00:00Jason, while you were out, we were talking a lot about the NFC East.
00:03And the NFC East picture changed over the weekend because the Giants got a win.
00:08And we were actually debating yesterday if the Giants are legit favorite in the East,
00:14if you're buying the Giants.
00:16I kind of am because of the coach, but then I also look at the Commanders game
00:21where they certainly weren't impressive, could have lost that game.
00:24And then the Saints game right after that, which they did lose,
00:27and the Saints aren't very good.
00:28Just as well as they could have easily lost that game,
00:30could have very easily won that game.
00:31Yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
00:32In three games, I'm not overly impressed.
00:35The Saints aren't a good team, and they got smacked by them.
00:38And by the way, you don't have to be overly impressed.
00:40They just have to be better than the other three dregs.
00:42I agree.
00:43Yeah.
00:43And again, I don't think it's about being overly impressed.
00:45Again, I said I'm mostly impressed by their head coach.
00:49I think they have the best head coach in the division.
00:50Well, maybe now that they've switched quarterbacks, that makes them slightly better.
00:54I do think that their quarterback is roughly equivalent to Jackson Dart.
00:58He was pretty good.
00:59Very similar skill set.
01:00Maybe.
01:01He may drop back down to where he was before he lost his job in Minnesota,
01:05but he was good in Houston.
01:06He had a limited sample size there.
01:08Yeah, limited.
01:08And I do think that the hardball connection,
01:11his brother coached him in college to a very, very, very high level,
01:14to a national championship.
01:15His brother stood on the table for him and said,
01:17this guy's got it.
01:18But I just have a feeling that the hardball will know how to use him better.
01:24Yeah.
01:24Possible.
01:25Possible.
01:26But what I wanted to bring up was last night's game.
01:28Because I think a lot of people believe the team with the most potential,
01:33especially given Jalen Hurts being out for the Philadelphia Eagles the rest of the year,
01:38is the Dallas Cowboys.
01:39But the last couple weeks, they had laid an egg.
01:44Last night, you saw full potential of their offense as they put up 38 points.
01:48So C.D. Lamb has a couple touchdown receptions.
01:51Pickens has a pretty amazing touchdown reception.
01:55Great pass.
01:55Great catch in the corner of the end zone.
01:58And they got their running game going.
02:01Right.
02:01Because they haven't been able to run the football.
02:03Javante Williams goes for $1.55 in a touchdown.
02:06They ran for 204 yards as a team.
02:09And they improved to just 3-4.
02:11But that team, to me, if they're firing at all cylinders,
02:15to me has the most potential to win the NFC East.
02:18I mean, if their defense can improve.
02:20And, you know, last night when I was watching the highlights this morning,
02:25the Eagles had a one-point lead in the third quarter.
02:28Oh, yeah.
02:29And so it was tight.
02:30You know, so obviously Tanner McKee was driving them down.
02:33And they were scoring, having Barkley back certainly helped.
02:36But you're right.
02:38He looked banged up, though.
02:39No, he's not the same.
02:40He was on the field.
02:41And he'd be on the field for a play.
02:44And he'd kind of limp off the field.
02:45Yeah.
02:46I mean, the hamstring is still, he's not 100%.
02:48I mean, he basically came back because they were grasping to get back into this race.
02:52And he hurt his back last night, too.
02:55And tweaked the hamstring.
02:56So I wouldn't be surprised if he's out again.
02:58And McKee, his, like, traditional numbers, if you look at it, were okay with 23 for 35, 211 yards.
03:06His QBR was 24.1.
03:09And what I'd say is, if you're watching the game, hit a lot of passes, it would be just inaccurate.
03:14Right.
03:14Like, behind somebody.
03:16Yeah.
03:17You know, wide open receiver, he'd throw it low.
03:19Well, he's a backup.
03:20Yeah.
03:20I mean, you can't expect much.
03:21They're dead.
03:22Eagles are dead.
03:23Correct.
03:23They're dead.
03:24They had both their receivers hurt last night.
03:26And then Barkley wasn't 100%.
03:28Yeah, they're dead.
03:29Correct.
03:29So Dallas had to take advantage of that situation, which they did.
03:33Are they the best team in the NFC East?
03:36Or are they the favorite in the NFC East?
03:38I guess I would still take the Giants slightly just based on the record.
03:42But, you know, there's still 10 games left.
03:44So a lot of stuff can happen.
03:46Right.
03:47And obviously Washington has a must win on Sunday night.
03:50That is a must win.
03:52Yeah.
03:53On Sunday night against the Eagles.
03:54I mean, I didn't look at the numbers.
