Ever since we first rested our gaze on divergent eyeliner at Dior's cruise collection runway show back in early May, we've been seriously crushing on this unique liner look. Then, Chanel went ahead and sexed it up at its resort show, and we just knew we had to find a way to add this uniquely gorgeous makeup trend to our lives, like now.

So, we set out on a mission: We needed a cool, in-the-know pro to show us exactly how to replicate this amazing eye-defining trick on ourselves. Enter Niko Lopez, a NARS national makeup stylist. Lopez was totally game to show us not one but two different ways to do divergent liner — a look, we might add, that was copped from the makeup many dancers wear to make their eyes appear larger onstage. And, while it may look complicated, our beauty writer/guinea pig Maria was psyched to learn it's actually a piece of cake to recreate.

Check out the video to learn two cool ways to wear this rad runway trend.

00:09Hi, my name is Nico, national makeup stylist with NARS Cosmetics. Today we're
00:13gonna create a divergent eyeliner which is an extension of an eyeliner past the
00:17eye top and bottom with a gap in between to kind of give it a nice look from a
00:21distance and kind of open up her eyes. So the first tip we're gonna do is kind of
00:24just draw out a guideline using a pencil and make sure not to go too winged out
00:28upwards. You want to do it straight out. When you wing it up outwards and up it
00:33might look a little too costume. Next we're gonna go back with the liquid
00:36liner that's long wear and trace over the guideline and extend past the eye
00:41straight out. Basically the idea here is that you want to start thinner on the
00:45inner eye and kind of thicken the line as you go out. It's gonna give it a more
00:48fluid line. The next step is to grab a white eyeliner that is very creamy and
00:53trace that line straight out. The next thing you want to do is draw a guide
00:58for the bottom liner. Again I'm going back and sealing that line and perfecting
01:03it with a liquid liner. On the rear I'm using the NARS Black Valley Eye Paint
01:07which I find ideal because it goes on really creamy and it almost dries
01:11instantly. Having a white line in between not only gives you a better idea
01:15of what angle to take, it's also gonna open up the eyes from a distance and
01:19really make a nice contrast between the two lines. Once you're done you could go
01:23back and perfect it with a little q-tip and also you want to really diffuse that
01:27white line. Now we're just going to finish the look off with a little mascara.
01:33So this is the finished daytime look. If you want to take it to the next level for
01:37evening I'll show you how to do that now. The first step in taking this to
01:40evening is you want to start with the cream shadow and layering it over the
01:44liner and then just blend it up to the crease. Do the same on the bottom lash line
01:48only this time bring it in all the way to the inner corner of the eyes to kind of
01:52give it that more rounded smokey eye. Set the cream shadow with a powder eyeshadow
01:57just to give it a little shine and a little bit of color and finally fill the
02:01water line with a black pencil. Clean up any fallen eyeshadow with a little
02:06concealer, maybe add another layer of mascara and you're good to go. So this is
02:10the finished look. Divergent liner is a look that was very popular in the fashion
02:15shows this season. So this is a perfect example of how you could take this runway look
02:19and make it wearable.
