00:02Hello.
00:04This is an update for Democrats in Illinois.
00:10You laid out a policy here that you can push forward.
00:15At the same time, a lot of this happened in the last couple of years,
00:18that the federal administration has done that there are some people that you see
00:20and have all their investigations on.
00:23How are you going to balance those two things,
00:30bringing policy first, trust, and accountability?
00:33And how are you going to stay together as a Democratic caucus?
00:38I was wondering when the governor said that people have hope right now
00:45that it seems like it can be a little scary for me right now.
00:48Yeah, well, I always say we can walk and chew gum at the same time.
00:53There's an opportunity to do both and.
00:56We have to hold someone that I believe is the most corrupt president in United States history accountable.
01:04And we can do that by calling into question, making sure there's transparency,
01:08asking the questions that the American people deserve to have answers to.
01:13But we have to deliver for people.
01:15And I think that's the message today.
01:18Here are 200-plus policy solutions on what we can get done for the American people,
01:25and for Illinoisans in particular.
01:27And so, yes, there are always going to be questions.
01:30And I do hear from Illinoisans that they want this corrupt president to be held accountable.
01:35But we have to focus our efforts on making sure we deliver for people.
01:39People are sitting right now deciding, do I go to the doctor or do I pay my rent?
01:46That is a false choice.
01:48People are going to the gas station and saying, I cannot afford to fill up my tank anymore,
01:54so I'm just going to get a half a tank of gas.
01:56Those are very real things that we're hearing from people.
01:59And I think that what we are seeing from these policy solutions is let's get in there and get things
02:04done.
02:04What I'm going to do is bring my experience as a mediator.
02:08For two decades, I had an alternative dispute resolution firm.
02:11Mediation was my job to bring people who don't always see eye to eye.
02:15And we're going to see differences even within the party.
02:17I'm going to use those skills to bring people together to solve problems.
02:22But it's going to be important that we find these unifying areas where we can all come together and say,
02:28how are we going to raise wages for people?
02:31How are we going to expand access to health care?
02:34How are we going to make sure that people can put food on the table and that they can get
02:37to the doctor when they need one?
02:39That's what I'm going to be fighting for.
02:41It's what I've been talking about for the last year and a half.
02:44And that's going to be a priority of mine when I get there.
02:47And then I will use my skills as a mediator to make sure that we can all be on the
02:51same track.
02:52We already have Senator Duckworth fighting for all of these things in Washington.
02:55She's been a champion for these things.
02:57I'm looking forward to joining her to keep it going.
03:18We've always been the party fighting for working families.
03:22This is not new.
03:23We've been fighting for health care.
03:25We've been fighting to create jobs.
03:27We've been the party that's been fighting to make sure that there's economic opportunity and mobility.
03:33We've been investing in education.
03:35All of these things we have been doing and we need to deliver on those and come back to continue
03:42doing what we've been doing all along.
03:44Donald Trump is the president.
03:46He is the one, along with Republicans, who have supported him in these efforts.
03:50They're the ones that have been rolling back all of these things.
03:53So we're going to get into now.
03:55We heard a clear mandate last night that we want a party that's going to come in and fight for
04:01everyday Americans, working families who are struggling right now.
04:06And we're going to do what we have always done.
04:09We've always been the party to deliver for people.
04:11And that's the mandate that we've been given.
04:22Go ahead.
04:31Well, absolutely.
04:32You know, I think what our governor has done here in this state with continuing to gather evidence to hold
04:37accountable the most egregious actions of the Trump administration, of ICE on our city streets, that will continue.
04:44But at the same time, there are things we can do even in the rest of the lame duck session
04:48that is in front of us, even before we actually take control in January.
04:53We can actually work to repeal those most egregious cuts to Medicaid that is in the big ugly bill, right?
05:00We can end the war in Iran.
05:02I have legislation that I've written that actually cuts funding for the war in Iran to the Department of Defense
05:09and for Pete Hexat's travel until they come and explain to the American people through Congress exactly what they're doing
05:14and what the plan is.
05:15So we actually have put up at least nine different times legislation to end the war.
05:22And at different points in time, Republicans have voted with us, a few of them, but then they reversed their
05:26position.
05:26Maybe some of those folks who are on their way out will find their backbones and work with us and
05:32let's end the war in Iran now, even before Democrats take charge.
05:36And so we can actually make headway.
05:38If we don't reverse the Medicaid cuts that are in the big ugly bill, the next round of cuts happen
05:44in December.
05:45We in Illinois potentially will lose as many as nine safety net hospitals and 93 nursing homes.
05:52Those figures come from the Illinois Hospital Association.
05:55We have to act, and we're going to act now, and maybe we can get some Republicans to work with
05:59us.
05:59But if they are not going to do it, then when we take charge in January, we are going to
06:02make that happen.
06:07Hi, Marianne.
06:09So, um, what if the President has seen the Biden Trump, whether or not he should find out who he
06:15has to say?
06:15He should have nominated him in the first place.
06:18Pete Hexeth is the most incompetent Secretary of Defense in our nation's history.
06:21Woo!
06:22Woo!
06:23Woo!
06:23Woo!
06:26And let me just make it clear.
