00:00One from 42 to win the game in overtime.
00:032.58 left.
00:06Kicks away.
00:07It's right down the middle.
00:09The kick is good.
00:11The Cardinals win.
00:13What in the world did we just witness as the Arizona Cardinals,
00:18the boogeyman team, and they still are,
00:21find a way to put up 20 points in the fourth quarter,
00:23and the Cowboys lose 33-30 in overtime.
00:28This fourth quarter started with a Dak Prescott touchdown run
00:32to put the Cowboys up two scores.
00:35Tyler Algier then comes into the game.
00:38Gardner Minshew, they change at quarterback here at the end of the third quarter,
00:41and this really changed the entirety of the Arizona offense, Brian.
00:45Yeah, sure did.
00:45It was a galloping 63-yard touchdown run for Algier.
00:50Dak and the Cowboys end up going down the field scoring that touchdown,
00:54but the first play that Arizona has on offense,
00:57it's 52 yards with Algier again to the Dallas 20.
01:01He caps off that drive with a five-yard touchdown run.
01:05So here come the Cardinals.
01:07All of a sudden this offense has woken up.
01:09It's 24-17.
01:11Dallas gets the ball back.
01:12They say, okay, here's 15 plays, 56 yards, 653.
01:17Milk clock.
01:18This is all right.
01:19Yeah.
01:19But what happens, the drive stalls, okay?
01:22It is third and 11.
01:24You're in the red zone at the Arizona 17-yard line.
01:27Dak tries to throw to CeeDee Lamb.
01:29It's incomplete.
01:29They have to settle for a 35-yard field goal.
01:33Yeah, field goal.
01:33Okay?
01:34Arizona right down the field again.
01:36Six plays, 58 seconds, a minute 43.
01:39Bang.
01:40Here's a touchdown, 14 yards.
01:42Minshew finding McBride, who you said all week, best receiver on the team.
01:47He's uncovered for 14 yards.
01:50There's a touchdown.
01:51Here you go, boys.
01:52It's 30.
01:52It's 27-24.
01:54Dallas does find a way to go ahead and get another field goal.
01:58But it wasn't enough.
01:59As Arizona, after they got the onside kick, you're thinking that should be the game.
02:03Like Ryan Flannoy gets you set up at the 25-yard line with 2-11 left.
02:08Yeah.
02:08You think that should be it, right?
02:10It wasn't.
02:11They go right down the field again like a hot knife through butter.
02:16In three plays, or eight plays, 80 yards, a minute and three seconds.
02:20A minute and three seconds they hit Michael Wilson.
02:22Somehow Chad Ryland misses the extra point.
02:25You go to overtime.
02:26Cowboys defense.
02:27Here you go.
02:28They make a big stop.
02:29They get three and out.
02:30Cowboys offense, what do you do?
02:32You come out.
02:33Three plays.
02:34Two-yard run.
02:35Incompletion.
02:35And then Josh Schwett, who did nothing all game, beats Tyler Guyton for a sack of seven
02:42yards on Dak Prescott.
02:43They punted away.
02:44And at that very moment, I think everybody in the building knew they're about to lose
02:49this football game.
02:50And sure enough, Tyler Algier with a big run.
02:53They run it down.
02:54They get the game-winning field goal from 42 out.
02:56The Cowboys went from a double-digit lead and seemingly having this one in the bag to
03:02now three and five, one and three at home, and handed the Arizona Cardinals their third
03:06victory.
03:07Yeah, just a great decision by a first-year head coach in Arizona.
03:12When you look at Mike LaFleur and what he was able to do, they're not getting anything
03:17really done with Preset.
03:18He might have gotten a little banged up.
03:20You know, there were some times where he took some hits.
03:22He's been taking hits all year.
03:24But to put Gardner Minshew in the lineup, it gave them some life.
03:32And really, Tyler Algier, as a running back, gave them some life.
03:36He did.
03:37And so all of a sudden now, they're hitting those chunk runs.
03:41They're making some plays.
03:42Their two-minute drive to tie the game, even potentially to win it, was a thing of beauty.
03:48No pressure.
03:49Some big throws.
03:50Those, you know, just really, really well done on their part.
03:55You know, you feel like, though, that maybe when Dallas, you know, had the opportunity where
04:00they got, you know, the three and out, only gave up one yard, you're thinking, okay, here's
04:04where all the things that happened in that fourth quarter are now going to, you know, go away.
04:10They're going to find a way to win this game.
04:12They're going to figure out, you know, okay, what do we have to do defensively?
04:15But Dallas's inability to get any yards on that, to lose yards and to have to punt, and
04:21that just, once again, just put that wore-out defense back out there again.
04:26And, you know, it just wasn't good enough there, you know, to make another stop.
04:32But Algier running the ball.
04:35Gardner Minshew coming into the game and doing what he was able to do.
04:38And you mentioned Dallas's inability to run the football was really big.
04:43It looked like, to me, watching Williams play, it looked like the Monday night game took a lot
04:48out of him in this football game.
04:50I didn't see the same type of attacking the line of script.
04:54And Arizona, you know, they've been giving up some yards.
04:57They have.
04:57About 4.7 a carry.
04:59But, man, they did a great job of shutting down this Dallas rushing attack.
05:05They tried to be committed to it.
05:07They tried to – it just wasn't successful.
05:09But Williams did not look like the same ball carrier this afternoon that he did on Monday night.
05:14No, 24 carries, 56 yards for 2.3.
05:18A carry.
05:19Cowboys with 93 yards overall on the ground.
05:21Their long run of the game was a Dak Prescott 7-yard run.