03:56I was sick last night trying to go to bed when the game was on.
04:00I didn't actually look at the numbers yet this morning.
04:02I just didn't buy the narrative that Dak Prescott all of a sudden sucked.
04:05You know, just because he had had a few rough games didn't look like Dak.
04:08Right.
04:09I just didn't buy that.
04:10No.
04:10I don't know if their defense will improve.
04:12I don't know.
04:13No, but the reason why people were wondering, and I think, yeah, it's an overstatement to
04:16say that Dak sucks, is just they had played, you know, the Texans, the Buccaneers,
04:23and the Packers the three weeks before.
04:25Well, in the Texans game, they scored 34 points, much like last night.
04:27But then the Bucs game and the Packers, they only put up 29 points combined.
04:32And that wasn't very Dallas Cowboys offense-like.
04:37Right.
04:37And then the defense has been an issue all season.
04:39So usually the offense could overcome maybe the bad defense if you're putting up 30 points.
04:44So he had a couple good performances.
04:4530-plus points.
04:46He's still on the whole in the prime of his career.
04:48Yeah, so last night they looked like themselves again, and I do think the running game is
04:52a big part of it for them, because they hadn't run the football effectively at all.
04:57And maybe that's the reason he wasn't playing well.
05:01You know what I mean?
05:01If they're not running the ball, there's no balance there.
05:04He talked about it last night after the game.
05:05He said, we had balance.
05:06Yeah, in the Packers game, they had 48 yards as a team rushing.
05:09Yeah.
05:1048.
05:10And then if you go to the loss against the Bucs, I think it was similar, where they really
05:15struggled to get anything going on the ground.
05:18Against Tampa, they had 50 yards.
05:20Yeah.
05:21So they didn't even have 100 yards rushing in two games?
05:25Yeah.
05:25I mean, the last three, before last night, he had 54 pass attempts, 42 and 45.
05:32Even though it's Dak Prescott, and he loves to throw, and he's got two great receivers,
05:35that's still a lot of freaking balls to throw.
05:38Right?
05:38You probably don't want to throw that many balls.
05:39So you don't want to drop back that much.
05:41So, you know, if he's in the 30 attempt range, that's probably what you want.
05:46And they had good balance last night.
05:47But you've got to take advantage of beating Philly.
05:49I mean, they've got all their guys banged up, and they've got a backup quarterback, and
05:52you've got to win that game.
05:53They're expected to sell their parts now.
05:56Sure.
05:56I think it's 15 days until the trade deadline, and EB's brought this up before.
06:01It's not like Major League Baseball, but there are teams that make moves.
06:06I wouldn't expect a flood of moves, but I do think the Eagles will trade a couple guys.
06:11I mean, one or two is usually about it.
06:14They're not going to unload five guys.
06:16No.
06:17That's not really a thing in the NFL.
06:18But I do think the Javante Williams factor was huge for the Dallas Cowboys.
06:21I didn't realize Javante had such a good year last year.
06:24I mean, 45 yards against Tampa, 41 yards against Green Bay, and then he blew up for $1.55 last
06:29night.
06:29That's why they gave them a big contract.
06:33Yeah, well, they're definitely a force.
06:34If they're in sync offensively, they're definitely a force to be reckoned with, and more proven
06:39on the whole than the Giants, for sure.
06:42And you look at their schedule, the next two games are very winnable for them.
06:46They've got the Cardinals next.
06:48Then they go to the Colts.
06:49So if they win those, they're at 5-4.
06:54Then they've got the Niners, which is going to be tough.
06:56But they still have the Titans on the schedule.
07:00I don't know.
07:01Right now, 4-2-1.
07:02That's the Giants.
07:03They are in first place.
07:04Dallas in second place at 3-4.
07:06Phillies 2-5.
07:07And the Washington Commanders at 1-4-1.
07:10Dead last.
07:11This makes you think about how brutal that tie was for Washington, because if they won the
07:16game, which they certainly should have, then it's more bunched up with the three wins with
07:24the Giants, and obviously watching them in two.
07:26So you'd have 3-3-2-2, instead of 4-3-2-1, in terms of the win column.
07:32So that was just a brutal tie for them, because they'd be smack dab in the middle of it.
07:36It just makes the Eagles game crucial.
07:38I mean, it's massive.
07:39The Eagles game's crucial, and then the head-to-head they have against the Giants in a few weeks.
07:43I just don't think you can realistically think that we're, you know,
07:46kind of in the thick of it.
07:47They have to prove it.
07:48No, you're right.
07:49You've got to win a couple to prove it.
