Would anything make Western Michigan players or coaches feel better about the loss?
Transcript
00:00Ah, great to have you guys with us. Mark Ryan in for Mike Valenzi alongside my main man Rico Beard
00:07today.
00:08And we are jammed from beginning to end here. Here's what's coming up. A blip or a trend? Blip or
00:19a cause for concern?
00:20The SEC wouldn't dare expel one of their golden gooses, or would they?
00:27Okay. The real reason why one of our teams has no general manager here and an unfortunate incident that happened
00:38to David and unbelievably happened to me today as well.
00:42It's great to be here. What's going on?
00:44Yeah, you guys have been whispering about that unfortunate incident. I have no idea what you are talking about, but
00:51I will wait because you purposely kept me in the dark.
00:55So apparently you want my natural reaction.
00:57Yeah, we want the natural. That's what we do. If you have like a story, you don't tell Rico off
01:02the air, you tell him on the air.
01:03So I can see the smoke coming out of his ears when it's going live.
01:07But talking about smoke coming out of your ears, if there's one thing that I need in sports, it's justice.
01:14There's nothing that pisses me off more than injustice.
01:20I'm not a Michigan fan. I'm not a Western Michigan fan.
01:24But I tend to pull for the underdog.
01:26And when a team is 0 for freaking 33 in the history of their existence in beating top 20 teams,
01:34and they've gotten Michigan beat dead to rights, and then one of the greatest injustices I've ever seen takes place
01:44in front of your eyes, you know what's threatened when that happens?
01:48One of the three pillars of any good relationship, trust, love, and commitment, right?
01:53The three pillars.
01:54What's the first one there?
01:56T, TLC, like the group.
01:59Trust is violated.
02:02I'm watching sports now, and I tried to watch the Ole Miss-Louisville game on Sunday.
02:07I watched some of the Florida State debacle last night, enjoyed that one thoroughly.
02:14But I'm watching this now with such a skeptical eye, and I find cynicism and skepticism to be such a
02:25negative emotion.
02:26I've lost my trust in terms of what I see.
02:30I almost feel like I'm watching professional wrestling when I watch sports these days.
02:34You just nailed it.
02:36It's turning into wrestling.
02:37It's turning into WWE, where you don't know who's going to win, but you already know it's predetermined.
02:44Trust, I'll give you that, Mark.
02:46I'll raise your trust with respect.
02:51You lose respect.
02:52You lose trust.
02:53All of that is out the window.
02:54The credibility is gone that you don't believe the product that you're watching.
02:59You're a scripted TV show.
03:00You're the air quote reality TV, which isn't really reality TV.
03:04You already know this has been predetermined.
03:08That's what I saw Saturday night.
03:11I likened it, or should we say on this show, I hearkened it to watching, for those who watched the
03:19series Game of Thrones, it took you on this fantastic ride.
03:24The ups and the downs.
03:25It killed off key players.
03:27You're waiting for the end.
03:28You got to the final episode, and you were like, I've spent the last eight years watching this show for
03:36you to give me this garbage, and it just tainted the whole thing.
03:40And watching that game Saturday felt that way.
03:43Watching that game Saturday was like, wait, wait, wait.
03:45This was fun.
03:47This was fun to watch, because the whole time you're watching, you're thinking, okay, Michigan's going to kick it in
03:51gear.
03:51They're going to kick it in gear.
03:52And then all of a sudden, for me, Western goes on that 13-minute drive.
03:56It's like, wait a minute.
03:58Michigan can lose this game.
04:00Bryce fumbles.
04:01Oh, crap.
04:02This is about to happen.
04:04And I'm feeling good.
04:06Like, okay, Western Michigan, you deserve this.
04:09You've earned this.
04:10Why?
04:10Because this wouldn't have been a fluke win for you.
04:12You were the better team tonight.
04:14And you know, Mark, you've often seen where the better team doesn't win.
04:18Well, you saw that Saturday.
04:19Because if Western was the better team, game was over, we all saw it.
04:24Everybody saw it, man.
04:25You could gaslight me and tell me whatever it is.
04:29Everybody saw the play happen.
04:30You saw the clock hit zero.
04:32You saw 18 from Western touch the ball.
04:34He intercepts it.
04:35They go off and celebrate.
