00:00We welcome on Daryl Ryder, brought to you by Scheiben Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
00:04Daryl, welcome to the show.
00:06Hello, boys.
00:07How are we doing, fella?
00:08Doing fantastic.
00:09All right.
00:10Why'd you say it in such a way?
00:11He did.
00:11It was very...
00:12Are you angry to be fantastic?
00:14I'm trying to figure out who Nick is trying to besmirch in the Cleveland media, that's all.
00:18Well, now, apparently, it's not enough just to say that I have the name.
00:21Now I have to find proof for Mr. Burden of Proof over here.
00:24Well, he searched all break, Daryl, and couldn't find the clip, so I don't believe the clip exists.
00:27It's not me, is it?
00:28Because it's in hours of content, and I had three minutes.
00:32Well, I'll wait patiently.
00:33And I happen to listen to this person quite a bit.
00:37Yeah.
00:37Because I'm an arty supporter.
00:39And you've never been shy mentioning any point that this person has made previously, but this is the one...
00:42Yeah, because it's been made on this station.
00:45So it's different when I can just play the sound of what they've said and then react.
00:51You think this person has never said that quote that you're saying on our station, then?
00:56There's a chance.
00:56They have not said it.
00:58Sorry, Daryl.
00:59We're getting very vague here also.
01:01No, that's okay.
01:02You can just text me the name.
01:03That's all.
01:03All right.
01:04Okay.
01:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04We did that with Keith, and Keith was like, yeah, good looking out.
01:07Thank you for not saying that.
01:08Despite Keith calling in to try and get me to say the damn name.
01:10He did try to bully.
01:11He tried bullying Nick into saying the name.
01:13You can't bully Hungarians, guys.
01:15We just bully right back.
01:17Or we just get really mad and just blow up at you.
01:19All right, Daryl.
01:20Or mean.
01:21Yeah.
01:21Yeah.
01:21That happens.
01:22Yeah.
01:22It does.
01:24All right, Daryl.
01:25Let's talk about if Shador plays on Sunday.
01:28What are your expectations?
01:29Well, my expectation is that he goes out there and wins the football game.
01:34It's that simple.
01:35I mean, that's what the number two quarterback's job is.
01:39Todd Munkin said it this afternoon during his media availability.
01:43That's the standard.
01:45And Shador is no different and be held to that standard.
01:48He's shown the ability to win games.
01:51He won, what, three of his seven starts last year,
01:54albeit in less than ideal circumstances that he was put in.
02:00So he's shown the capacity and ability to be able to do it.
02:04New Orleans obviously coming off the bye,
02:06but things not going so well down by the bayou.
02:11And an opportunity for him to go out there and showcase all of this
02:16development and maturity that we have been hearing so much about.
02:19And also we've seen a little bit during training camp as far as the
02:23development and him being a little better player than he was a year ago.
02:27So tremendous opportunity for him to showcase how far he's come in a year's time.
02:34Is it automatic that Deshaun is the starting quarterback after this one game?
02:39It doesn't matter how Shador plays in the slightest bit.
02:42It will be Deshaun.
02:43Or have you left a little wiggle room for a Wally Pipps situation?
02:46No, I have no wiggle room.
02:49Um, uh, and in fact, it wouldn't shock me if Deshaun Watson starts Sunday, uh, at this point.
02:55So, uh, and obviously he has to clear the protocol.
02:59I want to be very clear about that, but, um, it would not surprise me if we get to Friday
03:05and they listed Deshaun as a questionable.
03:08They have until Saturday for him to clear that protocol.
03:12So I think if he does clear the protocol Saturday, he starts Sunday, uh, and, you know, so they'll
03:18get Shador ready to go, uh, in the event that does not occur.
03:22So, uh, but no, I, I don't think right now we have a Wally Pipps situation on our hands.
03:27I think this is just all about if Shador Sanders does play, hold him down the fort, go to New
03:32Orleans, handle the business, get the win in any way, shape or form, however it looks.
03:36Uh, and then, uh, once Deshaun Watson is healthy again and cleared, uh, he resumes his, uh, starting
03:43job.
03:43What odds would you put at it that Deshaun actually is the starter on Sunday or ends up
03:47being the starter on Sunday then?
03:49Yeah.
03:49You know, uh, the, the timeline of this is what has me thinking because they've had three
03:53players already this season end up in concussion protocol, but that started the, the, the,
04:00the, during the game, they got hurt, right?
