00:00But the Commanders win a game 27-10. I don't want to say they had no business winning it.
00:05That's not fair. That's not true. They had every business winning it.
00:09They had no business playing like they did in the first quarter.
00:13That was, of all of the awful, terrible, ugly, disgusting, putrid, inane football that I've had to watch
00:21over the last 18 years covering this team, living here, being embedded with them for such a long time.
00:33And, of course, not every year have I been on the beat.
00:36My first year and a half here, I wasn't. I was working the baseball channel for SiriusXM.
00:43But I've always keenly followed the Redskins, Commanders, Washington football team, whatever, by any name.
00:51And, obviously, been heavily involved in the last 17 years.
00:57And that first quarter was as bad as I remember.
01:01Now, there have been other bad first quarters.
01:03I mean, the Monday Night Massacre with Michael Vick and going deep to Deshaun Jackson on the first play of
01:10the game,
01:10blowtorching Leron Landry, and I think the score was like 28-3 or something like that early in the second
01:17quarter
01:17or something like that. I'd have to look it up.
01:19I mean, that was really bad, too.
01:21But this was as atrocious a display of football as you can get.
01:28And while every one of us sitting there goes, well, they can't be this bad.
01:33They can't be this.
01:35They'll find a way to wake up.
01:37It's the Eagles.
01:39And the Eagles this year not only suck on special teams and not only suck on offense, but they're not
01:46very good on defense.
01:47Now, they're better on defense, but they're not very good on defense either.
01:53But yet, at some point, you had to go, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, how awful
02:00is this?
02:02Let me count thy ways.
02:04I ran out of fingers on two hands how awful they were.
02:12And yet, they won 27-10.
02:14And if you didn't see the game, right, or if you didn't care about the game, you'd be like, more
02:23if you didn't see the game.
02:24You'd be like, wait a second.
02:27Down 10-0?
02:28Nothing as awful of a first quarter as anybody around here can remember.
02:32How did they win 27-10?
02:34Well, the answer is the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely blow chunks.
02:41It's all there is to it.
02:43It's all there is to it.
02:44This is more about the Eagles being terrible, I got to be honest, than the Commanders being good.
02:51Now, the Commanders were good for stretches of the game last night.
02:56I'm not saying that they didn't have moments and stretches, but they're not still a good football team.
03:03Not even close.
03:04Are they capable?
03:06Yeah.
03:07But they're not a good football team.
03:09So, this was more about the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely stinking.
03:16Really, in all three phases, but I'll give that the defense was fairly good for, again, stretches.
03:24Not great.
03:26Fairly good.
03:27Eagles.
03:29Commanders' defense was pretty darn good for the entire game.
03:33We'll get to that.
03:35But first, three and out.
03:37The three biggest reasons why the Commanders won that game 27-10 last night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
03:45Number one, or first on the list of three.
03:49resiliency, character, integrity, hard work, belief, all of the adjectives that, as some of you like to call them, Sergeant
03:59Slogan, comes up with and preaches and believes and hammers and tells everybody in the media, the fan base, the
04:08team, the locker room, the building, what have you.
04:11All of that stuff, you know, whatever you want to call it.
04:18We've referred to it as word salad around here.
04:21We've referred to it as lip service around here.
04:25Whatever it's called.
04:27Sometimes, against the right opponent, that actually works out.
04:32That actually works out, and it did last night.
04:35They were down 10-0 and never gave up another point and won 27-10.
04:39Again, it was about as unpretty of a 27-10 victory as you're going to find in the division, but
04:46more on that later.
04:48Resiliency, character, integrity, belief, brotherhood, whatever, again, adjective you want to describe.
04:58Whatever slop Dan Quinn.
05:14I will say that, right?
05:17I will say that, right?
05:29So, first, second, on our three and out.
05:34The three biggest reasons why the commanders won last night.
05:39And that's because I think the quarterback became officially a leader and a dude last night.
05:51Now, we could talk about Jaden Daniels all we want, right?
05:55And stats and this throw and that throw.
05:57So, but when they were down 10-0 and then they fumbled, right?
06:02And down 10-0, he grabbed them.
06:07Not physically grabbed them, but he surrounded them.
06:12And he said what he had to say.
06:15And he barked what he had to bark.
06:17And he woke everybody up.
06:21And that was huge.
06:24Not to mention Jaden taking some hard hits, right?
06:29Some hard hits.
06:30One in the end zone.
06:32One where he comes down on his left elbow and brace.
06:36And I thought, and he kind of like grabbed at it and winced.
06:40He took the one where his wind gets knocked out and he's on the sidelines and he's kind of thrashing
06:47backwards.
06:48And they all come around.
06:49And he's fine.
06:51I mean, eventually he was fine.
06:54Jaden showed how tough he was.
06:56He's now completed how many straight games?
07:00One?
07:01Two?
07:01Not two?
07:02Not one?
07:04Not two?
07:05But tree.
07:07Tree.
07:08Like a big oak tree.
07:11Tree straight games.
07:13Three straight games.
07:15Jaden was toughest you-know-what last night.
07:19Whatever adjective you want to describe, he was tough.
07:24Mentally, emotionally, physically.
07:27And again, gathering those clowns on the sideline and waking their asses up.
07:31And basically pouring a cold bucket of water over them.
07:36Was everything you needed.
