00:03Hello, join us. We go live once more to the United Nations headquarters during the 34th
00:07discussion of Cuba's resolution against the U.S. blockade, the Islamic Republic of Iran
00:14is offering statements. Let's listen.
00:16...that places itself above international law while continuing to violate it systematically
00:23and in the most serious manner. Unilateral sanctions, including so-called autonomous
00:31sanctions, are rooted in unilateralism and coercion and thus endanger multilateralism, destabilize
00:38international relations, and undermine the UN Charter and international law. As a tool
00:45of collective punishment against targeted nations, they violate fundamental human rights,
00:52just, obstruct peace, undermine the right to development, and impede the establishment
00:58of a just, peaceful, and equitable international order. Over six decades of unilateral sanctions
01:06unblocked by the U.S. against Cuba constitute flagrant coercion against a sovereign and independent
01:13state, inflicting immense hardship on its people, undermining their fundamental human rights and
01:21obstructing their development. Its intensification under the cynical pretext of promoting democracy
01:29exposes the profound contradiction between its stated objectives and its devastating human consequences.
01:39It is weaponizing democracy, not promoting it. No government is allowed to dictate the political future
01:46of a sovereign state. By any standards, such policies and practices, including economic warfare,
01:54are unlawful, immoral, and inhuman. Therefore, not only must this decade-long unlawful and inhuman embargo
02:04be lifted immediately, but the Cuban people must also receive full reparation from the imposing state
02:12state for all damages incurred. Additionally, all those responsible for perpetuating these policies
02:19must be held accountable. Mr. President, having itself endured the act of aggression and the consequences
02:28of economic coercion and blackout imposed by the U.S., the Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its unequivocal
02:36opposition to all sanctions against sovereign and independent states, including Cuba. Such sanctions
02:45harm ordinary people, especially women, children, and older persons, undermining their health, safety,
02:53and well-being, and creating serious barriers to development, which is essential to the full enjoyment
02:59of human rights. They seriously violate the human rights of an entire nation by weaponizing the human
03:08rights of that very nation. This is not defending human rights. It is blatant hypocrisy. This reminds us of
03:16so-called help that the U.S. President promised the Iranian people when he said help is on its way.
03:22A few days later,
03:24and on his order, the U.S. forces bombed a primary school in Minab, brutally killing 168 children between
03:347 and 12 years old. Mr. President, this assembly must compel the U.S. to implement the thousands of
03:44resolutions adopted with the support of overwhelming majority of the international community,
03:51rejecting the embargo against Cuba, and calling on the U.S. to end its economic, commercial, and financial
03:58embargo against Cuba. We must neither overlook nor undermine the serious legal implications of
04:06unilateral coercive measures for the international legal order, particularly in the current turbulent
04:12economic international environment. The U.N. Charter is funded on sovereign equality, international
04:19cooperation, and the development of friendly relations among nations, as enshrined in Article 1 and 2 of
04:27the Charter. The UCMs violate all these principles, as well as the principle of non-intervention.
04:35While the Charter calls for international cooperation in solving global problems and promoting friendly
04:42relations relations among nations, UCMs instead foster confrontation, deepen divisions, and undermine the
04:50foundations of peaceful coexistence. In fact, sanctions are example of economic terrorism, while blackheads
05:00enforced by armed forces constitute acts of aggression under international law. Despite their different forms and
05:09degrees of severity, these measures are shared with deeply troubling features. They undermine the sovereignty of
05:21states, inflict human suffering, and materially violate international law, consequently rendering them both unlawful and illegitimate.
05:31A policy that sacrifices the well-being of millions for political objectives cannot be reconciled
05:38with the principles of humanity, morality, or international solidarity. Mr. President,
05:45the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the government
05:49and resilient people of Cuba in their struggle against the embargo and other unjust coercive measures.
05:56We will continue to advocate for the elimination of unilateral coercive measures and urge this Assembly to
06:04intensify its efforts to bring these measures, including the embargo against Cuba, to an immediate end.
06:11The time has come to end these unlawful and inhuman practices. Their continuation is not only a failure of
06:20international responsibility, but also an unmistakable manifestation of human and moral bankruptcy.
06:27I thank you, Mr. President.
06:30I thank the distinguished representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
06:35I now give the floor to the distinguished representative of Brazil.
