00:00Coverage begins 1 of 4 on TNT with the United States in search of a fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup
00:08gold medal.
00:09Takes on Hungary, their first appearance of the quarters in 40 years.
00:14Your up-to-date bracket, here's what we've got all day long.
00:17Our next game features China and France, a country that is coming up close on the U.S.
00:24Belgium and Germany square off in the 11.30 a.m. Eastern window.
00:28We wrap the day with Australia and Spain.
00:32Here's what we've got to watch for today for USA.
00:36Brianna Stewart is the team captain playing in her fourth FIBA World Cup.
00:41The only player that's in her fourth on this team.
00:44Needs 11 points to pass the great Cheryl Swoops on the all-time scoring list.
00:49Sarah, she went for 19 points, added seven boards, six assists.
00:53She hasn't committed the turnover in this tournament.
00:55What the team needs, Brianna Stewart will deliver.
00:59And you saw it the other day.
01:00When they needed to get back on track, just in terms of rhythm, consistency, does a little bit of everything.
01:06Brianna Stewart's a player that we have seen through every level, every stage, how she rises to the occasion.
01:12And there is no reason to think differently as her USA team wants to set the tone against Hungary and
01:19Dorka Juhasz, who has been an absolute bucket.
01:21You look across the board at the numbers, the average of a double-double that she is putting together.
01:25And she's the key to making Hungary go.
01:27If they want to have a chance up here against USA on both ends of the floor, Juka Juhasz is
01:34going to be a major component of that.
01:37As she said, we're going to bring our heart, our fight, and give it all we have in this U
01:40.S. game as we take a look at our starting lineups.
01:43Fourth game for the United States in Berlin.
01:45It's the same quintet.
01:47All five players have a gold medal in their USA basketball careers.
01:52As for Hungary, we talk about Dorka Juhasz.
01:55Keep an eye out for Rekha Lelik.
01:58She went for 23 points in the quarterfinal qualifier against Japan.
02:0223 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists.
02:06A super efficient day.
02:09Great to have you joining us in Berlin.
02:12It's morning for everybody.
02:14For some of you, very early.
02:16Thanks for staying with us.
02:18The quarterfinals of the FIBA World Cup are underway.
02:24Agnes Studer runs the point for Hungary.
02:28Off the win against Japan, 84 points.
02:31They shot 50% from the field.
02:33Downhill action, missed layup by Lelik.
02:37Kalia Copper the other way for USA.
02:41Copper averaging 5 points in this tournament.
02:45Jackie Young, the leading scorer for the United States.
02:47Just over 11 points per game.
02:49It's knocked away.
02:50Stays U.S. ball.
02:51I already see the quickness of rotations by Hungary
02:53and how connected they are on the defensive side.
02:55For USA, you like that they're getting in the paint,
02:58forcing some penetrations.
03:00But overall, as we heard the studio crew talk about it,
03:03this Hungary team has been waiting for this moment
03:05for an incredibly long time.
03:10Stewart knocks it down.
03:11Light work in the paint.
03:13One, two, three, two, three.
03:15Two, three, two, three.
03:16Stewart gets the scoring started for the United States.
03:18One, two, three, three.
03:23Ball screen coverage by Collier rotates back.
03:27Turnover caused.
03:28The United States in their three games of group phase play,
03:33a point differential of plus 26,
03:36contested in the lane,
03:37Chelsea Gray flutters off the iron,
03:40hit a massive elbow jumper against Italy.
03:45USA eked it out 55-52.
03:48That was the middle game.
03:49Open triple for Hungary.
03:51They capitalize.
03:52Zina Ajo.
03:53Hungary looks sharp to start.
03:55And we've talked a lot about the size that they present,
03:57how they can rebound and get it on the inside.
03:59They've been very solid as well through the course of this tournament,
04:02knocking down three-point shots.
04:04Downhill, Kalia Koffer banks it in.
04:08Very spread offense early on for USA.
04:13Worked and operated a lot in their penetrations of the paint.
04:18Dorka Juhasz tees one up.
04:22Rebound Gray.
04:24Reads the floor so well.
04:27And a gallop into the paint by Nafisa Collier to score USA by three.
04:31And that's what you love to see.
04:33Again, everyone staying very spaced
04:35and allowing the main operation room in the paint for USA.
04:41Juhasz back to work.
04:42Flick of the rest.
04:43Blocked by her league's teammate, Collier.
04:49Hands by Studer.
04:50Reach in foul.
04:53Los Lakes meetup on the block.
