The new house turned out even better than expected, and the timing feels almost unreal after a move, a new city, and a baby. From social rent rules in the Netherlands to the surprise of getting approved with combined income, this is a real-life expat lifestyle update about finding a bigger family home with a backyard, three bathrooms, an attic office, a walk-in closet, and space for the baby.

The move was stressful and the house is not fully finished yet, with painting, wallpaper, and a new floor still being done one room at a time. Still, the gratitude is obvious, especially because the family got the message about the house when the baby was only weeks old. The neighborhood matters too: a place with a small play garden, familiar faces nearby, and the kind of community that reminds her of growing up outside with friends.

This vlog blends house tour, family life, Netherlands living, and Uganda expat life, while also touching on privacy, parenting, and the plan to return to Uganda when possible. It is a personal, honest moving vlog for anyone who enjoys real couple content, home updates, and cross-cultural lifestyle stories.

SEO: ideal for viewers searching for house tour Netherlands, expat life in the Netherlands, social rent explained, moving vlog, family home reveal, backyard house tour, and Uganda Netherlands lifestyle content. Also great for fans of relatable couple vlogs, home renovation updates, and multicultural family life.

00:00Hello, hello, guys. And thanks for watching a new video. Next week I'm going to start vlogging again.
00:08But this week, guys, I don't know how fast life can change, but life can change very fast.
00:17I moved to another house, to another city, and I've got a baby.
00:24When she was seven weeks old, we moved to this house. Oh my goodness. I am so freaking grateful.
00:38And also because in the Netherlands you have two types. Well, you have like three ways of getting a house.
00:49One, you buy it, but not like in Uganda. When you have in Uganda enough money, you just buy it
00:57almost cash.
01:00But in the Netherlands you can borrow money from banks to buy your house.
01:07But to borrow those money from the banks you have to earn a certain amount of money and you have
01:11to prove that, etc.
01:12There are lots of rules. But there is also another way of getting a house.
01:19You can also rent a house. And then you have two types of rent.
01:25We call it social rent. That will be probably a better English word for this.
01:31And you have particular rent. I used to live in particular rent.
01:37Particular rent is higher. You have to earn three times the rent.
01:45But everyone can just join it as long as you earn three times the rent and you can prove that,
01:50etc.
01:51Social rent. You have to earn also an amount of money. But in this case, it's the other way around.
01:59You can't earn that much. If you earn too much money, then you are not allowed to join the social
02:05rent part.
02:08And there is a waiting line. Depending on how long you have been registered, you are going higher in the
02:16ranking.
02:17So I was registered in 2017. That's eight years ago, I had to think.
02:25But since my boyfriend is here living in the Netherlands, I could register him together with me.
02:31And that meant that our both incomes went combined. And then they look at your income and they say,
02:39okay, according to your income, you are allowed to react on these kinds of houses.
02:44Since he didn't earn that much in 2024. Because they always look in the past.
02:50And he was just here for one month. And he worked here only for one month.
02:54Which is logic. Because when you just live here for one month, it is what it is.
02:59So they only looked at that year and he worked here for one month.
03:03And then they put that income above my income. So we were low income.
03:09And we had priority. Because that's kind of the good system in the Netherlands.
03:13If you have low income. Sometimes in the Netherlands, you can rather earn too low than medium.
03:23If you earn medium wage, then you're screwed. Because like I said, you can rather earn not enough.
03:33Then you get a lot of money from the government. But as soon as you earn more,
03:38then all the money from the government is going away. And at the end, you earn the same.
03:44Or you get the same amount of money. But yeah, the good thing is, of course,
03:49when you earn more and more and more, then you also have more possibilities to buy a house, etc.
03:56So like I said, there is like one line that you should cross and then actually get above that.
04:06Because otherwise, you're screwed. Since we also have a kid, we were also allowed to
04:13or you get also higher in the ranking of having a house with a garden or a backyard, I should
04:20say.
04:21We have now a house with a backyard,
04:26three bedrooms,
04:27two bedrooms and an attic where you see me now. And the attic is going to be our office.
04:35Downstairs will be the bedroom of us, of course, the baby, get an own bedroom.
04:41And we have a walk-in closet and a bathroom. And then we have a living room, a kitchen and
04:48the backyard.
04:50It is insane. And I am beyond thankful that it went so fast. It was also really stressful,
04:59because to be honest, I was planning to go online way more. Yeah, way more earlier. I thought,
