00:00I went to bed early last night because I didn't want to be disappointed before bed.
00:07And then I wake up and that's all I see is that kind of negativity because my team lost last
00:15night, big time.
00:16My team went down in flames.
00:19And for them to be on the outside looking in when I thought they were going to be in clear
00:23control,
00:24how could this happen to Ohio State?
00:26How in the world could this happen to the Buckeyes?
00:30I thought you were talking about something else.
00:31No, I mean, you saw it.
00:32The state of Ohio, there's a difference.
00:33You saw it.
00:34You saw it in the rankings.
00:35Clear as day.
00:36Not in.
00:37Yeah.
00:39What an upset.
00:40Clear as day, number 12, not in.
00:42That's clear, huh?
00:43I did not think that could happen in this state.
00:46What happened?
00:47What happened to what we used to hold sacred?
00:502-1-6-4-7-4-00-92.
00:53What has happened?
00:54Especially in our capital.
00:56Of all places.
00:57Yeah.
00:58Of all places.
01:02Oof.
01:03It's only Wednesday.
01:04And all the resources, all the money that was dumped in, everything from all corners of the state to help
01:11out.
01:12And it wasn't enough.
01:14Who's in charge here?
01:15How could they let this happen?
01:17How could they let this happen?
01:19Hunter, you're a check.
01:20He's in charge here.
01:21Oh, that's the guy.
01:22I was wondering.
01:23He was, I cannot believe he is in charge of this thing.
01:26Like, guys, he was like, I remember he was a bunch of people's bosses.
01:31Like, when I was working facilities at the, it is really unbelievable.
01:36Like, he was, he wasn't the AD.
01:39Mack Rhodes was the athletic director.
01:41And then he was like a different title.
01:44I forget what his title was.
01:45And then he left to be like the AD at Coastal Carolina.
01:48And I remember when I worked at facilities, he wasn't mean.
01:52He, like, he wasn't mean.
01:54But I remember there were a bunch of guys, like, working at facilities at U of A.
01:58And they're like, don't you cross him.
02:00Do as he says.
02:01Rising star?
02:02No, no.
02:02They were just like, he can turn on you.
02:05And I'm like, well.
02:06He was the executive senior associate athletic director.
02:08Okay.
02:09So that's a hell of a lot of words there thrown next to Mack Rhodes, who, oddly enough, kind of
02:15went down in flames there for a moment.
02:18But I just, I can't believe he went from basically telling, he, in so many ways, he was like, go
02:25put those stanchions up.
02:26Pull out those, pull out those bleachers and all that other stuff.
02:29To now he runs college football.
02:31Right.
02:32I mean, it's what a meteoric cry.
02:34I gotta, I gotta give him credit.
02:36I gotta give him credit.
02:37And he was never, I'm telling you, he was never, he just, he wanted things done the way he wanted
02:42them done.
02:43I didn't find him to be mean-spirited or nasty.
02:47I think he just wanted people to do their job, basically, is all I, all I could get, get from
02:52him.
02:52And, you know, I, I, I'm not, I'm 2019 at the time.
02:56I'm a half-asser, just like anybody else.
02:58So, I, I mean, I can respect it.
03:01But then also the other time, I'm like, I stopped busting our ass.
03:03But now as a 40-year-old man, I'm like, looking at him going, that is a hell of a
03:06move by you.
03:07That you go from that to, now you're in charge of all of college football.
03:12And Ohio State's number 12, and that seems nice.
03:14But, there's a caveat to it.
03:16Because I didn't even understand until this morning.
03:21Because Owen says, how, I forget how Owen phrased it.
03:25He's like, we were gonna have to explain to Anthony, I don't know if he knows that they're not in
03:29the playoff.
03:30And I'm like, yeah.
03:31And I go, what?
03:33He goes, yeah, if it started today, they're not in the playoff.
03:35And I go, they're ranked 12th.
03:36He goes, no, you gotta look at it.
03:38And I go, what?
03:39Oh!
03:41You gotta know what you're looking at, Ken.
03:42Exactly.
03:43Just because I'm looking at it doesn't mean I know what I'm looking at.
03:45You gotta be walking around the car looking at it.
03:47You gotta look at it.
03:48Well, but would you look at that?
03:50You can watch tape over in Berea, but if you don't know what you're looking at, it ain't gonna help
03:54you.
03:55Boise State would get in.
03:57Because they have the caveat of the one mid-major.
03:59Boise State is ranked 25th.