04:55And overall, though, for Hungary,
04:57give them credit for how they've gotten back in transition defense.
05:01Convention you see right there,
05:03trying to be on the get back.
05:05Where USA will thrive is in the open court.
05:07Juhasz trying to do some work on the inside,
05:10and Collier with a great job to meet her.
05:19Tough spot for Cheryl Reeve in that situation.
05:21She's tuned in this morning.
05:24Head coach of the Minnesota Lynx.
05:26Former USA basketball head coach.
05:317-3 USA.
05:3633 consecutive World Cup victories.
05:46Hungary's best ranking in this tournament in 40 years.
05:52In fact, they faced the United States back in 1986.
05:57At one point in the World Cup, that was the last time Hungary made it to the quarterfinals.
06:02All-time United States 3-0 against Hungary in the FIBA World Cup.
06:06I think it's just those type of things.
06:08The rich history, the tradition.
06:09We talk about it with USA as they go for their fifth straight World Cup title.
06:13But for so many of these faces, a new opportunity individual.
06:17Jackie Young-Pure around the ball screen.
06:20Four starters for USA have scored in the first three minutes.
06:27Here, Takash Kish passed it up.
06:29Floater in the lane.
06:30Once again by Aho.
06:34Played her college basketball at Duquesne.
06:39Pittsburgh, Atlantic 10 All-Defense standout.
06:44Going back seven years ago.
06:45Tightrope to baseline.
06:47Stewart to Collier.
06:48And the unrivaled co-founders hook up.
06:50They did so early in the Czechia game to get USA off to a good start.
06:55In how they set the tone.
06:56And early on, too, Collier looks good in the spot she's getting to on the floor.
07:00You saw her aggressiveness and going towards the basket.
07:03That lead pours one in.
07:05First points of the game for Rekha Lalique.
07:09She was very impressed with Italy's defense against the United States.
07:13What they did was amazing.
07:15We have to continue what they did.
07:18And not lose focus defensively.
07:20And Lalique was exceptional in the quarterfinal hollow fire against Japan.
07:25And how she was able to hit on so many different areas on the floor.
07:29That included the defensive side.
07:32Four minutes gone by.
07:33Opening quarter of the quarterfinals.
07:35Jackie Young the steal.
07:37Three beat two.
07:38The shovel to Stewart.
07:39She does the rest.
07:43And we get a timeout.
07:45Hungry.
07:47Business-like approach by USA.
07:50In the first four minutes and change.
07:52You're watching the 2026 FIBA women's impressive resume for United States.
07:59USA basketball has set an unbelievable standard.
08:03They've been number one on FIBA's rankings since the inception in 2007.
08:09Many players will tell you pressure is a privilege.
08:12You don't want to be the installation of USA basketball to come up short.
08:18And they're back in the quarters.
08:19Yeah, and even looking at that margin of victory, it's not just that they've won.
08:23It's the dominance which they have displayed.
08:26There's so many different ways to look at it.
08:28But right now for this group, for these players, there is a newness of what they are trying to accomplish
08:34as a unit together.
08:35We talk a lot about Brianna Stewart, who's been at every point, every level, everywhere.
08:41And there's a reason why they're all on this group.
08:43And it's all about finding ways to come together to continue that streak.
08:48Aaliyah Boston has checked in for the United States and for Collier.
08:55Kanyashi, no angle, has to give it up.
08:58And USA commits a foul.
09:01Lelik is heading to the free throw line.
09:03And it's going to be interesting to continue to watch.
09:05I know we've talked about a great report in the pregame from Allie LaForce in regards to Carol Lawson talking
09:11about sticking with the same starting lineup.
09:14However, she'll continue to be open to changes and how that works.
09:16But also, I think, just what the rotations look like.
09:19Some early substitutions at different points.
09:21What's needed when.
09:22Aaliyah Boston has been so solid through the course of this.
09:25You know this is a hungry team.
09:27They're strong on the glass.
09:28They're strong on the inside.
09:30Early on for USA, their ability to get it out in the open court
09:34is going to continue to be really important.
09:37And they've done a nice job of that so far.
09:39And Hungary through group stage play and their one qualifying quarterfinal game.
09:46Third rebounding team in the World Cup.
09:49Gray for three.
09:51Rattles it in.
09:52Splat.
09:53And great to see.
09:55Especially for USA overall for as much as we've talked about the inside game.
09:59Did you just do a Renee impression?
10:01No, I can't.
10:02I can't make the noise that she.
