00:00I am a woman in technology, and that's like, oh, 20% of the industry, which is something we're very
00:05much trying to change.
00:11When I first moved to Detroit, I was spending more and more time hanging out with all these tech entrepreneurs
00:15who were doing incredible things simply because they knew how to write this magic computer language that made ideas come
00:23to life.
00:23And I thought to myself, well, these guys can do it. I could do that. I could learn to code.
00:28I could start my own company this way, and you could have a huge impact with those kinds of skills.
00:35I think it's interesting that there's so many more men in tech and in IT than there are women, you
00:41know?
00:41And I think it's just that it's harder for women to rise to the top because we can't see it
00:45because there's not a whole lot of other women up there.
00:47And I think there's a lot of people who might hold back.
00:51Right.
00:51Because some of the women I've spoken to said, I want to do it, but I'm not sure.
00:56I don't know, but...
00:58It's scary.
00:59It is.
01:00I've heard all of these stories from other women about feeling very isolated and lonely.
01:05You know, I think it's something like after 10 years, 50% of women leave tech.
01:09I'm very passionate about women in technology and just having these women come in and support each other.
01:15And that subconscious click in your head of like, oh, I see this other woman doing it.
01:19And therefore, like, even though this is a male-dominated field, I can do it too.
01:24And I just think that, like, just do it, you know?
01:28Just do it and just try it and you'll find it so much more rewarding than you ever thought before.