04:03And I'm like, I don't need Boise State to lose if I'm an Ohio State fan.
04:07I don't need that to happen.
04:08So exactly what else is there?
04:10Well, I gotta tell you, I draw umbrage with, what is, Alabama's, they lost two games in a row.
04:19There's, I mean, okay, they beat Kentucky, Kentucky's in.
04:22Everything else, South Carolina, Mississippi State, East Carolina, Texas A&M.
04:27Like, that isn't a great resume.
04:29The two teams that they played that were ranked at the time they played them, not Kentucky,
04:34they beat Kentucky thoroughly, but that was at the beginning of the year.
04:39Georgia, they lost.
04:40They lost by three, a tight game.
04:42They got beat up pretty decently.
04:45I watched that Tennessee game.
04:46They got beat up pretty decently against Tennessee.
04:49They play LSU coming up on Saturday.
04:52Well, that'll probably take care of itself then.
04:54What the hell?
04:55They're at LSU, so I guess I shouldn't be.
04:57A lot of this will.
04:58Obviously, it's a massive, massive weekend for college football, so I'm really excited.
05:02Honestly, there are great matchups across the board.
05:05Oh, there's another big one in there, yeah.
05:07Oh, yeah.
05:08Yeah.
05:09The Miami-Notre Dame.
05:11I mean, that is going to be it.
05:12Well, that's what I was, I'm going to get to that here in a second, but when it comes to
05:14Ohio State, like, so basically, I mean, what the committee tells you is that, yeah, you're
05:19going to need some help, which you'll probably get some help, but you also, you definitely
05:21have to win out, right?
05:23This is Hunter, is this, we have more Hunter URTAC?
05:25All right, so this is kind of something that you heard in the open.
05:27This is, he spoke a lot yesterday.
05:30Here's about 40 seconds.
05:31I'll kind of smash together.
05:32It explains the Ohio State of it all, and maybe your thoughts on what's going on with
05:37Alabama and just where the committee's looking.
05:40This is courtesy of ESPN.
05:41When you're trying to compare teams head-to-head, they have to be in the same pod to be compared
05:46head-to-head.
05:47Alabama and Kentucky were in the same pod.
05:49They were compared because of their head-to-head matchup, and so Alabama got the nod ahead of
05:54Kentucky because of that.
05:55We never got to a point where we were comparing Indiana and Ohio State in their head-to-head.
06:00We watched Ohio State Saturday against Southern Cal.
06:03Might want to put the burden all on the freshman quarterback, because our offense actually played
06:07fairly well.
06:08They were held to four field goals through three and a half quarters, but their defense
06:11gave up some really big, explosive plays.
06:14Some of the coaches in our room shared concern about Ohio State up front in their defense,
06:18and not necessarily the quarterback, but they did start a freshman quarterback, installed
06:22some when they got inside the 30-yard line.
06:25Okay, that's, it just seems to be to me, and this is a little bit of bellyache, and we
06:31got a month left until this thing actually really, really, really matters, but it just
06:35came out.
06:35It's an initial reaction.
06:37I don't know if we're going to go over it this thoroughly every single time, but it
06:40first came out.
06:41So, let me just, let me pop this off here.
06:44It's like, I think I can poke the same holes in Alabama.
06:47I think I can poke the same holes in a lot of schools the way that they just poked holes
06:50in Ohio State.
06:51You lost to two quality opponents.
06:54All right?
06:55Texas is a quality opponent.
06:58USC on the road.
06:59I understand Lincoln Riley, his situation is tenable to say the least, but that's still a
07:05quality opponent in so many ways.
07:07So, you did lose, and the one is with the young quarterback.
07:11So, I wonder if he's saying, is that part of the reason why they're even in in the first
07:15place?
07:16He's kind of given a defense of Ohio State being not in, but ranked 12th, because you
07:22got the Boise State scenario that plays in.
07:24But go ahead.
07:24What were you going to say, Tom?
07:25Well, it is funny when you hear the committee members actually breaking down football, trying
07:30to be football guys.
07:31They're bringing up Ohio State's front.
07:33Can you imagine if this was the NFL, and it was Roger Goodell, and he had whoever would
07:39have been on his board, Condoleezza Rice or whoever, and they're talking about, well,
07:44the Browns front.
07:45We were really disappointed.
07:46They didn't tackle this past week.
07:48So, we had to dock them for that.
07:49That's what we do in college football.
07:51It is obviously so different, despite the fact, you know, we continue to expand the
07:55pool, and we're going to be expanding again.
