01:07Jonathan oh and to a lesser extent Jake Mirren their producer but I don't think he gets he doesn't get

01:20play this and then I want your I want to ask you a pointed question here is Nick and Jonathan
01:26yesterday on you know what would Todd do or how would Todd feel if it was presented about
01:37you know maybe extensions for Deshaun Watson we've gotten to a point where now if Todd went to the
01:44Browns and said let's start having these conversations I think we can make this more than
01:48just a one-year deal I would trust in Todd and if they were to announce a deal before I'm
01:53comfortable
01:53for it there's going to be an element where I would say well I trust in Todd I'll give them
01:58a chance to
01:58make the that was unthinkable seven weeks it was unthinkable it was but now we're at we're at a spot
02:03where you're looking around and it's like can they do better than and right now again the overall
02:07number is not great for Deshaun Watson he's bottom third in every category you could dream up the
02:11offense as a whole we moved from a whopping 17 points a game to 19 points a game it's still
02:1528th in
02:16football like it it's gotta be better but if he plays like he did on Sunday consistently moving
02:21forward then the conversation becomes much simpler and much easier but if you ask me to do it right
02:25now today the health is a big factor of this but the overall play not good enough to keep this
02:29thing
02:29going and see I I'd like to switch it around I don't I don't think that the coach would go
02:35to them
02:35and say hey I think we need to extend this guy or we need to talk about extending this guy
02:39I think it's more likely that they would maybe ask his opinion on it if they were kicking around
02:48like hey looking around the league like all right we're gonna we're better than what we thought
02:52unless the bottom completely falls out which I know some people like well you can never tell

03:10the quarterback class isn't that great am I really willing to trade up give away assets when I still
03:17need those assets but is is there a guy that's going to be there and in the top three teams

03:47have at some point but it's only been one good game and I'm not the biggest J.J. McCarthy fan

04:44are we waiting for the other shoe and I know that they probably have those conversations already and
04:50they probably have their opinions and I hope there's not a confirmation bias but what do you
04:54think right now week eight Todd would tell him it's obviously years money I don't know if he'd be
05:04all there but then if you lay the alternatives down on the table and said what about this guy
05:10compared to Watson what do you think about this guy I think that's where Watson looks better so what
05:18only is Deshaun Watson going to be able to continually do this and stay healthy at his age
05:26after all the surgeries and the injuries or whatever I think then Todd would probably be like
05:30ah but if you then said what if you compare him to this guy what if they were you know

05:35tires on this guy I think that's where Deshaun would win those face-offs okay because I I'm thinking

06:40from anybody here I got a quarterback that's really athletic but also it puts himself in danger
06:44and the the injury he got seriously injured on wasn't even putting himself in danger it was just
06:49bad luck but he's still gonna probably play like he's gonna put himself in danger I'm able to get
06:54something maybe going for J.J. McCarthy I'm gonna stick and see unless Cleveland comes or somebody
07:00comes with a great big offer because the quarterback class isn't that good or you know I'm gonna get

07:58he's in his 30s guys don't really tend to get better he's not old yet no he's not young anymore

08:09had some nice runs this year but he's a fraction of the speed that he used to be but maybe

08:15Watson is smarter than he was when he was younger you know he's seen more defenses he's he's seen
08:21more offenses he's seen more offensive coordinators but there there is a realm depending on what
08:26expectations are in a given year I bet you there are some coaches would be like oh I get a

08:32player that maybe their first team might be ruining or in the process of ruining but has traits has major
08:38traits give me that guy to work with over the offseason over the next two offseasons so that's the only
08:44thing unless you think Todd is like win now I gotta win now I'm in my 60s I have to
08:49win this season
08:50because I think Todd might think that way if he was 31 years old just it he just seems to
08:55be like he knows
08:56do you think most coaches wouldn't want the younger programmable quarterback with better traits
09:01it depends on I think that a guy like Todd monkey I think most coaches are gonna say I gotta

09:06now unless they are in McVay mode like it was just always like hey you'll grow in and now you

