00:0033-30, Cardinals come back and get an overtime victory as they find a way to erase a two-score
00:08Cowboy lead.
00:09They force OT, and Chad Ryland with the game winner as Dallas falls to 3-5 on the year.
00:15Zach Wolchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout, Brian Broadus, the official Pepsi postgame show of your Dallas Cowboys
00:20as we hang out here in the Miller Lite Field Club.
00:22We'll hear from Coach coming up in a little bit. We'll get to your calls and texts right now.
00:26We'll join by our Cowboys insider, Bobby Beltz, as you can catch him on the morning show, Sean and RJ,
00:326 to 10 a.m. on the flagship, 105.3 The Fan.
00:34Bobby, I know you were in the strum there with Jerry. What were your takeaways?
00:38I mean, that was about the quietest walk to the locker room I think I've ever heard, like road or
00:45home, either way.
00:46I mean, nobody was talking.
00:47And then when Jerry stepped out there, I mean, clearly seemed sort of shell-shocked.
00:54And because it's one of those things where, I mean, you just get run at the end of the game.
00:58And it's Jerry had talked about, you know, we were so much in control for the most part the first
01:05three quarters
01:05to then just have it completely flip seemed pretty stunning to him.
01:09Now, he did call it basically an across-the-board failure that he essentially had said that this was a
01:16failure of everybody
01:18and everybody's hand in it, and he said, including his own, he said, just the whole show right now is
01:23failing.
01:24And when it got specifically drilled down on Schottenheimer at one point, he had said,
01:29a lot of people let Brian down today, too.
01:31So I don't know where he's going to shift it to today.
01:35He seems pretty just stunned by the whole thing.
01:40And it's a stunning loss.
01:42The only thing not stunning about it is that it is the Arizona Cardinals,
01:45and this has been happening to them for some reason, the weird Arizona voodoo over the last several years.
01:52Yeah, we just broke it down where I think a lot of the people, you look at the defense,
01:57and certainly in the fourth quarter, you allow three touchdown drives.
02:00There's really four straight.
02:01They give up 20 points.
02:03Luckily, you were fortunate to have a chance to play for overtime with the missed PAT,
02:07but they seem to really be struggling for everything on offense throughout this game, Bobby.
02:11Yeah, they couldn't run the ball.
02:13Dak even, I mean, we were sitting there talking about it in the press box at one point.
02:16He was like 14 of 16 or something.
02:18We're like, doesn't it feel like he has like 20 incompletions today?
02:21This doesn't feel like he's playing at that level.
02:24They averaged three and a half yards per play today.
02:26And when it came down to it the fourth quarter, I don't know if it was wearing down.
02:29If they came up with more answers, we'll find out when we get a chance to look at the tape
02:33tomorrow.
02:34But, I mean, Dallas couldn't protect him anymore.
02:37He was under some heat a lot of the game.
02:39But, man, he was getting – like there was a lot of pressure on him like that, I mean, in
02:45the fourth quarter.
02:46And so I think just the inability to protect the – and some of that maybe on Dak for his
02:50own checks
02:51at the line of scrimmage and dealing with the blitz.
02:53We'll have to see.
02:54But the inability to protect, the inability to do anything in the run game
02:58and kind of bash your head against a wall.
03:00And then, obviously, the defense not coming up with plays.
03:03They reverted back to the Dallas defense of old as soon as Tyler Algier touched the ball.
03:08Heading into that first touchdown by Algier, they had 139 yards of offense.
03:12Those two drives, Algier had 141 yards himself.
03:14It sucks because there was so much positive until that point.
03:17Yeah.
03:18And Christie had told us in the pregame, hey, look for some different things.
03:21They had done some of the same type of we're putting seven and eight,
03:24crowding the line of scrimmage, and then you're not sure who's actually rushing, who's dropping.
03:27But some of the things that have been their offensive Achilles heel, they added and implemented.
03:31It seemed like, just from looking at this without going back at the tape,
03:34they're on their own defense, and the pressure was working.
03:36Five sacks, two turnovers.
03:38If we say that's what the Dallas defense is going to do, you're saying,
03:40hell yeah, Cowboys are going to win this football game.
03:42But is it all totally undone because of the way this one ended
03:45and how poor the defense was at closing it out?
03:47Yes.
03:48It's all undone.
03:49Like, I mean, you can talk about things you can build on if you want,
03:51but in terms of, you know, trying to take a silver lining out of it,
03:54this is not a silver lining game today.
03:56This is a bad thing that happened.
03:58And they are all, I think, jarred.
04:01But we were sitting out there, we were trying to talk about this
04:03and figure out what's a similar collapse that's occurred here at AT&T Stadium.
04:07And the only one I came up with was the Matt Flynn game years ago against the Packers.
04:11Yeah.
04:12And everybody in the hall that we were talking it over was just like, no, this is worse.
04:15This is worse than the Flynn game.
04:17Yeah.
04:17Yeah, Bobby, it appears there's a couple of things it looked like.
04:20It looked like Williams, you know, Zach and I were talking about it.
04:22It appeared that Williams, the Monday night game took a lot out of him.
04:26You know, he didn't look the same type of attacking back that we saw in that Philadelphia game.
04:32You know, that's something that we, you know, need to kind of get a handle on.