07:57As an Ohio State fan, I got to say, I didn't even, this was not on my radar.
08:02This, you know, John, young John came in yesterday, and he's like, hey, are you worried about the
08:07rankings tonight?
08:07I said, I didn't even know they were tonight.
08:10And part of it is, we've been, well, because we've been around this so many years that we
08:16know that none of the logic that's used tonight will hold water four weeks from now.
08:21Again, audio courtesy ESPN, by the way.
08:23Maybe even a week from now.
08:24Yeah.
08:24It changes so much, and then there's the cross-contamination of all these arguments because
08:31there's more games played, and nothing they said today about comparing us to, not comparing
08:37us to Indiana, even though we beat Indiana, that all goes out the window four weeks from
08:40now when we have so many more data points, so many matchups.
08:43And plus, when your quarterback looks that overwhelmed, when your young freshman quarterback
08:52just goes in in his first game.
08:54So you seem to be cool with all of this.
08:55And it looks overwhelmed, like, I don't have an argument.
08:58Like, if I were the committee, why would I put Ohio State in there?
09:01Why?
09:01What has Ohio State done?
09:03What is their achievement this year?
09:05Was it blowing out Kent State?
09:07Was it, like, they...
09:08Wow, look at tone.
09:09Well, they couldn't hold on.
09:10You're very hard on Ohio State, though, even though they're your favorite team.
09:13Like, a lot of people, I think, if they just started listening, they think...
09:16Well, because Lyman's an alum, went to Ohio State.
09:19If they just started listening, they might think that you're a homer and you're going
09:21to make a bunch of excuses.
09:22You were very, very, very hard on them.
09:25Well, the Texas game.
09:25The Texas game was laughable that they gave that game up.
09:28That's fair.
09:29So I don't have a lot of...
09:30I don't have a lot of me puffing my chest out, giving reasons for Ohio State to be in.
09:36I don't have it.
09:37Do you agree with maybe the Sam Block fellow on ESPN who had said that they should have
09:40just scheduled Kent State instead of Texas and they should get rid of all these other
09:44games?
09:44I hate that.
09:45I absolutely hate that.
09:46You're Ohio State.
09:47Well, when there's 24 teams in the playoff, which...
09:49Is that next year?
09:50When you get to 24 teams in the playoff, there's definitely all sorts of reasons why you still
09:54schedule Texas and Alabama and God knows who.
09:57Yeah, the whole point is, if that's what we're doing, and we just...
09:59We have to condition college football fans at powerhouses that it's okay to lose three
10:04times by next year.
10:06That's...
10:07Like, you just...
10:07Yeah.
10:08And you want to see that.
10:09You want the schedules to matter.
10:11You want the big games.
10:13Like, that's what we wanted in the sport all along.
10:15When I was young and, you know, Ohio State...
10:18Young.
10:19It was five years ago when Ohio State has three games on their schedule that matters.
10:23Well, let's dispense with that.
10:24We're done with that.
10:25That era of college football should be over.
10:27So you should play good teams every week.
10:30We're making this professionalized.
10:31The players are getting paid.
10:33Yeah.
10:34I want entertainment out of my schedule.
10:36I don't want ten romps that I don't even have to break down the game or talk about.
10:41That's fair.
10:42I do like...
10:43Your head is in a great place right now, but you have to say that they'd be seven and
10:47one instead of six and two, and they'd be in the playoff right now comfortably.
10:51And I don't think they'd have to worry about very much, because your only loss would have
10:54been to USC, which I understand is obviously recent, but I still think you'd be in the
10:59playoff comfortably.
11:00The team that is pretty uncomfortable is number 11, and I know you wanted to get to this a
11:05little earlier.
11:06Notre Dame, this game becomes their life coming up on Saturday.
11:09I mean, this is everything.
11:11If they lose this game...
11:12I'm going to the Boston College game next Saturday.
11:15I don't know what type of atmosphere I'm going to walk into if they lose this game against
11:19Miami on Saturday.
11:22If they win this game against Miami, I think it's going to be a raucous occasion and something
11:26to behold.
11:27Now, Boston College has been a little bit better than what people thought they were going to
11:30be.
11:30They've been a little bit of a tougher out than what some folks thought.
11:32However, well, here and there, I know that they got to...
11:35I think they just got blown out.
11:37But this Miami game, because I've been wondering, like, where's the good team?
11:41Who's the good team?
11:43Is Miami...