09:12basically run the show with less need yes didn't he already have the younger more programmable
09:16quarterback in a competition with Deshaun Watson well that's a that's a yes in so many ways but who
09:23was a fifth rounder is yes I get I get there those are not the same thing but many make
09:28the argument
09:29that he should have been a first rounder as we've heard on the phones for two years everyone around
09:34the situation except for Todd Munkin seemingly had written off Deshaun Watson right and he had the
09:41opportunity to go program a younger guy and he chose to go with a guy that was what I forget
09:48the word
09:49that he used but operationally he was operationally the better quarterback and it turns out that the
09:55operations have you know been good enough to give him time to catch up on the rest of the
09:59so that that's what would Todd have done had he have had a first round pick yeah you know sitting
10:05behind him with all the traits that come with the first round pick you know then would he have been
10:10like well I can take the hit now for a guy that might not be as ready to go but
10:15holy cow what's the
10:16ceiling if this thing if if I'm able to coach this thing up maybe he's thinking differently it's tough
10:21to say yeah that's that's a great point that's what makes it so difficult it's like I can give
10:25my opinion Owen can you can John can but it's like what do we think Todd would say and if

10:31by what just judging by a history and be what's going on right now I'd say Todd would say I

10:51like Deshaun Watson he was basically like the only guy who seemed to like Deshaun Watson
10:55and they picked Todd to be the head coach and we knew right when they picked Todd to be the

11:00coach that to us Deshaun Watson was the leader in the clubhouse to be the starting quarterback
11:07like in January I immediately had to walk walk it back you made me do it on the air and

11:13you said he'd never play for this franchise again do you have to take that back and I said yes
11:18I do and here he is he's playing reasonable football the second thing is is the team
11:24the second thing is is the team that they're all getting along all right and winning means
11:31everything to everybody on the team all right we're five and two if we finish the season and
11:36this is why you wait but if you finish the season 10 and 7 and you get to the playoffs

11:42taking my quarterback who helped us win football games away from us for what for better pff numbers
11:48like I can find better pff numbers can I find the effective play like we all know I don't think
11:54anybody is anybody out there saying he's elite right now except for a couple of wackos on the
11:59internet like no in the fourth quarter final four minutes he's been elite okay but we all know that
12:04he could be better and more consistent and we're all just looking at it going yeah I we know he
12:09but
12:10we're also getting effective football for the most part here and I can't argue with results
12:14because of how how good it is if we find ourselves in a position we're here over the next couple
12:20years
12:20it would be we are in direct comparison now with Kansas City and Buffalo maybe you would have that
12:26conversation but we are nowhere near that conversation yet that's why you would also wait the other
12:31part of it is you're just getting great play after four seasons not great you're just getting
12:40effective play Anthony after four seasons is there something to be said for like you know the plow horse
12:48analogy how much do you feed a plow horse just enough to know he's hungry I mean you got a
12:53contract
12:53here he's playing for his NFL life or he was I I think that there's if it's not with Cleveland
13:01there's somewhere he can go next year if he keeps playing like this
13:06that would probably be another reason you wait because like comfort in the middle of the season like
13:11how good is he gonna be like let's be honest our last quarterback we had he he seems to play
13:17better
13:17when the chips are down and he's he's kind of on the on the thin line and then once he
13:23feels like
13:24he's comfortable things tend to change this year wasn't as much his fault he got banged up but
13:30when things get comfortable he seems to get a little bit too comfortable he's always better when
13:34there's a little bit of uncertainty in his in his career when you could dangle the carrot yes and
13:42you know a mad quarterback doesn't mean he's a bad quarterback if he's more focused and we're
13:47winning football games like yeah I'm I'm gonna have to come to the table and pay the fiddler if
13:52he's that good and we have to because I was wrong earlier this week and I regret saying it was

13:57knee-jerk reaction I go well I'm not paying him another 46 million and then you looked around the
14:01league you go Kenny this is a going rate yeah you are paying him another 46 million for next year
14:04fair yeah 47 is not really anything now no it's not you're right so you do have yourself a bit