10:04Yeah, I can only.
10:07Keep it simple.
10:08I am trying to keep it to one syllable.
10:10Renee, you are the best.
10:12USA, seven of nine from the floor.
10:14Gray just splashed home their first three of the game.
10:19Gray's second triple of this World Cup.
10:23Chelsea Gray, two-time Olympic gold medalist
10:25and was part of that World Cup gold medal team in 2022.
10:28And even off that possession, you see the ball screen.
10:30Aaliyah Boston doing such a great job
10:33and how she's opening things up and setting it.
10:35Chelsea Gray reading those switches.
10:37Those opportunities will be present against Hungary's defense.
10:46Seven-point lead for the United States.
10:49Long two off the marks to Dare.
10:52Gray pushes up to Young.
10:56And the United States of Aces on a hookup.
10:59There was a foul.
11:02And that's where Hungary got caught up a little bit.
11:05They're on the get-back,
11:06but it's hard when you have
11:08so many of these players on USA,
11:11Jackie Young being one of them.
11:12We've seen multiple that
11:14they've got a quickness of the advancement
11:16but also a forcefulness
11:17in how they've been continuing to go towards the rim.
11:23Studer call for the foul.
11:25Yvonne Turner checks in for Hungary.
11:27Liener, Young, good.
11:30She has feasted in the paint throughout this tournament.
11:33That's been her go-to spot.
11:34She snakes those screens.
11:36She's patient.
11:37And this is a part of her game we see all the time.
11:39Gets a defender on the hip.
11:42It's a tough way to defend with how effective she is.
11:45Paige Beckers into the ball game to join the backcourt.
11:49Carol Lawson turns to Young, Gray, and Beckers.
11:51Now a two-player game of a couple of Huskies
11:54and turned over by the United States.
11:58Paige Beckers top five in blocked shots
12:02in this tournament.
12:04For the defense, highly efficient from the floor.
12:09And Kaitlin Clark checks into the ball game for USA.
12:13Clark number three
12:15at this Peeble World Cup and assists.
12:18That's got your one there.
12:19Collier grabs her own miss.
12:20Pounces in the paint.
12:21Collier for two and 11-point lead USA.
12:24Obviously a great job following up,
12:26staying with the play.
12:27For Collier just continuing.
12:28She's looking more and more comfortable.
12:30Her effectiveness hits all points to the floor,
12:33but particularly on the offensive side
12:35is this group gets going
12:37with a really nice amount of balance.
12:39All right, six points for Collier.
12:44And, Sarah, the advantage in the paint.
12:47We talked about the size of Hungary.
12:49USA has not been phased by it.
12:5114-0 USA advantage points in the paint.
12:54And I think sometimes as we look at teams
12:57and look at their strengths,
12:58look at the style of how they want to play,
13:01you can't overlook.
13:02USA has all those traits as well.
13:04Clark deep into the paint.
13:06Kick it out.
13:06Beckers at the shot clock to two.
13:08Boston tees up a three.
13:10Knocks it down.
13:11Elite ball movement.
13:14Clark to Beckers to Boston.
13:1610-0 USA run.
13:18Can't say it enough.
13:19The addition of that three-point shot.
13:22It's such a high efficiency.
13:24That trio.
13:27Clark, Boston, Beckers, all teammates
13:29on the 2019 U-19 Women's World Cup gold medal squad.
13:33Here they are on the senior stage.
13:36It's a great ball movement by USA.
13:37We see this often.
13:38Leah Boston.
13:40We know what she can do on the inside.
13:42Working as a big.
13:44That three-point shot that she's shooting
13:47at such a high rate,
13:48especially this season in the WNBA,
13:50has been huge.
13:52Clark, a drive.
13:53Missed it.
13:54Collier, offensive rebound.
13:56Fever on fever.
13:57Connection!
13:59Clark to Boston.
14:00And there you go.
14:04Once again, that's how things will open up for USA.
14:09They start stringing together these possessions.
14:14Steele, Ryan Howard.
14:17Blazing speed.
14:18Howard is fouled as she glided to the rim.
14:23And we'll get a couple at the line.
14:25This happened fast.
14:26USA up 17.
14:28And Collier, rather.
14:32Ajo, excuse me, is down for Germany.
14:34Rather hungry.
14:36And Ryan Howard, the WNBA steals leader,
14:39with another pick,
14:40just shoots the gaps at the other end.
14:42She goes hard into the body of...
14:47Ajo.
14:49Hopefully she's okay.
14:51She's getting up labored a little bit there.
