You've been wondering what's in Lucie's fridge, so today she finally spills the beans.
Transcript
00:00Hey guys! Welcome back to Refinery's YouTube channel. If you're new here and you don't know who I am,
00:05my name is Lucy. This is my bedroom. And now it's time for the highly requested video of
00:10what is in my fridge.
00:17Whoa! That's a big fridge. First and foremost, my fridge isn't always this beautifully stocked.
00:23I did just do a shop and it doesn't always look this neat in here. Sometimes food is spilling
00:27out in the fridge. Sometimes stuff gets moldy and I have to throw it out. I'm just going to get
00:32started in the upper left hand corner and I'm going to talk you through what is in my fridge at
00:36the
00:37moment. Here I have two dozen eggs. I always check my eggs in the grocery store before I buy them
00:43because I've had some leaky cracked eggs incidents and not fun. The next little jar you're seeing
00:49here is a little mason jar where I've put in some fresh basil that I snipped off from my little
00:57basil garden in the kitchen. Smells like a fresh pizza. Organic artichokes. Thankfully, I got away
01:03really easily at the grocery store this time around because a lot of the organic produce was on sale.
01:09So I've got strawberries, I have blueberries and raspberries, and then in the big one on the side,
01:16I've got kiwi and mango. Cheers. All right, we're going to have to do some maneuvering to show you
01:22what's in the back. It's summertime, which means everyone needs a watermelon in their home. Next shelf
01:30down, I have some yogurts and I've been kind of toggling back and forth between dairy-free yogurts
01:36and regular dairy yogurts. This is Kite Hill Almond Milk Yogurt and I have pineapple and blueberry
01:41flavored. Siggy's is currently my favorite regular yogurt brand. It's very low in sugar as opposed
01:49to most yogurts. Live, active cultures. Mmm. Behind the yogurts, I just have some more fruits. So I have
01:56a couple of Granny Smith apples and a dragon fruit. I have a bunch of different peppers here. I have
02:02red,
02:03orange, and yellow. In the back, you'll see four mangoes. I have an organic papaya. Personally,
02:10tropical fruits taste better to me when I'm in the tropics and here I am in the middle of New
02:14York City,
02:15but I do think that you can still taste the tropics in some ways just by buying fruits. I have
02:21a little
02:21bundle of tomatoes. Fresh. In the way back, I've got bananas. For me, bananas go in almost everything.
02:31Smoothies. They go in cereal. I have them plain. I have them with peanut butter. So I'm just a banana
02:38fiend. I have Colivia Farms Almond Milk. I really like the shape of this bottle. I'm in love with the
02:44shape of you. Pure, naked coconut water. It's very hydrating. Love to drink coconut water. In the back,
02:52I've got my Brita filter. I've heard rumors about New York City water. Some people drink it straight
02:57from the tap. Other people say you must filter it. I'm just going the safe route and Brita filtering
03:02it, but every so often, I just, you know, put my face under the faucet and chug. I've got organic
03:08celery.
03:12I also have two bundles of organic kale. This is a reusable produce bag. This is what they come in.
03:21Apparently, it keeps your fruit and vegetables fresh for up to 10 times longer than when they're not in these
03:26bags.
03:27I would just put the kale
03:29right in here, and then just put it right in here. And that is how you put things in bags.
03:35Onto the ginger.
03:36These are just organic ginger fingers. I honestly don't know if they're called fingers, but that's what they look like.
03:42I'm gonna move over to this vegetable drawer.
03:45Ah! We're just gonna put that drawer back in. Organic carrots.
03:50Oh, this is a disaster. Cucumbers. Sometimes I juice cucumbers by myself and I just drink
03:58cuke juice because it's so good. Really fresh. Firm. Okay. Eggplant. This is another great vegetable to have in the
04:07house.
04:08And then just behind it, I have an onion. And this onion is really large and really in charge.
04:18Feels good.
04:19I've got a lot of citrus in here and then also a few other things. In the front, I've got
04:23three limes.
04:24Four oranges. Avocados from Mexico. I'm just kidding. I don't know if they're from Mexico, but I love having avocados.
04:31Personally, I love avocados. They're just a great source of a healthy fat, and I love fat.
04:37Two kiwi. The rest of the ones that I had already cut up are what you're seeing in here.
04:42The big guy. A grapefruit. This is one of my favorite things because when you squeeze the skin, the oils
04:48start to come out of it.
04:50I'm getting a little touchy with my produce.
04:53Last thing on this side is this bottom drawer. It's kind of a random conglomerate of things.
04:57Michael's gluten-free bread. He keeps his bread in the fridge. This is his GFB.
05:02And then I have two different types of peanut butters here. So, classic Skippy Creamy.
05:07And a little bit of a healthier version. This is Everland's organic coconut peanut butter, and it's crunchy.
05:14So, it kind of tastes like coconut oil. It kind of tastes like peanuts.
05:18Then I've got a few gluten-free Bob's Red Mill flours here. So, this is an all-purpose baking flour.
05:25There's a baking soda, and there's also another baking flour.
05:29And the last thing in this fridge over here are some string cheeses.
05:35Alright, and that is this side of the refrigerator. So, if I start over here, I just got an organic
05:42soy sauce.
05:43This is just a grape Poupon Dijon mustard. And this ketchup is organic unsweetened ketchup.
05:50I've got coconut secrets, coconut aminos. This sort of tastes like soy sauce, but it's not soy sauce.
05:57And it's really just made with organic coconut tree sap.
06:00And then just a classic tomato sauce. This is my butter dish.
06:05And all the extra butter sticks go down here. This is sort of my breakfast toast jam spot.
06:11So, I've got blueberry pomegranate jam from Stonewall Kitchen.
06:15This apricot preserve, which is from Lucy. Just kidding. Lucian.