06:51Mr. President,
06:55Brazil endorses the position of Uruguay on behalf of the G77 and China.
07:00Brazil's position in this matter is clear. During this year's general debate, President
07:05Lula condemned the economic embargo and energy blockade against Cuba as illegal and described
07:12their effects as collective punishment against 10 million people. The effects of these illegal measures
07:21are tangible. In June 2026, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
07:28reported daily power outages frequently exceeding 20 hours. It also reported that the suspension of
07:36services by shipping companies had affected shipments of food intended for humanitarian assistance,
07:44totaling more than 2,900 tons. The High Commissioner for Human Rights warned, and I quote,
07:51"...children are dying because doctors do not have access to medical supplies and essential medicines,"
07:58end of quotation, and called for the immediate lifting of the sanctions. These findings concern hospital
08:05services, food distribution, and access to water. They cannot be reduced to an exchange of political accusations.
08:15United Nations assessments show that there are restrictions imposed by private companies that go
08:22beyond legal requirements, delaying procurement and disrupting humanitarian supply chains. In practice,
08:30authorization to deliver assistance does not necessarily mean that such assistance reaches those who need it.
08:37in practice. Mr. President, the resolution before us addresses the extraterritorial effects of national
08:44legislation on the sovereignty of third states and on the legitimate interests of their citizens
08:51and companies in light of the principles of sovereign equality, non-intervention, and freedom of trade and
08:57navigation. Brazil has also publicly opposed the inclusion of Cuba on the United States list of state sponsors of terrorism.
09:07Brazil will vote in favor of this resolution. The objective that Brazil has consistently defended remains
09:13the same to bring an end to the embargo and to ensure that international relations are based on dialogue
09:20and respect for the Charter of the United Nations. This must prevail. Thank you very much.
09:28I thank the distinguished representative of Brazil. I now give the floor to the distinguished representative of Algeria.
09:37I thank you very much. Thank you very much.
09:57Algeria aligns itself with the statement delivered
10:01on behalf of the African group. The non-aligned... We were listening at this hour to statements from
10:08two representatives of the international community. The first one was from the Republic, the Islamic Republic
10:14of Iran, and also from the Federal Republic of Brazil. Both of them were condemning the consequences
10:19and the impact of the U.S. economic blockade on Cuba that has been in place for over 60 decades.
10:27Year after year,
10:28they said both of them coincided. The international community condemned, as a whole, the consequences that is
10:34having the humanitarian consequences that is having on the Cuban population. Now, in 2026, with a
10:40strengthened energy blockade, fuel blockade that is hampering, that is weaponizing all of the strategic
10:46sectors of the economy, that is having also diet consequences on the common people, that is the most
10:52vulnerable ones included, with children, elderly people suffering the lack of medicines, the shortage of
10:58also access to healthcare centers because of the energy blackouts, the massive blackouts that are
11:07happening nationwide. Now, we are going to continue with our information in our broadcast, in our news
11:13brief from the south. We are going to the issues that also are included in the analysis of the United
11:24Nations General Assembly discussions that resume on Tuesday's annual review of a resolution calling
11:31for an end to the U.S. blockade against Cuba. This is the 34th time that the United Nations highest
11:38deliberative body will debate on the resolution and is debating already on the resolution based on the
11:45report presented by Cuba on the need to end desuffocating policy, which following the arrival of the
11:52Donald Trump administration in January 2025 has intensified to unprecedented levels. Added to this
12:00scenario is an unprecedented offensive by the State Department, the U.S. permanent mission to the
12:05United Nations and U.S. embassies around the world to try to sway member states into voting against the
12:11resolution. Last year, the resolution received 165 votes in favour, 7 against and 12 abstentions. This year,
12:19on the first day of debate, more than 30 speakers will address the Assembly with a vote taking place on
12:27Wednesday the 28th.
