00:27we'll do quick predicts as we do each and uh every friday where you'll have the opportunity to tell
00:33us the score of the brown steelers game and then give us monday morning's headline want to remind
00:37you that when we talk football on 92.3 the fan is brought to you by xfinity introducing xfinity
00:44shield a force field for your home team let's get a little bit more insight into today's game or
00:49sunday's game i should say with the browns and the steelers we bring in a super friend to the show
00:53of
00:54course he's a former running back for your cleveland browns um top 25 all time i'll put it that way
01:00i know he's not happy that i just said that and he's also a track coach at a local high
01:05school as
01:05well his team won the well what was the state runner-up in the boys last year for their division
01:10he is jamel white and he's on the wiser right we make it right call kyle right hotline hi jamel
01:16what's good man how's everybody you you you're good how are you uh you know just trying to make it
01:23chilling being black that's about it i love that response that's great that's great
01:31i don't even have a i don't even have a comeback i can't even say anything
01:34you you shouldn't i mean and why you always got to start off everything with top 25 man let it
01:39go
01:39don't why should i let it go we should be proud of that you be proud of that do you
01:44realize look at
01:45the franchise that you played for listen you gotta let it go you just gotta let just just gotta let
01:52it
01:52go just be like oh it's jamel that's it that's all you gotta say i mean it is what it
01:57is other
01:58stuff is cool but the top 25 i kind of feel it's kind of garbage for me but that's okay
02:03why is that
02:04garbage why is that garbage to say you're a top 25 running back in brown's history well we could do
02:10because it's just like it's like somebody saying i can't even i don't even have a good no you don't
02:16because i'm right on this one you might you might be okay you might be right why can't i be
02:21proud of
02:21your accomplishments you can i mean i appreciate that you're proud of that accomplishment of being
02:28the 25th yeah i don't even i think you're high no you're 20 oh dude i have bad news what's
02:36up
02:36you're now 26 i just checked it out yeah dang it it's just keep getting worse who passed you up
02:43listen let's not listen if you're not number one then you know i mean i know that's like ricky bobby
02:50if you're not first you're last huh yeah i mean it's just what it is i know you don't want
02:55to sit
02:55in your accolades here at all but do you remember how many yards you had no i do not you
03:00remember how
03:00any touchdowns you had no i do not i'm just making sure i'm just i mean i mean i don't
03:06keep
03:06up with that once once that part of my life was over it was over 13 you had 1300 i'm
03:12just looking
03:12here anyway uh can we get to the the current day browns uh first of all like unfortunately you played
03:19for the ravens for a little bit too right so i'm just curious when we sit here and we talk
03:24about the
03:25rivalry between the browns and the steelers what does that actually mean when you're a player
03:31do you get like normally like i only talk about when i play you just had a lot of garbage
03:38talking
03:38during the week man and it and it comes from both teams and it's just like um all in fun
03:44but then
03:45it's like you hit the field and it gets real real quick and it's like what's the best analogy it's
03:53like
03:54gang banging without it's like being a part of a gang without you know colors you know
04:00what i mean it's just it's just going out there and you just you fight before the game like i'll
04:06be
04:06surprised if there's not a fight that breaks out before that game tomorrow did you have any fights
04:10do you remember fighting have any fights with these guys no i didn't not me personally guys on your team
04:16yeah well yeah dudes on my team yeah they'll go out there like but the crazy part is they don't
04:24fight
04:24pre-game when i say pre-game it's like you don't have your pads on and all that stuff you
04:30out there
04:30warming up so there's never no fight going on there because you ain't got nothing to protect you
04:35but then next thing you know you get in you get your helmet and you get all your pads on
04:40and it's
04:40like okay it's time to go fight i'm protected you know what i mean
04:46so jamel off of that because you know tom munkin talked this week about he's not really talking
04:52about like the history with pittsburgh and not winning there since 2003 in the regular season
04:56and all these things but i mean how aware as a player are you of those things and and even
05:02though
05:02they try to simplify it down to just being another game when you're actually out there playing does it
05:08feel like is there sort of a sense of this game means a little bit more i don't know like
05:16necessarily like for some people it's a little different and i know from franchise to like for
05:21the franchise itself it's probably more of that than for the players because i think like when the
05:28players go out there it's like if you've been talking in the newspaper or if you've been saying
05:35something about us as a team then we got some issues so now we got to go get busy but
05:43i think
05:43as a player individually you want to go out and do the best at any game it don't matter if
05:48they're
05:48your rival or not your rival i think the rival stuff is just things that happen over years if you
05:54think about baltimore and cleveland you would think that would be a bigger rival because
