00:00um one of my favorite parts of the walk we got to share at cyprus earlier this week was
00:05looking at dr mckenzie's architectural touches and and knowing that you and your partner bill core
00:12are two of the best in the world at both creating original designs but also kind of refining and
00:18restoring classic courses when when you know we're standing on certain greens and you're saying like
00:23look at the spine right here this inspired some work i did somewhere else if you had a notebook
00:28whether it's it's a literal notebook or a metaphorical notebook where the sort of pieces
00:33of inspiration whether it's architects or places or holes that you feel like over the years have
00:39filled up you know you're it really informed your architectural approach well it really has i'm
00:45we're very much uh bill coor and i are great fans of dr mckenzie and you know later on his
00:54uh dr mckenzie was was joined by another great favorite of ours perry maxwell yes and uh perry
01:02maxwell did prairie dunes uh he did uh crystal downs but they were very simpatico in working with nature
01:11they they after all dr mckenzie was a camouflage artist in in the in the first world war and they
01:19retained the british army retained him um so he directly worked with nature and it's uncanny to me
01:28when i see the the actual piece of property and how it swings and moves uh how he worked all
01:36the holes
01:36in there in and it just it's seeming like he did not move a lot of material he let the
01:43character of the
01:45holes just reflect its immediate surroundings and the flashes and the bunkers that he built and and
01:53and the mounds they all fit they felt fit beautifully natural it you know it's so funny the tools that
02:01i
02:01think about when i think of dr mckenzie is 10 at augusta and six at cyprus where nobody would ever
02:07build
02:07that hole today with this massive elevation change in the rolls and the hills but just the way he worked
02:12with that land and created some some of the best holes you'll ever see it's just you can't replicate
02:18it dramatic dramatic you know actually uh you know in the number number k a case of augusta national
02:26number 10 dr mckenzie first built it when the first couple of years was a little bit short and perry
02:34maxwell
02:35pushed the green back on the hill wow with that later on with that little dip
02:39the front of the green there you can see remnants of a little green and a bunker in the front
02:44of the
02:44crane and then across on the hill that's where perry maxwell built the green so in its present state
02:52so that was one of the few changes that perry maxwell made that is so cool dr mckenzie but uh
03:00dr mckenzie will always be known as the natural architect the one that really worked with the land
03:08and and and no more yes he had work crews back then you know actually back then i think dr
03:18mckenzie was
03:19one of the very first to use a bulldozer interesting very very uh you can see pictures of it uh
03:30on a couple
03:31of the courses that he did and he probably you know he being the scott being a thrifty scott's probably
03:38said this is going to cost too much money
03:40you