07:39Now, maybe it wouldn't have worked out the way it did if it was a better opponent.
07:43I don't know.
07:44But it worked out the way it did.
07:48So Jaden coming to shape as a leader.
07:55As a, hey man, get your head out of your ass!
08:01Type of personality?
08:04I'm good.
08:06I wanted to see more of that.
08:08I wanted to see more.
08:11Quite honestly, urine and vinegar.
08:15I don't know if we're allowed to say the P word.
08:17I think we are.
08:19You know what I'm getting at.
08:22I wanted to see a little more fire and brimstone.
08:26And we got it last night.
08:28And I wanted to see toughness.
08:30Not that we haven't seen it.
08:31But I wanted to see it again.
08:34When his team needed him the most.
08:37And I also wanted to see him throw the ball better.
08:39My goodness, was he terrible.
08:42At the beginning of that game.
08:43And for the first quarter.
08:45I know, I know, I know.
08:47I missed initially Traylon Burke slipping.
08:49I'm sorry.
08:50I was watching the flight of the ball.
08:52I was watching where it landed.
08:54The end of the play.
08:55You can't see everything.
08:57I'm sorry.
08:58J.P. Finley yelled at me.
08:59He had every right to yell at me.
09:00Because I said something on Twitter.
09:02That Jaden way overthrew Traylon Burks.
09:04He didn't.
09:05I mean, he did.
09:05But it was because Traylon Burks slipped out of his break.
09:09That being said.
09:12Jaden was not great statistically.
09:16Only threw for 217.
09:18One touchdown.
09:19Again, no picks.
09:21No terrible mistakes.
09:23Almost had his first interception of the year.
09:26On the five-yard defensive offsides penalty.
09:30That wiped it out by Jonathan Grenard.
09:32Boy, has he struggled this year.
09:36Almost had his first interception of the year.
09:39But it didn't count.
09:41And even though he had somehow a false start on the quarterback.
09:46Which occasionally, very occasionally, gets called.
09:49And even though it was a complete poop show in the first quarter.
09:53And Jaden was part of that.
09:54Not all his fault.
09:55I mean, he had the drop.
09:56Had the fumble by chip.
09:58Like, all of that.
09:59I got it.
10:00But there were some bad throws.
10:03There were some bad throws.
10:05And it was not looking good.
10:08Jaden stepped up when he had to step up.
10:11And that's what a leader does.
10:14That's what a leader does.
10:15That's what a maturing, third-year quarterback needs to do.
10:20Sometimes it's not always yelling and screaming and kicking over tables.
10:25And, you know, and making an ass clown out of yourself like Odell Beckham used to.
10:31Like, well, quite honestly, we saw the Jets last week, right?
10:36With Garrett Wilson and Geno Smith.
10:40Sort of.
10:40And we've seen it with Tom Brady before, right?
10:44Guys are fiery and in different ways.
10:46Jaden set the message, hit the note, and everything got better from there.
10:53Not great, but everything got better from there.
10:55And number one, or I should say number three on our three and out, the three biggest reasons,
11:01therefore the most important reason, why the commanders, because, well, three, third down,
11:08money down, you get it.
11:09You know football.
11:11The commanders on offense, defense, and special teams were not great, were not perfect,
11:21but they were good enough.
11:23They were good enough to win a game in all three phases against a desperate division opponent.
11:32Not a good division opponent, but a desperate division opponent.
11:36So, what do we say?
11:38Number one, right, was resiliency, character, bounce back, not giving up, believing in the brotherhood,
11:48all that nonsense.
11:50Number two was Jaden Daniels taking the bull by the horns.
11:54Tough, physical, mental, emotional, leader.
11:58Grabbing his guys on the sideline, waking them up.
12:01And then going out and doing his part, right?
12:04Not turning the ball over.
12:06Finding digs wide open.
12:08Couple of other great throws.
12:09Don't forget, he almost had, almost had a brilliant touchdown pass.
12:14To Chig Okonkwo in the corner of the end zone that Chig made another spectacular catch on.
12:20But was just out of balance.
12:22I mean, it was just another breathtaking catch.
12:25One of two on the night for Chig.
12:27So, number two there.
12:28And number one, an all-around, not great, all-around good enough effort in all three phases.
12:35Offense, defense, and special teams.
12:37When we come back, we'll get more into all three of those phases.
12:41You can join us as well.
12:42I know you don't have as much to yell about, as much to bitch about.
12:46But, like I said, enjoy it.
12:48Right?
12:48Because these are so precious.
12:50We all know they've won four games since early last October.
12:55Four.
12:56That mattered.
12:57Four.
12:58And last night was one of them.
13:00So, don't take these days for granted like you are the San Francisco 49ers or the L.A. Rams or,
13:08you know, a good team.
13:09Or a great team.
13:10Don't take these days for granted.
13:12Because you're not.
13:13There's only four in 13 months.
13:16Four.
13:17So, get on the horn and celebrate even if you're pissed.
13:21Even if...
13:22I just said that word.
13:24Even if you're upset.
13:26Even if you're salty about what you saw for a large stretch of time.
13:31It's okay.
13:32We can talk about it.
13:33We can hash it out.
13:34301-230-0980.
13:36301-230-0980.
13:37It is Rooster Radio just getting rocking and rolling here on a Victory Monday in the DMV.
13:43Stay with us.
