00:02lions and vikings coming up on sunday i said before the break i think that what we're going
00:07to be talking about is the single critical matchup that cost detroit last year against
00:11the vikings in both games now taking a look at at jared goff uh the lions quarterback and of course
00:18you know looking at quarterback play is a good place to start when you're deciding who's going
00:25to win a football game goff had one good game against the vikings the first one it was way
00:31better the first time out than the second time out the second time out he threw a couple of picks
00:36but if i look at this what went wrong last year goff was sacked 10 times in those two losses
00:43and turned the ball over four times it was the two interceptions in the second game and twice when he
00:49was sacked he fumbled and so i think what we're looking at is there's the game within the game
00:59providing a clean pocket and protecting jared goff
01:05pass rush leads to off-platform throws leads to hurry throws leads to tip passes
01:12leads to turnovers and if you know minnesota there should be respect for their defense although
01:19i have some questions about their defense and we'll get to the reason why as the show goes on but
01:24they have been without question very very good okay and they were good against the lions last year
01:32but i think this is this is the the matchup that matters the most is can minnesota get to goff
01:40and
01:40can detroit protect goff and this is like you know the beginning of the week dan campbell
01:46basically said as much this is a cade mays jared goff communication game i'm assuming what he meant
01:52by that was mays with the rest of the offensive line and goff with protections running backs
01:59and with the offensive line yeah i mean you've got five offensive linemen and sometimes you'll have a
02:05running back in as well to to pass protect maybe sometimes you're going to have the tight end is going
02:09to
02:09stay as well um but there will be plays where there isn't a running back in the backfield
02:16or there isn't a tight end that's going to stay in a block and they're going to throw seven guys
02:21in
02:21line of scrimmage and you have to figure out which one of those seven is coming through unblocked
02:27because they're going to be mixing and matching the whole time that's what brian flores does he blitzes
02:32all the time and you never know really where it's coming from and that's tough so whoever your
02:39your check down is or your dump off play because it's coming in quick it's blown up and you got
02:45to
02:45throw it a lot of times it's to the running back well they they may have to change things up
02:48offensively to create other outlets that are just beyond the simple i'm going to throw to the running
02:55back because he should be back here maybe they're going to be some receiver routes or tight end routes
02:59where they hang around the line of scrimmage as well so when the rush comes in there's my outlet
03:04it's right there this is a it's absolutely the key for this game is recognizing where the pressure is
03:11going to come from you're not going to stop it every time they're just not going to work at 100
03:14efficiency like that but can you limit the damage 10 sacks is a ton of sacks in two games the
03:22four
03:22turnovers in a one game is a massive amount of turnovers you cannot have that kind of breakdown
03:28so are they able to do it and kade may is only having one game under his belt as a
03:32detroit lion
03:32but fortunately he's got a ton of games as center in this league he knows how to recognize defenses as
03:39well and i'm sure that that they've spent an inordinate amount of time looking at tape and
03:44trying to recognize what's coming in from where kang what do you think we're going to be talking about
03:51monday i think we will be talking about lions defense and their inability to contain a mobile
03:59quarterback now i'm not saying that's going to make the lions lose i'm not saying that the lines
04:04are going to win either i'm just saying it's going to be a thing where we bring up again because
04:08it
04:08seems to happen all the time when the lines face a mobile quarterback how he could be elusive that
04:13doesn't necessarily mean he's going to run for 40 yard touchdowns or anything like that but the fact
04:16that he can get out of pressure's way you know like he's going to be a problem exactly like the
04:21lions actually have a very good front four they apply a lot of pressure even if they're not getting
04:25sacks is kyler murray going to be too elusive though where when the coverage breaks down plays break
04:31off justin jefferson goes with an out route or goes up the field instead of his out route and kyler
04:37murray finds him that's what i'm worried about and i think that's going to be an issue for the lions
04:42like i said i'm not saying the lions are going to lose the game necessarily but i think that's
04:47going to be something we're going to be talking about again because it always seems to happen to
04:50the lions when a quarterback is just you can extend the play exactly and so i feel like it's
04:54going to come up and jefferson's a guy that you do not want to play extended for no way and
04:59yet
04:59the vikings have not done anything offensively this year to really speak of and even though kyler
05:05murray is back i mean he's i think he's got three touchdowns and two picks on the season he just
05:09hasn't done much i'll give you something else i really think we're going to be talking about
05:13monday it's going to be the trade deadline and who they need to add based on what we saw in
05:19recency bias against the vikings which very much be it could very well be well they need to get
05:24another pass rusher because they couldn't get home on kyler murray or it's going to be we got to have
05:29a linebacker that can cover the tight end because tj hockinson got off or it's going to be we've got
05:34to