14:52But you said it,
14:54this happening quickly for USA.
14:56It's just passing possession by possession
14:58of getting some stops.
15:01And she's done an excellent job
15:02with how they balanced
15:04and varied their attack offensively.
15:13Ajo dealt with some injuries in high school.
15:18ACL meniscus.
15:19And she's battled her way
15:22through national play.
15:24Going back to her college days at Duquesne.
15:25And then she's been with the...
15:28Hungary national team
15:29for the last number of years.
15:32Plays a tremendous role
15:35to get them into the quarters
15:36for the first time in 40 years.
15:38And I think that's important to remember.
15:40Just a pivotal nature.
15:41Someone like her plays on this Hungary team.
15:44The numbers aren't necessarily
15:45going to be indicative of
15:48what she's done in her organization.
15:50And even possessions like that
15:51you see defensively.
15:52So for Ajo herself,
15:57you hope that she's able
15:58to be back on the floor.
15:59If you tap the phone,
16:00you can stop the warning.
16:02Stay calm and enjoy basketball.
16:04Two and a half minutes to go.
16:05First quarter.
16:0628-9 USA.
16:10Boston and Collier
16:12with six points apiece
16:14to lead the way.
16:18Hungary connects from deep.
16:21Much needed.
16:22Agnes Turuk.
16:24Boston is fed.
16:26Missed the layup.
16:28Turner is off to the races.
16:33Pintosh.
16:35Takash Kish flips it.
16:39Collier served as a shield.
16:41Outlet to Kaitlin Clark.
16:44And a reach-in foul.
16:46Hungry.
16:47I'll say it again.
16:49Hungry, you even saw
16:51that possession.
16:52They are very cognizant
16:53in getting back.
16:54They know they want to keep
16:55USA out of transition.
17:01Smooth-looking shot.
17:03Hungry shooting around
17:0435% through the course
17:06of this World Cup tournament.
17:09And over the limit.
17:10So Kaitlin Clark
17:11heads to the free-throw line.
17:13First point
17:15of this late morning
17:16in Berlin.
17:19How do you jump?
17:20I don't know
17:21Rene and the crew
17:22talked about that.
17:23We can make jokes
17:24about the time here
17:26in the United States.
17:27But for a local tip
17:2811 a.m.
17:30Just getting your routine,
17:31getting your schedule
17:32for these players
17:32a little bit earlier.
17:33You know how anxious
17:34they are to get
17:35them back on the floor
17:36after having two days off
17:38and wanting to keep improving.
17:46The ball never hit the rim
17:48initially.
17:50Turnover hungry.
17:52Dorky Juhasz continues to inspire
17:55even while not in the game.
17:58Very familiar with many
17:59players on the floor.
18:02Including Paige Beckers,
18:04her teammate for a couple
18:06of years in Storrs,
18:07Connecticut at UConn.
18:08Clark bounces in for Collier,
18:10fadeaway J.
18:11That's her money move.
18:1320-point lead, USA.
18:15Top.
18:16And good to see.
18:18And for USA,
18:18they just continue to feed
18:20different players
18:20at different entry points.
18:24Been very successful early on
18:26and Collier has had the hot hand.
18:32Angel Reese boards the miss.
18:3613 points against Czechia
18:37for Reese last time out.
18:39Three steals.
18:40He's been so solid
18:42and consistent
18:43this whole tournament.
18:44A dipsy two
18:45by Collier.
18:47Another basket
18:48for Nafisa Collier.
18:49Ten points
18:50in the opening quarter.
18:51Five of six shooting.
18:52I can't stop her.
18:54Just keep feeding her
18:54in the post
18:55and she's made them work.
18:59She has seized the opportunity
19:01against her Lynx teammate,
19:03Toto Juhasz and Hungary today.
19:07They both get a lot of love
19:08for each other.
19:10Cheryl Reeve and the Lynx
19:11have dipped their toes
19:13into the international waters.
19:15Juhasz has been with the organization
19:16for three years
19:17and of many Lynx
19:21at this FIBA World Cup.
19:2422-point lead for USA.
19:27Turner with five to fire.
19:30Double teamed by Reese and Beckers.
19:32An eighth turnover
19:33for Hungary.
19:34Shot clock is off.
19:36Clark uses the re-screen.
19:38Passes.
19:38Therese lays it in.
19:40Those two have really enjoyed
19:42each other's company
19:43in Berlin.
19:45End of one.
19:46A 24-point lead
19:47for the United States.
