00:00What's one fundamental change you think is most urgently needed to ensure the UN remains relevant, representative, and also effective,
00:09probably, over the next 40 years?
00:11And I think one extra question for you is how excited are you to possibly appoint its first woman Secretary
00:19General?
00:20Well, I mean, I think that that second question could be the starting point, because, of course, we need a
00:28new Secretary General.
00:29And I think most UN staff and the current Secretary General has been on the record saying it should be
00:40a woman.
00:42We need, at the helm of the United Nations, a leader who will carry forward the values and the principles
00:51contained in the UN Charter and also be a very strong manager
00:57and push for the kinds of reforms that are needed to keep this organization able to address all the challenges
01:09that come so rapidly.
01:11And one of those challenges, to answer your first question, that needs to be grappled with, which this Secretary General
01:17spearheaded a framework around,
01:21is how do we, as a global community, address the opportunities and also the risks of AI?
01:31And this is something, obviously, that was not written in the UN Charter and is probably one of the biggest
01:37new challenges of our time.
01:39And so that's one that needs to be grappled with.
01:43And, you know, there are already some frameworks in place.
01:47There's an international scientific or an international AI panel that is representative of the whole world in place that is
01:58looking at the opportunities and the risks.
02:00And there are many UN organizations, particularly led by the ITU, that is looking at all of the potential for
02:10AI to contribute to the kind of transformation that we're trying to achieve
02:15and perhaps can help us to go faster and to develop quicker without as much funding as we thought that
02:26we needed.
02:26So in certain sectors, maybe AI can be a big boost for our work in many parts of the world.
