00:02We're here with Jamie King and I'm so happy to meet you.
00:06Nice to meet you.
00:07But I want to ask you about your hair because I did a double take when I just saw this.
00:11Oh, I love hearing that.
00:12You're welcome.
00:13Well, this hair is the faux bob that Ben Scriven created for me.
00:17It's actually kind of cool because the Facebook community chose this for me.
00:22They had different looks to choose from and they voted on this and this one won.
00:25And I really love it.
00:26It's great.
00:26It's great for a girl that doesn't want to cut her hair in a bob but still wants that kind
00:30of look.
00:30What was it like knowing that you were letting the internet decide your next hairstyle?
00:36I thought it was really awesome.
00:38I'm from the Midwest, so for me, I feel like it's really fun to include people and to show them
00:45that it's okay to be creative and it's fun to put in their input.
00:48And so this contest for me was about accessibility, that they felt that they had a voice in what we
00:53were doing,
00:53and that they have a voice to go online and show how brilliant and creative they are and have the
00:58possibility of winning this great contest.
01:00Well, I'm also from the Midwest, so I have a soft spot for that part of the country.
01:04Yes.
01:05But, you know, you've lived all over the world, you've worked in New York, Los Angeles, and your show is
01:11set in the South.
01:12How have these places kind of influenced your own sense of style?
01:16I think that my style has been influenced by traveling from all over the world, by just seeing different cultures
01:21and what women do to feel beautiful.
01:24I feel like in Europe, women are very polished, they're very elegant, they're very refined in Paris or Italy.
01:32And then when you go to somewhere like the South, it's definitely very much like a Southern Belle set type
01:38look, at least the South that I portray on Heart of Dixie.
01:42And then, you know, you have a place like California that's all about sort of like, you know, easy, breezy,
01:48like how do you keep yourself looking very you, like in the minimal amount of time, but still sexy and
01:52gorgeous.
01:52And then New York, which is always very avant-garde and cutting edge.
01:55And so it's fun traveling to these different places and learning about what, you know, what people are into and
02:02then seeing what looks good for you.
02:03I wanted to ask you just about your own hair and skin routine at home.
02:08Like, you cannot see a pore on her face.
02:10I'm not kidding.
02:11Just perfect skin.
02:12Genetics.
02:13I hate it when that's the answer.
02:15No, no, no.
02:16I think it's always a combination of both.
02:17My mother has really beautiful skin, so I feel very, very blessed.
02:21Thank you, Mama.
02:22But I also think that one thing that I actually learned from my mother is taking really good care of
02:27your skin and your health.
02:28And so you don't have to have a lot of money to do that.
02:31If you have just a regular washcloth and soap and water, then you can scrub and exfoliate your face.
02:36You don't have to have fancy machines or anything like that.
02:39And drink a lot of water, keep yourself very hydrated.
02:42I hear you have a baby coming.
02:43Yes, I do.
02:44And I've also heard that babies sometimes require a more low-key look.
02:47Yeah, absolutely.
02:49I think once the baby arrives, for sure.
02:51And I also think that, like, you don't really want to have a lot of toxic products on your skin
02:54during your pregnancy.
02:56So I'm trying to keep that to a bare minimum.
02:59Cool.
02:59Well, I always like to ask this of people because I think it tells you so much about them.
03:04What was your first beauty memory, whether it's a haircut or a product that you tried?
03:10I remember trying my mother's Avon beauty products.
03:16The Avon lady would come, like, door-to-door.
03:19And I remember it was, like, really exciting when my mom would buy beauty products from the Avon lady
03:24because, like, it seemed, like, really exciting to me.
03:26So those are probably my first memories of beauty.
03:29Lovely.
03:30Well, are you going to let your hair down later?
03:32Are you keeping it up for the bob anniversary?
03:33Oh, I'm going to keep this in for as long as this sucker will last.
03:36And there's a lot of pins in it, so I think it'll be for a while.
03:39I hope so.
03:40It looks good.
03:41It suits you.
03:41You might actually want to get a real bob.
03:43Oh, you know.
03:43I've done it before.
03:44I'll probably do it again.
03:45You never know.
03:46Thank you so much for talking with us.
03:48I appreciate it.
03:49Bye.
03:49Thanks for watching Refinery29.
