00:00 >> The Daily Base is live right here on this Tuesday for a full
00:07 major league baseball slate with our guy Craig Mish, our MLB
00:11 new insider here on the Sports Grid Network, the host of
00:14 Newswire starting at 11 AM Eastern Time. Craig, we appreciate
00:19 you being here on this Tuesday and in your honor on a Monday.
00:23 We want game by game for Donnie's Eagles record prediction
00:27 for 2024. You were the inspiration.
00:30 >> Yeah, I mean, I'll tell you we get a lot of awards here at
00:32 Sports Grid, but that segment yesterday, you know that you
00:35 did may have been, you know, right at the top potential for
00:38 some more awards and that doesn't even include the last
00:41 segment that you guys just did for people who are watching
00:43 last 15 minutes.
00:44 I mean, I wasn't even sure that was on the air.
00:47 I had to, I was like waiting to come on the air here.
00:50 I'm like, wait a second.
00:50 Are they actually on the air here?
00:52 Yeah, but it's as it turns out you were so I hope we nominate
00:56 that segment as well to get another award here at Sports
00:59 Grid as we just continue to pile them up.
01:00 Listen, if yesterday's record prediction segment did not win
01:05 an award the opening segment of this third hour, wind rustling
01:09 in the background to echo what we were talking about inside
01:13 the friendly confines certainly backed it up.
01:16 It was me.
01:19 It was it was me.
01:20 I had a scissor.
01:21 I was cutting something live from South Beach.
01:24 What were you cutting?
01:24 Craig Minch.
01:25 I cut some cardboard.
01:27 I was cutting some cardboard here.
01:28 I get these boxes, you know, what happens is you order from
01:31 you know, Amazon and all these other places and then you know,
01:35 you can't I have a recycle bin here in Florida.
01:38 You put the recycle bin out.
01:39 I don't know how it works in New York and you know, Donny
01:41 sleeping usually so it doesn't matter but goes into you.
01:44 Yeah, you put those in the box, but they don't all fit.
01:47 So you got to like cut up the boxes and today is the recycling
01:50 day.
01:50 Gotcha.
01:51 And so I forgot to do it and you know, and look, you know,
01:55 I I'm a man of the people and a man of the scissors, but you
01:59 got it.
01:59 But Craig, you got to tell the people that you've been studying
02:02 each and every MLB recap from yesterday to get ready for this
02:05 full slate on a Tuesday.
02:07 Actually, you probably don't even need to study just a great
02:09 knowledge in your mind yesterday.
02:12 Craig the Yankees were the hottest team in Major League
02:14 Baseball seven consecutive wins, but that win streak was
02:18 snapped last night as they were looking for eight straight
02:21 because of an uncharacteristic performance out of Clay
02:25 Holmes today.
02:26 Once again up in the Bronx.
02:28 It's the Yankees and the Mariners does a new streak begin
02:32 as the Yanks are a minus 162 favorite at home.
02:35 Yeah.
02:36 I mean look, it's very possible.
02:37 I will say that on the flip side.
02:40 I do guys wonder what this does for Seattle.
02:43 I know we don't talk about them a lot here, but I kind of
02:46 lumped Seattle and Toronto in the same category to start the
02:50 season, which was if all went right, it could be a postseason
02:54 team and maybe go deep and if all went wrong, you could be
02:58 on the flip side of that.
02:59 Now all has gone wrong for Toronto.
03:01 They were, you know, one of those teams maybe middling around
03:03 the wild card last year.
03:04 You thought maybe they had a chance.
03:05 I think that's done Seattle because of the pitching they
03:08 have and you wonder what a win last night beating the Yankees
03:12 what that can do for the psyche of a team.
03:14 Can that propel them a little bit because that's a vision
03:16 is going to be formidable Houston as we'll talk about
03:18 seemingly is turning it around Texas.
03:21 We know is going to be there in the end.
03:22 They're going to get some guys back from injury too.
03:24 So I guess what I would say is I'm more curious to see where
03:27 the Mariners head right now because the Yankees are obviously
03:31 playing good baseball through the first two months of the
03:32 season.
03:33 Yeah, just to bring up the Houston Astros quickly with
03:36 the Craig the one thing that nobody's running away with
03:38 the West which keeps the Houston Astros right in the mix,
03:40 but that was a big win by the Mariners and also the Texas
03:42 Rangers due to tangle with the Philadelphia Phillies.
03:45 We'll see where they wind up.
03:46 But if we are taking a look at the Yankees themselves Aaron
03:49 judge heating up same thing as the weather another two base
03:51 hits yesterday hitting over 270 and since May 5th, how about
03:55 this a 438 average 7 home runs and 13 RBI.
03:59 The big man is back Craig in the middle of that lineup.
04:01 Yeah, and on fan duel if you want to bet to you know to
04:05 win the MVP, you got to take a Yankee pretty much at this
04:07 point because both Soto and judge are right there at the
04:10 top. And so look there's some narratives that sometimes these
04:13 guys split the vote and then somebody else will win.