04:36At the end of the game, you could see that every hit, every time he was getting up,
04:40it was a little bit harder for him to do.
04:44I also want to say this, though.
04:46Jerry Jones came on our radio station and said, we're going to win because of the offense.
04:52Our best defense is our offense.
04:55You know, and today I kind of felt like that in the second half when they needed to make some
05:02plays,
05:03you know, the offense just not getting it done.
05:07I mean, way too late getting back over, you know, you had a big play call back to Pickens for
05:13a holding call.
05:14You know, there was things, we know this offense, or this defense is going to have issues.
05:20We just know it.
05:22But I felt like today, offensively, there were things in the second half that let this team down
05:29and really was a big contributor to why.
05:33You actually get a stop after all that nonsense.
05:37After four straight touchdowns, you get a stop and have a chance just to go kick a field goal.
05:43Just go get 20 yards and you could go win this football game.
05:46And they couldn't.
05:47And they couldn't do that.
05:48And I think this is where Jerry Jones is probably saying, hey, our defense is only going to be as
05:53good as our offense.
05:54I kind of look at that today as a problem.
05:56Yeah, because, I mean, it is one of those things where you felt like if you could have sustained a
05:59couple more drives,
06:00maybe you're not giving up some of those longer drives there at the end of the third and end of
06:06the fourth.
06:06Maybe you're able to put this game away a little bit easier.
06:10They just, they, they were, it was ugly to begin with.
06:13The first three quarters weren't even great offensively.
06:15They were ugly.
06:16You just needed to win this game somehow.
06:18Yeah.
06:18With all the nonsense and ugliness you talk about, you just needed to find a way to win it.
06:25Yeah, and that's the thing, they oftentimes over the last two years, they don't find ways to win games and
06:33they find ways to lose them.
06:35And they find ways to lose games they should not.
06:38And there's already, you've put at least two on the board this year, this one in Baltimore.
06:42Right.
06:43And then, I mean, Tampa's a whole other argument, but really you didn't even get in a position to make
06:47a mistake there at the end.
06:48You were just, you lost.
06:50And the football gods are like, they give you a missed extra point, you know, and they, and they get
06:56you.
06:56And then all of a sudden your defense hasn't done anything and they get a stop.
07:01Three plays, one yard.
07:03Yep.
07:03And now you're like, you, you know, you're thinking all they have to do, just get it in field goal
07:08range.
07:08Let Aubrey make a 57 yard field goal.
07:11And this thing, we could all go home and we can work on the, all the things, all the problems.
07:15It's the Gotti offense.
07:16They couldn't even do that.
07:18But they couldn't even do that.
07:20They couldn't come up with three plays to even get themselves a chance to kick a field goal.
07:26They've got some bad teams ahead on the schedule.
07:28Indy's one of them next week.
07:29Indy looks like they're going to do it.
07:30They're a bad team right now.
07:31Yeah.
07:31Yeah.
07:32But no, that's, that's what I'm saying is that there is not a certain victory that exists on this schedule
07:36for this team.
07:37No.
07:37Absolutely.
07:38Nowhere.
07:38It does not matter who they're playing.
07:40They are, they're just unable to execute in high leverage moments.
07:44They don't do it.
07:45No.
07:46Not at all.
07:46And the whole conversation's been about the deadline, right?
07:50The trade deadline.
07:51Josh Swett makes a big sack.
07:53Are you at the point where you don't even want to put any more resources into this right now?
07:57Probably not.
07:59Because, like, it's not a sell mode.
08:01You can't really sell in the NFL the way you sell in baseball or some of the other stuff.
08:05There's one player you might be able to.
08:06You could sell pickings if you're not going to use him.
08:09Yeah.
08:09I mean.
08:10And he was shut out in the first half.
08:11I mean, his usage is very bizarre.
08:12Yeah, I guess it just depends on how much teams look at that right now and go, we want that.
08:17In terms of we want to pay what it costs and what else would be comfortable giving up for it.
08:23It's just.
08:23The fact that you can't negotiate with him during the season also hurts you a little bit.
08:27Right.
08:27Yeah.
08:27And, I mean, it's just they've put themselves in an awful position.
08:31The whole team has.
08:32And, I mean, it's really going to sit, I would imagine, a lot of this week on Brian Schottenheimer.
08:38Mm-hmm.
08:40But, I mean, as a whole, there's also just the angle of, like, I don't know how you can just
08:45have so many bad missteps, like, individually as players, too, along the way.
08:52That just allow for these sort of things to happen.
08:54And that's ultimately you can say, all right, it's got to stop with the guy on top, the guy in
08:57charge, and so that's why he'll eat the most of it.
09:00But it's also, like, where'd your head go in the final quarter?
09:03Why does this happen late in games where it's just they go dark?
09:08Lights are on, nobody's home.
09:09And they just, they're not there.
09:11Yeah, you do pay your kicker, by the way, $7 million, right?
09:14He's, yeah, that's worth every penny it looks like.
09:18Yeah.
09:19Goodness, 33-30, Cowboys lose in overtime.
09:22Bobby, anything else before we let you out of here?
09:25I love you all.
09:26I love you more, man.
09:27Except this football team sometimes.
09:28I know.
09:28This is an absolute bummer.
09:30Halfway home.
09:31There he goes, Bobby Belt, our Cowboys insider, joining us here on the official postgame.
