00:15I like that when reporters ask questions that the fans really want to know.
00:19There were people trying to call in with this theory last week.
00:22Well, Mary Kay asked it.
00:23Mary Kay asked it yesterday.
00:25And rightfully so.
00:27And I thought that you, because I didn't know exactly where you were going to take it,
00:31because I was a little unsure about the rule itself.
00:35But you were pretty level-headed about it.
00:37And we're like, well, wait a minute.
00:38Are we sure this is even going to happen?
00:40Or is this something that's just said to kind of throw Jacksonville off
00:44to maybe spend an extra 15 minutes on something else?
00:48Is it something a little bit extra to spend on something else?
00:52Because, you know, if it turns into Talon Green ends up being the backup,
00:57and you can't do some of the things that some people have thought
01:00because he would be the backup, then I do think we get a conversation going,
01:03what are we doing?
01:04Are we just holding on to a guy because we don't want to hurt anybody's feelings?
01:07Or are we actually, like, trying to put this thing together
01:10and bring people along the right way?
01:12I thought that he answered it well,
01:13but I thought that you really gave a reasonable response to all this.
01:17Yeah, and I see people going after Mary Kay.
01:18Hey, all she did is say that Todd is keeping it open-ended right now,
01:26which is what a lot of coaches do.
01:27I'm not even, you know, assigning any kind of level of genius to it.
01:32I think, like, if you're Jacksonville,
01:34you have no idea what to prepare for anyway.
01:36It's one of the advantages, honestly, that the Browns might have
01:39that teams in the Browns situation,
01:41they do have these early season little advantages that,
01:44especially when it's a new head coach,
01:45what is Jacksonville looking at?
01:47What kind of tape are they looking at?
01:48Are they looking at preseason when we're throwing to, you know,
01:52Luke Floria every play?
01:54Like, what kind of information,
01:57what kind of advanced scouting are you going to be able to glean from that anyway?
02:00Because he could come out there on Sunday and you could say,
02:03well, you ain't got the pills to throw it on the situation.
02:06I mean, you could always try to do that,
02:07but if it's anything that helps,
02:09if it's anything that helps him do it,
02:11he's going to look like an absolute genius.
02:13The conversation, though, it turns into, you know,
02:17how important is that third emergency quarterback?
02:20Or if you wanted to keep three guys active, how could you do it?
02:24Todd Munkin himself said that they really don't want to keep three guys active.
02:28Am I mistaken on that?
02:30I want to make sure,
02:31because I don't believe he seemed very interested in keeping three guys active there.
02:34So, because you need guys at other positions.
02:36You need them to fill a special teams role,
02:38and I just can't send Taylor Greene down gunning on punt team and things like that.
02:42So, that's going to be something to pay attention to.
02:44The every week captaincy.
02:49So, this is where I'm at on it.
02:50He says he likes the idea.
02:53There's so many.
02:55See, I'm torn.
02:56Because I think a captaincy is supposed to matter.
03:00Now, I never knew that much about captains in the NFL
03:03before they started putting C's on their chest.
03:05I imagine they had captains before.
03:07It was just voted on,
03:08and those were the four guys that line up ahead of everybody in the team picture,
03:12whatever it may be.
03:15Captaincy should matter, shouldn't it?
03:17And if you make it a week-to-week thing,
03:20you know, who do you go for for leadership at all the time?
03:23Like, somebody has to, like, the buck has to stop somewhere.
03:28They can't all be leaders.

03:33Like, you want to get some leadership quality out of everybody.
03:35You want to pull people together.
03:36But, I mean, leadership is leadership.
03:38There's guys that are in charge,
03:40and then there's people who are meant to follow.
03:41That is the natural order of things.
03:44I've routinely brought this up.
03:46Anytime we get into a discussion about leadership,
03:48and I'm like, man, this is always such a moving target.
03:53And in our minds, what we think about when it comes to leadership is
03:57Ray Lewis getting everybody around him
03:59and him getting everybody fired up to go out there on the field.
04:02It's like, was that leadership or Ray Lewis is a Hall of Famer,
04:05and him and his play on the field met way more than his pump-up speeches
04:10to get guys ready for kickoff?
04:13Because, you know, yeah, give a great speech.
04:15Is that leadership?
04:16Is it, you know, who are you turning to on the sidelines after an interception?
04:20Like, what does it mean?
04:21Is this something we as fans talk about a lot more?
04:24Because I think there is a – I think it is.
04:27I think it's to everybody.
04:28Because I think a good captain makes you feel better
04:30and more confident about the situation that you're dealing with.
04:33You are going to be in a foxhole.
04:35So if you are amongst that team and you have good captains that are there
04:39that back up what they do and back up what they say
04:42because they're good football players,
04:43they can back that up and then they can lead
04:46and then back up those words, I think that that helps.
04:48I think it helps a fan base if you're going through stuff.