19:48Nice way to open things up
19:50here in the quarterfinals
19:52for USA.
19:53Significant lead
19:54in a great amount of...
19:55Berlin, the United States
19:56up by 24
19:58against Hungary
19:59in the quarterfinals.
20:04Takash Kish
20:05misses the three
20:05cleared by Copper.
20:07How'd they do it?
20:07Well, a really methodical way
20:08to get things started.
20:10They're getting
20:10and stringing together stops.
20:12It's been one and out
20:13on the defensive side
20:14when they force misses
20:15for a hungry team.
20:17That's an area
20:18where they will try
20:19and continue to crash the glass.
20:21And overall,
20:21there's been a good rhythm
20:23to where they're finding
20:24their spots offensively.
20:26Who they're feeding.
20:26They've been feeding
20:27the post-it-top.
20:28We saw a really nice start
20:30from Nafisa Collier
20:31and her efficiency.
20:32But overall,
20:33they just have
20:33great spacing
20:35and balance on the floor.
20:36This is very characteristic
20:37of how they want
20:38to go about things.
20:4274% shooting
20:44for USA.
20:46Clark sidestep three.
20:49Continues her struggles
20:50from distance
20:51but Carol Lawson
20:52has full confidence
20:53in Clark
20:54saying shooters
20:55go through hot streaks,
20:57they go through cold streaks.
20:58And her pace
21:00has been terrific
21:01thus far
21:02in her
21:02senior national team debut.
21:05And I think we see
21:06that
21:07speaking of pace
21:08just for all these players
21:09and with USA
21:10a reason for a 24-point lead.
21:11Everyone's doing
21:12a lot of the little things.
21:13And a big part of that
21:14is going to be
21:15the continued ball movement
21:16we've seen.
21:20There's a whistle
21:21on the hungry side.
21:25Clark did a sit-down
21:26with Associated Press
21:27and she said
21:29to Doug Feinberg
21:30who does a great job
21:31covering women's basketball.
21:32Clark would watch
21:33Coach Mike Krzyzewski
21:35clips
21:36with those
21:36LeBron and Kobe
21:38men's U.S. national teams.
21:40Beckers knocks down
21:41the mid-range jumper.
21:43Beckers is averaging
21:43double figures
21:44in this tournament.
21:45Just the motivation
21:46and how to get through
21:47to teams
21:48to find an extra edge
21:51to get through
21:52the next stage
21:53of competition.
21:54As you mentioned,
21:55fantastic article by Doug.
21:57And I think overall
21:57it's always kind of
21:59the question
21:59especially coming
22:01into this World Cup
22:02tournament
22:02with USA
22:03the talent
22:04is undeniably
22:06there.
22:07It's just the
22:07expedited way
22:08that they all need
22:09to integrate
22:10with one another.
22:10Get together
22:11figure out
22:12exactly how
22:13and where
22:14they're going to play
22:15the areas to contribute.
22:16You know this is
22:17top to bottom
22:18though.
22:18Just an unselfish group
22:19that wants to figure
22:20that out
22:21and problem solve
22:22with it
22:22with the coaching staff.
22:24There's a steal.
22:25Reese the motor
22:26engaged early.
22:28Clark to Reese.
22:29Angel Reese.
22:30He's out of those
22:31who have been
22:31finding one another.
22:33The rim running aspect
22:34that Angel Reese
22:35brings to the table.
22:37Reese shooting
22:3857%
22:40through three games
22:42of this
22:43FIBA World Cup
22:43has added four steals
22:45and three blocked shots.
22:47Her energy
22:48when she checks in
22:49has changed the game.
22:52Turok, a three.
22:53Three points.
22:55It's a kind of struggle.
22:59Good sign for Hungary.
23:01They hit 44%
23:02of their triples
23:03on the win against Japan.
23:04That was in the
23:05quarterfinal qualifier
23:07to advance to this stage
23:09as Reese turned the corner.
23:11She's followed
23:12by Josopovic.
23:13Well, quite frankly,
23:14they're going to need to.
23:15And coming into this one
23:17you would anticipate
23:17that would need
23:18to be an aspect
23:19of how they would
23:21need to stay in this game
23:22but in particular
23:23if you're looking at
23:24this deficit
23:26to this point
23:26at 25
23:28that's how you need
23:29to cut into it
23:30because
23:32USA had
23:33their off game
23:34against Italy
23:35and you imagine
23:35the efficiency
23:36from the field
23:37is going to
23:37now be
23:38more of a norm
23:39as we see from Stewart.