04:36And then somehow or another, as you like to say, your trust got violated.
04:41Because, wait a minute, we have to review.
04:44What is there to review?
04:45He threw the ball, out of bounds, intercepted.
04:49Like, there was nothing.
04:51We have never done that in football.
04:53You do that in basketball with a tenths of second.
04:56And the reason you don't do that in football is because football doesn't need the stupid
05:00tenths of a second.
05:02You called it out of bounds.
05:04That falls under, in my opinion, not a reviewable play.
05:07But the BS began on Western Michigan's field goal.
05:12Rico, 38 seconds left, they go to kick the field goal.
05:16When the kicker's foot makes contact with the ball, there were 36 seconds left.
05:22You mean to tell me the entire time the ball is in the air, it hits the net, it drops
05:27down
05:27to the ground, 35 seconds?
05:29The whole play?
05:32When his foot touched the ball, there were 36 seconds left.
05:35They said the whole play was three seconds.
05:37Then there were eight seconds.
05:39They added nine.
05:40Okay?
05:41So you had another chance.
05:42Bryce throws the ball with three seconds to go, but it only took him two seconds to throw
05:46the ball 50 yards.
05:48Right.
05:48And then think about this.
05:51When they said, let's reset the clocks from eight to nine.
05:56Think about this for a minute.
05:58How the hell do you not have everything perfectly synced when you just sync them?
06:03You literally just sync them.
06:07This is corruption.
06:08This is robbery.
06:10This is criminal.
06:11And I give a lot of Michigan fans credit who say, I'd like to give that win to Michigan,
06:16but there's some of them who are pulling a muscle with the stretches that they're coming
06:19up with.
06:20I'm glad you said that because let me address that first.
06:22Because I did, I did a pod right the next day because I never do it right after a game
06:27because I learned, let the emotions die down a little bit.
06:30So you don't say anything stupid and I'm not in Jimmy's office.
06:33So next day, Michigan, this isn't on you.
06:39You're going to have to wear this because you benefited from it.
06:43Not on you this time.
06:45You didn't actually cheat, but you benefited from the discrepancy.
06:50The problem that I had with it is you said it.
06:54With nine seconds to go, put nine seconds back on the clock.
06:58Okay.
06:59Nine seconds.
06:59Nine seconds.
07:00Nine seconds.
07:00You got nine.
07:01Everybody syncs.
07:01Everybody syncs.
07:02We got nine seconds.
07:03Nine seconds.
07:03Go.
07:04Play goes.
07:05You see it.
07:06They roll.
07:06And they're like, you got enough time for two plays.
07:09Bryce said, nope.
07:10F it.
07:10YOLO.
07:11Throwing it all the way deep.
07:12Deep and incomplete clock is at double zeros before the guy touches the ball.
07:18So because you guys effed up, now Western doesn't get the win.
07:21But see, that's what I don't think they did because I like what NBC did.
07:25They came out there and said, no, no, no.
07:27Let's watch it again.
07:28Look at the clock.
07:29Look at the play.
07:30Zero.
07:31I don't see how there's any discrepancy.
07:33I was thinking it was Terry McCauley.
07:35And I was like, yeah, you're right.
07:36Terry McCauley, you are correct.
07:39That's what I saw.
07:40That's what my eyes saw.
07:41That's what you've been told your entire life is the play clock is the absolute.
07:47When that hits zero, that's it.
07:50You're done.
07:51The Big Ten, I stayed up for this.
07:54Two hours later, they give you the statement along with this weird piece together video of you hear people talking
08:03over the back of the end zone.
08:06Horrible angle.
08:08And then they pull up some image, Getty image of a clock saying one and they juxtapose them together.
08:16See, it's proven.
08:18What?
08:19That proves nothing.
08:21No, it proves they made a mistake when they had a chance to sync the clocks with nine seconds left.
08:25Big Ten.
08:25And they're penalizing Western Michigan for their own damn mistake.
08:29It's always been the game clock.
08:31Brother.
08:31It has always been the game clock.
08:33When they came out and pretty much without saying it, well, if number 18 on Western wouldn't have touched the
08:38ball, they would have won the game.
08:39So you're blaming the kid for touching the ball after the game was over.
08:44He's the reason why.
08:45How about you?
