00:00It is an honor to be here with Speaker-elect Hakeem Jeffries, Majority-elect Catherine Clark,
00:07Whip-elect Pete Aguilar, and our amazing, outstanding, and credible Field General Susan Del Bene.
00:13Last night, the American people sent a clear and unmistakable repudiation of the MAGA agenda
00:20of Donald Trump and Republicans. The last two years, the American people saw gas prices skyrocketing,
00:28health care costs exploding, the risks of artificial intelligence getting out of control.
00:35And what was the response from Trump and Republicans? Putting his name on stuff,
00:42from passports to coins to buildings. What was Donald Trump doing the day before the election?
00:49He was standing in front of a Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, talking about how they should
00:54change the name of that Reflecting Pool, which he messed up, to the Trump Reflecting Pool.
00:59And the American people said, enough. Stop the insanity. Stop the corruption. And focus on lowering prices.
01:07And under leadership of this amazing leadership team, Democrats listened. And that's why the American
01:14people flipped the House and flipped the Senate. And when Democrats are in control, we're going to
01:19focus on affordability. We will pass a bill to reverse the largest Medicaid cut in U.S. history
01:25enacted by Republicans. We will pass a bill to restore the ACA tax credits. We will pass a bill
01:31to stop the stupid Trump tariffs jacking up prices on Americans. And we will pass a bill
01:37to stop the Iran war. And on the subject of that security, I just want to note that as a
01:42veteran myself,
01:43we are all super excited with an incredibly large number of Democrats who happen to be veterans who
01:50flipped seats last night on track to be well over 10. The American people sent a message. Democrats are listening.
02:00I urge Trump and Republicans to do the same.
02:06Thank you. Thank you, Ted. Thank you, Susan. Thank you, Catherine. Thank you, Pete. Questions?
02:15When it comes to your priorities on day one, is it more possible to get you to accept health care
02:20and parents, or are you going to be focused on the investigations of the administration first?
02:25We have been focused relentlessly on dealing with the affordability crisis and driving down the high
02:32cost of living. We made a promise to the country that we would fight for an affordable America,
02:37and we intend to keep it. We need to reverse the Medicaid cuts. We need to extend the Affordable
02:43Care Act tax credits. We need to end this reckless and costly war of choice that has skyrocketed gas
02:51prices all across the country. And we need to stop the Trump tariffs that have increased costs on
02:58everyday Americans by thousands of dollars per year.
03:01Sir, are you a Trump Schumer on the same page? Sir, are you a safe name of Trump Schumer when
03:05it comes
03:06to investigation targets? You both mentioned Pete Hexeth, but are there other people on that list
03:11in the administration? Is Pete Hexeth still around? Questions?
03:17Hi. When do you plan to have a conversation with President Trump, and how do you envision actually
03:22working with someone that you yourself called the dumbest person ever to hold that office,
03:27and you're facing calls within your own caucus to impeach him?
03:31I haven't had a single member of the House Democratic Caucus talk to me about impeachment.
03:37We've been relentlessly focused on affordability and on accountability, because the House is a
03:45separate and co-equal branch of government. We recognize that we don't work for Donald Trump,
03:50we don't work for J.D. Vance, we don't work for the Supreme Court, we work for the American people.
03:55And the days of the House of Representatives functioning like a wholly owned subsidiary of
04:02the Trump administration are over. House Democrats are going to lead a Congress that does serve
04:11as a check and balance on an out-of-control executive branch. I have not heard from President Trump.
04:19It's my understanding that Leader Schumer has not heard from President Trump. I look forward
04:24to talking to the members of the House Democratic Caucus when we convene early next week. I look forward
04:32to talking to Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats when we convene next week and charting a path forward
04:40to bring about the type of dramatic change the American people are clearly demanding.
04:45What will you say to Chuck? What will you say to Chuck?
04:48Second row.
04:51Anyone else?
04:54Governor DeSantis is already defending the map, saying that they walked in with 20 Republicans
04:59and left with 20 Republicans.
05:01You said this morning on Twitter that the map had been signed, sealed, and destroyed. I wondered
05:07if you could address the governor's comments and also if you could address the failure of
05:11Republican anti-transgender rhetoric to spave off their losses last week.
05:16I have more to say about DeSantis' dummy mander in a moment, but let me yield to Susan Delbeni.
05:24You know, we had resounding wins. Jared Moskowitz, Kathy Castor, Darren Soto, they tried to take
05:32those seats out. They didn't. Pia Dandia is coming in as a new member of Congress. So despite
05:38all of their attempts to rig the system in Florida, we had an incredible showing, and all
05:46due to incredible incumbents and incredible candidates who were running.
05:52We made clear last year, when this corrupt effort to rig the midterm elections by gerrymandering
06:02congressional maps in red states all across the country began, that Republicans might start
06:10this redistricting and gerrymandering battle. Democrats were going to finish it. And last
06:18night, that's exactly what happened. We're thankful to the American people. Above all else, we're
06:26thankful to our incredible and courageous battleground incumbents who were put in a position where
06:39the Republicans, like DeSantis, wanted them to step back. But on behalf of the American people, they chose
06:47to fight back. Kathy Castor chose to run and she prevailed. Jared Moskowitz chose to run and he prevailed.
07:01Darren Soto chose to run and he prevailed. Henry Cuellar chose to run in a redrawn district like all of
07:13the others and he prevailed.
07:16Vincent Gonzalez chose to run in a redrawn district and he prevailed. Don Davis chose to run in a redrawn
07:26district and he prevailed.
07:28Shamari figures. And that was my last stop on the campaign trail with him in Montgomery, Alabama, the birthplace of
07:38the civil rights movement.
07:39And it was a moving experience to end this campaign there. He chose to run and he prevailed by 10
07:46points.
07:48Marcy Cappter, the OG of the battleground members.
07:58Marcy Cappter, the OG of the battleground members. She chose to run in a dramatically redrawn district and she prevailed.
08:15Greg Lansman chose to run in a redrawn district and she prevailed.
08:23Marcy Cappter designed to defeat him and he won. It was decisive, complete and total.
08:29I want to thank those frontline members. I want to thank our candidates like Bobby Pulido, Johnny Garcia and so
08:36many others who ran and Pia.
08:39I want to thank Susan and the DCCC and Julie and every single member of the House Democratic Caucus who
08:48notwithstanding that redrawn map believed it when we all said they started this, but we're going to finish it.
08:58Yes, we can. Yes, we can. And yes, we did.
09:03Mr. Leader, are you actually going to be done with redistricting earlier this year?
09:08You noted that you would be looking at state legislatures and they've looked at governor races, looked at certain states
09:13to potentially expand the map even further.
09:17Are you going to wait for Republicans and how you did this past cycle to make a move and then
09:23respond?
09:23They messed around and now they're going to find out.
09:28Mr. Japanese, you mentioned four things you guys planned to vote on, reversing the Medicaid cuts, restoring the ACA subsidies,
09:34ending the tariffs and ending the war.
09:38Are those all like day one votes, week one votes, what's the timeline and then secondarily, you know, Trump is
09:43potentially going to veto all those things.
09:45Do you expect Republicans to help you out and is there a chance of veto for majority on any of
09:50those measures?
09:50We're going to have a conversation as a caucus upon our return about what the agenda looks like, but we're
09:56going to get out of the gate fast.
09:57Let me yield to our majority leader and our majority whip who are going to play an incredibly important role
10:04in how it all looks in the 120th Congress.