23:42Back in the workshop
23:43the paint.
23:44Brianna Stewart
23:45has seven points.
23:48right behind
23:49Collier
23:49who has ten.
23:51Ball pressure
23:52by Copper
23:53takes in
23:54against Studer.
23:57Appudication
23:57on the screen.
23:58Copper
23:59went underneath.
24:00Hungary
24:00takes advantage.
24:03Studer
24:03for three.
24:05And Clark
24:06turns it over.
24:08Turner
24:09waits for the trailers.
24:14Yesopovich in the post.
24:16Stewart
24:16absorbs the physicality.
24:18Double-dribble.
24:20Yesopovich
24:21got stuck there.
24:22Brianna Stewart
24:23what she can do
24:24on the defensive end
24:25and creating
24:25some leverage.
24:27Understanding angles
24:28just pushes her off.
24:34Jackie Young
24:35back into the ballgame
24:37for USA.
24:40Turner picks up
24:41Clark.
24:43It's Clark,
24:44Young,
24:45Stewart,
24:45Reese,
24:46and Copper
24:46for USA.
24:48Sidestep Clark
24:49team.
24:49Triple
24:50it's good!
24:52Great sign
24:53for Clark
24:54great sign
24:54for USA
24:55recognizing
24:56that mismatch
24:58with Juhasz
24:58pulled out
24:59on her.
25:01Juhasz
25:01can't respond
25:02left it short.
25:05Stewart boarded
25:06the Miss USA
25:07leading rebounder.
25:08Clark fires
25:09a pass
25:09into Reese.
25:11Third time
25:11those two.
25:12Clark to Reese.
25:14That partnership
25:15here at USA
25:16has been beautiful
25:17to watch.
25:18Especially a possession
25:19like that.
25:20Reese getting down
25:22and getting the position
25:23in the seal early.
25:25Clark had her head up
25:25and realizes
25:26that's too rare
25:27even Jackie Young
25:28Copper
25:29flaring out
25:30to the wings,
25:31putting pressure
25:32on the defense.
25:33All of those things
25:34matter
25:35and how spaced
25:36and attached
25:36they need to be
25:37to then open up
25:39that inside.
25:40All three of Reese's
25:41buckets assisted
25:42by Clark.
25:44Clark said
25:44Reese has a tremendous
25:45motor.
25:46It's been fun
25:47to play with her.
25:47She works just as hard
25:49as anybody
25:49out on the floor
25:51and
25:53it's been really fun
25:54to see their
25:55competitive fires
25:56shared in Berlin.
25:5929 point lead
26:03for USA Basketball
26:05in search of
26:05a fifth consecutive
26:06FIBA World Cup
26:08gold medal.
26:1032 consecutive
26:11World Cup wins.
26:18Juhasz
26:20sets up.
26:21Second time
26:22in a row
26:23short on the
26:23three ball.
26:26Four starters
26:27plus Aaliyah Boston
26:28now for USA Basketball.
26:33Copper's open
26:34on an island.
26:35A three.
26:39The United States
26:41five of six
26:42from deep
26:42shooting
26:4377%
26:44overall
26:46in the first half.
26:47And the fun part
26:49is it feels like
26:50Chav's just
26:50in the rhythm
26:51and the flow
26:52of the offense.
26:54Over the first
26:55three games
26:55of group stage
26:56played USA
26:57just 29%
26:58from three.
27:00And an answer
27:02by Hungary.
27:05That really game
27:06back in the game
27:06good sign.
27:07Yeah, great sign
27:07for Hungary
27:08to have
27:08Ajo back in the game.
27:10Her being a
27:11three point threat.
27:11I feel like that
27:12Italy game threw off
27:13maybe with some
27:14of the percentages
27:14would be at this point.
27:21Panka Duell
27:22passes in
27:22and then Juhasz
27:23to her fellow big
27:24Josipovic
27:25for a quick deuce.
27:28Midway point
27:29of the second quarter.
27:31It's down to 27
27:33in this quarterfinal.
27:34Good early offense
27:36here for Hungary
27:37taking advantage
27:38of their size
27:39on the inside
27:39trying to stay
27:40in this one
27:41down 27
27:42in the second.
27:45Inside the huddle
27:46at Berlin Arena.
27:48Carol Lawson
27:49appointed head coach
27:51in September
27:51of last year.
27:53Points in the paint
27:54has been the story
27:55for USA.
27:5626 of them.
27:57You see that
27:58highlighted area
28:00that we keep
28:01watching on our screen.
