Delhi's air quality has slipped into the 'poor' category with the Air Quality Index hovering between 230 and 280 across several areas, prompting the invocation of GRAP Stage 1 measures across Delhi-NCR. The Commission for Air Quality Management reviewed stubble burning control measures with the Punjab and Haryana governments, urging strict enforcement and effective crop residue management. Meanwhile, the Delhi Transport Association called on the authorities to run a 15-day pilot before implementing vehicular curbs to prevent supply disruptions and assess the impact scientifically. Ground reports indicate over 150 farm fire incidents in Punjab alongside adverse meteorological conditions carrying pollutants into the capital.

00:00Delhi's pollution battle is gathering pace as the AQI climbs up.
00:04The air quality watchdog CAQM has reviewed stubble-burning control measures with Punjab and Haryana governments.
00:11The Commission for Air Quality Management has urged both states to strengthen enforcement
00:16and ensure effective crop residue management,
00:20warning that action on the ground is crucial to prevent farm fires.
00:24And after a stage one of GRAP was invoked across Delhi NCR,
00:29the Delhi Transport Association has urged the Delhi government to run a 15-day pilot
00:34before implementing vehicle curbs.
00:37The transport body wants the impact on air quality assessed scientifically,
00:42warning that restrictions could raise transportation costs and disrupt essential goods supplies.
00:49Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, meanwhile,
00:52has called for citizens to join hands in the fight against pollution.
00:56He has urged people not to take polluting vehicles onto the road,
01:01curb construction activities and not burn garbage.
01:30And under construction, the DPC, which are the most important part of the DPC,
01:36which are the most important part of the DPC,
01:38which are the most important part of the DPC.
01:39It is very difficult for Delhi people to stay clean and clean,
01:43if the people of Delhi will give us the support of the DPC.
01:48And Anshul Singh is joining me live on this story.
01:53Anshul, every single year, the moment the temperature drops,
01:57the moment October comes towards an end,
02:00we see the same problem recurring.
02:03What can you tell us about the situation on the ground right now?
02:06What's the AQI level for Delhi right now?
02:09And what measures have already kicked in?
02:12Where are the problem areas?
02:14And what are the associations now saying?
02:20Well, the situation remains very, very bad for the people of Delhi NCR.
02:24The AQI in some parts of the national capital was above the 250 mark yesterday.
02:29Today as well, the AQI is oscillating between 230 to 280 in different parts of the national capital.
02:36So the AQI is currently in the poor category and will remain so.
02:40As the IMD has predicted that the wind conditions that are
02:44that are in and around the national capital at this point in time,
02:48the pollutants will continue to come in from the northern western part of the country
02:53and will continue to settle over the national capital due to its geographical location.
02:57There are restrictions that have been imposed specifically out here in Delhi.
03:01The Grap 1 restrictions have been imposed.
03:03The implementation on the ground is also that is being done.
03:07But the effect that we could have seen in the air quality of Delhi, that is somewhere missing.
03:15Apart from that, one of the main reasons yet again is being said to be the burning farm fires
03:22that happen in Punjab, specifically in the Amritsar Tarantaran build.
03:26This year itself, till today, more than 150 cases of farm fires have been registered in Punjab
03:34which is way more than what was registered last time around or last year.
03:39So yes, that is another massive issue due to which the pollution levels out here
03:43in the national capital is increasing.
03:45The Delhi government says that they are working to control the local sources of pollutions.
03:52But at this point in time, the effect of that is something that is still not seen.
03:57The AQI continues to remain in the poor category.
04:00And over the next few days, it could very well go in the very poor category
04:05and then eventually in the hazardous category as well.
04:08Great. Thank you very much for that.
04:10Anshul Singh there bringing us the data and what is happening on the ground.
04:14Thank you very much.