04:51Like, they were not always – like, we remember the Ravens with Ray Lewis
04:55to be a sensational football team.
04:57You know, there were some lean years in there.
04:59They went through a coaching change during Ray Lewis' tenure there.
05:02And it's always kind of a thing like, okay, we got this guy
05:05who's still going to be able to do this, that, and the other
05:08and bring people together and keep the fan base together.
05:11Like, you never really have that.
05:13And I do think with such a young football team,
05:15like they just talked about youth, I would like to set the tone
05:19with who's going to be my leader for my football team
05:22for the foreseeable future.
05:23And I think that we have our names there.
05:26But the weekly thing, I saw what his point was.
05:30I understand his point.
05:32But I think I'd rather just have four captains.
05:35This is who it is.
05:37This is where the buck stops.
05:38Go to these guys.
05:39Like, that's kind of where I'm at on it.
05:41That's, I, I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill here.
05:45I don't think captaincy means that much to NFL football fans
05:50until you make a guy a captain who's a pretty unpopular figure
05:54and then you take the captaincy away from an extremely popular figure,
05:57which is what happened here.
05:58It doesn't matter until we can use it against them.
06:01Well, I did see a lot of people online when they caught wind of this
06:07say that the reason they're doing it week to week
06:09is because the assumption is Deshaun Watson's going to lose his job
06:12as the starting quarterback.
06:13But you don't need to make the quarterback the captain.
06:16I don't need to make the quarterback the captain.
06:18But that's a storyline, right?
06:19If the quarterback isn't the leader.
06:20That's a huge storyline.
06:20It is a storyline.
06:21It was a storyline then.
06:22But if the quarterback isn't a leader,
06:23I don't need to make the guy a captain.
06:25I know he plays the most important position,
06:27but on what planet do we think that he should be a captain
06:29on this football team?
06:30Well, now, wait a second.

06:31Okay, you're talking about, like, captaincy
06:34as if there's a relationship to the fans.
06:37If he is an actual leader in the locker room.
06:41Then what's it matter if he's playing or not?
06:43And they see that,
06:44then there's nothing wrong with making him the captain there.
06:47The question is, can he do that from the bench
06:49if he's not starting?
06:51Like, they all can't be Jameis Winston.
06:53And even when Jameis, we talked about that with Jameis,
06:56like, ah, can a guy on the bench really be a captain?
06:59Can he really be a leader?
07:00Don't they need to be on the field, you know,
07:03with the trials and tribulations of a football team
07:06experiencing all of that first hand?
07:08I understand that.
07:09Listen, I think that there's a point to that,
07:12but I also think that if you don't believe
07:14your quarterback should be the captain,
07:16then I don't need to make the guy the captain.
07:18And I understand that I'm talking about a difference
07:20between the fans and the players.
07:21I do think that he is liked within that locker room.
07:24I think that people don't, I think that they look at it like,
07:28hey, whatever's happened in the past,
07:29that's his business, that's not mine,
07:31this is a professional organization,
07:32and I'm supposed to go out there and do my job.
07:34I can't be worried about what has happened
07:36or did not happen in the past
07:37or any accusations in the past
07:39if I'm a player for the Cleveland Browns.
07:41I think that that's probably,
07:42if you were like the left guard, Anthony,
07:44I think that that would be the most,
07:47that would be the best, healthiest way
07:49to look at all this.
07:50So he might have that,
07:52but it's up to him to still play well
07:54and to lead,
07:55and then if he doesn't play well,
07:58you still have to be in a position of leadership.
08:00So now we have this situation
08:02where I can still find leaders on a football team
08:04even if my quarterback isn't the starting,
08:06isn't the captain.
08:08Like you can't name four leaders on this football team
08:10to give it to, special teams, defense, offense,
08:12an extra one, you can't do that.
08:14Denzel Ward, captain,
08:16you would look at special teams,
08:17like Rex Sunoharo would probably be your captain
08:20for that, long snapper.
08:21You want to look offensively?
08:23I'm sure you could find,
08:25let me pull out the name.
08:27Do you want to make Harold Fannin Jr. your captain?
08:30Do you want to make one of your offensive linemen?
08:32Like it's Spencer Fano.
08:33Do you want to make him the captain?
08:35Cornerstone of the franchise, strong-willed,
08:37there it is, and Jared Verse.
08:39Boom, four captains, away you go.
08:41It's very easy when I say it,
08:43I'm not in the locker room every day,
08:44but I do think that there should be a place
08:48where it is relying upon you.
08:50This is your football team.
08:52They're going to sink and swim with you four guys.
08:55And if they don't,
08:56I can sit here and scream and yell,
08:58but I'm just a giant cheerleader
08:59in the end of all of this.
09:01I'll try to call the right offense, defense,
09:03whatever it is.
09:04But in the end of this,
09:05you're the ones who got to play the game.
09:06You're the ones who got to get in the huddle.
09:08You're the ones who have to look each other in the eye.