06:03people feel as if oh well they stole the browns and blah blah blah you would think that would be
06:08a
06:08bigger rival than the stealers and the browns but it's it's not it's like when you know when they come
06:14or you know or if we go there if they come here it's it's not that much action on the
06:20field it's not
06:21like people trying to fight or anything like that you know i mean so i think it's it's more of
06:25how it's
06:26perceived and put out there in a community and also in the locker room because the players feel
06:32that part i think it's more of the the stats behind it when it comes down to we won this
06:38many times
06:38compared to how you went you don't think about that you just think about the game that day was it
06:42weird though when you came back after playing here for what four years and then ending up in baltimore
06:48and then and then i don't know did you play a game for the ravens here in town i'm trying
06:52to
06:52remember oh yeah yeah yeah okay well yeah it was weird but you know what it wasn't weird for me
06:57i mean i loved playing for the browns man because here in this community it's awesome like i i enjoyed
07:05all the fans i was really big in the community and i i went out every tuesday and whenever somebody
07:10needed something but the best thing for me is when i did come back and i played against the browns
07:18there was there was no booze there was no craziness like i went out pre-season i mean pre-game
07:25and people were talking to me i was talking to them so i didn't have i think like any athlete
07:31you
07:32should be you know thankful for the team that you start off with and be good in that community and
07:37they at least my experience is i i just didn't have a rough time when i came back here and
07:42played it's
07:43like i never left all right let me let me dive into this week's game especially when you look at
07:48what the browns are able to do it with the fact that you've got dylan sampson and quinch on junk
07:53it's healthy and able to play can you just touch on what that means when you do have your you
07:58know
07:58your two number one running backs or one one a running backs back in the lineup well you got to
08:04find
08:04a way to incorporate them into the game man because you can see you you see what they do um
08:09when both
08:10of them are healthy you know like those days of you know you you had a four down running back
08:16those days are over with now like you got to be able to split it up and keeping guys healthy
08:21so
08:21i think having both of them in you got to kind of try and establish a running game and then
08:27you got a
08:28screen game then that opens up the passing game a little bit more um for deshaun so i i think
08:36having
08:37people healthy just in general just gives you more opportunities to incorporate your players that
08:44can the big play players into into your game plan with that said what did you think the browns found
08:52in their run game last week uh it had been such a struggle the previous six weeks obviously
08:57you know was it as simple as getting those guys back healthy or you know were there other signs that
09:02that this thing could sort of be replicable as they they continue on the season here i you know
09:07what man like i was looking when i was watching the game last week it's i think the best thing
09:14for the
09:14browns this year just in general for the running game passing game and all it's just the confidence
09:19that they have right now you know i mean like you start off the season and people are looking at
09:25you
09:25first you have a quarterback problem then that's not really a problem then you have how many games
09:33are these guys going to win everybody had them at oh they're going to only win four games well
09:38dude like they're proving everybody wrong so i think having you know going in with all the confidence
09:46that they have right now i think that's one of the biggest things and if you really look at it
09:51like
09:51i'm not like per se a football fan but when you look at offense and defense
10:01i believe and this is just my belief even though it's coming down to in the game sometime the score
10:09is not high you know i mean the offense is staying on the field the defense is getting off the
10:14field
10:15i think they're complementing each other pretty well right now i mean there's things that they
10:19go work out but i i just think they're they're playing with a ton of confidence uh jabal what is
10:24the reality of being behind five new offensive linemen and having rookie wide receivers out on
10:30the field yeah like i look at it and i'm just like man i just can't it's it's hard and
10:35it's weird
10:36because i think they get better throughout the game and i don't know if that's because they go into
10:40the hurry up offense or what's going on there but it just what's the reality for a running back when
10:45you're trying to run behind five guys that had never played together before and now they're
10:49getting i think they're getting better each week but it still takes time yeah it does man like
10:57like you you think about a cohesive group of people right like so if me and you were on a
11:04team forever
11:05and we have you know a solidified group of guys we know what we're capable of doing
11:13each game they have to well it starts at practice you have to start building on that you know what
11:19i
11:19mean so once you step out on the field and as the game goes along you start finding out what
11:27each other
11:28what each guy does good and for a running back at least for me i gotta have trust in you
11:34when i know
11:36that you're supposed to pull and get your block but same thing for alignment he has to have trust