06:28We have actually passed legislation that Donald Trump was too afraid to sign or veto.
06:35Right?
06:36The housing bill that we recently passed, I'm on the Democrats' housing task force to make housing more affordable for
06:42all Americans.
06:43Because you should not have to wait until you have the 40 years old to be able to afford your
06:46first home.
06:47There are a lot of things that you can do.
06:49And so we did pass in a bipartisan way, in an overwhelming way, legislation to help Americans be able to
06:56afford housing.
06:57He was too afraid to sign it.
06:59He was also too afraid to veto it, and it became law anyway.
07:02That's the kind of thing that we can do in the next months that are available in the lame duck
07:06session.
07:06We're going to call Donald Trump on it.
07:08And even in the next two years, while we have control of the Congress, he's still in the White House.
07:14We can put things in front of him and dare him to veto them.
07:18Dare him to veto them.
07:19I think he's too much of a chicken shit to veto a lot of this stuff.
07:24And we're going to hold him accountable.
07:32Chris.
07:33Good morning, Governor.
07:34Good morning.
07:36These are obviously unprecedented times, but what you're pitching today is politically unconventional and sort of unprecedented.
07:42We look, no governor the day after an election has ever put forth a 200-point plan.
07:46This big, bold, immediate playbook for Congress on national and international policy coming from a governor,
07:53can you understand the reasonable person test looking at this and saying,
07:57this very much looks like a lily pad jump to a run for president?
08:00Can I answer this?
08:01Yes, please.
08:02Go ahead.
08:03No.
08:07All right.
08:08I'm going to answer this.
08:12I am going to answer this because I feel so strongly about this.
08:15The things we have done in Illinois should be a model for the nation.
08:24These are the things we've been talking about.
08:27The things that we've done in Illinois to bring Illinois back from the brink that Bruce Rauner and his egregious
08:34policies put us into should be a model for the rest of the nation.
08:37We made Illinois a beacon for reproductive health care for women across this country.
08:44That is in the agenda.
08:46The fact of the matter is the policies that we've done here, raising the minimum wage, have been good for
08:52Illinois,
08:53but they're the same policies that will be good for the rest of the nation.
08:55And I intend to take this playbook, the Illinois playbook, to the national level because what we're going to do
09:01to support our veterans,
09:02what we're going to do to support better housing, invest in education, these are all things that are good for
09:07America.
09:08The fact that we support early childhood education here, yes, it's good for Illinois, but it's good for the rest
09:13of the nation.
09:13Did you know that the Department of Defense has put out a statistic in the last several years that they
09:18cannot recruit from 77% of the 18 to 24 year olds in this country
09:21because they can't pass the math and English test that's written at the 8th grade level to enlist in the
09:26military?
09:26So why would we not invest in early childhood education for the rest of the nation?
09:37America cannot be the leader of the free world that she should be if we don't invest in this country.
09:43And the policies that this governor has put into place in Illinois are the same policies that will be good
09:49for the United States.
09:50And so I am glad to have this playbook. These are things we've been talking about.
09:53This is not something that just suddenly fell out of the sky or that the governor wrote last night.
09:57This is all stuff that we've been discussing for a very long time, and now it's time to execute them.
10:03And yes, if we're going to lead, then let's lead from Illinois.
10:06Should he run for president?
10:08If he runs for president, I will support him 110%.
10:20I'll give the quick answer because you already got one from a good one from the senior senator.
10:25For those who think this is a lily pen job.
10:26I understand. I know what the question is. I just want to say the amount of destruction that's been brought
10:33upon Illinois and upon states all across the United States has been unprecedented.
10:38So if you think a 200-point list of policies that need to be enacted in the new Congress is
10:45unprecedented in some fashion, it's because of that destruction.
10:49That's why this is so broad a plan.
10:52We have to deal with the problems that working people are going through and the most vulnerable people are going
10:58through all across the country.
11:00But I'm worried about the people of the state of Illinois.
11:03And again, we've got fighters here.
11:04We're going to take this agenda to Washington.
11:06We've got an entire delegation that's going to fight like hell for the people of Illinois.
11:11And I'm very proud of that fact.
11:12But we wanted to give them a guidebook, a playbook.
11:15And as you heard from the senator, this is a playbook that will be good for others.
11:20And that's why I think they will be able to get the votes necessary even before there is the new
11:26Congress that gets sworn in.
11:27Because guess what?
11:28Those snap cuts, those Medicaid cuts, those affect the red states and the red areas of our country just like
11:34they do the blue areas of our country.
11:39Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, Ben, I apologize.
11:52Well, I appreciate your faith in the idea that I might be a candidate for president.
11:59And I appreciate all of the, well, the faith that people have expressed to me.
12:04But I can tell you this, everything, and I really mean everything, including the agenda that we put forward today
12:10and everything that we've done over the last eight years has really been about the people of Illinois.
12:14What is good for the people of Illinois?
12:16Those are the questions that I ask every day when I wake up in the morning.
12:19What am I going to do to make people's lives better?
12:22And I go to bed at night thinking about what didn't I get done that day that I need to
12:26do the next day.
12:27Those are the things that will guide all the decisions I'll make going forward.
12:30So thank you very much.
