At Berghain, the party never stops. No photos are allowed and its mysteriousness is one of the reasons why it's Berlin's hottest night club.

00:00To me, Berghain is one of the best clubs in the world.
00:02They're kind of the best club in the world.
00:04The best club in the world.
00:06The quintessential part of life.
00:09Berghain is definitely a very exclusive place.
00:14So, because not everybody can enter, sometimes you do the line for three hours and then they say no.
00:23The people that are approaching have to know, 80% chance you're not getting inside.
00:29We stood in the line for like a half hour, I think, or maybe longer.
00:34And then when we were at the front, he was going to let us in, but then he didn't.
01:0616 euro is the price of happiness.
01:08You can stay there like 36 hours.
01:11So, that's not super expensive for what you can find inside.
01:16One of the things that makes Berlin nightlife different is parties just, they don't end.
01:21They go for days, there's no closing time.
01:24I spent 16 hours in Berghain inside.
01:39It's a respect thing, I guess, to let the stickers on and to not make photos of it.
01:47Because you don't want that, this privacy and this place where you can be like who you want to be.
01:56And you don't want to destroy this place.
01:58You don't want to destroy the feeling, the spirit.
02:04I've heard rumors.
02:06The whole thing, it's a gay community.
02:09It's a naked community.
02:11It's like going crazy, drugs, dark rooms.
02:14I don't care.
02:15I'm just accepting everybody how he is.
02:18It's not interesting to me.
02:19I'm just dancing.
02:20That's what I'm doing.
02:21What happens inside Berghain stays in Berghain?
02:25I've heard literally anything from the spectrum of like it's the chillest place ever.
02:29Everyone's sitting down and chilling too.
02:31It is the craziest thing I've ever seen.
02:33So I think it's just worth checking it out ourselves.
02:36It's one of those things where I feel like you just have to go and experience to see what it's
02:41like.
02:42The point is to create a parallel universe, a separate world.
02:48And it's hard to talk about Berghain because you can't explain to someone what's going on there.
02:54You can state the actions, but it's about an energy.
02:57It's about a feeling.
02:58And when you try to put it into words to somebody that's never seen it before,
03:04you just end up telling some tall tale that sounds kind of ridiculous.
03:08Like, ah, that's crazy.
03:09And these people are all nuts.
03:18Nightlife in Berlin is an extremely important thing because that's also the reason why so many people like to come
03:24here.
03:25It's very important and meaningful to Berlin.
03:27I think even more than some museum.
03:36It's a place where you can just, I don't know, behave whatever you feel is the best for you at
03:42that moment.
03:42And if that's, I don't know, getting rid of all your clothes, then that's the thing to do there.
03:48And nobody will say, you cannot do that.
03:50I think Berghain can only exist in Berlin because Berlin is essentially the city for freedom.
03:59You don't have to abide to social norms and rules.
04:02You just, and everything is accepted and expected to some extent if you're inside.
04:09It's nothing that should be talked about or that will be talked about.
04:13But you can all feel it and that's the important bit about it.
04:17Berghain is a symbol of freedom because people can do there whatever they want.
04:21Berghain has been elevated to an institutional level, right?
04:25It's really seen as part of the fabric of the city.
04:29Some people are afraid of it.
04:31Most people probably just don't want to deal with the line.
04:34And then to the people that go there, it's the closest thing to church that many of them have.
04:40I'm very proud of the person that I've become because of this club.
04:44I think I'm an extremely outgoing, exhibitionistic, open-minded and tolerant person
04:50because of the experiences that I've had here.
04:52Berghain changed my life because it gave me all my dearest friends and friendship,
04:58a very close friendship like I've never had before.
05:03And it changed my life also because it gave me this place where I can go,
05:09scream on the dance floor because I feel like it.
05:13I can scream my rage, I can scream my joy, I can scream my sadness.
05:22I had a great night at Berghain and Leeds now because it's Monday, I guess, in the morning.
05:29And yeah, it was a very, very great night.
