00:00We got Texas, Mississippi State today in Austin.
00:02What do you like here?
00:04Yeah, this is just such an interesting spot, man.
00:07And we'll get a little bit more into the Miss State side of things.
00:09But for Texas, and I think one of the reasons they deserve the top billing
00:13is let's be very real about it.
00:16They played Ole Miss last week, and Arch's job was on the line.
00:22Sark told us that.
00:24And I don't know.
00:26Look, maybe I should probably level set for a second.
00:32I'm not saying that if I were in charge of USC, I would fire Lincoln Riley.
00:36And I'm not saying that if I were in charge of Texas, I would fire Sark.
00:40I'm not saying that.
00:41What I'm saying is these schools have a lot of pressure to win.
00:47And these coaches have a lot of pressure to win.
00:50And expectations are set before every season.
00:53And for USC, the expectation since Lincoln has been there
00:56is to compete for a playoff spot.
00:59And I don't know if they've done that on a regular basis with Lincoln.
01:02And for Sark, the expectation has been to not just make the playoffs.
01:08The expectation this year was to be one of the very best teams in college football.
01:12One of the very, very best teams in college football.
01:16And they beat Ohio State.
01:19Nobody left the game thinking that was true.
01:22They blew double-digit leads in consecutive games against OU, who they are obviously better
01:30than, and Florida, who had a backup quarterback.
01:34And it's not like they're like, no, no, no, we found something in Jones.
01:37They immediately gave the job back to Philo.
01:39Okay?
01:41Immediately gave it back.
01:42Like, couldn't give it back to him quicker, in fact.
01:44Like, Jones made the winning play.
01:46Like, an awesome, and they were like, don't matter, don't care, get Philo the ball.
01:52So, at the end of the day, Texas now plays every game with their backup against the wall.
01:58And I'd listen to an argument that if Sark goes 8-4 this year, I don't want to hear about
02:03the hard schedule.
02:04Well, that'd be one of the most unacceptable results in football.
02:09So, so, that is why when you go and get Texas, whether they're laying 2 or 20, it is a
02:17big deal.
02:18Because it is Arch Manning, and it is Sark, and it is a spot that they have to have.
02:24Also, they are the most popular team in the country that nobody actually wants to bet.
02:30That is the one of the more fat, like, I, Texas, every week feels like the, if you're betting
02:39them, you're sharp for, right?
02:41Like, nobody ever actually wants to bet Texas.
02:44So, they are incredibly fascinating to me, Dave.
02:49They are.
02:50I'm going to make two points here based on what you said.
02:52First off, they're laying 18 and a half, 20 and a half, whatever it is.
02:56Because it'd be like a bad financial advisor giving out really horrible advice on the stock
03:01market by saying, go lay this number with Texas.
03:04I'm not saying they don't cover, because Mississippi State's missing their quarterback, and we saw
03:07what happened versus LSU.
03:09But I just, I, I'm not in the business of being paid to do this show to give out bad
03:13advice,
03:14and laying 20 points with Texas seems to be, like, something that would put me in jail
03:18for, you know, for financial error.
03:20That said, I wanted to go back to Sark, Lincoln, Riley.
03:24I'm going to tie the two together.
03:25You know where I stand on the 2014 playoff.
03:28I'm all, I don't want anything to do with it.
03:30I want to go back to the BCS days.
03:31You're kind of on the fence, and for good reasons.
03:34You've stayed in both cases.
03:35The one, the one, the one silver lining, and the one thing that I think is positive about
03:41the 2014 playoff is I actually think it saves these guys jobs, and you won't see the coaching
03:47carousel that you used to saying.
03:49To get rid of Sark, to get rid of Lincoln, Riley will cost these teams a fortune when you
03:54know with those two guys as your head coach, come hell or high water, these two teams are
03:59making a 2014 playoff every single year, like clockwork.
04:04Maybe it gets close, and they're on the bubble.
04:06They're making a 2014 playoff, and you're paying these guys a fortune.
04:10You talked about how much pressure is on them.
04:12Texas may not make a 12-team playoff.
04:15USC may not make a 12-team playoff.
04:16They're considering firing their coaches.
04:18I think the 2014 playoff saves their jobs, because you're like, you know what, we're
04:22going to make it anyway.
04:23Who are we going to get that's better?
04:24Why are we going to do the buyout?
04:25And I think making this back to the Texas conversation versus Mississippi State situation, don't be
04:31surprised if the guy who's in charge in Austin decides, you know, Arch just wasn't my guy.
04:38Like, we went to back-to-back college football semifinals in the 14 playoff.
04:42I get this Arch guy that comes with all these expectations, is the number one crew in the
04:47country, and has the same DNA as two Hall of Famers, and just wasn't my guy.
04:52Let me go get my guy, Sark.
04:55Let me go get my guy, and I'll win national titles in Texas.
04:58Don't be surprised if he throws Arch right under the bus and says, I need someone else
05:02to lead this Texas team, because Arch hasn't gotten it done, and we've seen Sark.
05:07Sark has gone to two semifinals in the old college football era.
05:12So we've seen him do it at Texas.
05:14We haven't seen him do it with Arch.
05:15Not that Quinn Ewers is any good, but we've seen it.