12:36And Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez interrupted the speech by U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz in defence of
12:43the President's accusations during the plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly. During his remarks,
12:50Waltz justified the U.S. blockade on the island addressing the Cuban delegation alleging that the
12:55severe economic crisis and energy shortages facing the island are due to government mismanagement and
13:02not to Washington's aggressive foreign policy against the island. After this speech, the Cuban
13:07representative Bruno Rodriguez walked directly toward the presidential days, demanding that the President
13:14of the General Assembly, Caliur Ramán, restore order and respect in the chamber and, in turn,
13:20demanded that the U.S. diplomat stop lying blatantly, maintain a dignified attitude and refrain from attacking
13:27the Cuban people. In other informations, the Liberal Party, the political party that nominated candidate
13:42Flavio Bolsonaro acknowledged the election results and the victory of Luis Inácio Lula da Silva in the
13:47Brazilian presidential election. In a statement signed by its President, Valdemar Costaneto, the party accepted
13:54the announcement issued by the Superior Electoral Court, although it maintained that questions regarding
13:59the process must be clarified. The party's decision follows this electoral scenario. During the first
14:05round on October 4, Flavio Bolsonaro had taken the lead with a two percentage point advantage over Lula da
14:11Silva, but in the runoff, the President managed to reverse the trend and secure victory by a margin of more
14:18than 4 million votes.
14:29And the Brazilian government has extended economic fuel subsidies on diesel for 30 days to shield local
14:35consumers from global energy market volatility. President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva's administration
14:42authorized the renewal of the subsidy to offset surging international crude prices driven by
14:48ongoing military conflicts in West Asia. The planning ministry projected a financial commitment
14:53equivalent to nearly two billion dollars over the next month, funded through extraordinary oil royalties.
15:01The federal intervention aims to protect supply chains, stabilize cargo transport costs and prevent
15:08inflationary pressures on essential goods, reinforcing Brazil's sovereign economic buffers amidst global energy supply
15:16disruptions.
15:25Also in Peru, the Prosecutor's Office dismissed the investigation against 52 people for forced
15:31sterilizations committed in the regime of dictator Alberto Fujimori. The judicial authority declared the
15:37criminal proceedings closed despite recognizing evidence of forced sterilizations and crimes against
15:43humanity. The initiative promoted by Fujimori supporters states that acts the curing before July 1st 2002
15:50cannot be classified as crimes against humanity, a position that has been challenged by human rights organizations.
15:57The case involves more than 4,000 victims who suffered serious injuries and five women who died as a result
16:03of the procedures.
16:04Between 1996 and 2000, more than 272,000 women and about 22,000 men were sterilized according to figures from
16:15the Ministry of Health
16:16collected by the Ombudsman's Office and as 2023, more than 8,000 people were listed in the register of victims
16:25of these procedures.
16:26The case has been closed, while Keiko Fujimori, the dictator's daughter, serves as president of the republic,
16:33which has fueled the debate over judicial independence and the political impact as well of this decision.
16:48Now we have a short break coming up to the other way because we'll be right back.
17:12Welcome back to From the South. World leaders and senior officials from major energy producing nations
17:18convene in Moscow for the 8th Gas Exporting Countries Forum to discuss global energy sovereignty.
17:25On the sidelines, strategic bilateral talks focused on market stability
17:29and deepening South-South trade alliances outside Western financial dominance.
17:34Representing 70% of global natural gas reserves, member states marked 25 years of cooperation
17:41while finalizing the Moscow declaration to secure reliable global supply chains.
17:46The historic gathering reinforces sovereign control over natural resources and solidifies
17:52closer cooperation among leading gas producers across Russia and Africa and also the Middle East.
18:02Russia is a key player in the global gas market. We rank first in the world in terms of natural
18:07gas reserves
18:08and second in terms of production. We have created a unique system,
18:12system, a production complex that enables the diversification of gas supplies and the development of gas
18:18processing and gas chemicals. With this powerful resource, we utilize our industrial base to boost the
18:25national economy and at the same time act as a responsible and reliable gas supplier abroad. A predictable partner.
18:35In the event, Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, stated that global demand for gas will increase by at least 30%,
18:42establishing it as a clean and reliable source of energy.
18:51By 2055, global demand for natural gas is expected to increase by more than 30%. In this context, natural gas
19:00is establishing itself as a clean, reliable, and affordable source of energy, capable of driving and consolidating industrialization, closing energy
19:11poverty gaps, and ensuring higher levels of well-being and social equity for our
19:16people.
19:30A temporary localized ceasefire has officially entered into force in the city of Alekshki in the Kherson region to facilitate
19:38an urgent international humanitarian operation. The localized session of hostilities took effect at four in the morning Moscow time.
19:46Establishing a safe window to deliver vital food, water and medical supplies to under 2,000 civilian residents remaining in
19:54the frontline town.
