One person has died and 25 others have been rescued after a church building under construction collapsed in Bwerenga, Wakiso District, central Uganda, according to police. The structure, an extension of the main church building in Katabi Town Council, reportedly reached its fourth floor before collapsing. The rescued survivors are receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital as emergency teams continue searching the rubble for anyone who may remain trapped.

Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said investigations are underway to establish the cause of the collapse. A local resident alleged that a crack appeared after concrete was poured on the second floor but that construction continued. The building reportedly lacked approved planning permission, although authorities have yet to confirm the circumstances that led to the disaster.