04:02Uh, Grant Delpit, Casey Concepcion, and then, uh, uh, Titus Howard.
04:08So, uh, there's plenty of runway for them to go through all of the steps to go ahead and
04:14get cleared in time for the upcoming game.
04:17Um, whereas this, if, if I understood the press release or the announcement that the team
04:25made, he was put in the protocol yesterday, later in the day.
04:29So I, you know, I, I, there are definitive steps he has to go type of things, but I think
04:35if you gave Todd Munkin some truth serum, who he'd rather have on the football field in
04:40the, in the, uh, uh, in the dome Sunday afternoon, it's going to be Deshaun Watson over Shadour
04:46Sanders.
04:47All right.
04:47I want to get back to something you said pretty definitively.
04:50And, uh, occasionally I've accused you of a flip-flop here or there.
04:55So I just want to make it clear of changing my opinion based on new information.
04:59You mean?
04:59Yes.
04:59Flip-flopping.
05:00Okay.
05:01Um, I want to make it clear.
05:02You said there's no chance of a Wally Pippage situation here.
05:06That is what he said.
05:07Yeah.
05:07I, I, I, I just, I don't.
05:09So Shadour throws for 300 yards.
05:12The Browns score 30 points.
05:15And it's the easiest Sunday you and I have, have had in a, in quite some time.
05:19How many touchdowns?
05:20What's my touchdown to interception ratio here?
05:23Shouldn't, shouldn't matter if you're definitive.
05:24Oh, it should matter because Deshaun Watson's thrown for 300 yards in back-to-back games.
05:28Three touchdowns, one INT.
05:31Wait, no, hold on.
05:31Now you're, now you're arguing.
05:33How many fumbles?
05:33Hold on, hold on, hold on.
05:34How many sacks?
05:35No, no, no.
05:35Once you start arguing, it means, it means that there's room for you to then make a Wally
05:40Pipp situation happen, which is not what you said.
05:42I need to, I need to know the full context of the question here.
05:45I need to know the full situation I'm working with.
05:47No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
05:47Because if you just tell me he throws for 300 yards and the Browns win easily, well,
05:51I mean, they could run for, they could run for 250.
05:54When you said there's no Wally Pipp situation, that means it doesn't matter what numbers he
05:56throws for.
05:57There's not a situation that ever exists for that to, that happened.
06:00Jonathan, will you, will you stop spoiling my fun?
06:03I wanted Nick to go through the motions here before I said no.
06:07Over the numbers.
06:08There's no numbers that exist for you to be haggling over.
06:11I wanted to haggle over the numbers just for giggles.
06:14Give him six touchdowns, 400 yards.
06:16I just want to be clear.
06:17Give him the extremes.
06:18Okay.
06:18If he throws for six touchdowns and 400 yards, we might have to have a conversation.
06:23So you're not.
06:24So the door isn't closed.
06:25I got new information.
06:26I didn't have.
06:27The door isn't closed.
06:27No, no, no.
06:27I didn't have 400 yards and six touchdowns in a single game in my calculus here.
06:32Okay.
06:32All right, Nick, you understand what happened here, right?
06:35I do understand what happens.
06:36Here's the thing.
06:37I have a feeling that your opinion could change by next Monday.
06:43Nick, I'm going to tell you this.
06:44If he throws for 400 yards and six touchdowns on Sunday, I'll buy you a week's worth of burgers.
06:50Well, now I'm rooting for the Browns even more so.
06:53And I would eat every one of those burgers, even if it caused my untimely demise.
06:58And I'd eat them with a smile on my face.
07:00All right.
07:00But you know what?
07:01We'll say lots of nice things about you once you're gone.
07:03Okay.
07:03I don't think that's entirely true.
07:06No.
07:06No.
07:07I think once I can't clap back.
07:09We will celebrate your love for hamburgers.
07:12I think this is going to be like when Stalin died.
07:14All of a sudden, a lot of people that were boot licking, oh, they had some things to say
07:19about old Joey Stalin.
07:20Wait a minute.
07:21Is there a statue of you somewhere that we'd be at risk of tearing down?
07:25Daryl, I did look it up.
07:26There's quite an erection somewhere.
07:27I did look it up because I care is why I looked it up.
07:29I was like, how many years do you lose if you weigh 360 pounds?
07:33How many are you knocking off?
07:35Yeah.
07:36Only six and a half was the estimate.
07:39For what now?
07:40Like from your life.
07:41From a normal lifespan.
