Jessica’s day in Uganda turns into a mix of self-care, errands, local food, and a slow return to everyday life. With a sore toe from an early accident at the gate, she still heads out to get her nails done, work from a restaurant, explore the neighborhood, and see what has changed since her last stay.

Along the way, she talks about feeling at home in Uganda, balancing European habits with local food, and taking it easy while her body adjusts again. She also shops for dinner and breakfast, plans pancakes, buys fruit and vegetables, and shares her love for chicomando, chapati with veggies, watermelon, mango, pasta, and avocado. The vlog captures a relaxed lifestyle, personal travel diary energy, and a real everyday glimpse of living in Uganda.

For viewers who enjoy Uganda vlog, expat life, travel lifestyle vlog, food shopping, local restaurants, and first-person daily routines, this video offers a calm mix of culture, home cooking, and neighborhood exploration. It also fits searches for living in Uganda, Dutch in Uganda, African lifestyle vlog, and casual travel and food content.

00:17Hello everyone!
00:18Is that when you have a plural?
00:23I don't know, please let me know in the comments if you are from Uganda.
00:26But hello everyone, I'm Jetske, I'm Dutch.
00:30I'm living in the Netherlands, but currently living in Uganda with my boyfriend.
00:36And today he is at work and I am going to let my nails done.
00:40I have already a kind of busy schedule.
00:43I don't know what time it is, it is almost 12.
00:46Oh, it is still morning.
00:49But I'm going to let my nails get done.
00:52I want to go to a restaurant to work from there.
00:56And I want to look around the neighborhood to see what have been changed in those months
01:02that I was here.
01:04Because I was here in 2022 from April, yes, until August.
01:12And now it is already April 2023, so a lot of things have changed here.
01:17So I really want to check that out.
01:19But for the people who didn't, yeah, saw my previous video or my small vlog, my short,
01:29on my first day here, I opened the gate and the gate rolled over my toe.
01:38Super nice, so it was bleeding like nothing.
01:42Yeah, this is actually going to be the first time that I'm going to have a long walk.
01:47I'm going to wear some sneakers because I want to protect my feet.
01:51I already put some bandage on my toe to hopefully, yeah, protect it and make sure it's not going
02:00to bleed again, but if it all goes well, my schedule will be as following.
02:08I'm going to start doing my nails.
02:10Then I'm going to the restaurant to have some work there.
02:13And there's also the gym where I used to work out from.
02:17So I want to have a new subscription because I think when I have the subscription that that
02:24is going to be pushing me to go to the gym.
02:27And now I'm the whole morning thinking, no, I'm not going blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
02:32So that's my plan.
02:34And then I may be going to get some money, but that's like three kilometer walk.
02:39I can use a boda, but I know my boyfriend doesn't like that.
02:44If I do that, even if it's a safe boda, it's not that good.
02:52So yeah, I'm going to walk from there if everything goes well.
02:57And actually, I also want to walk around just in the neighborhood to see the new buildings
03:02and stuff.
03:03And I want to do some shoppings for the evening and yeah, tomorrow morning.
03:10That is my new planning to just go shopping for dinner and breakfast the next morning and
03:16lunch.
03:16So when I work from home, I don't have to think about what do I want to eat?
03:20I just have it already in my place.
03:23So yeah, it's going to be a busy schedule somehow, but I have seven hours before the
03:28sunset.
03:29So it can be well.
03:32I didn't finish the whole watermelon.
03:35It's still here.
03:35I can show you.
03:37This is all I left over.
03:40Maybe I'm going to take some, but my stomach is not yet.
03:43That's, I don't know, my stomach has to get used to the food here again.
03:49You know, my biggest problem sometimes is the first time when I went to Uganda, you are
03:56really a Mzungu and you're like, oh, I don't eat from the street, blah, blah, blah.
04:01I have to be careful.
04:04And now it does.
04:06I don't feel like a visitor.
04:07I don't feel like a tourist.
04:09I don't feel like a volunteer.
04:11I feel like I'm home.
04:15So that's somehow a good thing because I love the country.
04:19I love the people.
04:19I love the food.
04:20The bad thing about that is that I forget that my body is not a foreigner and it's not
04:28used to the food yet.
04:29So I have to take it slow.
04:33And maybe I didn't.
04:36So yeah, it is even, I feel so home here that I almost forgot to get a visa.
04:42Like two weeks before I left, I was like, oh, I have to fix a visa.
04:45Thank God it was fixed in one day, but that's how I feel here.
04:50I feel at home.
04:52So thank you for letting me feel at home.
04:56And enough talked for now.
04:59See you at the nail store.
05:01Bye.
05:07Okay.
05:07It's a little bit awkward to film from here, but I wasn't allowed to film inside.
05:13At least that's what I think it was or the guy didn't understand me, but he said no, but
05:19I had the feeling that he didn't understand me.
05:21So I have to learn that sentence in Uganda, but I hope you can see it.
05:25My nails are done and I'm really excited and I'm really hungry.
05:29So I'm now going to have some food.
05:33So yeah, you will see what I'm going to eat.
05:35I think they have here chapati with veggies, which I really love.
05:38So I'm going to take some chapati with veggies and I decided not to walk to the ATM because
05:44I don't know my feet.
05:45It is okay, but it's not really okay.
05:53Hello guys.
05:54I am home now.
05:55The last thing you saw was me eating the salad and the wraps.
06:01They call it a wrap.
06:03Of course, it's chapati.
06:04And actually I was thinking when I was walking home, I was thinking, oh my goodness, I love,
06:10you know what I love the most now that I have the opportunity, the possibility to like,
06:19yeah, how do you say that?
06:20Experience both.
06:21I mean, I love to eat local food.
06:24I love to eat Chico Mando.
06:26I love to go to a local restaurant and have there my food, but I also love to go
06:31to a more, is it European restaurant?
06:34To have some more European food and to have that combination.
06:40I love that.
06:43And of course also cooking myself because that is all in those bags.
06:48Tonight I'm going to cook, but I also did some shopping store tomorrow morning.
06:54Actually, I'm hoping I did enough because I don't know if we have like some cornstarch
07:00at home.
07:02Otherwise, I still have to get that because I want to make some pancakes tomorrow, but
07:08I got a new watermelon.
07:10I mean, hello, I need watermelon.
07:14Oh, and I thought that it's also so nice on the pancake tomorrow.
07:19And what I also have is some mango.
07:22I'm going to do that also on the pancake.
07:25Why didn't I go for bananas then?
07:28Okay.
07:29Nevermind.
07:29Maybe I can go buy them tomorrow.
07:32Then I have two bell peppers and two, four, six tomatoes.
07:43And then I went to the supermarket as well.
07:45I bought some spaghetti because I know my boyfriend loves spaghetti more than other pasta.
07:51And I have some soy sauce because that is really nice with the rice.
07:58So I didn't bite the soy sauce for the pasta, but for the rice.
08:04So yeah, I'm going to just have some pasta with some veggies tonight.
08:09And I have also some onion left over.
08:12So that's going to be in the pasta.
08:14And for tomorrow morning, I have two pieces of fruit and I'm going to bake some pancakes.
08:20And for a Dutch channel, my boyfriend is going to learn me how to make Chico Mando because
08:26a lot of Dutch people ask me, how do you make it?
08:29Because I promote Chico Mando.
08:31Like it's the best dish in this whole wide universe, which I think it is.
08:36No, but I just love Chico Mando.
08:40And I think when I'm learning it, I can also try to make it at home.
08:44So yeah.
08:45And after my lunch, I subscribed in the gym where I used to work out before.
08:50So I'm really excited.
08:51I also talked to the manager there and he said that we have to train together once.
08:55So probably there will be, well, in some weeks, a training video from him and I together.
09:03So I'm really excited.
09:04I'm really looking forward to that already.
09:06And for now, I'm just going to walk from home because the restaurant didn't have Wi-Fi today.
09:13Yes, those things happen.
09:15But I'm okay with it.
09:17And I love the really slow down life in Uganda.
09:22I didn't go for the bank account as well, like to get some money because I didn't trust my feet.
09:29I have the feeling that it's all okay.
09:34I'm going to check it out how my toe is doing, but I thought I shouldn't force it.
09:39And I'm happy with my nails.
09:41Of course, it is a little bit Christmas vibes and it's almost Easter, but yeah, that will be fine.
09:51Okay, let's tidy up, see what my toe is doing and work.
09:58See you later.
10:31See you later.
10:33See you later.
10:35See you later.
10:36See you later.