05:25Yeah, that was trouble.
05:26So it was tough sledding on the ground.
05:28Zach Wolchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout.
05:30Brian brought us here to the official postgame show.
05:32Brought to you by Pepsi.
05:33Football's back.
05:34Tailgating deserves Pepsi.
05:35And, of course, AT&T connecting changes everything as we hang out here in the Miller Lite Field Club.
05:40But there's so many different moments, and I get it.
05:43Like, I was listening to Brad there as he closed it.
05:45Your defense wasn't good enough.
05:47No.
05:47Your defense certainly wasn't in the fourth quarter specifically.
05:51I mean, if you look at it here, they get the touchdown to end the third, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown in
05:58the fourth quarter.
05:59They start three touchdowns.
06:00But here, we sit here in the postgame show, and a reoccurring theme is, well, you know your defense isn't
06:08any good.
06:08You've got to win it with your offense.
06:10Right.
06:10You can't settle for a field goal on a 15-play, 56-yard drive.
06:15You can't settle for a field goal when Ryan Flannoy gets you the ball at the 25-yard line.
06:19Run the damn ball out.
06:21Run the game out.
06:21Right.
06:22Get a first down.
06:22Win it.
06:23If your offense is that good, win it with your offense.
06:26And then in the first half, the offense did diddly-poo.
06:29Yeah.
06:30Turnover on downs.
06:31Punt.
06:31They did score the touchdown, thank goodness, on the short field after your defense got them a turnover, a Shamar
06:37James interception.
06:38Your defense played the best first half we'd seen them play all year long.
06:43Yet, they find a way to have a very team loss.
06:45Your offense failed you for the most part in the first half of this game.
06:49And then your defense showed up again after three quarters, really, or two and a half, if you want to
06:54say, of playing really sound football and then just ran out of gas in the fourth.
06:59Yeah.
06:59It was, you know, it was just so evident, though, how all year long they get with the five sacks.
07:08Five sacks.
07:08Two first turnovers.
07:10But when you needed the pressure on the two-minute drive or the drive to try and win the game
07:15that Arizona had, you didn't get close.
07:18And, you know, your coverage wasn't good enough.
07:21You know, Minshew did a nice job.
07:22I give them a lot of credit for, you know, for him to come into the game basically in the
07:27fourth.
07:28And, you know, Arizona wasn't doing anything really on offense.
07:31No.
07:31To affect you at all.
07:32But for him to go 17 of 23 for $1.88, and then you talk about with Wilson, they, you
07:38know, we were so worried about the tight end, you know, with that.
07:43And it ends up being that Wilson has the eight receptions for 111 yards.
07:48The tight end did get open for the one touchdown, though.
07:51Coverage somehow broke there.
07:53There's things we're going to look at here, the pass rush, the coverage, the communications.
07:58There's a lot of things that's going to be unpacking here in the next couple of days about how they
08:03completely fell apart there in the second half.
08:06Yeah.
08:06And it's not like, okay, you can pick and choose.
08:08But you're right.
08:08This is really a team loss.
08:10This is a team loss.
08:10Blame lies on both sides.
08:11Like 817, Texans, stop blaming the offense.
08:13To hell with that.
08:14Yeah.
08:15They had 24 yards on 11 offensive plays in the first quarter.
08:19That's not good enough.
08:20That's not going to do it.
08:21And then the mismanagement right before the half.
08:24You had two chances to add points before the half.
08:28And you failed with both of them.
08:29Got a big kickoff return, negative plays.
08:32Did nothing with it.
08:33Did nothing with that.
08:33Then your defense stops them again.
08:35So you get the ball back.
08:37And ultimately, what do they do?
08:38They trot Brandon Aubrey out there for a 61-yard field goal.
08:42And unfortunately, he misses it.
08:43But you had a timeout in your back pocket.
08:45Sure.
08:46Could you have been a little bit more aggressive if you wanted to get Brandon Aubrey closer?
08:49I was wondering, you know, we lean on Brad Aubrey so much.
08:53And it's like immediately you get to midfield and you feel like, oh, it's an automatic field goal.
08:58I would have personally tried to get him at least 8 to 10 more yards and make it a little
09:03bit easier kick for him.
09:04He makes him from 60.
09:06That's not a problem.
09:07When you miss, and it's very clear, though, that they were committed to, hey, we're going to run the ball
09:13and just try and make it a 60-yard field goal, that, to me, I had a little problem with.
09:17Yeah.
09:18I mean, I think you missed opportunities for points in several different moments throughout the game.
09:23And then your defense showed up and could not stop Gardner Minshew and really Tyler Algier on the ground.
09:29I mean, I think they had, what, 130-plus yards on the ground in the second half alone?
09:32Yeah.
09:33Absolutely insanity.
09:34Well, Algier ended up with 11 carries for $1.47.
09:38You know, he had the long run of that.
09:39Yeah, the 62-yarder and then another super long one that set him up down at the Cowboy 20-yard
09:44line.
09:44It was wild.
09:47I mean, the fact that we're sitting here when you're up double-digit scores late in the fourth quarter like
09:52that, again, it is rather, it shouldn't be shocking.
09:56But it is.
09:57With this football team, it is.
09:58I mean, you're up 27-17 with .354 in the fourth.
10:02And then there's the onside kick, you recover it.
10:05That should have been it.
10:06With 2-11 left, that should have been it.
10:08You're at the Arizona 25-yard line.
10:10Right.
10:10But somehow, hey, the NFL's a strange lady, as you always say, Brian.
10:13I always say it, yep.
