Changemaker for Sustainable Agribusiness, Responsible Land Stewardship and Agricultural Innovation (Australia)

______

Transforming Agribusiness Through Long-Term Leadership

Troy Setter is recognised for his leadership in Australian and international agribusiness, advancing agricultural productivity, responsible land management and the long-term resilience of food and fibre production systems. As Chief Executive Officer and Director of Consolidated Pastoral Company (CPC), he has guided the development of one of Australia's largest integrated agribusinesses, with substantial operations and interests across Australia and Indonesia.

Since joining CPC in 2014, Troy has led the transformation of the company from a traditional cattle enterprise into a diversified agricultural business spanning cattle, sheep, goats, cropping and natural capital initiatives. This strategic evolution reflects an understanding that modern agriculture must respond to interconnected challenges: food security, environmental sustainability, changing market conditions, community wellbeing and the responsible management of natural resources.

Under his leadership, CPC has continued to develop its agricultural operations while pursuing approaches that balance commercial performance with environmental stewardship and long-term landscape sustainability.

______

Advancing Sustainable Food and Fibre Production

CPC's extensive landholdings and agricultural operations place it within an important part of the food and fibre supply chain. The company manages large-scale pastoral properties and livestock operations, alongside cropping activities, supporting production systems that serve domestic and international markets.

Troy's professional experience spans livestock and cropping production, processing, marketing, logistics and land management. Supported by a Bachelor of Rural Science from the University of New England, his career reflects a practical and multidisciplinary understanding of the agricultural sector, from primary production to market access and supply-chain operations.

00:01The speech for Troy Setter. Good evening and thank you to the Icons of Change International
00:08Awards for this recognition. I'm deeply honoured to accept this award and to be included alongside
00:14so many individuals and organisations who are making a positive difference in their
00:19communities and industries. My name is Troy Setter and I'm the CEO and Director of Consolidated
00:26Pastoral Company or CPC, one of Australia's and Indonesia's largest agribusinesses. For
00:33more than a decade I've had the privilege of leading CPC, a business that produces food
00:38and fibre for millions of people, while stewarding some of the world's most unique landscapes,
00:44working with people and communities that depend upon them. When people think about sustainable
00:50development they often think about governments, charities or environmental groups, but I believe
00:55sustainable development is also shaped by the everyday decisions made by businesses, community
01:01organisations and individuals. In agriculture, sustainability is not a separate project, it's
01:08fundamental to our success and our responsibility. Every day we make decisions about how we care
01:14for land, water, animals and people. We invest in improving productivity whilst reducing environmental
01:21impacts. We work to strengthen animal welfare outcomes, support regional communities and create
01:27opportunities for future generations. And we strive to ensure that the food we produce contributes
01:34to feeding a growing global population in a responsible and sustainable way. Throughout my career I've been
01:41fortunate to contribute not only through my executive leadership roles but also through service to a number of
01:47industry and community organisations. These experiences have reinforced an important lesson. Meaningful progress occurs
01:56when people work together toward a common purpose. No single organisation, industry or country or person can solve the
02:05changes of sustainability alone. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals provide a framework that reminds us of this
02:14this interconnectedness. Whether we focus on food security, climate, resilience, economic opportunity, education,
02:22community wellbeing or partnerships, our actions are often contributing to multiple positive outcomes at once.
02:30What inspires me about the 2026 theme is a resignation that takes impact in many forms. Not anyone sees themselves
02:41as a volunteer or a changemaker, yet every time we
02:44take a day around the world, people are giving their time, sharing their experiences, supporting their communities and helping others
02:50succeed.
02:51These could be farm managers mentoring young staff, researchers advancing knowledge, community leaders supporting families,
03:00business leaders creating jobs and investing for the future, teachers, healthcare workers, conservationists, volunteers and countless others who quietly contribute
03:10to something bigger than themselves.
03:12These collective efforts are what drive lasting change. As we move closer to 2030, I believe we all have a
03:20role to play.
03:21For those in business, sustainability should not be viewed as a trade off. It should be viewed as an opportunity
03:27to create long term value while contributing to stronger communities and a healthier environment.
03:32For individuals, meaningful impact often begins with small actions, supporting community organisations, mentoring others, sharing knowledge, volunteering your time or
03:45simply leading with integrity that can create a ripple effect that extends far beyond what we all can see.
03:51I'm absolutely optimistic about the future because I see examples of it every day across agriculture, industry and communities.
04:00There are remarkable people working together to solve problems, innovate and create positive outcomes.
04:05Thank you again to the organisers of the Icons of Change International Awards for this honour.
04:11I accept it on behalf of the many colleagues, partners, industry leaders, community members who I have worked alongside throughout
04:19my journey,
04:20but especially the team at CPC and the HANS family.
04:24Together we can continue building a more sustainable, resilient and prosperous future for generations to come.
