams look lost.
06:23I mean, I think that's semi-overrated.
06:26I mean, they were talking during the broadcast of the Packers-Cowboys last night that Quinn
06:30and Williams, their defensive lineman, called a players-only meeting.
06:33Did it look like it did any good?
06:34I mean, they were getting pushed around by the Packers all night, and the offense looked
06:39listless.
06:40Right now, the NFC East is the only team that every team has a negative point differential.
06:44Right.
06:45Yeah, it's been so bad.
06:46Every team in the division.
06:47Look, there's the main reason.
06:48Hey, it gives you hope.
06:48It gives you hope as a commander's fan.
06:50The only problem is the commanders have the worst point differential of the bunch.
06:54Yeah, that's a problem.
06:55That's an issue.
06:56The main reason is injuries.
06:58It's the number one reason why the division is so bad right now.
07:01All right, let's go to Mark in Largo.
07:04Mark, what are the keys to the game tonight?
07:07The keys to the game tonight is very simple.
07:10I want Sonny Stiles to mirror the hell out of George Kittle.
07:13Now, George Kittle is still going to get his butt, get his catches.
07:16You got to do what you got to do.
07:17But I want the rest of the six to put the fear of pain in Brock Purdy.
07:23Brock Purdy needs to feel pain tonight.
07:24I want him, when he's looking over, looking like a deer in the headlights, when he's trying
07:28to look over to Mike Evans, put the fear of pain in him.
07:31And here's the other thing.
07:33This is the third home game for Jaden Daniels.
07:35He's got two home stadiums.
07:38Northwest Field, Soap Bot Stadium, as we saw last year, and Santa Clara.
07:43Remember, everybody from San Bernardino is driving down there tonight for this guy.
07:49You will hear tonight, Jason Bishop, that everybody is cheering for this kid when he's running all
07:55over San Francisco.
07:56This is a bad matchup.
07:58I doubt it.
07:59I don't think it's going to be overwhelming.
08:01It's a bad matchup for the 49ers because they hadn't faced an athletic quarterback since
08:05Lamar Jackson three years ago.
08:07So, bottom line, bad matchup for the 49ers.
08:11Hey, I love you, brother.
08:13Especially if the match is bad.
08:14All right.
08:15So, hold on.
08:15Okay, Mark hung up.
08:17So, is Mark picking Washington tonight?
08:19Sounds like it.
08:19He's very optimistic.
08:20There's not going to be a ton of Jaden fans there.
08:22I mean, that's ridiculous.
08:23I mean, there's some supporters there, I'm sure.
08:24But it's going to be overwhelming.
08:25You're not going to hear them.
08:26Niners fans.
08:27You're not going to hear them.
08:27Yeah.
08:28I think you're going to hear Niners fans.
08:29I think you're probably going to hear Niners fans overwhelmingly.
08:32Let's say Evans plays and Amos plays.
08:36That's a tough matchup.
08:39That's a tough matchup.
08:39When you first come back from injury and you haven't played in a long-ass time.
08:43I mean, I guess a Hall of Famer.
08:44That's a big ask.
08:44He's limited because he's dealing with a rash of injuries.
08:48Yeah.
08:48But, man, that is a tough assignment.
08:50That's a tough assignment.
08:52Hey, go cover Mike Evans right off the injured list.
08:54That's tough.
08:55Again, if they can get him and Kross back, I do like them a lot more if they have Amos
09:04and Kross.
09:05I think Kross is a big-time contributor.
09:07And not having him has hurt a lot.
09:11Washington is one of seven teams to never win a game at Levi's Stadium since it opened in 2014.
09:18Hmm.
09:18Well, they can't have played that many games.
09:20No, but we played a couple.
09:21Yeah, I mean, it's not like they play there every season.
09:24Lifetime, we have a terrible record.
09:26I think they've won 10 more against us in like 30-some matchups.
09:29And I think we've won three of our last 10 against San Francisco.
09:35We're typically on the wrong side of it.
09:37You know, I think...
09:38And Mark from Largo, they played a mobile quarterback.