28:03It's the real estate
28:04that USA has operated in.
28:06And just the understanding
28:07of us since they're
28:08trying to get into
28:09some of the loading
28:10on the floor
28:11that allows extra space
28:12for all of these
28:13talented individuals
28:15to be able to penetrate
28:16to drive.
28:17They can work
28:17how they get those shots
28:19on the inside
28:20in different ways
28:21and they've already
28:22showcased that.
28:22And that's also a part
28:23of USA continuing
28:25as you can see
28:25implementing
28:26what they worked on
28:27in that practice
28:29yesterday
28:29which Carol Lawson
28:30told our Ali La Force
28:31the best
28:32of the tournament
28:33so far.
28:34Had a day off
28:35in between
28:36with the two days.
28:38Opportunity to rest
28:39to regroup
28:40and they've come out
28:41sharp.
28:42Hungary goes to the zone
28:43off the Stewart
28:44missed three.
28:47Studer was out of bounds.
28:52Zone is what gave
28:53the United States
28:54fits.
28:55Italy's zone
28:56a couple of days ago.
28:58Yeah, and again,
28:59I think that was
29:01just a newness
29:02and you don't,
29:04there's so much value
29:05to take from things
29:07that I'm sure
29:08they experienced
29:09and lived together
29:10through that game
29:10still pulling it out
29:11but I think this is a team
29:14that can still operate
29:15against the zone
29:16which is figuring out
29:17the balance of it
29:17the continued movement
29:18where they're at their best
29:20and their strength
29:21is their ball movement,
29:23their body movement,
29:23how they can shift
29:25and rotate a defense
29:26and I think that was
29:26just part of
29:27we got a little stuck
29:29in that one
29:29and it's tough
29:31to find things
29:32when the typical shots
29:33you're seeing right
29:34at the front of the rim
29:35or around the field
29:36weren't going through
29:37but Jackie Young
29:39a huge part
29:40of helping to close
29:41that one out
29:41and now they move forward
29:42and certainly look
29:44like the team
29:45that we had anticipated
29:46coming in.
29:46Jackie Young is the only
29:48United States player
29:49that has scored
29:49in double figures
29:50in all three games.
29:53Collier's got 10
29:54to lead the way.
29:58Shot clock to four
30:00and Hungary turns it over
30:03for a 13th time
30:04in this first half.
30:06And there haven't been
30:07a ton of live ball turnovers
30:09where it's allowed USA
30:10to get out of the break
30:11but those are the important aspects
30:13of what they've done
30:13defensively.
30:14For Carroll Lawson
30:15in this group
30:16you just see how
30:17everyone's guarding their own.
30:19They've been ready,
30:20they've forced some
30:21tough looks here
30:22for a hungry
30:23but it's those little things
30:25of feeling like
30:26you're on a string
30:27that I think
30:27you hope to see
30:29those signs of improvement.
30:30Rim run by Boston
30:31made at the rim
30:32by Takash Kish.
30:36That's 17 points
30:37and a Japan win.
30:38That was a quarterfinal qualifier
30:39to get to this stage.
30:47Young flies around the pick.
30:50Good hands by Hungary.
30:52They work that zone
30:53on the perimeter.
30:54Boston
30:55looking for a third three.
30:57Young parachutes in.
30:59Offensive rebound
31:00lays it in.
31:01Beautiful fly-in
31:01by Jackie Young
31:03and USA has taken advantage
31:05of those second chance
31:06opportunities.
31:07When you have the floor
31:08that space
31:09it gives you some run-ins.
31:14Jackie Young has six points.
31:16Yuhas fed in the paint.
31:19The United States
31:20converges in there.
31:22They want to run.
31:22Gray walk up three.
31:24True.
31:25Second triple
31:26for the point
31:28on Chelsea Gray.
31:31There's that pace
31:32and open court play
31:34that USA wants to implement.
31:36Do it here early on.
31:37And another one
31:38for Chelsea Gray.
31:40Big lead
31:41for USA.
31:45K. Tara Varelby,
31:47head coach of Hungary
31:48since 2024.
31:50He's led the
31:53Hungarian national team
31:54to the World Cup
31:55quarterfinals
31:56for the first time
31:57in 40 years.
32:00Has a lot to pick apart
32:02with the United States
32:04in complete control.
32:08up by 32
32:10with three and change
32:11to go in this first half.
32:12Brendan Glass Sheen,
32:13Sarah Kustak,
32:14Ali LaForce.
