A man sets steel beams for a living. Inches to spare, no do-over, he trusts his read and corrects the load as it swings. Real stakes, real skill.

His five-year-old is scared of the dark. He installs three nightlights and a camera that night. Problem solved, he thinks.

The boy still walks the hallway at eleven, past all that hardware, looking for his dad. The father has never once sat on that floor with him.

High-stakes work taught him to act fast and fix things. It did not teach him that some problems aren't fixed, they're sat with. Ten minutes on the floor would do more than any camera. He has never tried it.

This is bias for action: the instinct that makes you excellent at your job and absent in your house, because one rewards speed and the other requires stillness.