09:44And now, that's not a good team, but Malik Willis is a mobile quarterback.
09:47Yes.
09:47And they held him to two carries for six yards.
09:49You think he researched the last three years they haven't played a mobile quarterback since Samar Jackson?
09:54He might have.
09:55He seems to have a lot of time on his hands.
09:57He calls us and Team 980 all the time.
10:00So, I'm going to guess he might have.
10:02Right.
10:02I doubt it.
10:03I'll bet against it.
10:04You know, every game has kind of been lately a referendum on sort of DQ, what the defense is doing.
10:12I think if he doesn't have a big game tonight, we're going to really start to keep mentioning Owey's name.
10:19Because as JP mentioned, he's the guy we gave $100 million to.
10:22He's the guy that we're expecting.
10:24He's got to be better than two sacks through six games.
10:30Better than 13 pressures overall.
10:33Three quarterback hits.
10:34He needs more.
10:35We need more from him.
10:36He should be a double-digit sack guy at the end of the season.
10:39And he's not pacing on that right now.
10:42And to be fair, when we signed him, I remember Valdez saying he was kind of like an all-or
10:48-nothing kind of guy.
10:49Like, there would be long stretches where he didn't do much, and then he would have good stretches.
10:52Well, last year, his first five games of the season, he played with the Ravens before being traded.
10:55He had zippy sacks.
10:57Yeah.
10:57Right.
10:58I know a lot of people like to say, well, sacks is overrated.
11:01Well, how about pressures?
11:01You need to look at pressures.
11:02I need to look at other things.
11:03But sorry.
11:05If you're generating no sacks and that's your number one job, I'm not loving you.
11:10We need more.
11:11I mean, he seemed to flash in the preseason a little bit.
11:13At least in practices, everybody was raving about him.
11:16But we just need a lot more from him.
11:18Now, we'll say when Medrano had that pick six, that was forced off of away pressure.
11:24Oh, yeah.
11:24He's made some plays.
11:26You just need more.
11:27Let's go to Dennis in Reston.
11:31Dennis, what's up?
11:32What are the keys for tonight?
11:34Play the music, Kakes.
11:34Come on.
11:35Just get a big blister on your finger.
11:37Oh, wrong one.
11:38Here's the keys.
11:39Yeah, here's the keys.
11:40I agree with the last caller.
11:42We need to put that quarterback on his rear end tonight, and he does need to have a fear
11:46of God on our defense.
11:47We really need to step up this defense.
11:50We need to stop playing like a bunch of kids and get serious and play some damn football.
11:55Okay?
11:56If we stop making the stupid mistakes on offense, the procedural mistakes, and we play football,
12:01we can get past these guys.
12:03And the rest of this division sucks, and we can do good.
12:05But we need to pull our heads out of our fourth point of contact.
12:09Thank you very much, guys.
12:10Okay?
12:10Okay, Dennis.
12:11Thank you, Dennis.
12:11Dennis gets fired up.
12:13He does.
12:13He has high blood pressure, for sure.
12:15By the way, Purdy sacked three times through five games.
12:18So good luck getting to him.
12:19Good luck disrupting him.
12:22And been sacked.
12:22He's only thrown two picks.
12:24I mean, he just plays in such a rhythm.
12:25He's a master of that Shanahan offense.
12:27Yeah.
12:28If they're able to sack him more than once tonight, that's a huge factor for them.
12:32If they can get to him, yeah.
12:33Yeah.
12:34If they get multiple sacks against Purdy tonight.
12:36And they also have to just protect Jaden.
12:38Maybe Jaden has some time to throw it.
12:39But, and he can find it, especially if they get Diggs back.
12:43You know, I think they can move the ball.
12:45Can't play way off the receivers.
12:47You got to challenge these guys.
12:49You know, that's a problem.
12:51You know, especially in the second half.
12:54The problem with that, especially with Evans, is he's so, he's so physical and so tall and
12:59his arms are so long.
13:01I mean, he's going to win those 50-50s against almost anybody.
13:05And I would think certainly against Amos coming off a long layoff.