08:46Because here's what I'll say to the Big Ten.
08:48If you want to sit here and say we're correct because we got a secret clock that you don't know
08:54about.
08:55Show me all nine seconds that you saw with your clock because it's not going to take all day.
09:02It's nine seconds of video uninterrupted.
09:05Don't slow it down.
09:07Show me the whole thing.
09:08Don't show me some little piece of the last second because anybody, there's no stop.
09:14There's no clock with it.
09:15There's nothing.
09:16But the funny thing is, too, there's a handful of Michigan fans who will just say, yeah, you know what?
09:22And it's okay, Michigan fans.
09:23We got lucky.
09:24We got lucky on that.
09:25I respect those fans.
09:26We got lucky because sometimes in sports, anybody who's followed enough sports knows sometimes it's better to be lucky than
09:32to be good.
09:33Sometimes the sports guy just smiles upon you and you get gifted a game or gifted a situation.
09:40We've all got a first down where you're like, ooh, that wasn't a first down, but I'll take that.
09:44Not going to argue it.
09:45But what amazes me are the Michigan fans who are going to all types of gymnastics and lengths to say,
09:51no, but if you listen to this and you listen to that and you listen and you hear the Big
09:54Ten proved the Big Ten didn't prove Jack's squat.
09:57The Big Ten basically lied to you.
10:00Let's just call it what it is.
10:02They lied to you, and guess what happens now, Mark?
10:05They have to die with the lie.
10:07They can't come back and say we're sorry.
10:09They can't pull a Jim Joyce who immediately, after he screwed up Galarraga's complete game, I screwed this thing up.
10:16I feel bad for that kid.
10:17We moved on.
10:19The Big Ten lied.
10:20They compounded the lie, and now they've got to die with the lie.
10:23And, yeah, I do think that they told the Mac in Western Michigan, you guys like making money, right?
10:30Yeah, that's the other thing.
10:31Hey, why was Lance so conciliatory in the loss?
10:38I can think of a million and a half reasons.
10:40How come the Western Michigan, yeah, because someone walked up to that podium and said, hey, guys, here's my name
10:48for my GoFundMe, because I'm about to get a fine like you've never seen before.
10:53So if you want to contribute to this, Western fans, go ahead and just add it to it.
10:57There was a phone call from the Mac commissioner to Western Michigan saying, I need you to take one for
11:01the team.
11:02This relationship is worth tens of millions of dollars for our conference every single year, and you going berserk is
11:10not going to change anything about this outcome.
11:12We need you to take one for the team.
11:13That undoubtedly, why did Western Michigan have no problem with it?
11:16Oh, here's the – no, shut up.
11:19The reality is that was one of the biggest injustices I have ever seen in sports, and I'm still not
11:25over it.
11:27Bruh, if you're here long enough, you realize that Michigan is just a spoiled rich kid who will always get
11:33out of that DUI because rich daddy's going to come in there and talk to the judge and make sure
11:38everything's going to be smoothed out.
11:40He's – they're the ne'er-do-well who keeps falling up in life.
11:44But it always works in their favor, though.
11:46That's what I just said.
11:47It always works in their favor.
11:48They fall up in life, no matter what.
11:51So stay here long enough, and nothing will surprise you when it comes to the University of Michigan.
11:56Michigan has started their own escape room business.
11:58Which escape is most impressive?
11:59Is it the sign stealing?
12:01Is it the Sharon Moore stuff just drifting away on to sea?
12:04Is this the most impressive escape that they've had?
12:07They've got their own escape room business.
12:08Which escape room do you want to do?
12:10I mean, Harbaugh and the amount of felons he had on his staff and the amount of people who got
12:14arrested.
12:15We just whistled past the graveyard with that.
12:18But you stay here long enough, and nothing surprises you when it comes to that school.
12:24The irony is, this one time – and I'm going to say it again for the people.
12:29David, tell your brother that this wasn't on Michigan.
12:33This wasn't their fault.
12:35They had nothing to do with it.
12:38Michigan did what every other team would have done.
12:41If you're going to give me an extra chance, I'm going to take that chance.
12:45Do you see Kyle Whittingham say after the game, there was no time left?
12:48There was no time.
12:49He knew.
12:49He knew.
12:50He knew.
12:50All right.
12:51All right.