07:50Well, obviously, if they lose Sunday night, it's over.
07:53But you can still, you know, who knows what the Giants are going to do.
07:56But can we please do this, though?
07:57If we lose, can we not talk about sitting Jaden, trading everyone, and just playing for next
08:04year?
08:05Can we please not do that?
08:06Like, in week seven or eight?
08:08Please.
08:09It's so freaking annoying.
08:10I agree we're out of it, but Jaden has to play as many games as possible.
08:14I agree.
08:14And I don't think we just need to unload everyone.
08:17That thought didn't even cross my mind.
08:19Well, will you wait?
08:20Do you think people will start actually saying bench Jaden?
08:23Well, let's say, yeah, let's just save him.
08:24Let's not get him hurt.
08:25No.
08:25Those people will come out.
08:27They've got to play him.
08:28Wait till we get in the new coordinator.
08:29I wouldn't be surprised if they traded off a couple pieces.
08:33Yeah.
08:34But like I said, I'd be shocked if they traded more than one or two.
08:37It's usually not a thing.
08:38That'd be my guess.
08:38Unload five guys.
08:39They want to recoup some of their draft picks that they traded off?
08:42I don't know how many guys people really want.
08:44Maybe Payne.
08:45Yeah, who knows?
08:46I mean, it just makes – I agree.
08:50I don't want to talk about that either.
08:51They have to beat the Eagles to keep it interesting.
08:54But the Giants also have to fall back to the pack too.
08:56What makes the Giants intriguing to me is they're a little bit more balanced, right?
09:01They're offensively and defensively.
09:03They're put together pretty well.
09:05The Cowboys are all offense, right?
09:07Not a great defense.
09:08The Giants have formidable defense.
09:11And if they can just stay away from turnovers offensively, they can hurt you.
09:16They're middle of the pack in terms of yardage.
09:18Top third.
09:20Well, if Cam can run like he did against the Texans, which he certainly wasn't before that.
09:24Oh, he looked like an absolute monster.
09:25He looked like a great – exactly.
09:27That's what they expected all year.
09:29So if they get some balance there and they take pressure off McCarthy,
09:32because you don't want McCarthy dropping back all day.
09:34No, but I like McCarthy running and creating.
09:36And he's got a legit number one receiver, which helps.
09:39Did you see the stat that was going around about Jaden Daniels
09:42that was interesting about the turnover-worthy plays?
09:45No.
09:46So Jaden Daniels, so far this season, when he's on the field, has zero interceptions.
09:49That's great.
09:52But – and Kurt Warner put out this critique about him, which wasn't just negative,
09:59but says that he needs to be a little more aggressive.
10:01And it bears out when you look at the stats.
10:02He apparently has zero turnover-worthy throws.
10:07So they actually look at throws that can be completions, but also could be turnovers.
10:14So it just points to him being very risk-averse and not taking chances.
10:19Yeah, which is what I said for the beginning.
10:21He's not wired to just be slinging it, you know.
10:24And he's got a different – like, I think Kurt Warner's awesome,
10:27and I love that critique he did.
10:28But, you know, again, Jaden's different.
10:31Jason – Jaden can kill you with his legs.
10:33Kurt was never going to kill you with his legs.
10:34Right.
10:35Kurt was all about going for the kill shot every single play.
10:38Well, Jaden's got a different skill set.
10:42He could beat you with his arm.
10:44And, in fact, you know, Nick Akerage, who does the analysis here locally,
10:50he put out all these plays where, you know,
10:52because I think it's getting to the point where the criticism of Jaden's getting too much
10:56and showing all the plays where he was excellent so far this year.
11:01I don't know.
11:02He probably should take a few more chances,
11:04but I don't think he needs to be just going for a kill shot every play
11:07the way Warner suggests.
11:09Yeah.
11:09I mean, if he's missing wide-open guys, that's one thing.
11:11But if a guy's in tight coverage, why force it when you can just tuck it and go
11:17and get eight to ten yards?
11:18It's just that you're seeing on film,
11:21and Aikman was bringing this up throughout the broadcast,
11:24you're seeing him throw checkdowns when there are guys down the field who are open.
11:27Yeah, but if you're seeing – like he did that, let's say, in the last game,
11:30they still march down.
11:31They still had a chance to win.
11:32Yeah.
11:33And Traylon Burks got the ball in his hands, you know.
11:37So, I mean, if you could march down the field with short stuff,
11:40I think he decided this is how I'm going to do it.
11:42We're just going to take short stuff, and we're going to go down there
11:45and get a chance to win in the fourth quarter.
