00:00My arm's getting a workout.
00:06Hi, I'm Chloe with Refinery29, and today on IDIY,
00:09we're going to make a super affordable plant hanger
00:12for your succulents for summer.
00:14So let's get started.
00:15What you'll need is some newspaper, twine,
00:18plastic wine glasses, scissors, a ruler, dirt,
00:22white paint, paintbrush, rubber bands, and succulents.
00:26So for your first step, we're going to paint
00:28the bottom of the wine glass.
00:29I'm going to take a rubber band,
00:31and I'm going to put it about 3 fourths the way down the wine glass.
00:37And then I'm just going to do about 3 coats of white paint.
00:41And once that's done, I'm going to let it sit for about 30 minutes.
00:45So now that they're dried, I'm going to take the rubber bands off.
00:48And now we're going to plant our succulents.
00:51Come on, succulents.
00:52Ooh, a spider.
00:54Okay, so they're looking super fun.
00:56So now that these are done, we're going to set them aside,
01:00and I'm going to start making the netting to hold seconds.
01:04I'm going to go ahead and take my cotton rope,
01:07and I'm going to be cutting 8 pieces, each about 5 feet long.
01:12And then I'm just going to line them up from the top.
01:16And I'm going to go ahead and tie a knot,
01:20and leave about 2 inches to 3 inches at the end.
01:26So now we're going to start tying the net.
01:29And you'll want to break the rope into groups of 2.
01:33And I'm just going to take each set and tie a knot about an inch from the center.
01:41So once you've done those 4 knots, you'll want to take each string
01:46and attach it to the one next to it that's not part of the knot.
01:51So I'm going to take these 2 together, do the same kind of knot,
01:56and then keep connecting them all the way around.
02:01So once you're finished with those knots, it should look like a square.
02:05And it's kind of messy, but it's going to be the base where the wine glass will sit.
02:11And then we're going to do one more set of knots,
02:14and you're going to do exactly the same like you did last time,
02:16connecting the ones from the opposite sides.
02:19All right, so after you tie that last knot,
02:22you should have 4 corners and then a diamond shape in the middle
02:27with the knot coming out of it.
02:29Flip it over.
02:30And you could stop here, but we're going to do a double planter.
02:34So we're going to make another one of these.
02:36Once you position it, I'm going to decide where I want the second one.
02:40And I'm going to do it about here.
02:44I'm going to do another knot.
02:45So then you'll want to take your succulent out real quick.
02:48And then you're going to do the exact same process.
02:52So I kind of need an assistant because this is a two-person project.
02:56So the lovely Katie is going to help me.
02:59All right, so we're all done.
03:00I think it looks really cute.
03:02This is a great project for indoors or outdoors.
03:05I think we're going to hang it in our new office.
03:07So thanks for watching.