11:43Will we find out Saturday if Miami's the really good team in college football?
11:48Because there's a lot of teams that it's just like, yeah, you're good.
11:53Like, I know Indiana's good.
11:54I know Ohio State is good.
11:56I know Georgia is good.
11:58But how good...
12:00Like, it's not...
12:01There's no Death Star teams anymore.
12:03And I think that that's kind of thrown off how a lot of people have traditionally grown
12:08up with college football.
12:09Because we've always gone...
12:11Like, there's good teams, and then there's like, okay, there's Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide.
12:15And then there was, and credit where it's due, Davos, Sweeney's, Clemson Tigers, Urbans,
12:21Ohio State, Buckeyes.
12:22Like, there is so much there.
12:24And now it's just...
12:26Yeah, you got some really good teams, but there's no Death Star there.
12:29And Miami, it's like, yeah, you're good.
12:33But are you going to be good enough to beat Notre Dame and change their fortunes?
12:38Because if they lose another...
12:39I mean, they have one loss.
12:40If they lose two, they're done.
12:41They're not it.
12:41It's just comical if you would have told anybody in the world that knew anything about college
12:46football, just as, I don't know, recent as four years ago, three, four years ago, about
12:53four years ago, if I were to say, hey, those first, hey, babe, those first college football
12:58rankings are out.
13:00Who are the Big Ten teams in the top ten?
13:02Oh, Indiana, UCLA.
13:04You would have said absolutely no way.
13:07There's a wild time.
13:08You would have bet your life.
13:09You would have bet everything you own that there was no chance that UCLA and Indiana
13:13would be your teams.
13:14And it's been a down year for the Big Ten.
13:16After the Big Ten has, and deservedly so, ripped the SEC up and down, up and down, up
13:21and down.
13:22It has been a brutal season for the Big Ten.
13:24Hey, also, I mean, I can't sit there.
13:25I'm not being defensive of Notre Dame when I say that.
13:28Like, yeah, I do like Notre Dame.
13:29There's no doubt about it.
13:30But your one ranked opponent, I think, was BYU.
13:32If you only have one ranked opponent and you lost to that ranked opponent, like, yeah, you're
13:37going to be on, like, yeah, you won a lot of games.
13:39I think your name keeps you in the conversation for the college football playoff, your history,
13:45obviously your brand.
13:46But, like, you've got to beat Miami on Saturday to be able to have a chance to make sure that
13:51you're in that college football playoff.
13:52Because I think afterwards, again, Boston College, SMU, and I forget who they have afterwards,
13:55but I don't think it's a big opponent to finish off their season.
13:59But it's just that simple.
14:00You would say they lost to both their ranked opponents.
14:03The opponents they have afterwards are not that good.
14:06They're done.
14:07It's that simple.
14:07They're done.
14:08So in this region, in Northeast Ohio, most people are Ohio State fans.
14:14And then, to a lesser degree, Michigan and Notre Dame fans and or Notre Dame fans.
14:20It's tight.
14:22It is a really tight spot right now.
14:24Because Ohio State, I think you should take care of Oregon.
14:27I think you should take care of Northwestern at home.
14:30Here's the thing.
14:31If they were to lose to Oregon, everybody will say they're done.
14:34Well, that's it.
14:34And then what happens if that's what it took?
14:37It took two games for this quarterback to get his bearings down.
14:40And then they blow out Northwestern, blow out Nebraska, easily handle Michigan, and it'll
14:46be too little too late.
14:47Yeah.
14:47Like, they'll be eliminated.
14:48There's no doubt.
14:49Coming up at 8 o'clock, we'll go around the AFC North.
14:52Pony will join us.
14:54I'm not going to lead with it, but at the end of our conversation with Pony, I have to admonish
14:58him for something that I found repugnant earlier this week.
15:02Also, Dane Brugler going to join us at 9 o'clock.
15:04Because 722, I kind of had a back and forth with people, and I think that they got confused
15:10about the person instead of the player.
15:12Speaking of players and speaking of people, I have an answer for Conor Orr's article.
15:16I don't know if you saw it or not.
15:20No, it wasn't Conor Orr.
15:22It was Ben Solek.
15:24I have an answer for Ben Solek's article.
15:27I was thinking a younger guy.
15:28Sorry.
15:29And I don't think you guys are going to like my answer.
15:32Ken Carman, Anthony Lyman, live on the fan.
15:33Ken Carman, Anthony Lyman, live on the fan.