20:00And now we go live to the United Nations, the representative of China's suffering statements at this hour regarding the
20:06US economic blockade. Let's listen.
20:08As well as the indomitable resistance.
20:11They also document the United States' hegemonic acts and bullying which violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter
20:19and trample upon the international order and the basic norms governing international relations.
20:23For 33 consecutive years, this resolution has been adopted by an overwhelming majority, an eloquent testimony to the conscience of
20:31humanity and the power of justice.
20:33China has always stood on the right side of the common values of humanity and on the side of fairness
20:38and justice today, standing at this august podium of the UN.
20:43China once again, China once again strongly urges the United States to immediately seize its blockade and pressurization against Cuba.
20:52There is no reason whatsoever for the 64-year illegal unilateral sanctions to continue and no reason whatsoever for the
21:0034-year-long call for justice to be put aside again.
21:04The resolution necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the U.S. against Cuba should be
21:11implemented without delay.
21:14Maintaining the position outlined above, China will once again solemnly cast its vote in favor of the draft resolution submitted
21:22by Cuba under the agenda item necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the U.S.
21:28against Cuba president.
21:29There is more to 64 years and 34 years than just numbers that tell a story of historical profundity and
21:38a cautionary tale that is deeply sobering.
21:40Over the past hundred years, the world has gone through the brutalities and agonies of both hot wars and cold
21:48wars.
21:48The arc of humanity that bends towards self awakening and positive progress has led the world out of war and
21:56confrontation towards peace and cooperation.
21:58Today, multi-polarization and economic globalization are a trend that is here to stay.
22:04Humanity is so intertwined that it is impossible to separate one from the other.
22:09The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind is gaining traction and widely subscribed to by
22:14nations.
22:15The international community should continue to work for the positive and for good.
22:19Stand United support Cuba's just struggle to safeguard national dignity and sovereign equality.
22:24support the common development of all countries and advance human progress.
22:28In this vein, we wish to make a sincere appeal for the following actions.
22:33First, act now to oppose sovereign equality and oppose external interference.
22:38All countries, regardless of size, wealth or strength, are equal members of the international community.
22:43Every country is entitled to independently choose a social system and development path suited to its national context.
22:49The future and destiny of Cuba must be and can only be decided by the Cuban people themselves.
22:54No country has the right to impose sanctions its own will and its own development model on another country,
23:00much less to use military intimidation or abuse judicial means to pressure Cuba.
23:05Second, act now to let multilateralism prevail over unilateral sanctions.
23:10Unilateral sanctions not authorized by the UN Security Council have no basis in international law.
23:16Self-interest and prejudices along with house rules are not the norms or the right approach whereby countries interact with
23:23each other.
23:24The international community must pull efforts to urge the country concerned to return to the right path,
23:31respond to the consensus appeal as reflected in UN UNRWA resolutions,
23:37immediately lift all types of sanctions and secondary sanctions against Cuba,
23:41remove Cuba from the list of so-called state sponsors of terrorism,
23:46and work together to safeguard the UN-centered international system and the international order based on international law.
23:54Third, act now to strengthen solidarity and cooperation in the interest of fairness and justice.
24:00Every country should be able to stand with dignity among the nations of the world,
24:04and the people of every country have the right to subsistence and to development.
24:09It is unacceptable to use illegal means such as economic blockades to obstruct and undermine the right to subsistence
24:16and development of the people in other countries as it runs counter to international moral justice and the common values
24:23of humanity.
24:24The international community should take a clear stance,
24:26defend the right to development, promote development, cooperation and safeguard the rights and dignity of the people
24:31in the continuous process of fulfilling their aspirations for a better life.
24:36China will keep up its steadfast support for Cuba's just cause of defending national sovereignty, security and the right to
24:43development,
24:44as well as the just cause more broadly of maintaining independence and autonomy,
24:48pursuing development and progress so as to build a peaceful and prosperous world and shape a community with a shared
24:54future for mankind.
24:57I thank the distinguished representative of China.
25:01I now give the floor to the distinguished representative of Kenya.
25:19Thank you, Mr. President.
25:21We're listening a few moments ago to the statement of Wukong,
25:25permanent representative of the People's Republic of China at the United Nations,
25:30regarding the discussion that is taking place throughout the day on the resolution against the U.S. economic blockade imposed
25:38on Cuba for over 60 decades.
