00:14And, you know, you get a chance to watch the game film,
00:17digest what happened at Buffalo.
00:19We're a few days removed from it as you look back at it.
00:22What are the good and bad that you took from that game?
00:27Yeah, no, it feels like forever ago now.
00:29At this point, you know, offensively, we did have good moments.
00:33Again, we had a lot of good moments,
00:35but I think exactly what I said after the game was we knew we were going to have
00:39to start fast, and we didn't.
00:40We didn't score on the first two possessions,
00:42and dug ourselves a little bit of a hole there,
00:43and it was hard to get out of.
00:45You know, we had some opportunities.
00:47We cut it to, I believe, 10 at one point,
00:49but just couldn't quite get over that last little hurdle to get it back to an even game.
00:54You guys have scored two touchdowns in the first half through the first two games.
00:58What do you attribute the slow starts to,
01:00and is that an accurate characterization that's a slow start,
01:02or, you know, what do you attribute this to?
01:06You know, I don't know if I would attribute it to anything.
01:09I think it's just happenstance,
01:11although it is something that we do need to be intentional about of, you know,
01:17just talking about it and making sure you guys know, you know,
01:20how fast we want to start.
01:21And I think sometimes those type of things happen early in the season,
01:25but I don't think we have any time to waste,
01:26and we need to make sure we can get off to a hot start from here on out.
01:31Your first touchdown to Amon-Ra, watching the replay,
01:35did you throw that exactly,
01:37because it looked like you could place it in one place, down and inside.
01:42Is that exactly what you intended to do?
01:45Because it looked like it was the only place you could fit that football in there,
01:49and was that the plan?
01:52Yeah, that's exactly where I was trying to throw it.
01:53Down in there where only he could get it,
01:55and he makes it look nice a lot of the times, though.
01:58You know, when you throw it to a guy like him,
02:01you know, of course I'm trying to throw it exactly where I threw it,
02:03but, you know, he kind of shielded the defender off
02:06and caught it low in a way and makes it look pretty.
02:08Yeah, it was a tight window.
02:10The environment, the new stadium and all that,
02:14was that a factor at all, or has that been overplayed?
02:19No, it's not a factor.
02:20I thought it was fun.
02:20I thought it was a great environment.
02:22I thought their fans did a great job making it energetic.
02:24I thought the in-game stuff was great.
02:27The music, the whole thing, it was a really fun environment
02:30and one that would have been a lot of fun to win in, for sure.
02:33When we talked with Jason Garrett right before the season,
02:36he was talking about you specifically and your toughness
02:38within the pocket that you wait to the last second
02:41before you throw the ball, knowing full well
02:45that you're just going to get clocked.
02:46How did you develop that willingness to stay calm and poised
02:50knowing that you're going to get hit right before you deliver the football?
02:54Yeah, you know, I don't know.
02:56It probably goes back to college for me,
02:58and I don't know if I'm unique in this,
03:01but I think, yeah, that's part of my job.
03:05You know, like these guys up front and all over the place
03:07are getting hit all over the field,
03:09and if all it takes is for me to hold on for an extra second
03:12and maybe take a little bit more of a shot
03:13to make sure that the ball moves down the field the way it's supposed to,
03:16then that's an easy task for me to do.
03:19And I take pride in it, try to sit in there as long as I can.
03:22I know I'm not going to be extending the play much outside of the pocket,
03:26so if I can extend it in the pocket even for half a second,
03:29it's certainly worth it.
03:30And it always feels better when you get hit if it gets caught.
03:33So waiting that extra second sometimes is worth it.
03:38Really?
03:39That's great.
03:40Dan Campbell on The Morning Show today said that he wanted more explosives,
03:45but you were really close.
03:47What are the explosives you feel like you guys left on the table, and why?
03:52Good question.
03:54You know, there's a few.
03:56Gosh, again, I know I'm on Tuesday of the Jets now,
03:59so I've got to think back to what plays specifically.
04:03I think, you know, in the run game we're so close,
04:05and we hit some of them versus Saints.
04:07I think we ran it pretty good there,
04:09but there were so many that were just an arm tackle away
04:12or just an edge defender away.
04:14We had a holding call on something that was a pretty good run for us.
04:17So, yeah, there's a few that are just so close in the run game.
04:20And in the pass game, yeah, certainly there's a few.
04:21I'd have to go back and look, but I know I left a couple out there
04:24I'd like to be able to see and get down the field.
04:27Speaking of the Jets, they're coming up, obviously.
04:29You know Aaron Glenn pretty well from his time here.
04:33Are there subtle differences or changes or major differences
04:36with how the defense looks with Aaron Glenn with the Jets
04:40compared to what it was here with the Lions?
04:43Yeah, there's some differences, yeah.
04:45There is.
04:46They've got different personnel and different ways they want to do things,
04:49but a lot of the core principles are still the same.
04:51And, you know, even though we know that, it doesn't really matter
04:55because I know he'll have something new this week.
04:57We're still so early in the year where he can kind of do whatever he wants
04:59and we'll have something for us that's new and unique
05:02and we'll have to adjust to.
05:04Obviously, you work with Ben Johnson,
05:05and we've talked to you about those matchups with him.
05:08How close were you with Aaron Glenn?
05:09Did you guys have a good relationship?
05:11Yeah, we had a great relationship.
05:13I loved working with him and against him and through training camp.