05:34do whatever it takes to get a top corner because justin chefferson got loose i'll make a correction
05:40to here golf turned it over five times he had three lost fumbles against the vikings last year
05:47in the same game oh wow it was the same game the christmas day game was an absolute disaster
05:52he threw two picks he had three fumbles all of them lost and jameer gibbs lost a fumble there were
05:58six turnovers in that game six they have to protect off i feel like we should go back uh
06:04and re-interview him from tuesday say hey you know um turn the ball over quite
06:10how do you stop that two four eight five three nine 97 97 let's go to robert in white lake
06:16hello robert
06:17hey good afternoon guys love your show thank you hey um i think with dylan larkin i think you know
06:24he's
06:2430 years old average hockey player plays 33 34 he just doesn't like this in his career he's proven
06:30to be a character guy for the red wings for the olympic team he's highly thought of throughout the
06:36league and respected for his play and his work ethic i just think he doesn't want to be around
06:41steve eisenman whether he's around a little or a lot and he doesn't want to go from a ground up
06:45rebuild he just wants to live the last of his career which anyone would do and you know just because
06:51he's an athlete doesn't mean you know we a lot of people would just walk out of a job or
06:55give their
06:56notice if they didn't enjoy where they were at and i just think he the best that he could wouldn't
07:01everything came to a head you know this really goes back to 2018 where him and eisenman had issues
07:06and he's just in a different phase and wants to enjoy where he's at and wants to win he wants
07:11to
07:11win right now at the peak of his career and i don't think there's any harm in that and i
07:15think he's
07:15them pretty respectful of the team his teammates and also eisenman under a shitty condo shouldn't
07:20say that um look i don't think anybody would uh i i'm some people are mad that he wanted to
07:29trade
07:29at all okay i think objectively looking at the current red wing situation it's easy to see why
07:37a player might want out and why a player might be frustrated especially a player that went public
07:43with hey it would have been nice if we'd done something at the deadline and then the management
07:47comes back and says something and even though that management isn't here anymore how we got to the
07:53point where he wanted to be traded i'm disappointed he didn't want to tough it out but i don't think
07:57there's a whole lot of like shock in that because people in general are mad at the red wings i
08:04think
08:04the whole thing took a turn yesterday that when larkin said well when his agent said dylan's had enough
08:10let me get there a direct quote we believe he's been very professional cooperative through the
08:14process yeah dylan's had enough of the situation okay right well the other thing that started this
08:21whole thing off six months ago or wherever it was is larkin asking for the trade is it a got
08:28out that
08:28he asked for the trade you know and who knows where that was leaked we don't know we don't know
08:33where
08:33it was who leaked it whether it was dylan side red wing side or some other team may have leaked
08:38it
08:39i don't know but this thing wasn't kept under wraps and had it been kept under wraps would it
08:45have been easier to make get a deal done with one of those three teams i don't know i mean
08:49because
08:49the red wings still have the same attitude about this whole thing that they want a player right now
08:54that's going to contribute as opposed to prospects and draft capital it seems like this thing is just
08:59it was destined to to drag on feedback regarding the lines from an unnamed texter i feel like dan
09:06campbell's gonna go full george costanza once he runs gibbs into the ground and we don't have him
09:12at full strength or at all in the playoffs was that wrong should i have not done that those are
09:18funny
09:19quotes um i don't know what you're supposed to do right i when i i've talked about this with coaches
09:25over the years about preserving players and most coaches look at me like i'm crazy they do they're
09:33like no we've got a guy we're gonna ride the guy like what are you talking about and it's different
09:41in college and it isn't a pro i know so the thing with gibbs is like you know we played
09:45the sound
09:45earlier pet sing you know it's a fine line all this stuff it's so intoxicating to have a player like
09:50jameer gibbs you do want him on the field at all times i don't think people realize he's an eraser
09:56when the when the offensive lineman miss a block yeah and he able to make that guy miss though and
10:00then go for 5 10 15 20 yards it goes like that should have been a loss and the only
10:06reason it
10:06wasn't a loss because you have jameer gibbs now i don't want to telegraph plays or anything but this
10:11might be a game where you're like hey if it's obvious you need a pass pro put in vaki you
10:16know
10:16that's less hits for gibbs to have to take because he can't just run the ball all the time and
10:20pick up
10:20every single blitz he's gonna wear down i think i saw a stat and i don't know where to find
10:25it um
10:26and and so don't quote me on this so i might be wrong that he was in pass protection jameer
10:31gibbs was in pass protection 23 times against green bay
10:36and so between all the carries add on that and it is a lot of wear and tear for the
10:43first time all year
10:44he was on the injury report right i know he was said he was surprised but he had a little
10:48shoulder sting or whatever it was like he's you know we're getting into like the middle of the
10:51season here and yet probably the most damage he did was when he tried to fall down at the end
10:55of
10:55the game right by himself doesn't want to fall down my apologies he was pass blocking 15 times
11:00against minnesota so there you go 248-539-9797 it's karson anderson 97-1
11:09one
11:09you