10:44See you later.
10:51okay guys it is almost seven Ugandan time this watch is still on dutch time but it's okay
11:00um actually i'm gonna make a one pot dish it's really easy and
11:07and what i'm going to do is i'm going to cut these vegetables
11:13um and i'm going to i have also some onion and some garlic left over so i'm cut them all
11:21i'm first
11:22going to fry it and then i'm going to add the spaghetti and then i'm going to cook the spaghetti
11:29with the vegetables so it's going to have already the aroma of the spices and stuff that i'm going to
11:37add and yeah hopefully it tastes good so let's cook because i'm feeling kind of hungry
12:10so
12:59Oh my god, this avocado.
13:05Oh, this is so good.
13:07This one is so amazing.
13:12An avocado a day keeps the doctor away.
13:16I love those kind of meals, really.
13:21Yes, I'm so excited.
13:23I'm just going to eat it now.
13:25Okay, guys, I'm going to eat this chocolate, just a piece.
13:31It's from the Netherlands.
13:33And I realized this was quite a European day in Uganda.
13:39I don't know.
13:40But, you know, somehow I want to share all the love for the culture and the local food and etc.
13:46And don't get me wrong.
13:49I love the local foods.
13:51Check my shorts.
13:52You will see me eating a lot of chico-mando and other food.
13:58But on the other hand, I want to show, I think, the people from Europe that some people have, like,
14:04thoughts about Africa in general or Uganda.
14:08Anyhow, I'm going to eat this chocolate.