04:15 And so maybe you should take a win or Henderson or someone
04:18 else, but no, I think look that the season.
04:22 That that judges had is predominantly been the last what
04:25 three weeks Donnie and the season that Soto has had has
04:28 been from day one getting in the Yankees uniform.
04:31 So my estimation would be if Soto continues to do this that
04:35 he would win the award.
04:36 I guess you would leave a light on for wit because of the
04:39 season. He's having it's going to be fantastic tougher market.
04:42 But look if Houston does come all the way back to win the
04:45 division or something insane like that guys Kyle Tucker has
04:48 15 home runs.
04:49 Yeah.
04:49 I mean, is this the most understated player right now in
04:51 baseball potentially?
04:52 So who's going to be do a huge contract coming up to I don't
04:55 know how Houston is going to handle this thing.
04:57 So I think the odds are fair first five guys.
05:00 My estimation would be one of those five probably wins the
05:03 MVP.
05:04 Rather competitive to just about five bucks separating the
05:08 top five prices and players to win the AL MVP Kyle Tucker a
05:13 late RBI yesterday as Houston tried to rally but an implosion
05:17 in the Bronx an implosion in H town as well a seven run fifth
05:22 inning for the Angels over Houston yesterday, including
05:26 three home runs the Astros lost as a greater than $2 favorite,
05:31 but that's where Houston with Christian Javier finds themselves
05:35 once again today on this Tuesday Craig against the Halos.
05:38 Do you expect a Houston bounce back today against the Angels?
05:42 I generally don't lay the run and a half of the home team.
05:45 I like to do that with the road team to ensure that extra at
05:48 bat. So probably more of a stay away or pair Houston with
05:52 another team today.
05:53 Ben you and I have talked about the Angels a ton.
05:55 They're going to lose either a hundred or close to a hundred
05:58 games and every once in a while.
05:59 They're going to win a game.
06:00 I mean, that's what baseball is.
06:01 But naturally what you got to see is this Houston bullpen get
06:04 itself, right?
06:04 I know hater a little bit better, but he's had a tough
06:07 season, you know, bullpens are so hard to figure guys every
06:10 year, you know, at the end of the season, you look back at
06:13 the postseason teams and you're like you look at Philly or
06:15 somebody say wow, that's the reason why they want but then
06:17 the next year.
06:17 I mean, remember how bad Philadelphia's bullpen was for
06:20 several years to from year to year.
06:21 You just don't know Houston is having that trouble this year.
06:24 They got to get that next if they want to go far.
06:25 So Craig when you look at Houston, what have you seen from
06:29 the Astros in the last week or so they've won eight or nine
06:34 of their last 12 games.
06:36 What have you seen out of Houston that maybe gives you
06:39 some confidence at the Astros are starting to find it.
06:41 Yeah.
06:42 Look, I think they're pitching isn't going to be as good as
06:44 it was in the past.
06:45 There's no Cole.
06:46 There's no Grinke Verlander is not the same.
06:48 Fran Braval does is not the same or Kitty is hurt Garcia
06:51 is hurt.
06:52 I mean, there's a lot of that going on.
06:53 They got the best pitcher was suspended for using some stuff.
06:56 So for me guys, it is it has got to be slugging their way
06:59 like Texas did last year.
07:01 Alex Bregman finally has seemed to figure it out and he's
07:05 a free agent at the end of the season.
07:06 I'm a big fan of that player.
07:08 If he continues to hit along with Altuve and Tucker and
07:12 Alvarez, it's formidable.
07:14 A lot more coming your way Major League Baseball and Craig
07:18 will see you on Newswire in just about 40 minutes more on
07:21 the early lineup next.
07:22 11 11.
07:25 That is the total for tonight at Wrigley Field between the
07:29 Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves.
07:31 We fly around Major League Baseball on this full Tuesday
07:34 slate here on the early line where the Cubbies will be inside
07:38 the friendly confines as the host of the Braves and yet Chicago
07:42 with Javier Assad who has been sensational this year is booked
07:46 as an underdog, but we'll get to the side in a moment DRS.
07:50 The story is the total the over-under is now 11 for tonight's
07:54 game inside Wrigley.
07:55 Yeah, Wrigley can get crazy at times and going back to my
07:59 Philadelphia Phillies fandom, which I was just a little
08:01 toddler at this point 1979.
08:03 The wind was blowing out in Wrigley.
08:04 Did you know the Phillies and the Cubs ended up a 2322 ball
08:08 game there now we saying it's going to get that high today.
08:10 No because the pitchers are actually very good today.
08:13 Charlie Morton's on the mound.
08:14 He's been great against right-handed pitching all season
08:17 long, but he does struggle a little bit with left-handed
08:20 bats, which is why we bring up Mike talkman and Cody Bellinger
08:22 on that list.
08:23 Now, here's the issue if there is anyone today when we usually
08:26 like to blow and typically blows at Wrigley.
08:28 It's straight in or straight out in center field today.
