As much as we love a good, beachy 'do, sometimes you need your look to be a little more sophisticated. Maybe you're heading to a sunset cocktail shindig, or perhaps you just prefer a style that's a bit more polished — either way, you want to be able to take those tousled strands and turn them into something chic without a ton of effort.

Well, we've got the tutorial for you, thanks to Vidal Sassoon Pro Series ambassador Ben Skervin. In this video, he teaches our executive editor Neha how to work with all that texture to create a cool-yet-chic bun that looks done enough for any fancy affair. Love this look but not currently sporting any beach hair of your own? Skervin says to add some Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse to wet hair and let it air-dry — or give it a quick blowdry — and you'll have the texture you need.

Finish off your 'do with some hairspray and you're good to go wherever the rest of your day (and night) might take you. Watch the video to get the full play-by-play for creating this stunning summer style.

00:08Hi, my name is Ben Skirbin and I'm the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Hairdresser and today I'm
00:13going to be showing you how to take your hair from beachy waves to a fun up style that you
00:17can wear out on the streets. So instead of doing a boring old ponytail, we're going to
00:21do a messy bun and here's the first step. I'm going to take a horseshoe section on the
00:25top, twist this out the way. So I'm keeping this out the way because basically what I'm
00:30going to do is pull this into a ponytail in the back here. I'm just going to pull it all
00:33back really loosely with my hands and fingers. Then I'm going to take a piece of elastic,
00:37for you guys at home I'd use like the ones with the hook and eyes on the end, just to
00:40make it easier for you to do. Wrap this round, tie it off, then take the top section, I'm
00:49going to go through the crown area from the front to the back and just do a little bit
00:53of backcombing to add a little bit of height. When backcombing it's really important that
00:57you don't go crazy and mad and go backwards and forwards, just go in one, two and as you
01:02can see it gives you the height and stiffness that you need without damaging the hair and
01:06it's also much easier to brush out as well at the end of it. So repeat that all the way
01:10through to the back, pull everything back, do a little twist and then taking a U-shaped
01:17pin like this, go in and secure your little twist into place. Then split your ponytail
01:23into two pieces and basically tie it into a knot, pull it through and then take each bit
01:29and twist it round. And then taking bobby pins, we're going to use these to secure the
01:35bun into place. Also while you're doing this, again, no combs, no brushes as you can see,
01:40I'm just using my fingers so we keep a real freedom with the texture. You can then use U-shaped
01:46pins and just go in on the Kirby pins and use those as a really great anchor.
01:51So once you've got your messy bun in place, I then just use my fingers, go round and kind
01:55of deconstruct the style a little bit even more. So here we have it, our Beach to Street
02:00messy bun. And the great thing about this is you don't need too many hair products because
02:03you've got that amazing sea salty texture.
