Rissa is ready for a new look and Rihanna's stylist Yuself gives Rissa her first wig experience.
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Rissa, and today I'm going to be getting my hair done by Rihanna's stylist, Youssef.
00:05I love my hair, I really do, but my hair is super curly and super dry.
00:10I think I had a stylist say to me, oh, like, your hair has, like, beautiful curls, but
00:14then it dries into a bush, and I was like, that's true, that's true, I mean, if I could
00:20have my hair, like, flash frozen when I get out of the shower, I'd be, like, all the time,
00:24like, look at me.
00:25I think that I could really rock a wash and go if my hair kind of stayed wet.
00:31Sounds weird, but girls, you know what I'm talking about.
00:33I'm really excited for Youssef to bless my head.
00:35I want him to oil my scalp, and I want him to just, like, revitalize my look.
00:39No, I'm not nervous at all.
00:40I cannot wait.
00:41Youssef, I trust you completely.
00:43Honestly, I want to be Rihanna, but that won't happen overnight, but if I can have, like, her
00:47hair?
00:48Plus, we both have big foreheads, so I know that I'm going to be safe.
00:51He's talented, I'm cute, like, it's going to work.
00:54Hello, my name is Youssef, celebrity hairstylist here in New York City.
00:57I just think we should do something a little sexy, something away from the face.
01:01So am I going to look around at the end of this video?
01:03Yeah, I think so.
01:04Okay.
01:04So it's very important when you're doing wigs that your foundation is very tamed.
01:10I always like to braid my foundation down as small as possible, just so the wig can be
01:15flat and secured.
01:18I've been doing hair since I was 13 years old.
01:21I was in the music industry and hair was something that I always did, you know, on my down time
01:27as a hobby.
01:28I was doing a lot of fashion.
01:29I didn't realize it was happening, but before I knew it, I was doing actors and musicians
01:35every day.
01:36I've never had a wig before because my mom doesn't wear wigs.
01:40I grew up in a majority white community and wigs weren't the norm there.
01:44I just feel like wearing a wig is an easy way to change up my look without having to cut
01:49my hair, grow out my hair, worry about the health of my hair on daily.
01:52I started working with Rihanna in 2009, a long time ago, wow.
01:58My first time working with her was Paris Fashion Week.
02:00I was supposed to be with her for like two days and I wind up staying for the whole week.
02:04She just kind of let me go, which was an amazing process because it allowed me to just do things
02:10that I saw her having like long before I even worked with her and it just turned out to
02:15be like magic.
02:16I don't have baby hair.
02:19Is there a way to like get that look or should I just like give up?
02:21Well, most baby hairs are just broken hair.
02:24Okay.
02:24Let's be real.
02:27Have you ever thought that it looks like bacon, just as a thing?
02:32I never, ever, ever thought about that, but you are so right.
02:36All right, so I'm using a little of the gel just to give this a more of a flatter surface
02:43and when it dries, it also helps the wig stick to her head.
02:47How far in advance do you plan out looks?
02:49Like the night before or sometimes on set.
02:52We don't like to feel trapped in like a look, we just go with the flow.
02:57What do you think is going to make the newest hair trend coming up?
03:00Um, other than wigs?
03:02Nowadays like people want to feel a little bit more like tamed.
03:05I feel like that's really something that I'm seeing a lot.
03:08Not the like kind of like messy hair and things like that.
03:10I feel like women are not like doing their hair, making sure their hair is in place.
03:14I think it's like part of the whole like self-care movement.
03:16Please, the world is so crazy right now.
03:19The last thing you want to do is get like lost and you know, be a part of the screaming
03:23nonsense.
03:24I mean hair plays a big part of that.
03:25Beauty plays a big part of that.
03:32So I'm using a stocking cap and I'm going to use this as
03:35the base for the lace front.
03:37Let's make my forehead look smaller.
03:41I mean that's if you want to bring your wig down here, but I don't recommend that.
03:45I always say follow your hairline.
03:47If you're going to not follow your hairline, just go a tiny bit above it just to protect
03:51your hair.
03:52Okay.
03:52So now I'm going to cut the perimeter of the stocking cap.
03:59I know Rissa talked about making her forehead smaller, but I love a good forehead.
04:05So I'm just bringing it down a little bit above her natural hairline.
04:10Beard awake behind you.
04:13I think that Yousef is very inventive with his hairstyles.
04:15I loved around his hair on Oceans 8.
04:18I thought the really thick locks were really cool and amazing and kind of like paid homage
04:22to Caribbean culture.
04:24I think he really works with his clients to find styles that work with their face and
04:28their features.
04:29So it's not trying to match a style to a person, but to create a style around the person,
04:33which I think is very cool.
04:35I always love this hair.
04:36It's something that you can do formal.
04:38You can dress it up.
04:39I'm just going to go in and do like some messy layers, nothing too contrived.
04:51What I'm going to do is just take these extra long pieces of hair and use a razor and just
04:57kind of like sporadically cut them.
04:59And that's how we'll create our gorgeous little baby hair drama.
05:06All right, Rissa, do you want to see what we came up with?
05:15I look so sexy.
05:16Is that just me?
05:18No.
05:18This is the idea.
05:20You are cute.
05:21I mean, you are cute.
05:22You came up.
05:23You look good, girl.
05:24You look good.
05:26Also, first time I like having baby hair, you guys.
05:28Babies.
05:29No bacon.
05:30The wet look.
05:31Who would have thought?
05:32Wet and go.
05:32Let it go.
05:33Let it go.
05:34Let it go.
05:36Let it go.
05:37So this is our finished look.
05:39Hope you guys like it.
05:40Do you like it?
05:41I like it.
05:41I like it.