32:15Stay tuned
32:16for Lauren Jabara.
32:18Three-time
32:18FIBA World Cup
32:20gold medalist
32:20Tina Charles
32:21and Renee Montgomery
32:22in the studio.
32:24How many cups of coffee
32:25have they had?
32:26Well, apparently
32:27Tina and Renee
32:28don't drink coffee.
32:29So, I don't know.
32:30We're going to have
32:30to count tabs on Lauren.
32:32I think we got some tea.
32:34Some hot tea.
32:34Maybe lemon and honey
32:35to make sure.
32:37There's always tea.
32:40With that crew.
32:43Lelik.
32:44Back outside.
32:46Studer.
32:47Sidestep long.
32:48Triple.
32:50Juhasz on the
32:51offensive glass.
32:53Fouls against USA.
33:00And we've seen a lot of these.
33:02And Humphrey's
33:04shot the ball
33:06fairly well
33:07from the three-point line.
33:09Just five of 13
33:10at 38%.
33:13But that's been
33:14a lot of where
33:15they've lived.
33:16USA has done a good job
33:17in keeping on
33:18the perimeter
33:19putting some pressure on
33:20as you're seeing here
33:21forcing some contested looks.
33:24Ajo whistles a pass
33:25into the paint.
33:26And Durka Juhasz
33:28finishes at the rim.
33:30First points for Juhasz
33:31was 0 for 7
33:32from the floor.
33:33Yeah, they've been
33:33a tough on Juhasz.
33:35And for Hungary
33:36to get her more involved,
33:38you know she's going
33:39to be critical.
33:40Just even an
33:40attractive attention
33:41and a gravity there
33:42on the floor
33:43and on the inside.
33:44And Brianna Stewart
33:45said before the game,
33:47Hungary has a strong
33:48post presence.
33:49We have to try
33:49to turn them over
33:50and make the pace
33:52our pace.
33:53So far, so good.
33:54The collapse
33:55by Boston.
33:57Numbers for USA.
33:58Young hit the brakes,
33:59float it up,
34:00and it's in.
34:01That, though,
34:02is a systematic nature,
34:04though, where USA
34:05becomes a machine.
34:06You mentioned it.
34:07Aaliyah Boston,
34:08excellent single coverage
34:09on a player like Juhasz.
34:10Comes up with a rebound,
34:11quick on the push,
34:12everyone's filling lanes.
34:14Those are the ways
34:15that USA becomes
34:18so dominant
34:19in how they've opened this up.
34:21Takash Kish was bottled up.
34:24Chelsea Gray comes away
34:25with it.
34:26She's hit a couple
34:26of three-pointers.
34:28Howard catching fire.
34:31Juhasz the rebound.
34:33Durka Juhasz.
34:34Three double-doubles
34:36in this tournament,
34:36averaging a double-double.
34:3815 and 11
34:39for Hungary.
34:43Takash Kish for three.
34:45Rattles out.
34:47Ajo, offensive rebound.
34:49Howard cut the hands in.
34:50Take away.
34:51Right time on the other end.
34:54Excellent job by Ryan Howard.
34:57The awareness,
34:58strong hands.
35:02There's reasons why
35:03she gets so many steals
35:04and part of its instincts
35:07is she's got a natural
35:08understanding exactly
35:09where the ball is at.
35:11Truly a handful.
35:14Hungary comes back down
35:15to hit a three.
35:17Like you said,
35:18they found the stroke
35:20from deep.
35:21Boston misses the layup.
35:24Hungary back the other way.
35:26They run the break strong.
35:27Hands by Chelsea Gray.
35:28So good at that.
35:31Lely cans the jumper.
35:33It's a good push
35:34from Hungary
35:36in this final minute
35:37of quarter number two.
35:39Shot clock is off
35:41for the United States.
35:46Gray's hit a pair of threes.
35:48Mid-range game.
35:50No good.
35:51And a 29-point lead
35:55for USA
35:56through 20 minutes.
35:57They shoot 65%
35:59from the floor.
36:00They got it going
36:02in the paint
36:02and they hit six three-pointers.
36:03The numbers are impressive
36:04but even more so
36:06how it looked,
36:07the process going
36:08about this
36:10now 29-point lead
36:12that USA has built.
36:13Looking to punch
36:14their ticket
36:15to the semifinals
36:16on Saturday.
36:1829-point lead
36:20after 20 minutes.
36:22Collier had 10.
36:23Stewart with 7.
36:24Lauren, Tina, and Renee