05:16And he was always so competitive and so fun to play against
05:21and to practice against and then talking to him about scheme and whatnot.
05:24He was so insightful and so smart.
05:26And I think he's going to have a lot of great success as a head coach,
05:29and you can see what they've done early in the year already.
05:33What does the perfect start to a game look like to you as a quarterback?
05:37Is it just a quick 80-yard touchdown play, or is it a 12-play drive?
05:43Yeah, you know we'd love to score on the first play of the game.
05:46That'd be perfect.
05:48And then the second play of the game, we'd also love to score,
05:51but that's somewhat unrealistic.
05:53So, yeah, I think any drive where you can score a touchdown, really.
05:56If it is a 12-play drive, great.
05:59I know the linemen like it when it's a shorter drive,
06:01so we try to score as quickly as possible,
06:03but sometimes those 12-play drives do feel good.
06:06Well, Jared, as you know, we talk to fans, and they love their team.
06:09What do you say to the fans?
06:10Because we've dealt with this call.
06:11What do you say to the fans that are rattled by the Buffalo game
06:15and are concerned because of that game in Buffalo?
06:21I don't know.
06:22I mean, we're 1-1, and it's week three.
06:24I don't know.
06:24I mean, you know, listen, we lost by 10
06:27and had some chances to stay in that game and didn't do it.
06:30And that's a good team.
06:32We lost.
06:33They got us.
06:33We move on to the next one.
06:36And to be honest, I really don't feel like we have to defend anything
06:42we're doing internally.
06:44So we've got a lot of season in front of us
06:46and a lot of work to do, certainly, but we feel just fine.
06:51How close is the quarterback fraternity?
06:53We've seen some quarterbacks go down in the first couple weeks of the season.
06:56Do you reach out to Caleb Williams or a Jackson Dart
06:58or a Jaden Daniels and just check in on them,
07:01or is this just something that maybe you worry about at the end of the season?
07:06Yeah, I probably worry about at the end of the season.
07:09There's, I don't know, maybe a couple guys that I'm real close with.
07:12But, yeah, probably something you talk to guys
07:15as you see them throughout the year.
07:17Well, it looks like it's great to have Sam Laporta back.
07:21Talk about the impact that he has made in his return.
07:27Yeah, he's been great.
07:28He had a good one the other day,
07:29and his ability to just find space
07:31and be that kind of security blanket, not only for me,
07:34but our whole offense, being able to be that guy
07:36that underneath often at times is getting himself open,
07:39run after catch, what he does in the run game,
07:42everything he does in the pass game.
07:45Obviously, you guys see it, but he's a complete player
07:47and someone who's just starting to get rolling for us for sure.
07:51I was thinking about this over the weekend
07:53with all the college football, the watching as well,
07:55because we love college football in this state,
07:57and then looking back at some of your stats
07:59when you were at Cal were absolutely ridiculous.
08:02Your last year at Cal was an amazing year,
08:04over 40 touchdowns, I think a 4,700-yard passing,
08:07something crazy like that.
08:08Do you ever think of what it would be like for you,
08:11Jared Goff, if you were a junior or sophomore
08:14in college right now in today's landscape?
08:17Would you have thought about the transfer portal
08:20with NIL deals and all that,
08:22or do you think you would firmly have stayed at Cal?
08:26You know, I do think about that quite a bit,
08:28and I do think I would have stayed.
08:29I think they would have certainly paid me enough
08:33to make it worth my while.
08:36No, and listen, I'm from there.
08:38My parents went there.
08:39I loved it there.
08:40I loved my coaches.
08:42I don't think I would have even considered going anywhere.
08:44Did anybody try to reach out to you back at that time
08:47to try to get you to transfer regardless?
08:52No, no, not really.
08:54No, when I was being recruited, Coach Tedford had offered me,
08:58and then he had gotten fired towards the end of the year,
09:00and right when he got fired, I had a lot of people reach out.
09:03But once I was committed and already in school there,
09:05back then, you know, you've got to sit out of here,
09:06and no one's getting paid.
09:08So the transfer process wasn't quite as simple and easy.
09:12And, you know, I can probably say I never saw a dollar at Cal.
09:17So I was there fully legal and happy to be there.
09:22One final thing.
09:23Isaac Tesla got involved in the offense a little bit more.
09:25What have you seen from him to see him being able to make
09:30more of an impact with you guys?
09:33Yeah, you know, he did a great job the other night.
09:35I think that play at the end of the game was indicative
09:37of kind of how he's been reliable and the whole thing.
09:40But, you know, I wish I could have got it to him a little bit more
09:43in that Saints game, and really I wish I could have got it to him
09:46a little bit more in the Buffalo game.
09:47I think it's just, you know, sometimes it just doesn't –
09:50the progression doesn't make it all the way to him,
09:52or the plays where he's targeted as number one in the progression,
09:55you know, it's not the right coverage or whatnot.
09:58So for whatever reason, he hasn't gotten as many targets
10:00as maybe we'd like, but I hope that that'll continue to go up for him
10:04and allow him to make more plays.

10:27My wife and I watch Big Brother, so I'm very into it.
10:31Who would do well?
10:33You know who would do well is Hogan.
10:35Hogan's like very easy to get people to like him
10:39and very charismatic and very kind of unassuming in a lot of ways
10:44where he would kind of go under the radar.
10:45I think he'd be good.

10:47And who would do poorly?
10:50Who would do poorly?
10:51Oh, gosh.
10:51I mean, where do I start?
10:53Any guys who are loud and like to put themselves out there?

11:04I think a little bit highly of myself in those situations.