11:42in the running back that you're gonna read the hole properly you're not gonna make my block look crazy
11:46because little do people know running backs can mess up a block that alignment has that he's on like
11:52if i take one step at the ball so if i'm supposed to go inside and i step out or
11:57if i step in and make
11:58him crash that hole i'm i may have made his block look bad but his block is good so you
12:04know it is
12:05having new guys out there and for uh you know a running back and for these running backs uh you
12:12know
12:12one pretty much brand new to the league was his second year so if if you think about it he's
12:19still
12:19brand new to it so i think getting that cohesive group together once they start kind of meshing a
12:24little bit i think the running game is going to take off man jamelle what does it say about this
12:31group especially with how young they are that and this in the nfl there's so many one score games
12:36right like so many of these games come down to like a last drive or the last few minutes so
12:40that's
12:40that's not necessarily abnormal but for this browns team as young as they are you know inexperienced
12:46certainly across the roster a lot of the core guys are in year one or two what does it say
12:50that
12:50they've already kind of established this callousness if you will where it's like
12:56nothing phases them in those moments how difficult is that to develop and and and how impressive is
13:01that that this team kind of already has that about them it's awesome to see man because that's a veteran
13:06thing right because if you've been in the league for a minute you know that that's expected of you
13:12that's expected for you to you know to have that but these dudes are young man and for them this
13:21they got swagger to them you know i mean like you could you could see it on the field you
13:27know and
13:28they actually like each other so the goal has to be for the browns is to keep the group together
13:34you know i mean to where heads don't get too big to where i think i deserve more but the
13:40things that
13:41they do man it's just amazing to watch them play like i i enjoy watching them play like i don't
13:47usually watch football like that but when i watch these dudes like they come out and they all play
13:54like they like they veterans a little bit like they all have their own little way of going about things
13:59what are your thoughts on deshaun and where he's going with this thing and you know i i think a
14:04lot of
14:04people as you said earlier no one expected them to win four games but i also think they didn't take
14:10into consideration that deshaun could knock some rust off and and at least return to somewhat of
14:17what we saw him of him in houston so i like give me your thoughts on deshaun and where you
14:22are with
14:23him and you know there's a trade deadline coming up here too so and they're carrying four quarterbacks
14:28well i can tell you this man all the personal stuff about him aside dude i was having to talk
14:37with
14:37somebody about him before they was like oh he's just listen all the doubters and people that
14:45weren't on his side or whatever the case is the the one thing about it all is
14:52when you come back from the injury that he had and all the personal stuff he had and now
14:59he's performing like the person that they paid it it changes people's personality or not personality but
15:07opinions of how they thought about you before you know what i mean so i think he's doing an amazing
15:14job he's making good choices he's not you know he's extending plays he's doing big things now at the
15:21same time though like you said that trade deadline is coming up he showed that he could still he could
15:27still get busy are they letting them play to trade them but at the same time you got these other
15:35quarterbacks that's sitting in back of them you know and everybody wants to see shador go out and play and
15:41you know gabriel i don't know what's gonna happen to him but like you like you said there's there's a
15:47lot of
15:47quarterbacks on the team and you if you're trying to do what's best for your franchise you got to trade
15:54somebody we'll see what happens we will shall see jamel thank you very much we always appreciate your time and
16:00good luck to you and all of your current endeavors my friend thanks jamel i appreciate you guys all
16:06right we'll talk to you soon jamel white former browns running back joining us on the wise heart
16:10right we make it right call kyle right hotline uh you know a lot of things to kind of kick
16:16around
16:16there too uh we're going to talk about the running game when we come back here in a second you
16:20really
16:20think they would trade to sean no they can't yeah well and like the money of it they can't either
16:25i think
16:26in the normal kind of sense of things if they were 500 and the contract wasn't there we'd probably be
16:35talking about that but i don't think that that's even anywhere he's like the one that's immovable
16:38yeah i think for sure yeah i don't think so i i mean i can understand from a big picture
16:43standpoint
16:43thinking oh i wonder if they could but they're not there's no way you're going to do that you're too
16:47close to to being six and two and he's playing better every week so it's interesting 216-474-0092 that's
16:54the
16:54number to call in all right we're going to talk a little bit more running backs we're going to get
16:57to ohio state at noon two keys and a lock coming up at one o'clock todd munkin's press conference
17:02quick predicts all straight ahead spencer german is in today for jeff phelps it's baskin and phelps