05:07Oh, I'm alive again after my C-section. I feel good. And then the moving came and we had to
05:16fix this whole house. There had to be a new floor in it. We had to paint some walls. We
05:24had to put some
05:25wallpaper. And to be honest, not every room is already finished yet. We decided to move it already
05:32in and do the rest one by one. Just, yeah, one at a time. We can't spend time and money
05:42on moving so
05:43much in all in once, but we have to do it, like I said, one by one. But yeah, it's
05:52insane. I'm still so
05:55grateful of how we got this house so fast after I gave birth. And because she was not even one
06:03month,
06:03she wasn't even one month old. And I got the message of the social rent organization, like,
06:13Hey, are you still interested in this house? Because you have to react online. And I was like, uh, yeah.
06:21So yeah, it's a really nice neighborhood. I know a lot of people who live in this neighborhood.
06:26Um, yeah, it's, it's really great. There is like a small play garden in front of our house where when
06:35she's older, she can also play. And that also reminds me of my youth. I always used to just go
06:41outside, play around with my friends. And actually I met most of my friends from just the neighborhood.
06:49So yeah, I hope that will also be like that for her. And yeah, I'm going to be back. I'm
06:59going to
07:00vlog again, uh, as a family in this beautiful house. Um, I want to bring you with me when we
07:08do
07:08something with the house like painting or, nah, soon there will be a closet with drawers for her
07:17coming because her old one couldn't go upstairs. So we had to buy a new one and the one we
07:25bought
07:25for her, or actually we got for free that is now in the kitchen. To be honest, it's a great
07:32closet for
07:33in the kitchen. So I don't complain. So yeah, I'm going to take you with me in this lifestyle and
07:41in
07:41this box. And of course we still want to go to Uganda also as well, because don't think that
07:49since we are now a happy family here with our house in the Netherlands that we never come back to
07:53Uganda.
07:55Hell yeah. I hope at least before her first birthday that we can go because of course she has family
08:02there. The plan is to go as soon as possible, but I am afraid that possible is
08:12some maybe six, no, maybe seven or eight months waiting
08:23with pain in my heart.
08:26But hey, yeah, I hope you will enjoy the videos in the Netherlands with all jobs around the house.
08:34Oh, I'm even a little bit sad. I realized more and more that, you know, a lot of people always
08:40think that I love Uganda because I love him. And that's, this was like one, but I realized more and
08:49more that it is two things.
08:51I love him and I love Uganda because he is here. So it's not that I'm fine now, like, oh,
08:59he's here.
09:00Fine. We are happy family here. No, there is also a piece of me that's desperately wanted to go
09:11to Uganda. And especially when the weather is here.
09:16Not so nice. Okay, before I start to cry, I want to thank you for watching. And I hope you
09:24liked the video.
09:26Please put a thumbs up. Don't forget to subscribe, share the video with whoever you want. And I hope to
09:33see you in the next video where I'm going to, yeah, doing whatever I want. I have a busy week
09:42full of
09:43appointments, not about the house. Well, there is one appointment about the house. I have to deliver
09:50the keys. But in the weekend, I have nothing to do. So maybe I can do something fun. And there
09:57will be
09:57coming some stuff for my baby. Oh, and last thing to say, my boyfriend is not a fan of the
10:06camera. So
10:07yeah, I keep him out of the picture. And also, as the Ugandans will say, our baby. Although I love
10:18to
10:18show my baby to everyone. On the other hand, I don't want to show her because internet is wild.
10:29And I know that I can earn good money with my child. That's really hard to say. But it is
10:39the truth.
10:39When you have like a child, companies come to you, sell things and the fuse goes up. And I know,
10:48but I don't want to use my child for that because I don't know if she likes the camera. Maybe
10:54one day
10:55she will come to me and say, mom, why didn't I been shown in the camera all that time? Because
11:02I also
11:02want to protect her because nowadays random people can just take shorts out of your video. And that
11:13ends up on the dark web. So for example, you film your kids in swimming suits or whatever. People just
11:22can take that moment and put it on the dark web. And I definitely don't want that for my kids.
11:32So yeah, those are the two biggest reasons that I don't want it. First, she didn't choose for this.
11:40So maybe when she is older and she wants it, then that's another thing. But for now I say, no,
11:48I keep her for private. And if you ever meet me in the wild and you see me with my
11:53daughter, say hi.
11:56But like I said, I'm not going to film her because of her privacy. And also, yeah,
12:02because of you never know what people do with videos of her. So yeah.
12:09Thanks for watching. And I hope to see you next week. Bye bye.
12:13Bye bye.
12:13Bye bye.
12:13Bye bye bye.
12:13Bye bye bye bye.