11:47I don't know.
11:49Instead of a dicier route.
11:51I don't know that necessarily it's always right to take the deep shot.
11:56Didn't say it's always right.
11:58I'm just saying that statistically,
12:01he apparently has not taken any turnover-worthy throws at all.
12:04And it goes hand-in-hand with what you're seeing on film when you're watching the game
12:08and when you're just listening to Troy Aikman, a Hall of Fame quarterback,
12:11say there's plays downfield and he's not taking shots.
12:14Yeah, I mean, if there's guys wide open, yeah, that's on him.
12:17It's just very controversial to me because then you see Orlovsky raving about the film
12:22and others raving about the film.
12:24Orlovsky's not a Hall of Fame player, but, you know, he does analysis for a living.
12:29Guys see different things.
12:31Because, look, the Commanders just need the Giants to come back to the pack.
12:36And I think they have a bye next week to rest up some of their guys
12:41and then they come back and they have to play in Philly.
12:43So that's certainly a very winnable game.
12:45We'll see who's back for the Eagles.
12:47But they've got to come back and they've got to lose a couple
12:49and Washington's got to win a couple in a row.
12:52Well, they have an opportunity to get right against the Eagles for sure.
12:56Isn't it crazy how just seasons in every sport are just so unpredictable
13:02because when we looked at the schedule at the start of the year,
13:07you go, oh, my gosh, you know, the Eagles might lose to them twice.
13:10Now you're saying they've got a chance to get right against the Eagles.
13:14Yeah, but the Rams still look formidable and the Giants look tougher than you thought.
13:18That's what I mean.
13:19It's just unpredictable.
13:23I don't know.
13:23I just need Jaden to stack up some wins.
13:28You know, that is one thing, criticism, that is fair.
13:30He can't just keep playing and keep losing.
13:32They've got to get some dubs.
13:34That's for sure.
13:34Right, they've got to win two or three in a row.
13:36They can't lose two out of three, which is what they've been doing.
13:40I think if I had to bet, they probably would lose two out of three.
13:44If they lose to the Eagles, I would be willing to fire Dan Quinn on that.
13:48I think Dan Quinn maybe saved his job with the second half of the last game.
13:53But if they lose to this Eagles team, I'm sorry.
13:56What's the point?
13:57And Tanner McKee.
13:59Well, if you're 1-5-1 in a division which is right there for the taking,
14:04I'm sorry.
14:05What's the point?
14:06Pull the plug like the Terps did with Mike Loxley.
14:10If they lost to the Eagles, it would be a devastating loss.
14:14You could do whatever you want.
14:16You can do whatever you want to coach.
14:17Yeah, fine with me.
14:18That is an absolute must-win for the Washington Commanders.
14:21And then if they win, look, you can make an argument.
14:24They've been close in a bunch of games.
14:26That their record should be much better than 1-4-1.
14:30Whether it was the tie, whether it was the opener where they lost by two.
14:34I mean, even the Colts game, which went the other way, was close.
14:38And then they went for that fourth down, and then momentum completely shifted, right?
14:41And they had AK in the game.
14:45Yeah, I mean, they were down to their third stringer.
14:47But it's not like they're getting bludgeoned week in and week out.
14:50They certainly should have scored more points in that game, but to lose to the Colts when
14:53you have your third stringer in, then it is what it is.
14:57So it's an opportunity coming off a bye.
15:00It's an absolute must-win.
15:01But if you lose to the Eagles on Sunday night, and you're 1-5-1, you can do whatever.
15:07You can fire whoever you want.
15:08But what I was going to say is, we paint this picture where it's the NFC East, and it's
15:12terrible.
15:13Now you've got three teams ahead of you.
15:16I'll put the Eagles behind you, right?
15:19You should beat the Eagles.
15:20And the Eagles look dead.
15:21They've got a back-up quarterback the rest of the way that nobody believes in.
15:24If you just watch the game last night, it was highly inaccurate, and they've got all
15:29kinds of injuries.
15:31But now you've got the Cowboys, and again, previous two weeks looked terrible, but the
15:35Cowboys were firing all cylinders last night, and maybe they're going to figure out their
15:39defense.
15:39They added Joe Porter Jr., and maybe Caleb Downs comes into his own more.
15:47Maybe they figure out that defense.
15:48I forget.
15:48They added Mike Pettin on the defensive staff.
15:51They also might make a trade and get some more help.
15:53And you've got the Giants with J.J.
15:55Because Jerry doesn't care.
15:55Jerry will trade whoever he wants.
15:57Right.
15:57So maybe it's a tougher hill to climb.