06:21I usually top my toasts with chia seeds. So, I love storing them in this mason jar.
06:26I don't know why it just feels very modern and fresh. Plus, it makes like a morocco.
06:30And then, the favorite of the shelf. Nestle Toll House chocolate chip cookie dough.
06:37It is a childhood classic and a staple in the Lucy Fink household.
06:41I could basically eat this entire roll raw. Do not consume raw cookie dough. What a waste.
06:49I've got maple syrups here. I have two different brands. This one is Brad's Organic.
06:53And this one is Shady Maple Farms. It's almost running low.
06:57In front of it, we have this Naturopathica Stress Resistance Fortified Honey.
07:02And I don't normally keep my honeys in the fridge, but this one looks good in the fridge.
07:07And then, behind it, I've got this 100% pomegranate juice. Antioxidant rich.
07:14I've got some Haribo gummy bears. And I like to keep them in the fridge because they stay cold and
07:20almost a little hard.
07:21And I love it. It is no coincidence that I keep the pickles right next to my sweet drawer.
07:28I actually did hear once that if you're craving sugar and you're just really, really in the mood for sugar
07:33and you eat a pickle instead, it will help satisfy the craving.
07:37I'm obsessed with chocolate, especially dark chocolate. I just got a Lindt 70% Smooth Dark.
07:42I've also got a few Lindor Lindt Truffles. In the back here, you'll see these Justin's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter
07:50Cups.
07:51These come all together as minis in this bag, so it's really a great bulk purchase.
07:59Pop the pickles in. I keep this Earth Balance Organic Coconut Spread.
08:04And all the way on the right is some ground flaxseed. I usually put this on yogurt or oatmeal and
08:10sometimes in smoothies and it gives it kind of a really thick and nutty consistency.
08:15On the bottom I just have a few cans of some seltzer that I've been finishing up. I have this
08:22Hunt's tomato paste that I can use for cooking.
08:25I've got these two Rebel drinks here that I haven't tried yet, but they look so good and so I'm
08:31keeping them in my fridge, stashing them for a rainy day.
08:33I've got a Wolfer Dry Rosé Cider. If you remember, I did Lucy for Hire as a winemaker and I
08:38went to Wolfer Estate in the Hamptons and this came from there.
08:42Just in front of that is this Superfood Powder. I haven't even opened it yet, but you are supposed to
08:48take a tablespoon of it and scoop it into a yogurt or a cereal or a smoothie and it really
08:53will just give you a nutrient plant boost.
08:56So that's cool. Next to it is this biodegradable produce wash that I made with lemon and apple cider vinegar.
09:03Super easy to make.
09:04In front of it is a probiotic that I've been using, PD-8. And just behind it is that apple
09:10cider vinegar that I made the produce wash with.
09:13Sometimes I take it as a shot straight. Sometimes I put it in water and I drink it with lemon.
09:18Other times I use it to wash things. So it's truly a versatile product.
09:23And the last thing you're seeing is this lovely selection of lemon and lime juice squeezes. And that, my friends,
09:30is the fridge.
09:32And now I'm going to take you into the freezer. Here we go. And it's got two layers.
09:57And that is what's inside my refrigerator. I gotta stand up. And that is what's inside my refrigerator and my
10:07freezer. Hope you liked it.
10:09Now that I showed you what was in my fridge, let's talk about money.
10:14Refinery29 has a new book that's coming out soon and it's called Money Diaries.
10:18I was especially excited when I got this book in my hands because there's a chapter all about getting honest
10:23with your spending and saving habits.
10:25And the first challenge that the book tells you to do is to take the highlighter test.
10:29Basically the idea is that you will write down everything you've spent on and then you go back to your
10:35list with a highlighter and you highlight every single thing that does not make you happy.
10:41So because I wanted to do the highlighter test, I went back to my financial statement and I pulled out
10:45all the other things that I spent on in that previous week.
10:48$32 for a manicure and pedicure.
10:50$10.59 for a taxi.
10:52$45 for a birthday present for my friend.
10:54$12 on a yoga class.
10:56$2 for a yoga mat rental at the class.
10:59$20 refilling my laundry card.
11:01$57.47 for Con Ed. That's actually half the bill, so Michael paid the other half.
11:07And $3.50 on a latte.
11:09I went through and I highlighted anything on the list that just didn't really feel great.
11:14First and foremost, the manicure and pedicure.
11:16I find that I hate spending money on that because I can actually do manicures and pedicures myself.
11:21And the moment I left, this happened.
11:24Not good.
11:24The next thing I didn't particularly love was the yoga mat rental.
11:27I actually have a yoga mat of my own and I was just being lazy and I wound up spending
11:32an extra $2 for no reason.
11:34Third was refilling my laundry card.
11:35I mean, I know I gotta do my laundry, but it's not particularly exciting.
11:39And the final was the Con Ed bill because that doesn't get me, you know, jumping for joy.
11:45Meanwhile, I'm so happy with every single cent that I spent on that fresh produce.
11:49And I also love supporting local businesses and buying things at the farmer's market nearby.
11:53I would have highlighted the taxi ride normally because I have a subway card so there's no reason to pay
11:58that amount of money.
11:59But I was really happy that I took that taxi because it was late at night and the thought of
12:03going underground alone didn't feel good.
12:05So the taxi above ground was great.
12:07The birthday present for a friend was great.
12:08I was really excited to give that gift to her.
12:10The yoga class obviously was amazing.
12:12And then last but not least, the latte.
12:15Normally that would be something that I wouldn't feel great about because I can just make my coffee at home
12:19and it would be way cheaper.
12:20But I drank that latte sitting across from a friend that I hadn't seen in about two years.
12:25And so that was a lovely experience.
12:28See you guys later.
12:29Bye!
