00:05We're on a boat!
00:15Dope.
00:16Manchester, also known as the capital of the north, is absolutely worth exploring even if you aren't a football fan.
00:22Today I'm sharing my favorite spots to visit that are sure to provide some travel inspo.
00:26Get ready for a glorious mix of music, nightlife, and iconic canals.
00:31I'm Vanessa and this is 29 Hours Manchester. You ready? Let's go.
00:39First up is the unapologetically opulent Gotham Hotel.
00:43The Gotham is located in a former bank building and a quick walk away from the metro.
00:49Each room features swanky vintage decor.
00:51Can I buy this? Can I have this?
00:53And if you play your cards right, you'll have a gold tub right in the center of your room.
00:58Don't forget to check out the private rooftop bar for incredible city views and even more decadence.
01:04My absolute favorite meal of the day is brunch.
01:07If brunch were a food group, I'd be a happy camper.
01:10So I had to check out the brunch offerings at Albert Schloss, a bohemian beer palace serving up traditional German
01:17food and an excellent time.
01:19I started with the push for Prosecco button and followed it up with a pink gin cocktail.
01:26Gin for breakfast!
01:29Manchester has a surprisingly eclectic food scene and Albert Schloss does not disappoint me.
01:34Manchester is full of hella canals.
01:38The miles of waterways were built during England's Industrial Revolution to allow for coal to be transported to this northern
01:43city.
01:44Upon visiting, I know I had to seek out the canal and I was lucky enough to meet someone that
01:48actually lives on them.
01:50Hi!
01:51Hello!
01:51Nice to meet you!
01:52Jo lives in her narrowboat, called Tiernag, year-round with her dog.
01:57Wow, it's moving!
01:59Oh my god, it's so fun!
02:01She alone is responsible for keeping the boat stocked with wood and moving the seven-foot vessel along the waterways
02:05as needed throughout the year.
02:07It always used to be the women that drove the boat.
02:09But now, there's a lot of couples that have boats and a lot of the men are like, oh, I
02:15have to drive the boat.
02:16And it's like, no, the history! The history says the women drive the boat.
02:20And all boats are women as well. All the boats are female on the water.
02:25So essentially, boating is girl power.
02:27Yeah.
02:28Ladies and gentlemen.
02:30Manchester is home to tons of successful groups, and the city is well known for its contribution to music history.
02:36Piccadilly Records is an independent record store working to preserve the eclectic mix of music genres in the city.
02:41Think indie, psych, funk, house, bass, and a few others I've never even heard of.
02:46You've got the really strange regional varieties of dance music, which I could give you a really weird list of.
02:52So there's like, Wigan Pier.
02:54Wigan Pier.
02:54Wigan Pier.
02:55Wigan.
02:56Wigan Pier.
02:57Wigan Pier.
02:58Yeah, Scouse House.
03:00So Scouse House is from Liverpool, because Fuddlians are called Scouses.
03:03So Scouse House is...
03:05Donk.
03:06Donk.
03:07Yeah, Spanish donk does exist.
03:08Because a donk is like a butt.
03:13I thought it might have been like a naughty thing.
03:14I love the variations.
03:16But it's not.
03:16It's just a kind of...
03:17It's a sound.
03:18It's a sound, yeah.
03:19It's a donk.
03:19Donk.
03:20Donk.
03:20Donk.
03:20Donk.
03:21Donk.
03:21That's different.
03:22Donk.
03:23After shopping, must come drinking.
03:27The Alchemist is an inventive cocktail spot, brewing up unique and original cocktails that
03:32are sure to end up on your timeline.
03:34I met up with female head mixologist Holly to learn about some of her latest.
03:38I'm so excited to try some cocktails today.
03:40Yeah, we're gonna make some cocktails for you.
03:41Yes, I definitely want the most theatrical, like, biggest bang cocktails you got.
03:46Okay, I've got a few in mind for you.
03:47My absolute favorite was called the bubble bath, and bubbled up like a bizarre, but delicious,
03:52science experiment.
03:54So, to become a bartender at the Alchemist, you basically have to start from the bottom,
03:57so you start a bar back, and then you kind of work your way up.
04:00I'm the only female head bartender in the Alchemist at the minute.
04:04Ooh.
04:04Hopefully there's gonna be more coming through now.
04:06Yeah, that's amazing.
04:07Wow.
04:08There are so many bubbles.
04:11Okay, I'm gonna do it.
04:14I don't know if I can.
04:15Okay.
04:22Thank you so much for today.
04:24I'm gonna go back, and I'm gonna go see a show now.
04:26Well, have a lovely evening.
04:27I decided to end the night in Manchester with a bang.
04:31And Menagerie was the perfect place to do it.
04:34This female-founded and owned restaurant and bar is all about experiences,
04:39and provides a show along with cocktails and a few laps.
05:00After dancing along with the show, I took my night into Gayville.
05:04This area around Canal Street offers a whole host of bars, pubs, and clubs,
05:09full of acceptance and an excellent time.
05:14Manchester has been amazing.
05:16I can't say enough about the delicious bites and the incredibly inclusive community.
05:21The locals are super friendly, and the down-to-earth vibe make it ideal for exploring,
05:26with or without a cocktail.
05:27Head up north and find out for yourself.
05:29Bye!