13:09I'd be worried about that.
13:11Let's go to Ross.
13:11You can throw against San Francisco.
13:14It's tougher to run against him.
13:16But you can throw.
13:16I mean, when Jacoby Brissett played him this year, they scored 30.
13:21They had, I think Arizona receivers had 38 catches.
13:27Let's go to Rob.
13:28On 50 targets.
13:29Yeah, that's a lot.
13:30Rob, what's up, man?
13:31You're all of the junkies.
13:32What are the keys tonight?
13:34Hey, what's up, guys?
13:35I think, first off, stop McCaffrey, which I think he's pretty good at overall this year
13:39with the run.
13:40And then just make Purdy uncomfortable.
13:42Just get some pressure and get some plays on defense.
13:44And just have Jaden Daniels just make some plays along with just attempt to run, but
13:48just have him just, you know, cook, make some plays.
13:51And I just want to say also, I think the whole Dan Quinn thing is a little overblown.
13:55I mean, he's had one NCAA championship year, one down year with a rack of injuries.
14:00And then this has been like, you know, five games, like a mixed bag.
14:03So I think I don't see, like, what you're really going to accomplish by letting them
14:06go, even if it's kind of bad.
14:07Yeah, I mean, you still, let's say they get blown out.
14:11Do you still give them an opportunity to right the ship, given that the next three opponents,
14:16while they'll be challenging, they are, on paper, winnable games?
14:20I would.
14:21Yes.
14:21Yeah, that and the fact that the rest of the division.
14:24So it's kind of still open, even if they have a blowout, which hopefully it's not a blowout,
14:28but yeah.
14:28Yeah, let's say they lose tonight, but let's say it's not a blowout, but it's a competitive
14:32game, then you have the Eagles who are reeling, the Rams, for whatever reason, are reeling,
14:37and the Giants, they don't even know who their quarterback is.
14:40I mean, you could, it's a homer pick, but you could say they have a chance to right the
14:46ship over the next three games.
14:47I mean, Josh, Josh Harris may not feel that way, and he might be just so pissed at losing
14:51again, but I would agree with that.
14:54But what do you really change?
14:56Getting rid of DQ when he doesn't coach the offense, he doesn't coach the defense, he's
15:00just making timeout calls, and he's the rah-rah guy.
15:05Well, let's say you fire him and you elevate Anthony Quinn.
15:08Let's just work with him.
15:09Anthony Lynn.
15:10Sorry.
15:10Anthony Lynn, who's been head coach before.
15:12Maybe.
15:13I'm not saying this is the case, but maybe he makes different decisions in certain situations.
15:18So, a couple weeks back, we're harping on, they're up 6-0 against the Colts, you've got
15:24AK in a quarterback, and all of a sudden you're going for it, you get stuff, momentum in the
15:29game changes.
15:30Maybe Anthony Lynn in that situation punts the ball.
15:32Maybe at the end of the game, you don't have the calamity that happened because Anthony Lynn
15:37is the head coach.
15:38I'm not saying that that's definitely the case, but an owner might look at the situation
15:43and say, even if they lose tonight, that hey, maybe we have a chance to get back in
15:48it with the different voice leading, with the different decision maker, who's going
15:52to maybe say to David Blau, hey, we're not running this wacky play, we're going to spike
15:58the ball.
15:59Maybe it makes a difference.
16:03What do you have to lose if you get to 1-4-1?
16:06That's the way I look at it.
16:07What do you have to lose?
16:09You're already losing the majority of your game.
16:11You already lost, as you said, 17 out of 20.
16:13It's not going to make a difference if you toss the keys to Anthony Lynn at that point
16:16when you're 1-4-1.
16:18And maybe you get lucky and go on a run.
16:20Maybe you get lucky.
16:21You don't even need much of a run.
16:22If they can get to 500 this year, 8-8-1, that might win the division.
16:28Get to 500 this year, and you probably win the NFC East.
16:32I think the only reason you fire Quinn is if the team doesn't want him there anymore.
16:37Well, they want him.
16:39I think they do.