08:30 It's actually blowing up to left field, which means you probably
08:33 want that right-handed batter to sort of pull that baseball
08:36 up in the air get in that jet stream not to say lefties can't
08:39 do that but right-handed batters probably a little bit more
08:41 advantageous say a Suzuki batting second a lot of for the
08:44 Cubs 267 ISO power number against right-handed pitching this
08:48 season.
08:49 I should have said of the last 30 days has been hitting very
08:51 well.
08:51 But as I just told you more insusceptible to lefties not to
08:54 righties.
08:54 Let's flip it over to the other side for the Atlanta bats who
08:57 finally picked up a victory yesterday and the doubleheader
09:00 against San Diego Assad's going to be on the mound.
09:02 He has been tremendous Ben against both lefty and righty
09:05 batters.
09:05 Take a look at the last 30 days and 040 ice on a weighted on
09:08 base percentage of 228, which is absolutely incredible.
09:13 Now granted both of these pictures coming in with some
09:15 decent pedigree.
09:16 These lineups really should be able to get after him, but it's
09:19 one of those where well, I just wish it was more tomato cans
09:21 on the mound as opposed to really good pitching today.
09:24 It'll be interesting to see where it goes.
09:25 That RBI shots as I told you more like coming from the Cubs
09:28 side of those first four guys in the lineup, but I'm not in
09:30 love with this game.
09:31 I just want to watch this because it might be five to two
09:34 Ben at the end of three innings like man, you really should
09:36 have taken that over.
09:38 Dinger Tuesday on this Tuesday, our fan dual sports book as
09:42 well interleague intrigue almost the World Series matchup
09:47 from a year ago, but the Phillies falling short in the
09:49 NLCS to the Arizona Diamondbacks the reigning World Series
09:53 champs the Rangers a so-so start quite literally and even
09:56 500 to begin this year a day off for the Phil's yesterday
10:01 now back at home starting off a new series at the bank this
10:04 week Ranger Suarez on the bump for Philadelphia.
10:07 They're booked as a heavy - 172 home Moneyline favorite with
10:11 a total of eight and a half DRS, you know this.
10:14 Well, the Phillies have not lost a series since early April
10:17 the second of their year against Cincinnati.
10:20 Will that trend continue into the midweek set against Texas
10:23 and probably will continue because the Phillies just keep
10:26 on sending out good pitcher after good pitch here and they're
10:29 at home and finally a day of rest after playing such a long
10:31 streak of back-to-back games.
10:33 So let's take a look at this one, which is kind of a shame.
10:35 We just talked about the game in Wrigley winds blowing out
10:37 optimum conditions, but two good pitchers on the mound and
10:40 not great matchups.
10:42 If you're just looking from pitcher to hitter, we're getting
10:44 that same type of thing today been in Philadelphia 80 degrees
10:47 at first pitch with nine Monarch winds blowing out to right
10:50 field. This should be perfect because that Phillies lineup
10:52 loves to absolutely hammer the baseball at home.
10:54 We take a look at John Graves a right-handed pitcher.
10:56 Look at his last 30 days been 127 batters.
10:58 He's faced an 074 ISO and a 251 weighted on base percentage
11:03 that stinks because why we would have loved to pick on some
11:06 Philadelphia Phillies bats same thing vice versa on that Rangers
11:09 lineup that hasn't done all that well against left-handed
11:11 pitching maybe going up against the best pitcher in baseball
11:13 and Ranger Suarez who is damn near being unhittable for the
11:16 season and the past 30 days to shame the waste this environment
11:19 in that ballpark to get wind blowing on 80 80 80, excuse me,
11:23 80 degrees and eight Monarch winds blowing out.
11:25 That's a shame right here.
11:26 So I am predicting an under but you know, I'm not betting that
11:29 this game could pop off but to shame that these two pitchers
11:32 really match up.
11:33 Well, eight and a half is that total the Phil's have won 11
11:37 of their last 13 series.
11:39 They have not lost in 13 consecutive series.
11:42 They have split a couple of four game sets.
11:46 Now we go to st.
11:47 Louis yesterday.
11:47 It was a great day.
11:49 Sunny gray and the cards win as a home Moneyline favorite
11:53 six to three over Baltimore today.
11:55 It's the other birds the O's as a road favorite under the
11:58 arch. Yeah, by the way, Lance Link comes into this game struggling
12:02 this year against left-handed batters 111 total in the season
12:05 to 180 ISO and a 359 weighted on base percentage.
12:07 If we just take a look at a snapshot of the past 30 days,
12:11 that's actually in elevates to a 216 ISO and a 412 weighted
12:15 on base percentage.
12:16 So look no further than the first part of that lineup Henderson
12:19 and Rutschman to really good shots at home runs today.
12:22 And if we take a look at the temperatures here boys 84 degrees
12:26 with 17 Mount our winds blowing out, but it's to left field,
12:30 but still a good hitting environment today.
12:32 Now that might be your spot on Dinger Tuesday.
12:36 Hey.
12:37 (upbeat music)
12:39 [MUSIC]