07:42You said six and a half, but it was where we were knocking off here.
07:45360 pounds only knocks off six and a half years.
07:48It's not.
07:49Nick, you're in a fine spot.
07:50You're in a fine spot.
07:52I always said it.
07:52I would have thought it would have been more if I'm being honest.
07:55Listen, leave Nick alone.
07:56He's out walking the trails.
07:57He's getting his exercise in.
07:59Six and a half is good.
08:00You got a real chance to outlive, Daryl.
08:02I just want you to keep saying six and a half is good.
08:04All right, Daryl.
08:05Would an eight-win season still be a success for the Browns
08:08after the team's five and three start?
08:10Yeah, I think so.
08:12Are you sure?
08:13Yeah.
08:14Yeah.
08:15That means that go three and six.
08:17We're just trying to make sure we're flip-flop proof
08:20in this whole thing here, Frella.
08:23Again, I need to see how that three and six looks.
08:27It looks three and six.
08:29I think that, first of all, I've upped my win total.
08:34So here's your –
08:35You said you fluffed up your win total?
08:37No, I said –
08:38We're back to six and a half.
08:40No, no, no, no.
08:41Turn that in.
08:42No, I said between six and eight wins.
08:45And now I've put eight wins as the low-water mark.
08:49They've got, at minimum, three more victories in them.
08:52Thank you for admitting you flip-flopped already.
08:54Listen, new information presented itself.
08:57You flip-flopped.
08:58I'm open-minded.
08:59We appreciate you, buddy.
09:00Good stuff.
09:01Listen, I could have just sat here and smiled through the whole interview
09:04and told you how mature I was.
09:06Did you think that was as awkward as we thought?
09:09It – yeah.
09:11How – did you think that was a shot at somebody or did you think it was – how do
09:18we put it?
09:19I think he was – I think that he was intentionally difficult with folks that he does not like answering
09:26questions from.
09:27Oh.
09:28We did take it how the Shador people took it.
09:30And my – I mean, I personally don't care.
09:34I asked him a softball question.
09:35Hey, you know, how do you establish your own rhythm and pace early in a game?
09:39And he said that I asked him a question he was in no means prepared to answer.
09:45Thought it was a softball.
09:46I, you know, being asked about the opposing defense that you're going to face and what you see on film,
09:51that's a standard Wednesday quarterback question, okay?
09:54Again, another softball.
09:55And, you know, he decided to respond the way he did.
09:59I understand if that's how you want to respond to being asked about the agent.
10:02That's fine.
10:02But he got – that's the only non-football question he got today.
10:06And he chose to represent himself that way.
10:09And that's fine.
10:09That's a choice he made.
10:12And, you know, if you're auditioning because you did hire an agent
10:15and you want people to be excited about maybe you being their franchise quarterback,
10:19if the Browns ultimately decide that you're not going to be their franchise quarterback,
10:23I don't know that that was the best way to present himself today.
10:26Every time you go out there, whether you're on the field or in front of cameras and microphones,
10:31and I had to learn this at a young age, and at times I was bullheaded
10:34and it took me a long time to learn it too.
10:36But, yeah, you might feel good about it,
10:38but you're the one that ends up making yourself look bad when you do things like that.
10:43And I just – I felt like Shador made himself look bad
10:47even though his fans right now are congratulating him and giving him a victory lap.
10:53So you thought he was basically intentionally dismissive of certain reporters maybe?
10:58Yeah, and myself included.
10:59Yeah, that's what I gathered.
11:01And, again, that's fine because it's not about me.
11:04It's not even about the questions I ask.
11:07It's always about his responses.
11:09The reason when I put the clips out there today, I put the questions with it,
11:12is because I wanted to be fair to the complete context of the situation.
11:16This is the question asked.
11:17This was the response he gave instead of just putting his response out there
11:21because you can always clean up how a question gets asked or whatever.
11:26So I wanted to put full question, full answer, each of those three circumstances
11:30and then allow folks to just make their own opinions off of it.
11:36But, you know, it is what it is.
11:40You know, no big deal to me.
11:42No worry.
11:44That's how he chose to handle his media availability today.
11:47That's fine.
11:48And, you know, we'll see if he plays on Sunday.
11:51And, you know, hopefully he's able to go out there
11:53and get the Browns their sixth win of the season if he does.
11:56Daryl, appreciate you, buddy.
11:57Have a good week.
11:58Thank you, Daryl.
11:58You bud.
11:59You bud?
